Want to try to lose half a stone by Xmas - are you in??

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 07:08:25

So I m up for a little Xmas weight loss! Basically, I know at Xmas I put on weight so want to be well below my 'buffer zone' to enable me to join the festivities. Also want to look good in my Christmas party wear!
Useless on my own, need support to keep me on track!
Anyone in.............

MsGee Tue 27-Nov-12 07:19:58

Yes ... I just started weight watchers yesterday.

I've been lurking on this board for a while. Had some lovely advice on clothes purchases last year, lost my confidence and just re-starting my style mission. I have a newish 'look', just need to be a bit lighter to pull it off with confidence.

Plan is weight watchers, back to gym next week, no booze. Hair appointment booked for 2 weeks for a mid diet boost!

laptopdancer Tue 27-Nov-12 07:28:54

Yes, I have already been trying for a week. So far have been having 40g high fibre cereal and skimmed milk for bfast, an open sandwich (low GI bread x 1, salad and lean meat 100g) for lunch and vege soup for dinner and havent lost a pound yet. Ive been running on the treadmill for 30 mins (will build this up).
So frustrating but I will get there.

laptopdancer Tue 27-Nov-12 07:50:22

Ahhhh, I tell a lie. Just weighed myself...lost 1 lb!!! woo hoo 6 to go!

fedupofnamechanging Tue 27-Nov-12 09:04:49

I'm in, if you'll have me. Have managed to shift 3 stone, but now I'm officially a healthy weight, I'm finding it hard to stay motivated in order to shift the last 7lbs. Like you, I don't want to be dieting at Christmas, so want a buffer zone.

I have been spending money like water getting myself a few little treats, to compensate for the lack of cake. It seems to help, because I want to look nice in the new things I am buying.

Rockchick1984 Tue 27-Nov-12 09:11:53

Oooh, me please!! I've still got about 7-10lbs of baby weight to lose even though DS is now 20 months but just can't get motivated to lose the last little bit even though I'd be so much happier and have so many more clothes if I could get back into them. If I can lose some weight before Christmas at least then my Christmas binging won't put me to a worse size than I am already smile

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 27-Nov-12 09:16:44

I'm in. Weighed myself this morning and have put on 3lb so want to lose that and the extra 10 4 please!
Am going to do MFP and be very strict that I record everything and try not to eat my extra calories from exercise. Am going away for a night at the weekend - someone's hen - first night ever been away from DCs! So I'm sure lots of drinking and eating will be involved so need to be super strict this week. Please kick my arse if I start on the chocolate crunch I made yesterday.

FunBagFreddie Tue 27-Nov-12 09:19:29

I'd like to join in too if that's ok. I'm about to get my period, so I'm bloated at the moment anyway. I'd really like to get down as low as I can before Xmas though, as DP has a large family and I suspect we'll be given a lot of roast dinners!

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 27-Nov-12 09:20:20

Karma I'm nearly at the end of a big weight loss too and officially 'healthy' (middle of BMi healthy range) but definitely not skinny- could probably lose another 10 lbs+ but like you am finding the last few a killer. Partly because I'm less motivated as I'm pretty happy with the way I am but mainly because its so damn hard to shift the pounds at this stage IYKWIM.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 27-Nov-12 09:21:37

My tip for the day: in wearing slightly too tight jeans and am going to prod my muffin top every time I open the fridge. grin

MsGee Tue 27-Nov-12 10:01:16

musttidy grin

<prods muffin top>

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 10:08:44

I feel inspired already - I m living the idea of a mid diet haircut as a reward!

I have no need to look out tight jeans as am in them!
{prods muffin top}blush

So I m weighed in and ready to go-

WW app up and running and MFP.

Alcohol could be my ruin so aiming to cut right back but as end of term it s not easy!

sweetheart Tue 27-Nov-12 10:21:16

Ohhh please can I join in too. I've been dieting hard since the end of the summer holidays using my fitness pal and have managed to loose 20Ibs. Still got another 5 to go to get to my target weight but I really need to stay focused and motivated because I know I will easily stack on half a stone over xmas and would really like to start the New Year without having to diet!

My trouble is, well firstly after loosing 20Ibs I'm feeling much happier with my body so the motivation is low for the last few ibs and also we have lots of social functions / birthdays in December starting next weekend with my sisters 40th celebrations on Friday followed by my sons birthday on Saturday. I can feel it all spiraling out of control from then onwards so could really use this to keep me on track!

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 10:23:55

The more the merrier!grin
I reckon this is the hardest time especially when I m not huge just larger than I want to be for Xmas and so need a kick to stay in track.

sweetheart Tue 27-Nov-12 10:41:34

I don't know if this will help or work but I've written in my diary either "be good" or "day off" for the days I'm going to allow my diet to slip. Not sure if it will work once I'm in full Xmas swing but I guess it's worth a shot!

MsGee Tue 27-Nov-12 10:51:15

I have just noticed that my new jeans have already split at the side ... looks like the diet is a bit late sad

I will resist biscuits!

HelgatheHairy Tue 27-Nov-12 11:52:52

I'm in. I've lost 12 pounds in the last 2 months following the 5:2 diet so am thinking of going 4:3 in the run up to Christmas. Have another 2 stone to lose so would like not to undo all my weight loss.

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 12:39:13

Ok - so I weighed myself and the hard work now begins!
Lets weigh today and in a week to keep on course!
No use daily checks as I fluctuate like you wouldn't believe!!
Do we post weight or shall we just post losses??

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 27-Nov-12 12:46:49

Don't mind Joycey you decide. You are the Madam of our podgy merry little band.

laptopdancer Tue 27-Nov-12 13:02:04

Oh bugger. My first Xmas festive meal tomorrow. The hosts have paid for 3 courses. I think I will just eat half of whatever I have (and leave the "trimmings"..good job I dislike roast potatoes)

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 13:02:55

Thanks for the vote of confidence mustti!!

Count me in - although I don't seem to have put on much weight (and am supposedly around my ideal weight - though half a stone heavier than looks good on my frame), I have certainly put on inches recently, so all my clothes feel a bit too snug. My downfall is comfort food when I'm alone in the house. DH lost almost 5.5 stone since January by loosely following SW, so meals are healthy and we don't tend to do desserts so much any more but when I'm alone I eat complete crap :-( All the celebratory meals between now and Christmas are not going to help either - DH's 40th on Thurs, then a string of Christmas meals out etc, but if I can be good in between I may be able to limit the damage...

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 27-Nov-12 13:51:24

laptop ask them to not put what you don't want to eat on your plate - just meat and vgetables for me please - otherwise they will tempt you with their deliciousness. Then you have no choice. unless you beg from the person next to you and this would be embarrassing

Spons Tue 27-Nov-12 13:59:54

Can I join too please, always that elusive half stone for me! Twolittlemonkeys I'm just like you, my meals are fine but I can't be trusted not to buy / eat a load of snack crap when I'm at work!!!

laptopdancer Tue 27-Nov-12 14:05:07

Yes, good idea musttidy. Im a sucker for stuffing.

Madmog Tue 27-Nov-12 14:07:50

I'm in too, starting now! Have been conscious for a few weeks I've put on weight and my jeans are tighter, so want to loose a few pounds permanently not just for Xmas. I'm going to try and do it by cutting back on rubbish snacks and eating lower calorie main meals - so for the rest of the day it will be a kiwi fruit and a smaller portion of the pizza planned for tonight's tea but I'll have salad with mine instead of chips. Think a bit more exercise will help as well!

fedupofnamechanging Tue 27-Nov-12 14:25:20

I have just put my cross trainer back into storage, to make room for my Christmas tree. Have got the guilts now, because I really should have been using it every day. Unfortunately, it was just glaring at me from the corner of the room but was a useful place to hang my hand bag.

As of tomorrow, I will have a go at either an exercise dvd or some vigorous dancing, or at the very least will go out for a walk, so i don't spend the whole day on my arse!

Those of you who like a drink, I find gin and slimline tonic to be good, calorie wise. Also dime bars are lowish in calories, for fellow chocaholics!

Prolificmincepiebreeder Tue 27-Nov-12 15:15:56

I'm in! Post baby weight just would look a lot better if I lost half a stone!
I just need to find some scales for the weigh in!
I'm going to low carb probably dukan, had great success with that last time. I have also had my head turned by the 5/2 diet. 500 cal for 2 days eat what you like for 5.

sweetheart Tue 27-Nov-12 15:58:38

Karma, try the 30 day shred DVD - gor more or less 30 days between now and xmas and you'll see such a difference! Plus the bonus is it only takes about 20 mins a day wink

I'm trying to do some kind of exercise every day and I have 3 sessions left with a PT who absolutly kicks my arse before Christmas.

I try not to have snack food in the house to be honest because that is where I'm most likely to go off plan. I can be really good at work and usually pretty good on a weekday evening but weekends are evil!

Prolificmincepiebreeder Tue 27-Nov-12 16:24:57

I'm normally pretty good at work but maternity leave has meant there are biscuits in the house. Biscuits are evil.

QuinnFabray Tue 27-Nov-12 16:37:51

I'm doing this. Started on Saturday. I don't mind posting weight. I am about 9 stone 7, although this fluctuates by a pound or two most days, and I want to get down to just under 9 stone. 8 stone something sounds so much better.

I lost four stone on WW a few years ago, and have kept most of it off, but gave up smoking last year, and 10lbs has crept back on. I just miss being really slim. That half a stone, when you're a size 10 anyway makes a huge difference to how your clothes fit.

I'm currently eating 1000-1200 calories a day, only because I have a Ball to go to on Saturday and want a flatter stomach. After that I'll try and be a bit more sensible, and up calorie intake a little. I also fancy trying the 5:2.

Am doing half an hour or so Davina DVD every day.

The 1000 calorie thing has been fine, but now I'm on day 4 and it's caught up on me and I feel hungry. So having 1200 today. Apparently I'm only supposed to eat about 1700 a day to maintain weight anyway, so a 500 calorie reduction sounds about right. 3500 calorie reduction over the course of a week equals 1lb weight loss.

It's so slow and painful losing this half a stone, compared to how it was at the beginning of my weightloss journey.

FunBagFreddie Tue 27-Nov-12 16:46:26

I've just started 30 day shred. It does make me hungry though, that's where the will power comes in.

fedupofnamechanging Tue 27-Nov-12 17:10:33

sweetheart, I bought the 30 day shred, back when I was 3 stone heavier. It took me about a week to take the cellophane off! I will dig it out again and hopefully this time when I do it, I won't feel like I'm going to die smile

FunBagFreddie Tue 27-Nov-12 17:23:43

Whenever I've been shredding I notice a sudden rush of energy half way through the second circuit.

It makes me stiff though! I think you need to do some yoga alongside it. In many ways that defeats the object of doing a 20 min workout, but hey ho.

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 18:28:56

Just had to google the 30day shred.

Don't normally do DVD s but this looks tempting!

So today I weigh: 10st 11lb

I want to weigh 10st4

I also want a large glass of wine - are the two mutually exclusive???sad

QuinnFabray Tue 27-Nov-12 18:39:23

I can't do the Shred due to dodgy knees. Too many lunges.

FunBagFreddie Tue 27-Nov-12 18:44:49

I only started doing it once I didn't have much weight to lose, and it hasn't helped me lose weight, but I've lost inches and toned up from it, and it tones you up quickly!

I've put on about 5 lbs since the summer, and I'd love to get down to 8 stone 10, but it's so hard to shift them when you've only got a few to lose. sad

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 18:45:25

prolific it s not the biscuits - it's the upcoming mince piesblush

twooter Tue 27-Nov-12 18:52:40

Me in too, although I have tried various other threads and have fallen by the wayside, only to be envy months on, when everyone is posting their loses. I have a critical, but fun mum who is coming for Christmas, so want some of the weight gone by then.

Currently 78.5-79kg , would be delighted to be 72kg. I did really well on MFP earlier in the year, but can only do it if my dh doesn't know, otherwise his comments irritate me and I rebel.

Joycey29 Tue 27-Nov-12 19:32:47

So how many of us are on MFP? Or WW app - happy to friend anyone and keep an eye on your diary - if you promise to be nice about mine!!blush

FunBagFreddie Tue 27-Nov-12 19:57:28

is MFP any good? I keep thinking about joining.

fedupofnamechanging Tue 27-Nov-12 20:50:06

I use it just to log what I have eaten. Amazing what you forget if you don't write it down.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 27-Nov-12 22:01:40

MFP worked for me. So easy to rack up the calories, especially if you are a picker like me.
I'm 8 stone 10 (well actually more like 9 it seems according to the scales this morning but I'm pretending its still 8 10) and I would like to be 8 7 by Christmas although not likely if today is anything to go by.
I prodded my muffin top but still has 2 pieces of chocolate crunch (laden with calories) so I'm supposed to be sticking to 1200 and today is 1650 but I did do an hour of Zumba so I'm 50 cals over sad
Must do better tomorrow.

sweetheart Tue 27-Nov-12 22:30:23

I'm also using mfp. I've been sing it for 14 weeks and have lst 20ibs which includes 2 weeks where I was pretty ill and don't get much exercise done.

I have to admit it took me a while to get o grips with it but its been great.

I do various forms of exercise but one quick it which s easy to fit in is called 10 of 10 where you basically pick 10 exercises and do 10 of them. It's the sort of thing you can do in the morning before a shower.

