I'm sorry, but it's WRONG WRONG WRONG! It's just a big joke surely, I keep hearing friends saying how comfy they are... it amazes me!

If your 18mnths old, YES, if you're over 18, NO fecking way!

bloody ridiculous

Cybbo Thu 13-Dec-12 17:41:07

If you wear it indoors, I don't see the problme

madammecholet Thu 13-Dec-12 17:42:20

BECAUSE THEY LOOK HIDEOUS OF COURSE!

(sorry for shouty capitals *cybbo)

Stuffingballs Thu 13-Dec-12 17:42:21

They look lovely and warm. Not sure I could cope with the stripping off to pee though.

Stuffingballs Thu 13-Dec-12 17:42:55

It doesn't matter how hideous you look behind closed doors though.

icovetthee Thu 13-Dec-12 17:43:05

Because they're warm, cosy, comfortable and worn indoors.

madammecholet Thu 13-Dec-12 17:44:05

These beauties maybe prove my point:

shield your eyes

BumsyClugger Thu 13-Dec-12 17:44:11

I am wearing one right now. It is a fleecy multi-coloured monstrosity. And it is bloody warm, with a long sleeve top and leggings underneath.

However, I will never ever leave the house in it. But then I wouldn't go out in my PJs.

Because they are warm!!
I have a zebra print one. With slippers and a blanket I am toasty warm with no need to crank the heating up on really cold days.

I refuse to be seen outdoors with it.

Cybbo Thu 13-Dec-12 17:48:15

They're not obligatory!

madammecholet Thu 13-Dec-12 17:50:25

OK...

a) They were designed for babies..

b) You must get freezing when you pee as you have to strip off..

c) Why would anyone you have sexual relations with want to EVER see you wearing this?

I am TRYING to understand...........

BumsyClugger Thu 13-Dec-12 17:55:00

That is why I wear a long sleeve top under it. For going to the toilet.

And my DP said I look like a pillock in it. But he wants one for Christmas grin

CometAndCupid Thu 13-Dec-12 17:58:49

I have a leopard one. It is very cosy.

It must also make me look devastatingly attractive as my friend made a move on me when I was wearing it*

*It does not make me look devastatingly attractive. He must be blind.

jimmenycricket Thu 13-Dec-12 17:59:42

Right let me explain. I'm a size ten. I am five foot two. But my tops are all three sodding inches too short and the rise in my trousers two inches too short. A onesie fits me, whereas PJs leave a freezing gap between top and bottom.

The ones with feet are bizarre though. And hoods.

madammecholet Thu 13-Dec-12 18:16:31

OK, so I get that they may be comfy. But honestly, do you look in a mirror and go 'yup, that looks ok'.....

(or do not go near a mirror grin)

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend Thu 13-Dec-12 18:22:52

I have a leopard print one and I love it, it's so comfy and cosy. I don't wear it to bed, it's for lounging smile

I look awful in it though and always feel a bit like a telly tubby when I wear it but my 3 year old dd tells me I look brilliant in it (I think she may be biased).

jimmenycricket Thu 13-Dec-12 19:25:28

They look no better and no worse than flipping penguin PJs when you are over twelve grin

magimedi88 Thu 13-Dec-12 19:29:19

They are gross & wrong.

And contribute massively to making me a really grumpy old woman.

myalias Thu 13-Dec-12 19:35:02

Some people can pull it off depending on the design. I quite like the navy blue onesie with an argyll print on the shoulders like this www.republic.co.uk/brands/mens/fabric/fabric-diamond-mens-onesie-72642/?

DisappointedPantomimeHorse Thu 13-Dec-12 19:41:45

I have one, I look a dickhead in it but it's warm and comfy and I love it!

DH bought it for me for Christmas last year because he knows I hate being cold. Marital relations are still on track even though he laughs at it. However, i would never, ever answer the door wearing it so my love is not unconditional!

DP pisses himself laughing at me in mine but this comes from a man that wears a Sith Lord dressing gown!!

HorraceTheChristmasOtter Thu 13-Dec-12 20:55:10

I have said before on here, I have a cat one with ears and a tail. It just fit me when I was 9 months pregnant (there's a lot of room in the stomach bit of them). I love it. It is the best item of clothing I have ever had for lazing in...

madammecholet Thu 13-Dec-12 21:00:58

But SURELY PJ's and a hoodie is comfy and not so painful on the eyes?

AfterEightMintyy Thu 13-Dec-12 21:13:19

They are unspeakable.

Kikithecat Thu 13-Dec-12 21:14:19

How come MNers are happy with their onesies but won't let me wear a fleece?!!!

CountryBelle Thu 13-Dec-12 21:23:41

Understand that there is no cold "gap" in the middle, but...

- surely it must feel weird not having something kind of "tight around" or "sitting" on ur waist? I think i'd feel naked without that feeling on my waist.

- zip against ur skin would feel hard, cold, or just even an annoying sensation?!?

- and of course the whole toileting hoo-ha.