I'm going to need most help at the weekends and when I finish work for Xmas on 19th Dec

sweetheart Tue 27-Nov-12 22:33:09

I'm also on 1200 cals a day but usually also get between 350 - 800 exercise calories (except the weekends which are my "rest" days)

I'm at 10st 5 at the moment and would like to hit 10st dead by Xmas and try not to put too much back on over Xmas so I don't have to start denting again in Jan

laptopdancer Wed 28-Nov-12 07:26:26

Bit shocked...big drop on the scale this morning. Have lost 5 lb all up now (but started nearly 2 weeks ago).
Now Im sad I have this xmas lunch thing on.
I don't thik I can get away with not eating some of every course as there are only 4 of us. Looks like its 2 mouthfuls of xmas pudd and be strong and then vege soup for tea.

fedupofnamechanging Wed 28-Nov-12 08:32:50

I keep blowing my calorie count - am within 1200 all day, then end up eating chocolate/biscuits at night. Was over by 350 yesterday! I am slowly coming to the realisation that if i stopped buying crap, I wouldn't be able to raid the fridge and eat it!

Am taking the dc to school in a minute, then doing the shred when I come home. Am fed up of settling at this weight and feeling flabby.

Good luck today everyone.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Wed 28-Nov-12 09:28:57

Yes karma but not so easy with stuff on the house for DCs etc is it. I find it very hard to stick to 1200, a good bowl of porridge and coffee for breakfast takes up a sizeable chunk but its the only thing that keeps me full until lunch. I've found myself picking at kids food whilst I'm prearing / leftovers which I had got so good at not doing. So, today's tip is

HelgatheHairy Wed 28-Nov-12 09:29:59

I weigh in on Sundays and would prefer to stick to that for now. I picked Sunday on purpose so I don't go OTT on Saturday night. I've also given up wine (mostly) on Saturday nights.

I started at 11 stone 11.8 and am now 11 0.8.

fedupofnamechanging Wed 28-Nov-12 09:47:26

Have done level 1 of the shred.

Had a nice view of my bingo wings in the living room mirror, while doing my star jumps, which gave me the incentive to carry on! grin

Just going for a nice lie down now...

Madmog Wed 28-Nov-12 09:50:06

I weighed myself twice over the weekend which confirmed I'd put on weight, so have an up to date weight to go on. Really proud of myself last night, I was peckish and stuck to the kiwi fruit I said I'd have rather than the aero chocolate bar in the fridge. Years ago I used to calorie count, but now find it much easier to cut back on the amount of unhealthy snacks a day (having one instead of three a day now) and eating less calories at meal times where practical. Exercisewise, I'm off on a short walk soon and will do a few toning exercises later.

MusttidyupBeforeSantaComes, I'm terrible and also pick at food while I'm preparing it. Last night when I cooked pizza, chips and carrots for my daughter and her friends, I eat a massive raw carrot instead of the usual 2/3ozs cheese. Not sure what back up option I'll have tonight tough!

wem Wed 28-Nov-12 10:00:12

I'm in. All my clothes are tight, and that's a very worrying position to be in before Christmas! I don't want to weigh myself though <wibble>...

I should dig out shred again. I enjoyed it before but I'm a bit scared of it now. I think because of the every day thing.

wem Wed 28-Nov-12 10:02:01

My problem is I make a lot of cakes - got to stop licking bowls (not literally) and nibbling on offcuts!

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 10:39:50

Good Morning all!

I'm also on the 'look and feel better by Xmas' thread, but half a stone is exactly my target, so would love to join this thread too!

I'm using MyFitnessPal too, I'm 5'3" and my target is 1200 calories.

I'm struggling to figure out what my weight at the moment is though... Have recently moved house and every room is carpeted except the kitchen which has these slate type tiles which are a bit uneven. So don't trust my scales......

Anyone know a way round this / would a big flat piece of cardboard underneath give the scales a more accurate reading? hmm

At the moment the scales say 9 stone 6, but am a bit distrustful of this. I feel a lot more....

sweetheart Wed 28-Nov-12 10:45:06

Just a little tip for anyone struggling on 1200 cals a day - just make sure you do some exercise every day to increase your calorie allowance. It doesn't have to be serious / hard exercise! I (very sadly) put my sports tracker app on whilst I was out Christmas shopping on Saturday and was very pleased to see that I'd walked 5 miles and burned nearly 500 calories grin

If anyone likes Ice Skating maybe you could take your kids for a treat this weekend - ice Skating is exceleent for family fun AND burning calories.

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 10:53:48

Good tip sweetheart

At the moment I'm doing zilch exercise (excuse - it's cold!) and 1200 cals is a struggle when you're not burning cals

Heartbeep Wed 28-Nov-12 11:11:59

i'm in. i started weight watchers yesterday. DS is 9 weeks old boy & i would like to lose 1.5 stone in total. i also have a 3 year old so my opportunity to exercise is a bit limited at the moment.
half a stone by xmas would be fabulous!

52to103 Wed 28-Nov-12 11:28:36

Can I join in too please?

I am 11 stone - my "slim weight" is 9 st 12 - have put a stone on in the last 18 months for various teasons. I have set myself a target of getting to 10st 3 on the 5:2 diet, which I started Monday. But half a stone before Christmas would be brilliant.

I had a "fast" day on Monday - managed 589 calories which is over the 500 but the best I could do.

Today is my next "fast" day and I'm having an apple and a white coffee as a mid-morning snack. I've got skinny soup for lunch and supper and some fruit.

I'm using MFP to keep track of the calories - it's brilliant, isn't it? Never used it before this week.

Have a good day everyone!

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 11:44:12

Hi guys

52 MFP really is a godsend!

Have just read on another thread that my 'slim weight' or ideal weight for my height (I'm a short arse), is apparently 8'10"! I don't think I've been 8 anything for over 20 years! (Am 35....)

I honestly don't think it's possible for my body frame to get below 9, altho others of my height seem to manage it easily. I don't think I was made to be 'skinny', just want to look healthy. I'd be happy with something in the early 9 stone region.

There's a helpful thread at the moment about finding the healthy weight for your height. Someone posted a helpful chart - pinched it for easy ref for everyone! http://www.nutriactiva.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/BMI-Chart-eng.png

Me please. Ive just today started my new healthy eating plan.

Had to have toast for breakfast cos we had nothing else in, but have been shopping now, and got lots of chicken and fish.

I'm following a plan a friend told me about where you have porridge for breakfast, eggs for lunch and then chicken or fish meal for dinner.
You can have apples or bananas or nuts as snacks.

It sounds quite boring, but i do love chicken and fish, and eggs so i think i'll be ok.

Ive just bought some green tea aswell, and was expecting to hate it, but it's lovely. I got the one with apple and pear in.

I am 5'2 and current weight is 11 stone 5. My goal weight is 9 stone, but i'd be happy with anything of before xmas.

twooter Wed 28-Nov-12 11:53:48

Last time I did MFP I went from 78kg to 72kg in about 4 weeks. Definitely worked due to the exercise factor. I'm struggling at the moment as one dc is off school and its too cold anyway.

Those that graze and pick, are you giving up or grazing on healthy stuff?

wem Wed 28-Nov-12 12:07:47

TheOriginalNutcracker - do you sweeten your porridge? I love porridge but I don't think I could have it unsweetened, bleugh.

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 12:15:54

Twooter I'm a big time grazer. So I've 'cunningly' chosen a healthy eating plan that approves of grazing (as long as its healthy!).

I'm trying to follow low GI / low GL principles - so the idea is you make sure you eat something every 3-4 hours to keep blood sugar levels stable (so you don't feel hungry then binge).

My snacks at the moment are things like:

- two oatcakes, a scraping of Flora olive spread and a low fat mini Babybel

- berries (eg. blueberries/raspberries) and two dollops no fat Greek yoghurt (a great snack, but damn - berries are expensive)

- reduced fat hummus on a rye cracker

- apple and small piece of low fat cheese

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 12:18:04

Wem I have porridge for breakfast and have it with berries in - makes it sufficiently sweet I find, but still healthy

ceeveebee Wed 28-Nov-12 12:26:02

Hi all. Can I join? I'm trying to lose that dratted last stone of baby weight (well, toddler weight now) and have managed to lose 4 lb in the last 6 weeks so not much more to go. I started keeping a log of food but would be great to use an app for this - MFP - is that an app?

Joycey29 Wed 28-Nov-12 12:26:52

Morning all - umm that will be afternoon - where did that go!
So I m trying mfp but was way over 1200 yesterday - oops
Like the ww app as cushion of extra points makes me feel better!
Been good so far today - but it's all going to go wrong later - I can tell! sad

QuinnFabray Wed 28-Nov-12 12:46:54

MFP= My Fitness Pal, yes it's an app.

QuinnFabray Wed 28-Nov-12 12:53:08

WW worked brilliantly for me when I had four stone to lose, but now I just want to shift 7lbs, it just doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's the new propoints system, or maybe it's those extra buffer points! Also, the minimun they let you have is 29 points which is equivelant to roughly 1450 calories. As I'm techically not overweight anyway, that is just too many or me, and if I use the extra points too, then I just don't lose.

Strict 1200 calories a day seems to work, and because it's so few calories, I'm forced to choose healthier options. Man, I love crisps. And Cheese. For some reason, after months of fannying around and not getting anywhere, really having no willpower and craving stuff, this week I seem to have go into the zone.

QuinnFabray Wed 28-Nov-12 12:56:57

AsparagusFern, you could pop into Boots and weight yourself, their scales are accurate.

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 13:01:34

Oooh good idea Quinn had forgotten about the scales at Boots!

Joycey29 Wed 28-Nov-12 13:10:44

Agree that WW pro points don't work as well for last few pounds so its MFP all the way now - joycey29 if you want to buddy up!
Also bought shred DVD so watch this space.......

ceeveebee Wed 28-Nov-12 13:42:00

Thank you - have downloaded mfp and already logged Monday and Tuesday, it seems very quick and easy to use.

wem Wed 28-Nov-12 13:49:11

Thanks AsparagusFern, I might try to get a big bag of frozen mixed berries. They go a bit slushy when defrosted but that's ok stirred through porridge or yoghurt. Should be cheaper than fresh berries anyway.

Madmog Wed 28-Nov-12 14:06:30

At the end of this, it will be interesting to note who has stuck to their plan and whether they've managed to lose their target in the time. We can all learn from this for the future.

Wem - I don't actually like porridge normally, so I am going to try it with raisins and a tiny blob of golden syrup. I'm hoping to cut the syrup out gradually though once I get used to the porridge.

Same with the brown rice. I have bought some sweet chilli sauce to drizzle over that, which I will cut down on as i get used to it.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Wed 28-Nov-12 14:25:33

I have a generous amount of syrup. I figure the goodness in the porridge makes up for it so allow 50-60 cals worth. Very sweet and delicious!

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 14:30:31

Wem Yes, good idea to buy berries frozen. I've been buying fresh ones of late as an incentive to eat more, but they're just too expensive really.... Back to frozen methinks!

Madmog Very true. Am feeling v inspired and encouraged to keep going by this thread.... Glad I've found it! smile

fedupofnamechanging Wed 28-Nov-12 15:00:36

300 grams of frozen berries has just under 100 calories, I think. Might be nice with some artificial sweetener or a little sugar sprinkled over, instead of biscuits when I get the munchies in the evening.

Joycey29 Wed 28-Nov-12 16:44:45

Karma you are the fountain of knowledge!

fedupofnamechanging Wed 28-Nov-12 16:54:45

feel like nI have been on a diet for a very looooong time. Had plenty of time to contemplate number of calories in all the things I like grin

QuinnFabray Wed 28-Nov-12 17:15:34

Every now and again, usually the week after pay day, if I'm feeling un-motivated, I'll buy a few low calorie ready meals from M&S. Some of them are only 320-350 calories. Breakfast is a banana, or two oakcakes with a thin scraping of almond butter ( and marmite, but that's probably weird! ). Lunch is soup, and a couple more oat cakes (39 calories each ) or a two egg omelette, with courgette and a light mini baby bel (50 calories, no need to measure out quantity ). M&S do a tinned chicken noodle soup which is quite filling, for only 140 calories.

Snacks are apples, celery (6 calories per stick ) scraped with almond butter ( 62 calories per 10g ), or half a cantaloup melon (about 90 calories ) with 2 slices of parma ham ( 31 calories each ).

Don't forget to count calories of milk in tea/coffee. I usually just allow 100 calories a day for that.

Well ive just had salmon in herbs and lemon juice, green beans and brown rice for my dinner.

I had to put a blob of chily sauce on the rice but only a little blob lol.

I've also bought some sports bottles of water, because I am better at drinking it if i carry one of those round with me, and then just swap them over when done. If i have to go do myself a glass of it, i just won't, and if i did i wouldn't drink it.

According to MFP, I still have 350 calories left for today. Is that a lot, or about right or not ??

plaingirly Wed 28-Nov-12 18:48:37

I have 394 left. This is my first day though!

Looking at the calories and fat has really made me think about what I eat. Under on cals, carbs (waaaaaay under) and protein but over on fat.

Not sure how the community side works on there or how to see other people's diaries.

I'm under on all except protein, which i'm over by 12.

Joycey29 Wed 28-Nov-12 18:54:04

I wish!!!! I only have 82 left and it s not even 7 o'clock

Still at work so fingers crossed I can stop picking but it s tuck night in the boarding house!! Help!

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 19:31:29

Nutcracker and Plaingirly What are your daily allowances/targets?

Mine is 1200, so I'm lucky if I have 5 cals left at the end of the day!

(Joycey I empathise!)

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Wed 28-Nov-12 20:08:08

Over by about 300 :-( that will be the chocolate crunch again. Can't understand how I had fantastic willpowerfo

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Wed 28-Nov-12 20:09:23

Oops. Willpower for over a year and now am pick pick pick. At work tomorrow and find it easier to be good.

Joycey29 Wed 28-Nov-12 20:18:00

Proud of self - whilst children all ate chocolate - I drank peppermint tea!

fedupofnamechanging Wed 28-Nov-12 20:49:15

I have about 400 left, but yesterday was over by 350. Plan to use some of them up on a G&T and some fruit, though.