Dont think theyre quite for me!

AuntLucyInTheNorthPole Thu 13-Dec-12 21:25:26

I saw a woman in the pub wearing one yesterday. She wasn't even collecting for charity. I nearly collapsed in amazement. WTAF!

I'm with you all the way mmeCholet .ok on my 12 yr old but only just.

carlywurly Thu 13-Dec-12 22:54:23

I genuinely don't think they're acceptable on anyone old enough to dress themselves. confused

Djembe Thu 13-Dec-12 23:01:57

Primark have sold out of men's ones! I wanted a penguin, snowman, reindeer or something but nada. Every man in the UK is getting one for Christmas, apparently.

There were loads of women's ones left if you have a change of heart OP wink

Manictigger Thu 13-Dec-12 23:54:01

Mine has a zip round the arse for when you need the loo. I have bought it only for when we go camping and there is frost outside the tent and have promised dh I will never wear it at home. Tbh it is very comfy but the static it produces is a bit scary.

WynkenBlynkenandNod Thu 13-Dec-12 23:58:43

There was a man ahead of me in the petrol station wearing a Superman onsie recently. It was most perturbing and worrying when DD said he looked 'awesome'.

Meggles76 Fri 14-Dec-12 05:57:01

I'm with you OP... No self respecting woman should be seen dead in a onesie, in or out of the house. They are hideous! They are for babies! I especially dislike the animal style ones that come complete with ears. What's suddenly wrong with a pair of plain pyjamas? Don't do it ladies!!!

Chandon Fri 14-Dec-12 13:45:16

I have seen bunches of teens in a bar with this look.

Great, I love it when people dress really badly. t makes me look good and elegant and even glam!

So do wear them, so I can look like a super model next to you.

Thx

kissmyheathenass Fri 14-Dec-12 14:51:33

I went to an informal drinks party a few weeks ago and a married couple were both wearing them shock. Twas freaking awful.

Hobbitation Fri 14-Dec-12 14:55:23

Because I get cold in bed some nights in spite of having a 17.5 tog duvet. Onesie and thermal vest for me! So cosy. It is a bit cold to strip off for a wee but not slow, as mine has a zip, easy access! I haven't worn it outside yet but have been so tempted in the morning.

Mine is this one: Fair Isle Onesie

ariadneoliver Fri 14-Dec-12 15:44:44

Hobbitation I am interested in the sound of your 17.5 tog duvet. Where did you get it?

I don't do onesies, even less so after that adult baby programme on channel 4 last night.

madammecholet Fri 14-Dec-12 16:34:36

So pleased I'm not the only one who thinks they are the work of the devil or some lunatic in a retail marketing dept having a laugh

alemci Fri 14-Dec-12 16:51:50

i wear a frumpy fleece round the house when I am cleaning Kiki - go for it.

I am tempted by the Onesies for a laugh but as long as you only wear it indoors and don't answer the door it's fine IMO.

lowercase Fri 14-Dec-12 17:51:14

I was thinking about this a while sexualisation of children with bras, heels etc. and adults as dressing as in onesies and play suits.

It's not for me.

lowercase Fri 14-Dec-12 17:51:43

Dressing as babies

I.Just. Couldn't.

amothersplaceisinthewrong Fri 14-Dec-12 18:47:29

Just bought my 21 year old daughter a onesie - I am assuming she will only wear it to keep warm in her student house! That said, I saw a couple of students in them in a motorway services recently!

extracrunchy Fri 14-Dec-12 18:55:59

Cos they are COSY.

brighthair Fri 14-Dec-12 19:55:03

Because my top rides up in bed and my back gets cold
I wear a cotton one with buttons and nothing digs in, with a vest underneath. But then I also sleep with socks, 2 x 13.5 tog duvets and a blanket so I might just be a wimp grin
My partner is highly entertained by the fact I need all this when he sleeps with a sheet and naked blush

Helltotheno Fri 14-Dec-12 21:07:45

Love mine for around the house and love that you can more or less go commando underneath cos it's so shapeless. Only thing is I can't stand not to wear something on my feet over socks so I lobbed off the feet and wear slippers.

Wouldn't be seen dead in one outside though..

BlameItOnTheChoirOfAngels Fri 14-Dec-12 21:10:59

I'm wearing mine now, its ace. sooooo comfy. its not sexy, but oh, its ;lush.

thenightsky Fri 14-Dec-12 21:12:37

I saw a number of people wearing them in tesco today hmm

I'm very tempted to get one for when I'm on call - I can pull it on over my scrubs and away I go grin In the middle of the night the last thing I need is to faff around with jeans and jumpers.

Lafaminute Fri 14-Dec-12 22:09:52

I can see how they may be comfy and warm but I think that just because my husband still (says he) stills finds me attractive after 20 years I'm not sure I'd care to push my luck and see how he feels when I toddle about in a babygro.....certainly it would not induce me to strip his onesie off in a fit of passion. UGH.