I have found that some days I am really hungry and on other days, not so much. It's easier on days when I am very busy.

sweetheart Wed 28-Nov-12 20:58:30

For those asking about the mfp cals in your settings it will tell you how many cals you use per day based on you activity levels and stuff. Mine is 1700 so mfp has put my daily cals at 1200 which is a 500 cal deficit each day. You need a 3500 cal deficit to loose 1ib. So if you are on 1200 and you go under your daily cals you should loose more in theory.

sweetheart Wed 28-Nov-12 21:01:05

hmm I'm thinking a ready meal week might be in order to smash off a few ibs. I used to do this years ago when I was on ww so might have to revisit it.

My goal calories is 1200

QuinnFabray Wed 28-Nov-12 21:28:04

Stayed within 1200 for five days, 1380 today. I just felt really hungry this evening, to the point of being very ratty. I obviously needed a few extra calories today. Not going to beat myself up about it, it's still under what I need to maintain.

fedupofnamechanging Wed 28-Nov-12 21:33:55

Sweetheart, Waitrose do a nice low cal ready meal range, called Love Food, I think. The fish pie, shepherds pie and lasagne are my favourites and have between 269 - 330 calories. I like them much more than the WW ready meals, which always left me feeling hungry and slightly pissed off that I'd used up valuable calories on something which didn't even taste that nice.

AsparagusFern Wed 28-Nov-12 22:19:52

slightly pissed off that I'd used up valuable calories on something which didn't even taste that nice

hehe I SO know that feeling! smile

plaingirly Wed 28-Nov-12 22:27:14

Mine says I need 1410 a day but that seems high to me!

I thought I should be aiming for nearer 1000.

Supposed to eat 194g of carbs, 47g of fat and 53g of protein too. Not sure I want to eat that many carbs as I feel so much better in my second week of lowish carbs.

twooter Wed 28-Nov-12 23:17:48

Thanks ladies, I was on target today for first time in ages. See you again tomorrow!

Madmog Thu 29-Nov-12 08:39:49

So how's it been going for everyone?

I've been peckish in the evenings, but have been really good and just had a kiwi fruit the first night. I'm just cutting back on unhealthy snacks and trying to eat lower calorie meals rather than calorie counting. I added up how many calories I'd eaten yesterday and it was quite a few (but obviously less than normal!). I'll review things at each weigh in, if I have a bad week then I'll have to calorie count.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Thu 29-Nov-12 09:41:02

Sounds about right plaingirly then your target calories will reduce as you lose weight.

femmeaufoyer Thu 29-Nov-12 09:51:26

Yes, I'm in! But I'm due to give birth on 22nd so it may be cheating slightly as I'm guaranteed to lose half a stone! It's then the rest I'll have to shift!

fedupofnamechanging Thu 29-Nov-12 10:08:57

Morning all. Just done level one of the shred again. Slightly easier than yesterday, but I can see myself getting bored very quickly.

Seem to have put on a pound since yesterday, despite doing the shred and ending the day with a couple of hundred calories to spare. Think it might be due to all the dairy milk I ate the day before yesterday!

Hope today is going well for everyone

sweetheart Thu 29-Nov-12 11:32:52

Morning all!

Hope everyone is feeling good and positive today!

I have gotten into teh habit of having an option hot choc with a bit of squirty cream on top which I think is probably hindering my weight loss a bit so I'm trying to cut that out in the evenings. I had some pineapple last night instead which brough me in under my 1200 cals - if I'd had the hot choc I would have hit 1200.

I also had a good session with a PT last night (dispite dreading it all day!) so that made me feel much better and focused to stay a bit more on track throughout December. He has suggested doing something called "10 of 10" while I'm off owrk over xmas to stay on track. It's basically doing 10 reps of 10 exercises which only takes a few minutes and could be done with the kids around as soon as I've got up. then I can just jump in the shower knowing I'm done for the day. Exercises doe 10 of 10 include things like:-
Squat thrusts
push ups
back / tricep dips
sit ups
squat jumps
star jumps
mountain climbers
30sec sprint on spot

karma - thanks for the heads up on the ready meals I'll check those out. I also wonder if M&S ones are any good? I tend to bulk them out by adding lots of yummy veg and a Aunt Bessie yorkshire pudding grin

planigirly - 1000 cals per day is quite low! Esp if mfp is suggesting 1400.

With mfp I always aim to be lower on my carbs and higher on my protein but that's because I'm doing a fair bit of exercise so I need the protein to repair my muscles and also a lower carb diet reduces bloating around the stomach area. I can't do NO carb or very low carb though! I love my carbs too much!

laptopdancer Thu 29-Nov-12 14:25:32

I am back on the wagon after the first Xmas festive meal. Just putting it behind me now

twooter Thu 29-Nov-12 15:16:47

Not doing so good today. Will have to do some exercise later to make up.

fedupofnamechanging Thu 29-Nov-12 15:57:55

Oh dear - had a slice of Christmas cake for lunch. I know it contains fruit, but somehow I don't think it counts as healthy! It was nice though.

Low cal dinner for me, I think.

sweetheart Thu 29-Nov-12 16:01:00

Am I the only one having a good day today? It was beautiful weather here today (cold but lovely) so I went for a run at lunchtime which really lifted my spirits. Been good foodwise so far today and have netball training tonight so won't be at home to pick at things.

Not looking forward to the training so much though, it's outside so I'll be bloody freezing! How many calories does shivering burn do you think? grin

Joycey29 Thu 29-Nov-12 16:47:59

Well -I m doing ok - lots of walking up and down stairs at work.
Didn't t succumbe to the sandwiches at break and avoided snacking at kids tea.
Shred DVD turned up - slightly nervous but going to give it a go!
Be strong - so easy to slip in the evening!!!

AsparagusFern Thu 29-Nov-12 16:59:23

Afternoon all!

Wow, we'll done to those managing to exercise outdoors! Blooming freezing today!

I've had a not bad day.... Had All Bran for breakfast then a very protein-y lunch consisting of prawns, chicken, an egg and hummous. MFP saying enough with the protein already!

Just read this article online in today's Daily Satan: www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2240003/Its-hell-feast-famine-diet-help-drop-dress-size--live-longer.html

I had actually never heard of this 5:2 thing before reading these fitness threads on MN this week. Anyone on this thread trying it?

I always thought not eating all day was bad for you.... Seems to be the antithesis of the low GI/GL thing that I'm trying and which tells you to eat every 3-4 hours.....

(Apols if this diet is old news and been discussed to death.... Was news to me!)

I'm not doing so well today.

I had my porridge for breakfast, yuck. Had a bananan as a snack mid morning and then eggs on toast at lunch time.

Have just had chicken in garlic sauce, salad and jacket spud with cheese.

Have only done the school run as exercise too.

It's so bloody hard cos i feel hungry all the time.

laptopdancer Thu 29-Nov-12 18:30:21

Ive been ok.....40g cereal and s/sk milk bfast, lean ham and tomato sandwich (grainy bread) and banana pre school run. For tea its a salad and chicken skewer (breast cubed on a skewer).

TheReturnOfBridezilla Thu 29-Nov-12 18:37:22

Seven pounds is exactly what I want to lose. It would make me so happy if I could but motivation /self control is out of the window at the moment. I can but try!

TheReturnOfBridezilla Thu 29-Nov-12 18:39:27

I'm starting tomorrow. [ahem]

Joycey29 Thu 29-Nov-12 18:45:48

Come on Bride - join us tomorrow and we ll get there.
Never been so motivated as having this many eyes on my food in take.
Just done Shred level 1 and I ache but reckon wont be long til I m on level 2!!

sweetheart Fri 30-Nov-12 19:43:45

It's been quiet on here today! Well ve been feeling really puckish all day, I think it must be because it's so bloomin cold. I had yoghurt and half a banana for breakfast, crisp reads with light Philli and ham for lunch. Snacks were a few nuts, an apple and a bit of toffee popcorn which wasn't my finest hour and just had a chilli with cheeses grated on top and sour cream - whoops! Still I went for a bike session at the gym earlier so if I can avoid eating anything else before bed I should be ok.

How's everyone else don't today?

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Fri 30-Nov-12 20:22:57

I'm doing well so far. Was at work so no picking. Porridge for bf, 2 eggs an a wholemeal pitta and a pear for lunch and tea coming soon - chicken kebab :-) best skinny take out :-) but will steal some of DHs chips.
Off for the weekend tomorrow so did a good run last night and feel I can be a little bit off diet this weekend.

plaingirly Fri 30-Nov-12 20:32:13

I don't feel hungry .... managed to resist chocolate today .... looking forward to Zumba next week.

Instead of eating a whole pack I ate 2 jelly beans and that was enough.

Think I must have bumped my head or something - acting like a crazy person!

AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 20:32:24

Evening all

I've had a good day so far: boiled egg and one slice wholemeal toast for breakfast; low fat cheese and oatcake for snack; sweet potato and cottage cheese for lunch; and prawn and chicken stir fry for dinner.

My problem is definitely now until bedtime......the danger zone!

8pm-10pm is a killer when I'm trying to avoid snacking!

AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 20:34:42

plaingirly well done for stopping at two jelly beans! That is willpower indeed!

plaingirly Fri 30-Nov-12 20:44:47

I even logged them on MFP!

I would normally just have eaten them all but wasn't really tempted. Hopefully that means that this will be a lifestyle change rather than a short term diet.

AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 20:53:02

I totally agree about lifestyle change. I keep smiling thinking this is the 'new me'! I hope so!

(I've also caught myself giggling when I've input really silly things into MFP. Am trying to remember the silliest thing I've input. Three green olives?!)

plaingirly Fri 30-Nov-12 20:57:18

I am trying to imagine what I will look like at my goal. Can't imagine it!

Have been looking at the before / after pictures that people have posted - amazing differences! Some look like totally different people!

Strange to feel excited about it all - normally I feel deprived and miserable.

AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 21:02:13

That's so good you're excited.... Me too! I'm already fantasising about what life would be like without a muffin top. It's been so long that I've had one.... I just can't imagine!

plaingirly Fri 30-Nov-12 21:11:20

I haven't been slim since I was a skinny minnie at about 10!

Can't imagine being able to wear whatever I want! Got to stay motivated!!

I even want to do exercise so I can log it. I sound insane!

The mfp site is really supportive too - people commenting and motivating others.

sweetheart Fri 30-Nov-12 21:13:43

Epic fail here, made an options hot choc and sneeked a few squares of the kids chocolate that was in the cupboard sad this weekend is going to be bad, I can tell!

AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 21:16:53

plaingirly I know what you mean - I haven't been skinny since I hit 14. I don't think I ever will be again, but I'd be happy with slim!

AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 21:17:51

sweetheart don't worry too much. A few squares are fine! (although dark is probably better than milk)

Joycey29 Fri 30-Nov-12 21:18:03

No panic Asparagus I m well and truly off the wagon!
I am four glasses of red wine in and a pack of cheese strings - ooops!! blush

AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 21:22:40

Don't worry joycey they do say red wine is healthy!!

PS. I want red wine now! grin

QuinnFabray Fri 30-Nov-12 21:44:53

Plaingirly, I was never a slim adult. From the age of 15 I've been anything from a 12 to an 18. Most of that time about a 14-16. The time I was a 12 was very short lived. I thought I was meant to be about a size 14 naturally. At the age of 33 I lost four stone and went down to a size 8/10 and have stayed there every since. I'm now 37. I never in my wildest dreams imagined I was supposed to be this slim, and it took a lot of getting used to. But it is possible. It took me about a year I guess.

plaingirly Fri 30-Nov-12 22:13:51

Wow! Well done!

I am a 16 now and want to lose 58 pounds to hit my first goal - am seeing how I feel when I get near that amount though.

I have been in denial for a long time - denying what I was eating and pretending that my weight didn't bother me.

Not sure what size I will be when I reach my goal but at 5'2 and 26 years old I shouldn't be carrying all this extra weight and feeling old before my time. Feeling motivated!!

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Fri 30-Nov-12 22:19:21

plaingirly it can be done. It's not even too hard once you're in the swing of things. As you see the weight coming off and how fantastic you feel and look it will spur you on. And time flies.

QuinnFabray Fri 30-Nov-12 22:24:25

If I can do it, anyone can. Just one day at a time. It seems daunting now, but in just a few months time you could be in a totally different place. Don't know what made me finally do it, something just clicked in my head and I got into the zone and did it. Best thing is being able to shop in Topshop. I know that's silly, but it feels amazing. And you're still so young. . . Now I'm heading towards 40, I wish I'd done it in my 20's and not wasted so much time being fat and unhappy. I'm not saying all fat people are unhappy or unworthy, but that is exactly how I felt, and changing was the best thing I ever did.

Movingforward123 Fri 30-Nov-12 22:43:39

Hi, I would like to join too, I started my fitness pal on Monday I was 10.6 stone confused I have stuck to it finally and today was 10.2.4 smilesmilesmile

I'm sure I've only lost water but that's good enough for me! If I could loose 7lbs before Xmas would be lovely smile

So has everyone got 1200 cals per day?

fedupofnamechanging Fri 30-Nov-12 22:51:55

I went to Harrods today and bought a tuck load of posh chocolate, which I then scoffed before I even left the food hall.

Back on diet tomorrow!

QuinnFabray Fri 30-Nov-12 23:02:30

I'm struggling a bit on 1200 a day. I was fine for the first four days, but now I'm hungry. Writing off the weekend though, as going to a ball tommorrow night, so will be eating and drinking loads, and then comfort eating whilst hungover on Sunday. I'm fully expecting to put the 2lbs I've lost this week back on, and be be back to square one on Monday.

Joycey29 Fri 30-Nov-12 23:04:33

Karma you make me feel better - wine bottle gone and Chocs imbibed x

Joycey29 Sat 01-Dec-12 07:57:33

Must do better today!!hmm

AViewfromtheFridge Sat 01-Dec-12 08:12:17

I downloaded MFP after reading this thread on Tuesday - it's brilliant! I was labouring under the misapprehension that I didn't overeat, but it's quite shocking to realise how all that picking adds up.

I've been gradually putting on weight for the last year - would really like to lose half a stone by the end of the month. I'm also doing a 10k run at the end of the month, so need to limit my festive excesses a bit!

I've managed to stick to the 1200 calories, and done a couple of decent (4/5 mile) runs as well. No weight loss yet, but I already feel much better, which is the main thing really!

Thanks for stating this thread!

laptopdancer Sat 01-Dec-12 08:29:52

Woo....so far 5 lb lost....2 more to the half stone but 5 more to my pre Xmas goal

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 08:46:49

I have been on my healthy me plan for 2 weeks today. Weigh in for the first time this evening! Scared!! Don't feel any lighter!

fedupofnamechanging Sat 01-Dec-12 08:46:58

Good morning everyone.

Back on diet today and doing my very best to resist the sugar shell coated chocolate balls, dipped in icing sugar that I bought for the kids, which are calling me from the fridge!

laptopdancer Sat 01-Dec-12 08:53:26

Oh my gosh, I love those karmabeliever. They are so easy to eat the whole packet too....
I have a "no chocolate until xmas day" policy. And the piece I choose betgter be good or I will feel so ripped off.

Rockchick1984 Sat 01-Dec-12 09:09:29

2.5lbs lost so far... Despite me having cake or chocolate every day blush

I've realised that I can't give up the treats, but I'm only eating ones that are really worth blowing the diet for (eg home made scone with jam and clotted cream, rather than a scone out of a packet with butter). I think the biggest thing for me has been limiting the take aways and alcohol, I've only drank once since trying to cut down!

Good luck for tonight plain - are you weighing yourself or have you joined a class?

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 09:11:35

Weighing myself!

I feel better and more energetic but not any lighter.

puggirl Sat 01-Dec-12 09:21:28

Please can I join? Dec 1st so got just under 4 wks to lose 1/2stone, then I can work on the other stone.
I am tired of feeling chubby, nothing fits me and look like a fat friend even when I make an effort to get dressed up. I have spent the last 2 years threatening to lose weight do about time I did something about it. Logging onto MFP now.

mirpuppet Sat 01-Dec-12 09:25:44

I unofficially joined on Monday.
Got MFP.
Cut down carbs.
Bit more exercise.
4 pounds lost -- I know water weight.
But it gives me incentive to stay the course this weekend.

ceeveebee Sat 01-Dec-12 09:53:49

I started a food diary on Monday and then got MFP on Wednesday, have stuck to 1200 all week (well, I had half a cupcake yesterday but walked it off!).. Not going to weigh myself till next weekend as I get depressed if the scales haven't moved. Now have to try to figure out how to fit exercise in - with 12 mo twins and working 3 days there never seems time to do anything other than walk with buggy - when do you all exercise?

MsGee Sat 01-Dec-12 10:26:45

Hi, sorry I disappeared <desperate for anyone to notice>.

I'm doing well on WW, looks like I've lost a couple of pounds since Monday but I always lose 3-4 pounds in first week of WW. I've been eating porridge too, find it really helps. Lunch is either half a sandwich and carrots / hummus. Or WW soup and carrots. I find the porridge helps delay lunch till 2 ish then the meagre lunch just keeps me going till dinner. Bit sick of makin DD peanut butter on toast and resisting though!

I might start the 30 day shred on Monday. How bad is it? Can you do it barefoot?

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 10:30:37

What usernames do you all have on MFP?

HelgatheHairy Sat 01-Dec-12 10:59:40

Yesterday should have been my second fast of the week (am doing 5:2) but, for the first time since I started this WOE, I blew it.

I had a mocha while shopping, then a scone with butter and jam, then I thought "sod it" and there was chocolate and LOTS of crisps and crackers. No actual dinner though. I feel terrible today, bloated and slightly sick with a headache.

I have PMT so I'm blaming my lack of willpower on that.

But on the plus side, I avoided having wine!

AsparagusFern Sat 01-Dec-12 12:46:02

Welcome all newbies and welcome back returners!

Good to have as much support as poss on this thread!

Plaingirly I'll PM you my username if you like?

Anyone else want to swap usernames on MyFitnessPal, just PM me.

AsparagusFern Sat 01-Dec-12 12:49:23

Helga how are you finding the 5:2? ('Woe' doesn't sound good...)

I'd never heard of it before, but just read an article about it the other day. It sounds effective....but tough!

AsparagusFern Sat 01-Dec-12 12:53:49

ceeveebee we will keep a beady eye on you from now if you'd like! smile

AsparagusFern Sat 01-Dec-12 12:56:23

haha oops. Trying to multi-task, unsuccessfully.

Beady eye message meant for MsGee

ceeveebee meant to say - I haven't started exercising yet as was on holiday, but back to usual from Monday.

I aim to go to the gym for 40 mins, 3 times a week, around 6pm. Can't manage more than 40 mins.....I get so bored otherwise!

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 12:59:37

Please do PM me it!

Would be fab to link up with more people on there!

AsparagusFern Sat 01-Dec-12 13:01:00

Great - have sent it.

bluebayou Sat 01-Dec-12 15:27:48

I have lost 3lbs so far in10 days , just calorie counting grin

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 15:50:10

I have 374 calories remaining unless I do some exercise!

HelgatheHairy Sat 01-Dec-12 16:12:46

Asparagus In general I LOVE 5:2. It's the only thing I've ever done that I haven't given up after a few weeks and that I keep seeing results with. I've been doing it now since the beginning of October and I've lost 12 pounds.

Yesterday was the first day I've completely given up on a fast day. It's normally really easy, I don't need to think about what to eat, and how much I can have, and how many calories and is that too much oil etc etc. I have one meal (and to be honest, I usually get an M&S ready meal) and a cup a soup and that's it.

AsparagusFern Sat 01-Dec-12 18:47:40

Wow helga 12 lb since Oct, that's pretty amazing!

I might look into it a bit more. The thing is I'm such a grazer.... At the moment I'm doing trying to do healthy grazing. So one meal a day would be such a change. Interesting though...

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 19:47:28

Am in shock - have lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks! Sure it must be mostly water weight though.

sweetheart Sat 01-Dec-12 19:50:21

WOW everyone sounds like they are doing soooo well. I'm trying to be good today, ate hardly anything all day but been making up fr t a bit this evening! Tomorrow will be a nightmare as we're going to the Chrstmas market in Winchester and goodness knows what food will be on offer BUT I do plan to take the kids ice skating so hopefully that will save me one calories and I'm all stocked up on Waitrose LF ready meals for next week.

sweetheart Sat 01-Dec-12 19:52:05

How much does everyone have to loose in total? For me these 7ibs are my last as I've already done 20lbs but I know for some of you it's the beginning or middle of you're journeys

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 19:56:29

I am just starting! 2 weeks on my healthy me plan. MFP is my new favourite thing!

I want to lose at least 58 pounds in total. 52 to go!!

AsparagusFern Sat 01-Dec-12 20:22:01

plain congrats - I know you were nervous about that weigh in. That's brill!

sweetheart for me I've always just been about half a stone more than I should be. My BMI is at the very top end of healthy (i.e. nudges overweight).

So I'm aiming to lose 5-6 pounds to get down to 9 stone. It doesn't sound like much - but (so far) I've never been able to do it!

fedupofnamechanging Sat 01-Dec-12 20:54:36

Asparagus, I am wanting to get to 9 stone, so am trying to lose the last half a stone, like you.

Have had a reasonable day - a little chocolate, but everything else has been low calorie and healthy.

plain, well done. I don't think that 6lb will all be water weight. 6lb is a proper loss smile

eumachia Sat 01-Dec-12 21:21:28

Hi, would really like to join this thread - I also have 5-6lbs to lose to get back to 9st 2 - a weight I haven't been for a very long time... - it would be fantastic to get there hmm

Joycey29 Sat 01-Dec-12 21:34:59

plain wow you are amazing! That s definitely not water!

Keep it up - I feel inspired! [pinches muffin top] blush

plaingirly Sat 01-Dec-12 21:56:58

Super excited to keep going but I want to weigh myself every day - not sure if that is a good idea!

Feeling motivated!

Muffin top? I have a whole bakery wrapped around me!

puggirl Sat 01-Dec-12 22:12:34

I need to lose 19lb in total. Was hoping to drop 7 before Xmas and push on with the rest in the new year. going gor a run in the morning (actually a slow ish jog) but it all helps.

Rockchick1984 Sat 01-Dec-12 23:30:29

Plain that's fantastic - congratulations thanks thanks thanks Don't kid yourself that it's water weight, that's real weight loss - think its about 2lb water loss that's why you will almost always lose a bit more the first week.

I've got about 7-10 lbs to get back to my pre baby weight, have already lost a lot (I gained nearly 5 stone blush ) but DS is nearly 2 and I'm really struggling to lose any more as its not much to lose IYSWIM but I'd feel so much better if I could fit in my old jeans! I'm only in my 20's and worry that I'll gain a small amount every few years, but overall it adds up to a lot (this is what my mum did, she was always a size 10 but gradually has ended up a size 14 over about 10 years).

plaingirly Sun 02-Dec-12 08:24:06

If it is mostly proper weight loss I am even more happy!!

Heartbeep Sun 02-Dec-12 10:11:21

well done plain!

first week of WW & i have just weighed in. I've lost 4.5lbs which is a good motivator as i'm so weak at times. I've been really good the odd kitkat here & there but I've not exceeded my point allocation.

Joycey29 Sun 02-Dec-12 10:59:53

So pleased with self. Went out for dinner at Pizza Express and discovered the Leggera pizza for only 500 calories. Made evening so easy as had glass of wine etc and still was close (confused) to calorie target.
Weighing in on Tuesday !

HelgatheHairy Sun 02-Dec-12 12:24:03

My scales is broken. There's something funny going on with them anyway. They just weighed me as 10 stone 14 pounds!! Which is 11 stone surely? But saying that the psychological boost from seeing a 10 on the scales means I'm keeping them!

AsparagusFern Sun 02-Dec-12 13:37:36

joycey LOVE the Leggeras!

rockchick yes, it does tend to creep up over the years, unless you keep an eye on things.

In my teens I was a 10, in my 20s a 12.

Now I'm 35, and I'm a 14 on top and a 12-14 on the bottom (am a v. annoying apple shape). Sometimes I'm a 16 on top if it's a particularly clingy top, and I need to hide my bulges.

Any other apples on here? It's such an annoying shape. Hoping to go jeans shopping soon if I lose this half a stone.

So tired of buying jeans that either fit my bum/hips but are too tight at the waist, or fit my waist, but are all baggy round the bum!

plaingirly Sun 02-Dec-12 16:14:31

I think I am an hourglass / pear shape! Can't really tell with all the podge!

hoochymama1 Sun 02-Dec-12 16:45:21

Yes, I'm in please! I'm an apple and have totally given up jeans, am now in leggings ALL the time, which is half the problem methinks, they're so streeeetchy.
Will hot foot it to MFP to resume my (lapsed) membership) !

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Sun 02-Dec-12 17:30:22

Hi all. Back from a fabulous spa overnight break. Oh my goodness these should be available on prescription! As an added bonus all is reasonably quiet and tidy upon my return who stole my husband and replaced him with superdad?
Did ok with my 3 course meal last night and stopped the main when I'd had enough and barely touched the pud - just wasn't nice enough for the calories. Did 50 lengths of the smallish pool so all good there.
However, I then had about 4 different cocktails and a cooked breakfast this morning. Then I had a cheese ploughmans and chips shock for lunch. So basically it would be difficult to get any worse.
However, tomorrow is another day and I will be a good girl.
Huge well done to plaingirly who goes straight to the top of her class for her fabulous weightloss. smile

fedupofnamechanging Sun 02-Dec-12 19:15:05

Hi all. I seem to be losing and regaining the same half a pound. Had a good day today (quorn bacon sandwich for breakfast, fish and steamed veg and fruit for dinner) - am hoping to finish with 100 calories to spare (to make up for previous days when I have gone over the 1200).

Kids back at school tomorrow, so will be able to do the shred in the morning. I can't do it when they are here because they all laugh.

plaingirly Sun 02-Dec-12 20:08:05

I want to do the Shred but I live with my parents .... not sure they would appreciate me bouncing about upstairs! My dad isn't supportive at all so it wouldn't go well if I wanted to kick him of of the living room.

Hmmm wonder how much jumping around is involved.

fedupofnamechanging Sun 02-Dec-12 20:37:24

There is lots of jumping around - not one for upstairs, really.

AsparagusFern Sun 02-Dec-12 22:29:25

plain Am sorry your dad's not supportive. Have you explained to him how important this is to you? What about your mum?

AsparagusFern Sun 02-Dec-12 22:36:15

Hoochymama1 being an apple's a nightmare isn't it?! Who'd have thought buying something so simple as jeans could be so traumatic smile

coocoocachoo Sun 02-Dec-12 22:40:59

Norovirus - 9lbs in 6 days - job done! Or so I thought.......

Whole bloody lot regained in 2 days. Am joining thread after having a pasty for breakfast, a 3 course pub lunch followed by bowl of cereal and half a pack of fig rolls.

Am off to bed to dream of a low fat tomorrow.

plaingirly Mon 03-Dec-12 06:57:52

My mum is supportive but my dad isn't - anything that puts him out is a bad thing. Although he makes plenty of comments about my weight. Can't win there!

He doesn't really go out on an evening but when he does on a weekend I will just have to spring into action and get a DVD on!

Joycey29 Mon 03-Dec-12 07:38:03

Morning! Was all set for a good day.
Did shred last night and was within calorie count on mfp - yay!
Today feel rough - how many calories in a lemsip?

Still don't feel like eating much so an looking on bright side.

AsparagusFern Mon 03-Dec-12 09:04:47

joycey & coocoo Sorry you've both been / are getting ill.

plain I empathise. My dad bless him has been known to make similar comments.

I'll never forget as a little kid watching some film with Sigourney Weaver in in which she looked skeletal. Someone commented on her looking too thin, and dad said pointedly 'Thin is good!'. Sigh....

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Mon 03-Dec-12 11:14:59

plain could you bribe him into the kitchen with a newspaper or new book or something? Make him a nice cuppa and appeal to his better nature (if he has one)?

sweetheart Mon 03-Dec-12 14:20:03

Plain could you go out for a little jog around the block instead? Get out and get some fresh air? If you're not very good at jogging check out the couch to 5k programme which would ease you in gently.

I am into a 4 day SMASH now! I have a heavy weekend ahead of me so I really need to be strict over the next 4 days to combat some of it so the plan is.......

Gym every lunchtime for 40mins
Some form of exercise every evening
ratatoulli for lunch (my fav very low cal lunch)
ready meals for dinner

I'm hoping to shift a couple of Ibs this way!

I hit my first target today and have 4Ibs left to go. All this hard work is currently making me think I don't want to indulge too much over Xmas but in reality I know I'll fall off the wagon in spectacular style once I get in the swing of things.

AsparagusFern Mon 03-Dec-12 14:24:58

sweetheart well done! Good work - keep it up!

Madmog Mon 03-Dec-12 14:34:08

I failed at the weekend! All willpower went out of the window on Friday when I walked into Tescos and bought us a bottle of wine. On top of that on Saturday my hubby came back with two pastry pies filled with salmon and not sure what else, but it was lovely - they were massive. I declined potatoes with mine though and just had a few veggies.

Anyway, back on course now and ready for weigh in tomorrow!

AsparagusFern Mon 03-Dec-12 15:06:34

Madmog I empathise. Xmas work party tonight, and it's bring a bottle. Vodka is low cal, but don't think they mean that kind of bottle!

Joycey29 Mon 03-Dec-12 16:28:31

Feeling crap so not going out to play in our League tonight - 80 mins hard exercise gone! hmm
Going to bed so I don't eat anymore!
Lemsip is 50 calories if anyone wants to know

laptopdancer Mon 03-Dec-12 16:32:49

I must admit, Im finding it very difficult to get outside to do my run this week ...so cold!

QuinnFabray Mon 03-Dec-12 16:44:28

I'm back on it, after a huge blow out at the weekend. 3 course Christmas dinner at the ball, lot's of alcohol, then lots of hangover food yesterday. Followed by an Ikea cooked breakfast this morning, gah! I've put back on the 2lbs I lost last week. I have a horrible feeling this could be a recurring theme. No more big night outs planned though, so will try again this week. 140 calorie chicken noodle soup for tea, trying to make up for the fry up I had this morning.

fedupofnamechanging Mon 03-Dec-12 17:48:15

Joycey, I would skip the lemsip and have some chai tea instead, with a couple of paracetamol. Chai tea is my new favourite thing after dairy milk and victoria sponge cake. It tastes like Christmas, and is calorie free.

Had a reasonable day so far. Have had some chocolate, but have accounted for it in my calorie count.

Am fed up of losing and regaining the same weight - am determined to crack it this time!

AsparagusFern Mon 03-Dec-12 23:02:20

Hideous, hideous night. Two helpings curry and rice, three slices Xmas chocolate log, endless pistachio nuts, three glasses white Zinfandel.

QuinnFabray Tue 04-Dec-12 07:04:26

Any tips for tackling PMT? I just want to stuff my face with sugary good stuff. Willpower goes out the window. Not just with food, I ending up buying high end make up online late last night. It's the same every month. Bonkers.

fedupofnamechanging Tue 04-Dec-12 07:42:00

Put on half a pound since yesterday sad

Am hoping it's just water fluctuations. Best stay off the bread today and do the shred which I ended up not doing yesterday, because i absolutely HAD to go shopping!

HelgatheHairy Tue 04-Dec-12 08:51:32

quinn that was me last week. Have no real advice as I just gave in. Not worth it though as ended up feeling crap. I'd advise lots of hot drinks ( not sure why but seems to help a bit)

sweetheart Tue 04-Dec-12 09:50:35

Asparagus, where were you to eat all that? Was it out of your control on a night out or was that just at home?

I weighed this morning and have lost 2Ibs since last Tuesday - was today weigh day?!?!?! I've got 3Ibs to go to my target but not sure I'll get there with all the meals out that are coming up! I'll be lucky to maintain!

Everyone seems to have lost their mojo a bit - stay positive and focused guys - 1 bad meal or night out DOES NOT have to ruin your whole week but it will if you let it!

AlienRefluxLooksLikeSnow Tue 04-Dec-12 09:53:07

Hia, how is everyone doing their weight loss? have been trying to low carb, and am really struggling this time, it's soooooo hard, would ideally like to lose a stone (not before xmas I'm sure!)

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 04-Dec-12 10:27:47

Well the weekend of indulgence has shown up and I'm back to square one. Boo. So no loss for me. Promise to be better this week. Zumba tonight too.

Madmog Tue 04-Dec-12 11:34:13

I've just done my weigh in after a week of being careful (not calorie counting) and I'm happy to say I've lost 3lbs. I've got 3 Xmas meals coming up over the next two weeks so that's a nice boost as I know I won't keep it up.

Anyone else weighed themself?

Joycey29 Tue 04-Dec-12 12:00:48

Well blow me down! I ve lost 3lb! An so chuffed just 4 more to go but back in my buffer and determined to stay in the zone!
Christmas meals - bring it on!! grin

AsparagusFern Tue 04-Dec-12 13:43:13

sweetheart I was at a work's Xmas party in someone's house, so tons of nibbles around as well as main meal served. The chocolate log was just delicious. I resisted it for an hour - but crumbled in the end! My willpower just goes to pot when yummy food is right in front of me.

alien I'm trying to lose weight by low GI/low GL principles. So cutting down on carbs unless they're whole grain. I find it pretty effective....unless someone puts an Xmas log in front of me!

madmog I weighed myself today. I'd lost 5lb in two weeks since starting with the low GI eating and MyFitnessPal. But after last night, gone up by a pound, so total weight loss since the start is 4lb.

AsparagusFern Tue 04-Dec-12 13:43:55

joycey well done! On a roll!

plaingirly Tue 04-Dec-12 17:10:17

Still feeling motivated!

There was a huge chocolate fudge cake at work today and I wasn't even tempted. Starting to feel like aliens have something to do with this ....

Only thing is I want to weigh myself every day - morning AND evening. I have resisted so far as I don't know if it is a good habit to be getting in to!

ceeveebee Tue 04-Dec-12 20:09:11

Hi all. I've managed to stay within 1200 calories for 9 days in a row now (as long as I last out tonight) and also did a Tracy Anderson DVD and a gym session over the weekend, feeling very virtuous today!
I've basically ate more or less same as usual just much smaller portions and skipping lattes and puddings.
Not weighed myself yet but hoping for at least 3-4 lb by weekend (in the two weeks)

sweetheart Tue 04-Dec-12 20:30:38

I have lots of calories left today so was going to have a Asda cookie. I thought I'd just check it on mfp and found it had over 250 calories in it shock I had enough to cover it but out it back, I'm not wasting that many cals on that! Never thought I'd say that wink

Urgh I've had a horrendous week - Thurs was DH's 40th and we've had various celebratory meals out on several occasions, plus the weekend at my DM's house with her trying to feed us all sorts of treats. I feel heavy and bloated. The past 2 days I have had a lot less sugar and dairy than normal (cut down on the hot chocolate, biscuits, chocolates - all my comfort foods!) and feel a bit better. I restocked the fruit bowl and am trying to retrain myself to reach for that instead of the chocolate cupboard... yes I do have almost an entire kitchen cupboard filled with chocolate and treats blush

Movingforward123 Tue 04-Dec-12 20:50:12

Hey everyone smile

Well I started last Monday at 10.6 stone sadsadsad

Goal weight is 9 stone confused

On Sunday I weighed 9.13.6 an was joyed smile bit was majorly hungover and stayed in bed until 4pm and barely drank and hadn't eaten all day.

Yesterday was 10.2.2 and today 10.1.4 smile I have been going over my 1200 calories abit some days but not too much over.

So total weightless in 8days is 5lbs smilesmile

If I managed to get down to 9.7 Quickly i would be over the moon!

Movingforward123 Tue 04-Dec-12 20:54:56

By my calculations I should be 9.10 by Xmas!

Also I have done shred before and after doing it for 10 days in a row, I lost 2 inches off my waist and hips each which was great but I didn't keep it up! I haven't been exercising for a few weeks and need to get back into it.

I'm also trying to go as low gi as possible, that means seedy bread, brown rice, I havnt bought brown pasta yet.

And in the last 8 days I have only had one bar of chocolate! Shocking for me, I'm so glad smile as normally I'm dying for it and I'm able to say no right now smile

AsparagusFern Tue 04-Dec-12 21:39:53

movingforward If you're doing low GI, I don't know about you but I struggle a bit with the taste of brown pasta....it's just so bleurgh.

My top tip is fettucine - it's low GI but a regular pasta. It's almost identical to tagliatelle, but for some reason is low GI. I'd go for that instead.

For bread, I love rye bread or stoneground bread - harder to find in small supermarkets but the big ones have them. Tesco's do a great one in their finest range. (If you're only eating one slice a day, the extra ££ is not too bad!)

laptopdancer Wed 05-Dec-12 06:47:39

Weigh in for me and I've lost 6 lb all up. Only 1 lb to the pre xmas half a stone loss and 4 lb to go to my own pre xmas goal.
Thing is, my xmas starts on 18th as I am away that week and then away at xmas. Im so worried all my hard work will be undone. Determined not to!
I think just making sure I eat aboslutely nothing outside of meal times and my running is making a big difference.

Eliza22 Wed 05-Dec-12 08:22:56

Ok, so it's not a massive weight loss but.....

So far, doing the Couch2 5k (and I've needed to repeat week 1 'cause frankly, it nearly killed me) and the India Knight (go organic/NO low fat or "diet" products) I have lost 4lbs, an average of 2lbs per week.

I'm very pleased with myself!

I eat fairly organic anyway but have chucked out low fat spreads, low fat yoghurts, low fat cheese etc. Have cut down (though its the wrong time of year to cut out) carbs. Still love a chicken tikka masala grin but eat HALF of the portion I'd normally devour. So, I don't feel like I'm "giving up" and therefore craving, anything.

In the past, I've always "gone on" diets, lost weight and relapsed. It'll take me some time, like this, to lose the 14 - 18 lbs I'd like to lose but, frankly at 50 I'm fed up with traditional "diets". I don't have a huge amount to lose but it's the difference between getting into over half the clothes in my wardrobe comfortably and not feeling sluggish/tired all the time and NOT.

Oh, and red wine? Not giving it up but have cut my consumption by half.

Eliza22 Wed 05-Dec-12 08:25:07

Oh, and have read the above and really, well done Ladies!!

puggirl Wed 05-Dec-12 08:40:33

I am religiously filling out MFP and have shifted only a pound so far. I did re read some posts last night and that spurred me on to go out for a run for 35 mins.

Going to try Dime bar today as treat rather than devouring body weight in Malteasers.

Madmog Wed 05-Dec-12 10:24:42

Agree with Eliza22, well done everyone. We're probably all going to have good and bad weeks weight loss wise or the odd day when we're going to eat more (ie Xmas meals out, just can't resist something), but the main thing if that we remain focussed. I'm eating out with friends on Friday and am going to skip the starter and pudding, but have a glass of wine. Will probably eat more calories than usual that day, but less than I would usually have done on a meal out.

Movingforward123 Wed 05-Dec-12 11:33:07

Asparagus thanks I will give it a try smile

Any other low gi tips? I'm having low at youghart and chocolate snack a jacks not sure if they are ok for low gi tho?

Movingforward123 Wed 05-Dec-12 11:33:36

laptop well done I'm so envy smile

laptopdancer Wed 05-Dec-12 12:18:14

Yoghurt is low Gi, so is a glass of skimmed milk

Thanks movingforward123 smile

fedupofnamechanging Wed 05-Dec-12 15:21:24

I seem to be stuck at 9.5. Am also really struggling to give up chocolate and just feel hungry all the time.

Eliza22 Wed 05-Dec-12 15:53:22

Ooh DON'T give up chocolate. Think of all the antioxidant goodness you'll be missing. Just don't eat much of it, in one sitting!

laptopdancer Wed 05-Dec-12 15:55:54

I have one of those light hot choc drinks each day (aldi). That does me.

fedupofnamechanging Thu 06-Dec-12 08:42:07

Right, back on the diet properly today. Going on a walk with dd's school this morning, which will at least keep my fingers out of the biscuit tin!

When I first started this, I was so disciplined - am not sure what has happened, but I must get that early enthusiasm back.

ceeveebee Thu 06-Dec-12 09:18:38

Bad bad bad day yesterday. Was work's Xmas party. I reckon I had 6 glasses of champagne/wine so that's blown my 1200 target by about double, and now my hangover needs feeding with bacon sarnies and lattes ... Oh dear. Back on it tomorrow!

Madmog Thu 06-Dec-12 14:50:19

karmabeliever, if you really do feel hungry grab a piece of fruit or perhaps have some carrot or pepper sticks before you are tempted by anything else. I don't think it helps with it being cold, so an alternative is a piece of toast and a little jam (less calories than spread) with tea/coffee which may keep you going longer and just have a few less calories with your next meal.

Most of us are going to have days where we have lapses, ie not being able to resist something, meals out. I think the thing is to just accept that but be good the rest of the day. We can get there!!

fedupofnamechanging Thu 06-Dec-12 14:58:53

Better day today, so far. Have had chocolate, but accounted for it within my calories. Have also been out walking a fair bit, so not just sitting down, all day.

Madmog, I think I need to go shopping and get some more fruit and other lowish calorie, but filling food for when I get the munchies.

Annoyingly, Haagan Dazs is on offer. This never happens when I am not on a diet!

laptopdancer Thu 06-Dec-12 15:15:36

I was going to be lazy today as it's freezing and sat and sat and sat past my usual run time. Then I felt guilty and did 15 minutes (had to cut short as I'm off on school run soon).
Well at least I did that I guess .

plaingirly Thu 06-Dec-12 17:50:58

Work Christmas party tomorrow - no idea what the food will be but it is always unhealthy!

Plus I have given up fizzy drinks so I don't even know what I will be drinking!

Still intending to log EVERYTHING!

Joycey29 Fri 07-Dec-12 07:19:51

iPhone playing up so haven't been able to post but have been lurking!
Well done on all the weight loss.
It's about the time when I lose impetus but we can do it!
I agree, we need to accept the days we can t control but be strong when we can!
Come on girls!
All I want for Christmas is a waist!

I lost 2.2 pounds this week- pleased by that!

Joycey29 Sat 08-Dec-12 20:40:49

Well done you two ! Massive losses! Keeping on it here (with a glass or two of wine)
Had hair cut as a half way reward and feel a new women!
3.5lb to go! grin

Movingforward123 Sat 08-Dec-12 22:44:29

joycey the hair cut might help with weightloss gringrin

Well I have had one glass of wine and a vodka as there wasn't another bottle of wine which I was very sad about grin

ceeveebee Sun 09-Dec-12 08:23:03

Damn. Only lost 3lb in two weeks. I reckon most of that was in week 1, I've been over target 3 days this week. Oh well better than nothing and nearly 1/2 way to 1/2 stone!
Well done everyone else!

fedupofnamechanging Sun 09-Dec-12 09:49:23

Am at 9.4, so have lost 1lb. have been gaining and losing this lb for ages though - am hoping it is not just water loss this time.

Out to lunch for mil's birthday later, so having soup for breakfast, which only has 200 calories. Feels a bit weird when everyone else has bacon sarnies, but I bough skinny jeans for the first time yesterday - am terrified of getting to fat to fit in them!

Well done to everyone who has lost this week.

Lane81 Sun 09-Dec-12 10:01:16

I'd like to join. Need to lose 18lbs baby weight but 7 before Christmas would be good. Planning on doing Davinia DVD every day, but this 30 day shred sounds good!

plaingirly Sun 09-Dec-12 10:16:52

Just done 30 mins on the stationary bike then had mandarins for breakfast!

Can't believe that I am actually wanting healthy food and making healthy choices - I think logging my food has made me think a lot more about what I am eating.

50 pounds to go to my goal weight!

Madmog Sun 09-Dec-12 11:49:25

ceeveebee - they say it's better to loose it slowly and anyway, 3lbs is good - you should be proud of yourself - keep it up. If we have a bad week, the main thing is that we don't put anything back on.

ceeveebee Sun 09-Dec-12 12:14:04

Thanks madmog. It did motivate me to go for a 30 min run this morning so feeling very virtuous now!

fedupofnamechanging Sun 09-Dec-12 16:05:58

Went out for lunch - all the calories were printed on the menu. Ordered the lowest calorie lunch I could find (549), but then ballsed it up by eating choc fudge cake (I did skip the ice cream though).

What's worrying is that I could still murder a Dime bar and some chips!

Movingforward123 Sun 09-Dec-12 18:02:16

ceev how much do you weigh right now? And how much do you want to loose? As If you only need to loose a little then it might be slower! I think the only reason I lost that much was as it was my first two weeks. I know it will soon start to slow down.

Movingforward123 Sun 09-Dec-12 18:03:22

karma how much do you want to weigh? If I was 9.4 right now I would be so happy grin

laptopdancer Sun 09-Dec-12 18:14:13

Went shopping with the family today and where is DH desperate to go? A bloody buffet restaurant with all the high calorie food you could name.
So, back on the rails tomorrow! (and I will have to run my fat little legs off)

AsparagusFern Sun 09-Dec-12 18:21:19

Hi all

Big congrats on everyone's weight loss...!

For those whose weight loss is slowing down..... I totally empathise!

I lost almost six pounds in the first two weeks, however - first few days I was losing OVER a pound, then a pound a day, then 0.8 lb, then half a pound, and now I'm down to losing 0.2 lb a day - even though my diet has been the same the odd big bender aside

To achieve this 0.2 lb loss, I have to be really strict and eat on or under my 1200 calorie limit. Am keeping on keeping on though!

AsparagusFern Sun 09-Dec-12 18:31:15

movingforward You asked about any other low GI tips.

My diet at the mo is full of stuff like:

- eggs
- tomatoes
- rocket / watercress (salad with an oomph, basically, as iceberg gets so dull)
- feta and mozarrella cheese
- olives
- avocados
- prawns
- chicken
- salmon and smoked salmon (when I can afford)
- blueberries, raspberries
- porridge oats for brekkie and oat cakes for snacks
- sweet potatoes
- rye crackers / bread
- hummous

All are low GI and it really seems to be working. I really don't feel hungry, and my craving for sugar seems to have genuinely gone down (big aim of low GI).

There were two family sized tins of Celebrations and Roses at work the other day and I didn't have a single choc! Totally out of character / unprecedented behaviour I am actually amazed! I really think GI works if you really need to get control back over sugar/carb cravings.

AsparagusFern Sun 09-Dec-12 18:33:19

karma Though that doesn't make me still go hmmm when I read the words 'Dime bar'!

plaingirly Sun 09-Dec-12 18:48:01

I love Dime Bars! Wonder how many calories are in one - sure I could fit one into my allowance!

AsparagusFern Sun 09-Dec-12 18:50:40

Aargh Dime bars are the best!! And that Milka Dime bar chocolate.....heaven! (Sorry..not helping matters am I? smile)

laptopdancer Sun 09-Dec-12 18:51:37

Im sure that mentioning dime bars is breaking mumsnet talk guidelines :p wink

ceeveebee Sun 09-Dec-12 18:54:23

Movingforward I am 9st8 now. I used to be 8 1/2 stone size 8 before I had my twins, went up to 13 1/2 stone!! Most of it was baby and fluid but its taken a long time to get back down again, and I just want to be a size 10. I think I need to get down to 9stone to be a 10.

AsparagusFern Sun 09-Dec-12 18:59:08

laptop Yes, I feel like reporting my own post!

plaingirly Sun 09-Dec-12 19:33:27

Only 155 calories - entirely possible!!

AsparagusFern Sun 09-Dec-12 19:44:52

DEFFO possible grin

Joycey29 Sun 09-Dec-12 21:20:34

Have fallen off wagon!
DH with manflu, survived all day, porridge, roast with plenty if veg and then....
An entire box of Co-op's finest cheese straws washed down with wine!
Typical! I blame DH! hmm

AsparagusFern Sun 09-Dec-12 21:40:40

Ah fret not joycey - what are Sundays for if not cheese straws and red wine. Tomorrow is another day!

fedupofnamechanging Mon 10-Dec-12 07:58:01

Have put on over a pound since yesterday, having eaten 2 dime bars and a handful of galaxy counters (which I don't even like!)

Drastic measures called for, so am going completely cold turkey on the cooc until Christmas!

Really want to be 9st at Christmas but donif 't know if it is doable now.

HelgatheHairy Mon 10-Dec-12 08:46:36

I've fallen off the wagon. I think from now on I'm just going to focus on maintaining, rather than putting pressure on myself to lose. I don't have any willpower against Baileys coffee with brandy cream!

QuinnFabray Mon 10-Dec-12 09:30:34

Right, I'm back on it today. Quite honestly, I'd rather lose and gain the same two pounds over and over again, than keep on gaining one two pounds after another ( if that makes sense!).

So, I started at 9.6 and a half, lost two pounds in the first week, gained two pounds in the second week. So this week I'm going to lose that same two pounds again!

Movingforward123 Mon 10-Dec-12 09:34:10

ceev how tall are you? I am 5,2 and need to be around 9 stone to be a size 10 too.

Only 13 lbs to go for me now smile as yesterday I hit the half stone mark but was unsure if it was just because I has alone alcohol the night before, but I weighed myself today and I'm now 9.13.6 gringrin so half stone done! So for Christmas I should be able to get down to 9.9 and will be really happy.

What exercise is everyone doing? I need to start going to the gym but keep putting it off. I should have went this morning but wussed out. I know as I loose weight my belly will look like a deflated balloon! hmm

Movingforward123 Mon 10-Dec-12 09:36:25

helga I have wanted to loose weight for about two years, but was in the right frame of mind. Tried many diets but lost basically nothing as wasn't ready. So if your not ready maintenance would be a better idea until you can give it a go! Try not to feel bad as that makes you eat more!

Movingforward123 Mon 10-Dec-12 09:38:28

karma I am a absolute chocoholic! If there's chocolate I have to finish it all! So I had to stop it completely! Well I had 2 twixs in the last two weeks. But instead of chocolate I am having chocolate flavours snack a jack, they are massive and only 61 cals, maybe you should get done of those?

Madmog Mon 10-Dec-12 10:51:01

Joycey29, today is a new start. I was really good on Saturday and even though tea was about to be cooked, scoffed a load of peanuts (they were meant to be for Xmas and only lasted eight hours in the house without being opened) with some wine!

Spons Mon 10-Dec-12 10:57:24

I lost this thread! Have lost 3lbs, I'm v pleased! Another 3 before Xmas would be fab, this thread has really helped though. Thinking of other people has stopped me going to greggs in more than one occasion!! I think today might be a naughty day (cake for breakfast) but I'm doubling up on gym classes the rest if the week to compensate!

Well done and thanks everyone!

laptopdancer Mon 10-Dec-12 11:44:42

movingforward I am 5 foot 2 and find I have to be 8 stone to be size 10! Odd eh?

laptopdancer Mon 10-Dec-12 11:45:20

Anyway, Im back on board the weight loss train after yesterdays buffet disaster. smile

ceeveebee Mon 10-Dec-12 13:28:49

Movingforward and laptopdancer I am also 5ft2 - spooky!
8 stone for me is a 6/8.

fedupofnamechanging Mon 10-Dec-12 15:01:33

Will have a look at the snack a jacks, for emergencies, but think I am going to try going without completely, until Christmas. I have been finding that one choc bar doesn't satisfy me and once I've had one, I just want to keep on going!

I have read on MN that sugar is toxic and once you have it, you just crave it more, so think I am going to try cutting out all sugar except naturally occurring ones, like in fruit.

Would be so happy if I could reach my target by Christmas and since there are only 2 weeks left I really have to get my arse into gear and stop messing about, if I want to stand any chance at all.

laptopdancer Mon 10-Dec-12 15:10:50

Try the hot choc drinks if you decide no cold turkey. I have one a day at 40 cals and it works a treat for me.
Sugar isnt toxic btw. but good idea to cut out for wt loss. Ive ditched the sugar (added sugar) and its helping too smile

AsparagusFern Mon 10-Dec-12 15:11:43

karma totally agree. I've cut out sugar the last 2.5 weeks and I can feel a massive difference and cravings substantially reduced salivating over Dime bars yesterday aside

ceevee, moving and laptop I'm 5'2" and three quarters (so take the liberty of rounding up to 5'3")

I've just hit 9.2 stone today. I started at around 9.7 so am pleased. Amazed how big my muffin top still is though....

I really don't know how I'm going to shift that. So think I need to get to at least 9 stone.

(Am still a size 12 at 9 stone. Think I would have to be well under 9 stone to get down to a 10.)

laptopdancer Mon 10-Dec-12 15:13:35

I have the lovely muffin top too but even have that when at a good weight. I find swimming helps reduce it (I do crawl).

Movingforward123 Mon 10-Dec-12 15:22:12

Oh it's very strange that we all vary so much on size even thought we are all around the same height.

If I was 9 stone I think I would be 8-10 but 8 would be too tight if you see what I mean! But could fit wink

If I was 8 stone I think I would be 6-8 that would be way too tiny for me. 9 stone is perfect smile

laptopdancer Mon 10-Dec-12 15:24:12

I think it depends on distribution...mine is all very much around my midriff

Movingforward123 Mon 10-Dec-12 15:24:13

asparagus well done smilesmile I'm envy grin

I have also found that cutting right back on sugar has helped my cravings. Before could easily manage a family sizes galaxy bar per day confused

But now I have the chocolate snack a jacks or an options hot chocolate which are libel and also 40 calories!

AsparagusFern Mon 10-Dec-12 15:47:02

Thanks moving! smile

laptop I am the same - it's all around my flippin' midriff. I don't know about you, but I'm a classic apple (was moaning about this up post!).

I have fairly broad shoulders, large rib cage, moderately chesty and negligible hips and bum. This means I have never in living memory been a size 8 - not even when I was a teenager.

I think if I was nothing but skin and bones I still wouldn't fit into an 8 - my frame just wouldn't allow it. I would soooo love to be an 8 but it just doesn't seem attainable for me. (You can see me on MFP. BTW if anyone esle is on MFP btw and wants to message me their username, would love more moral support! Am friends with plain and joycey on there at the mo.)

There was a really interesting post on another thread recently about the different sizes/shapes people are at the same height/weight. Will try to find it!

AsparagusFern Mon 10-Dec-12 16:04:26

Aha - found it! It was only the other week, you might've already seen it. Really interesting though. Shows how people just carry their weight differently.

I think what is universal though is that when you're around 5'2", if you put on a few extra pounds, it shows a lot more than on taller people. Probably stating bleedin' obvious So we have to be so much more careful - unfair! envy

plaingirly Mon 10-Dec-12 16:48:39

I'm 5'2" and a 1/4!

Miles off a size 10 though!

AsparagusFern Mon 10-Dec-12 17:00:17

You're going great guns and getting there though plain! smile

fedupofnamechanging Mon 10-Dec-12 18:49:47

Are we all 5'2" on this thread, then? At 9.5, I am a size 12, but it really does depend on the clothes. I bought the jeggings from M&S yesterday, in a 12, and they are a lovely fit, but the skirt from M&S in the same size is a bit big on the waist, although it is about right on the hips. I always think of M&S as generous in their sizing, so I think I would be a 14 in some shops the ones for skinny teenagers, anyway.

AsparagusFern Mon 10-Dec-12 19:16:31

Yes, it so depends on clothes. That's why I don't really like buying clothes online - it's so hit and miss.

plaingirly Mon 10-Dec-12 19:22:22

I wonder what weight I would have to be to be a size 10.

13 stones 2 pounds was a 16 on me.

Can't believe I have lost 8 pounds so far - just got to keep it up! And survive all the temptations!

Movingforward123 Mon 10-Dec-12 19:23:00

And talking about that muffin top, I defiantly have that! And my belly is a jelly belly, so wobbly! And the skin will get looser as I loose weight confused what am I going to do about it??

Movingforward123 Mon 10-Dec-12 19:24:03

plain well done smilesmile how long have you been trying to loose weight? Are you also on my fitness pal?

AsparagusFern Mon 10-Dec-12 19:24:04

8 pounds is truly fab plain!

plaingirly Mon 10-Dec-12 19:29:48

I am in week 4 of the Healthy Me Plan! smile

Love MFP - have the same user name there.

QuinnFabray Mon 10-Dec-12 19:59:14

At 5'4 and 9stone6 I am a size 10, possibly a large 10 mind. I rarely wear jeans though, and dresses and skirts are generally more forgiving. At 8stone10, my lowest weight I was still mostly a 10, but the clothes I have fitted me better then. I expect I'm probably a 12 now to be honest, but I refuse to buy bigger clothes!

Joycey29 Mon 10-Dec-12 22:32:59

Ok - really weird - am 5'2 and a bit!
Am quite sporty and at 10st 6 ( top of my buffer) am a comfortable 12.
I reckon that Boden use me as their model as their size 12 is me!
Would love to get below 10st but would settle to back in my buffer.
Am 2 lb off but had another crap day!
Roll on tomorrow!

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Mon 10-Dec-12 22:34:44

plaingirly depends on your frame. I was an 18 at nearly 13 stone and an 10/12 at 8.10. Think I'd be a 10 if I lost another half stone.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Mon 10-Dec-12 22:36:32

joycey I think you must be one of those people with heavy bones! My bf is like that - way slimmer than me but a stone heavier.

AsparagusFern Mon 10-Dec-12 23:32:03

joycey I think if you're really sporty and fit a lot of it will be muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. It's that thing of the BMI/weight thing not being a good indicator.

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 11-Dec-12 09:08:16

Love that website someone linked to with the grid on.

AsparagusFern Tue 11-Dec-12 09:21:18

The different sizes/shapes at the same height/weight? So interesting, huh!

HelgatheHairy Tue 11-Dec-12 09:50:19

I'm back after a really bad day yesterday. I do 5:2 so fasted till dinner yesterday but end up having a pork chop & chips for dinner. Thought I'd blown it then and had romantica and microwave popcorn.

I have given up focusing on losing so am focused on maintaining but If I keep eating like that ill gain. So having a proper fast day today.

DH has started noticing my weight loss now too. He said my bum is smaller and I'm smaller all over. grin I need to be really careful now because usually the moment people start commenting on the fact I've lost weight I panic and put it all on again. I have no idea why.

HelgatheHairy Tue 11-Dec-12 09:53:14

Oh and I'm 5"3. Currently 10 stone 14. (I know, I know but it's what my scale has weighed me as 2 weeks in a row!) I'm a 16 on top and 16/18 on the bottom.

The lightest I have ever been was 8 stone 9 and I was 8/10 on top and 10/12 on the bottom. And I could wear knee high boots! Can't get my legs into them now!

Madmog Tue 11-Dec-12 11:22:33

Anyone else weighed in? I've lost a further 2lbs, so that makes 5lbs in total over the two weeks. BUT this may not be a true weight as I have flu at the moment and have just realized I only had about 850 cals yesterday. If I'm well enough, I have two Xmas meals lined up for Fri & Sat night and a birthday meal lined up for Sunday lunchtime, so I'm assuming I won't loose next week but am aiming to maintain. I'll go for the final 2lbs on my weigh in before Xmas.

Eliza22 Tue 11-Dec-12 12:07:56

Have weighed in this morning..... Total loss 5 lbs. Not sure from where though!

Have continued to run 5 x weekly with weekends off/lie in. The water's gone a bit by the wayside because I feel too darned cold to drink 2litres of cold water in my waking hours. Also, never off the loo!

Feel good though. And, feel confident that ill look nice, come Christmas, in my chosen clothes. Am having a "Jenna Elfman" short haircut tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Also, have recently put away the St Tropez/bronzing stuffs and gone PALE (I wasn't TOWIE - but I've not been this colour since Guerlain introduced their bronzing powders in the 80's). I look good without it. More real and appropriate for my advancing years!

I think we've all done fantastically! Going to feel so marvellous for Christmas and New Year! smile

laptopdancer Tue 11-Dec-12 12:10:06

I just made the fatal mistake.
Clothes shopping half way through a diet...anough to knock your motivation for six. BUT I WILL NOT GIVE UP!!!!

Eliza22 Tue 11-Dec-12 12:11:18

Laptopdancer.... Keep it together, girl! That's the spirit!

laptopdancer Tue 11-Dec-12 12:18:53

And apparently I am a size 14 jeans and a 22 coat hmm

Rockchick1984 Tue 11-Dec-12 12:34:43

Hi all, I disappeared for a LONG time, having completely blown the diet again! But will try to be good again now, scales are broken so can't weight until tomorrow to see what damage has been done blush but will get a bit of weight gone before the Christmas pig-out!

Eliza try drinking hot water with a squeeze of lemon, or a fruit tea as these both still count towards your 2 litres per day. I've really noticed an improvement in my skin since forcing myself to stick to 2 litres a day (and more if I've had wine the night before!)

Eliza22 Tue 11-Dec-12 12:46:41

Rockchick, thanks for the tip. Will try.

Don't weigh yourself for a week. That's not burying your head in the sand, more like giving yourself chance to get back on the wagon without feeling "it's pointless, I weight (whatever) now!!"

Madmog Tue 11-Dec-12 14:47:01

Wow Eliza22, I'm impressed, running 5xweekly. Good on you. Have the flu at moment, so am annoyed I missed my last aerobic class until after Christmas.

Eliza22 Tue 11-Dec-12 15:25:18

Madmog.... It's NOT as impressive as it sounds. It's 30 mins walk/run but, it's more than I was doing before, slouching and chatting my way around the gym. I like the fact that you can just do it. Straight from my front door instead of the trek to GET to the gym in traffic..... And back.

Also, the weather's been great for it, mostly. Not sure how enthused I will be in the rain!

sweetheart Tue 11-Dec-12 15:53:07

Hi all, been missing for a few days due to sheer busyness and no time to log in!

I'm pleased to say that after a terriblle weekend I've lost 1Ib this week - think I headed it off at the pass last week by doing 5 very low calories days with the ready meals in preperation for the bad weekend. So that's 3 in total for me (will probably be maintaining from here on in over the festive season - I hope!!!!)

Went to a spa with my sisters on Friday for a brithday treat. Ate LOADS of naughty food followed by a 3 course meal out and booze. Pretty much same Saturday, was my sons birthday so diet fell by the wayside and was overtaken by takeaway, nibbles and more booze. Sunday I started off trying to be good but there were too many residual nibbles and booze in the house.

This week I'm back on the ready meals again in preperation for another terrible weekend, got a BIG night out Saturday but there should be lots of dancing so I'm hoping that will be my saving grace!

It's pretty much downhill for me from here on in. Next Wednesday is my work xmas party and we have something on pretty much every night from then until the 31st!

Although I have to say, my body was crying out after 3 days of punishment and i was ready and eager to get back to some health eating. Goodness only knows how it's going to take the next couple of weeks!!!

plaingirly Tue 11-Dec-12 21:27:28

Hope everyone is doing well!

Just back in from Zumba - makes me a bit hyper!

Watching the US Year to Save my Life - the lady on it is over 400 pounds. Can't imagine what a challenge it would be to just do everyday things like climbing the stairs.

HelgatheHairy Wed 12-Dec-12 16:19:10

Well I was in, then I was out, then I was back in but now I'm DEFINATELY out as I just found out I'm pregnant!! Not saying anything in real life so getting it out on here. First baby!

What lovely news helga - congratulations.

Joycey29 Thu 13-Dec-12 07:28:28

Congratulations Helga!

Am trying to be super good but am staying at Aunts and she s loving having us to stay and cooking accordingly!

Thai fish cakes, roast veg and wedges last night!

MFP is going to explode - only good thing is regular sea side walks, and less wine etc!wine

Weigh in was good - another 1lb gone and people are noticing! Haircut really helped give me a boost - feel so much younger looking!

Roll on Christmas - I will be a yummy mummy! grin

fedupofnamechanging Thu 13-Dec-12 07:57:15

Have been a couple of days without chocolate now. It's hard because it is my comfort food. Am proud of myself for doing it, though. Am eating reasonably well at the moment and not wasting all my calories on crunchies!

Have lost the lb that I put on, so back to 9.4. Am hopeful that I can lose a couple more before Christmas. Been trying to keep busy - painted my dd's bedroom bright pink yesterday, in an attempt to not think about food!

Will be so glad when this is done.

AsparagusFern Thu 13-Dec-12 08:04:33

Big congrats helga - that's wonderful!! What lovely news for Christmas!

AsparagusFern Thu 13-Dec-12 08:08:57

Well done everyone for keeping on keeping on!

Have now lost 7 lb - a few people starting to notice, though am still wearing my usual baggy jumpers etc that I wear to hide the muffin top, so someone said it's hard to tell under the woollens!

I haven't had a single mince pie yet this season - which is totally unprecedented for me. I don't know where this willpower has come from?!

Madmog Thu 13-Dec-12 11:19:57

Feeling rubbish here as I have the flu, but still sticking to the diet. I was going to do more walking and some toning exercises, but that's all gone out of the window at the moment.

Meant to be going on my work Xmas meal tomorrow, will have to see if I'm up to it. Going to an italian restaurant and I've ordered mushrooms cooked in oil & garlic, a salmon, smoked salmon & prawn salad (yes, I'm serious about the diet) and panacotta, and colleagues had insisted I had to have a couple of glasses of wine. Can't believe there's all that food waiting for me and I may not be up to it.

laptopdancer Thu 13-Dec-12 19:54:27

Finally got back to the 7lb lost this morning (gained 1lb after rthe weekend fiasco) and then went shopping with dh. He is a cafe guy so we always go to some kind of dodgy cafe that only sells breakfast type food (cooked I mean).
So, I had a look and noticed they did paninis...tuna panini and salad. Great I thought.
So panini arrives and its tuna and sweetcorn in mayo sad sad
But he had bought it for me so I ate it. And the salad had coleslaw. Sure I could have left it but it was bloody lovely.

So today I have had:

porridge (sachet so measured portion)
tuna and goddam may panini with coleslaw and salad
chicken skewer with a bit of BBq sauce andpeppers and salad (thursday night meal out with DS)
low fat yoghurt
light hot choc (40 cal)

which is a f* load for me and I will never lose anything if I keep eating like a piggy angry

laptopdancer Thu 13-Dec-12 19:57:13

Sorry about the typos...fat fingers ;)

Joycey29 Thu 13-Dec-12 21:36:17

Not fatfingers - just happy hands (ok so it's supposed to be feet!)
Sounds like you balanced well - could have had whole fry up - go girl I sense willpower!

laptopdancer Sat 15-Dec-12 09:54:36

So happy...another lb. Thats 8lb all up.

BUT I have a curry meal to go to tonight and am on hols next week...so worried I will undo all my hard work

ceeveebee Sat 15-Dec-12 10:29:57

Yet 2lb loss for me this week. I have religiously stuck to the 1200 cals this week, although not had any time to exercise other than walking with pram yesterday. So that's 5lb in 3 weeks. And more importantly I squeezed into my black stretchy Uniqlo skinny trousers which I haven't worn for 2 years as they are a size 10!!

One more week to go until I finish for Xmas and its going to be very hard not to put it all back on. Am going to inlaws for a week and they've bought us guest passes at their gym so might actually be able to burn off Xmas pudding while they mind the twins.

ceeveebee Sat 15-Dec-12 10:30:23

Yet was supposed to say yey!!

fedupofnamechanging Sat 15-Dec-12 11:07:58

Weighed in at 9.3, so a small loss for me. MIL came round yesterday with a mountain of chocolate for the dc, so it is a struggle to resist.

Christmas can't come fast enough for me. I'm not hungry (not excessively, anyway, but I am desperate for a piece of cake!)

Joycey29 Sat 15-Dec-12 17:46:04

Just baking with kids and for the hell of it weighed out 4lb in flour!
OMG - I was carrying that around all the time! Really helped me feel positive despite some dodgy days!blush
We need to stop worrying about Xmas dinners! I started the thread to lose some weight so I could enjoy Xmas without really putting on, don't get me wrong I don't want to put it all back on but at least I now have a buffer against Xmas - I can enjoy and if I put on a pound or two I won't be tipping the scales at more than when I started!
Enjoy the festive season - and be good when you can but remember every lb is a buffer against just getting bigger and bigger and bigger grin

AsparagusFern Sat 15-Dec-12 18:18:23

Joycey very true!

Have been doing really well (and just bought a size 10 pair of jeans - see frustrated apple thread if any interested apples), for first time since the mid 90s, surely. (Though admittedly you have to go down a size with the brand I bought!)

But last night was another Xmas party - huge Italian meal, three glasses white wine, then today a fry up and a mince pie. Eek!

But have been so good all season and no point being a martyr the whole time. Fully intend on keeping 1200 cals as my default for non party days.

I think I'd just got into a frame of mind where eating loads was my default option, and that's not healthy. But after the past few weeks, feel very positive about new eating habits and feeling good about 2013 smile

plaingirly Sat 15-Dec-12 18:22:14

Only lost 0.6 this week. Plus have only lost 1 inch of my waist and bust in 4 weeks.

Think I am going to have to start some sort of weight lifting programme with my dumbbells!

TheProvincialLady Sat 15-Dec-12 18:29:32

I have been lurking since last Wednesday when I decided to join you. Signed up for MFP and have been sticking to the 1200 calories a day. No speoial exercise but I do walk quite a lot. Bugger me if I haven't lost 6lbs in 10 daysshock So am now 7st 10lbs. My goal now is just to keep at this weight until Christmas. I don't particularly want to lose any more but I don't want to put any back on either, so I was thinking of eatng 1500 calories instead. Does that sound the right sort of amount? In case anyone worries about the seemingly low-ish weight - I am only 5'2" and a healthy weight for me is anything from 7st 4lbs. I haven't ever really needed to diet before but the chocolate consumption has been creeping up a lot lately. Thanks for the motivation!

Don't worry plain. My weight loss has definitely slowed down too (and this was before the Italian and the fry up). It's just the way of it..... We just need to keep ploughing on.

Exercise is so hard in this weather too. I'm so cold when I get up in the morning I think it's an achievement to make it to the shower!

ceeveebee Sat 15-Dec-12 20:52:21

provincial well done! I think if you edit your profile on mfp to state your new weight and your goal of maintaining, it will give you a new target for calories.

TheProvincialLady Sun 16-Dec-12 08:18:09

Oh that is really helpful thanks, ceeveebee. I'll do it now.

Movingforward123 Sun 16-Dec-12 09:56:59

Hi everyone, well my dd has been sick for 3 days and I'm stuck at home with no car! So been feeling quite crap about it all. In the past two days I have eaten a lint bunny each day which were meant to be Xmas presents for dd! Each one was 500 calories sadsad

So I havnt lost any weight, actually I've put on a tiny bit as I was 9.13.2 I'm now 9.13.6 and I should be 9.12 tomorrow if I carried on loosing 2lbs per week.

It's just so hard to be home alone with dd for the whole day and we can't even leave our house. She's still unwell today, I hope I can stick to 1200 today!

Even if I would do a exercise DVD that would help but I just can't be arsed so lazy over here! Serious motivation needed!!

Movingforward123 Sun 16-Dec-12 10:52:18

Bug good news is, I have lost 2 inches off my waist and 2 inches off my hips and 1 inch from underneath my breasts! So I'm really happy with that smilesmile

Hopefully that will keep me motivated for a while!!

Joycey29 Mon 17-Dec-12 07:26:14

Go Moving that's made me want to measure!
Just been using my clothes as a guide but yesterday my dad commented on how trim I was looking - yay! grin
We are doing well girlies!

AsparagusFern Mon 17-Dec-12 09:25:19

Morning all and good luck in our last week before Xmas!

Congrats joycey and moving on the lost inches.

If I have just one night out / Xmas party day, then it seems to put me right back to where I was the week before and takes me almost a week to get back to where I was. Am coming to the conclusion that every bite of a mince pie really shows on us shorties.....so unfair! envy

However - onwards and upwards. We're all still here and trying - which counts for a lot, I reckon! smile

Madmog Mon 17-Dec-12 15:37:04

I've stuck really well to not eating much this week and have also avoided the three Xmas meals I had planned, as I had something similar to flu which then developed into a chest infection. My weigh in is tomorrow, surely I've lost another pound or two! Have to say my tummy feels a bit flabby though, I think that's down to the fact I've done no exercise.

fedupofnamechanging Tue 18-Dec-12 08:00:12

I messed up spectacularly yesterday and had 3 freddos, a penguin, 2 pieces of toast with peanut butter and a large glass of Glayva on top of my normal calories! Am very cross with myself, but back on the wagon now! I think I used up all my allowed calories too early in the day yesterday and got the mega munchies in the evening.

Am at 9.2 and a half this morning.

AsparagusFern Tue 18-Dec-12 09:42:52

Madmog Hope you're feeling a bit better.

karma That's so funny - I was in Tesco just yesterday eyeing up the penguins! They were by the till and I just thought, hmm, I haven't had one of those in aaages!

Weigh in today has me at 9.1 stone - the lowest I've been since I started this (was 9.6/7).

However, I still don't look ALL that different to be honest, though waist band is definitely looser. Maybe someone of my height (5'3") really does need to go below 9 stone to look slim...?!

fedupofnamechanging Tue 18-Dec-12 12:03:01

Asparagus, am 5'2" and have been using mfp to record measurements of my waist and hips. Mine are not that different to how they were when I was half a stone heavier. This is making me think that I am now losing from places where I wouldn't necessarily want to lose weight, like my face and boobs.

The last time I did a major weight loss, I got below 9 stone and although my waist, tummy, bum and legs looked great, my face looked very thin and my boobs virtually disappeared. I guess it might come to a choice of either getting to a 'perfect' weight or setting for something which makes us look better generally, even if it is not as slim as we would have ideally liked.

I think I would be happy with 9 stone ish, if only I could stay off the chocolate and shift these last few pounds. Never thought it would be this hatd at the tail end of my diet.

plaingirly Tue 18-Dec-12 18:11:14

I have lost 8 pounds and an inch off my waist - just hoping not to put it all back on again!

I am sure I can feel muscles growing but I may just be imagining it as I haven't been exercising very long at all!

AsparagusFern Tue 18-Dec-12 20:59:53

Congrats Plain! That's brill. I think muscle does respond quite quickly to exercise, so you never know!

Karma Yes, I feel your pain. I am also reluctant to lose too much weight and boob-age! And yet - at the weight I am currently, I can still grab rolls of fat. (Sorry - tmi.)

I just went into town this eve in fact, tried on some clothes and I'm still definitely a 12, not a 10. I wonder what the happy medium is?

It'd be great if someone could sound a klaxon when you start to lose too much / risk boob loss. Then you would know that if you're still not as slim as you'd like at that point, you'd just have to put up and shut up if you wanted to save the boobs! smile

ceeveebee Tue 18-Dec-12 21:15:35

I find that when dieting, all the weight comes off my top half - I can feel all my ribs and my waist is pretty well defined now - but I think I can only slim down on the thighs/hips by doing lots of cardio. Running is the best way to lose inches IMO but I really can't find the time to go more than once a week at the moment so stuck with doing DVDs which don't have same effect on me!

musttidyupBeforeSantaComes Tue 18-Dec-12 21:41:03

I hear you Karma. I really want to lose weight from my still large middle but my legs/face get thinner and not my belly. Getting to the point where I think I'd rather keep my boobs and a little padding and put up with a non existent thick waist.
Great to hear your progress plaingirly you must be delighted- it's a great motivator to see results. I loved it the first time I felt my hipbones. grin
Have lost 2 pounds since thread started and am delighted to have bought my first ever dress in a size 10 today. I think maybe I'm done.

fedupofnamechanging Wed 19-Dec-12 06:45:13

In the words of the great Hugh Grant - fuckity fuck! Am back up to 9.3!

That's it now - NO MORE JUNK FOOD! I have less than a week to shift some of this now.

Madmog Wed 19-Dec-12 09:32:10

Thanks for your good wishes ASPARAGUS. Just feeling very tired now. I haven't been eating much with being unwell, but at the same time haven't been exercising. doing much housework, going to work - all the things that burn the calories! Anyway, just done my weigh in and I lost half pound this week, so that 5.5lbs in total. Fell off the rails yesterday. Had bought some Belguim chocs for a secret santa which got cancelled. They were calling yesterday, so I had 3 lovely yummy choccies, just worried as the rest of the box is sat at my side.

ASPARAGUS and PLAIN congratulations on your loss. The losses are beginning to sound good.

plaingirly Wed 19-Dec-12 19:33:10

Soooooo full!! Just need to lie down for a while! Almost a day of calories in one meal ..... not the best idea ever.

AsparagusFern Thu 20-Dec-12 09:42:14

To echo karma ... Fuckety fuck!

Xmas lunch followed by Xmas party last night. Conservative estimate?

Almost 4,000 calories? I must've eaten my own body weight in stilton, camembert, sausage rolls and pizza slices - and that's just the savouries!

The problem with dieting is that when you do think, oh, I'm going to let my hair down stuff my face just tonight, it's so easy to go slightly mad at the buffet table. Or at least it is for me.

Oh, moderation, where art thou? Wails

Joycey29 Thu 20-Dec-12 11:14:03

After a boozy , yummy food weekend have been better the last two days!
Christmas Shopping and a run in the rain mean I ve lost another 1.5lb.
Real incentive now to not go mad before Monday!
Total loss 5.5lb gringringringrin

AsparagusFern Thu 20-Dec-12 11:16:18

Well done Joycey. Especially the run in the rain!

I'm hauling myself back on the wagon.

plaingirly Sun 23-Dec-12 19:26:56

11 pounds gone!!

Are we all still motivated?

AsparagusFern Sun 23-Dec-12 19:48:08

Hi plain

Still motivated, but weighed myself on the Boots scales today which wasn't a happy event!

They seemed to think I'm a whole seven pounds more than my scales at home do! Surely I couldn't have put on seven pounds from my two day splurge? And my jeans and tshirt can't weigh seven pounds can they?

A bit discouraging!

AsparagusFern Sun 23-Dec-12 19:49:50

PS. Big congrats on the 11 pounds tho plain! That's fab!

Is it too late to join in? I certainly could do with dropping a bit by tomorrow.grin

ceeveebee Sun 23-Dec-12 20:07:26

Annie can I recommend catching norovirus if you want to lose 7lb in 2 days!

Final weigh in for me today. Have gone down to 9st 4 which is 7lb exactly in 4 weeks - yey! Just 4lb to go which I expect will take a good few weeks/months with xmas and my birthday coming up

Erk, no thanks! <runs away>

plaingirly Sun 23-Dec-12 21:01:05

Asparagus - just stick to one set of scales! Brave though to go on the Boots scales - I have nervously circled the shop eyeing the scales but have never been on them! :P

Joycey29 Mon 24-Dec-12 06:56:54

Asparagus I used to work on shoes - 1lb and jeans are about 2lb. If that helps......

Weigh in in ten minutes when the kids wake...... Nervous due to a few lbs creeping on over the weekend!

Cheese straws are my downfall!

Atleast, I should be less than four weeks ago....... Watch this space!sad

Movingforward123 Wed 26-Dec-12 11:25:46

Hey everyone, I hope you all enjoyed Xmas! Well I had lost my whole 7lbs within a couple of weeks then stalls and stayed still. I'm going to try to get back into 1200 cals per day from tomorrow but if not will do it regionally after dd is back at school smile

Still have a stone to go! Not sure if I have put on weight from the last week of eating but will give myself a few days before I weigh again! grin

fedupofnamechanging Wed 26-Dec-12 16:51:14

I am too scared to get on the scales. Have had a lovely Christmas, and the house is still full of cake, but am thinking that I really must start back on the diet.

Hope you all had a good Christmas

Eliza22 Wed 26-Dec-12 18:33:30

Oh dear. That is all.

plaingirly Thu 27-Dec-12 09:38:32

Back on track!!

Movingforward123 Thu 27-Dec-12 12:21:46

I stared this thread at 10.6 stone, went down to 9.13.2 an one or two days was 9.12 just weighed myself and I'm now 10.1 so not too bad considering how much I've eaten including all the chocolate!

Well I'm going to start logging again today smile

Eliza22 Thu 27-Dec-12 13:44:40

Good luck with the logging! grin

I WAS going to fell a few trees but have done my 30 mins "jogging" instead!

plaingirly Thu 27-Dec-12 14:38:16

I won't know how much damage Christmas has done until I weigh in on Saturday! Nervous!!

Joycey29 Thu 27-Dec-12 14:43:08

Lost 6.5lb before Christmas - not getting on scales til Monday - really don t want to know!
Still an alcohol free January may help!

plaingirly Sat 29-Dec-12 07:34:43

I weigh in this evening and I am pretty sure I have gained maybe 2 or 3 pounds. Not going to obsess though! Well I am going to try not to!

MariahScarey Sat 29-Dec-12 08:44:51

Did you all lose? If so well done !

plaingirly Sat 29-Dec-12 11:28:59

Do you think we need a new thread? One without Christmas in the title!!

Unless everyone reached their goal?

Madmog Sat 29-Dec-12 11:40:31

I lost 5.5lbs, haven't dared jump on scales since Christmas but my jeans still seem loose. We decided to go swimming yesterday, the benefit of which was cancelled by getting fish&chips on the way home! I agree, one of us will have to start a new thread in the next day or so.

Karbea Sat 29-Dec-12 11:42:27

I'd love to get involved if you're doing something for new year and beyond!

plaingirly Sat 29-Dec-12 12:15:50

We could be fit for February or extraordinary by Easter or slim by Summer!

MariahScarey Sat 29-Dec-12 12:41:28

IMO February the best time to diet. January still too hard. February is dull. Nothing to eat that's nice. Dull clothes in shops

Movingforward123 Sat 29-Dec-12 23:37:25

Well my logging has been non existent, we had family down and today had nandos, lots of sweets then the evil Chinese!

Monday strictly 1200 cals!

What exercise do you all think will enhance weightlossthe most? I can't run but once tried couch to 5k and quit after week 4! confused mayb I should give that another go, as it didn't seem as bad as other exercises for my back.

I have no car at the moment so from when dd is back at school, I will be walking at least 40mins per day which I never do! So I'm sure that must help?

Movingforward123 Sat 29-Dec-12 23:38:16

But yes I will be stoking on this thread for at least 1 more months so I we make another please leave the link here grin
