So, if you are large of foot, say 7 or above...Do you have large hands too?

Following on from the height / weight thread, and then the height / shoe size thread.

I have size 7 feet, and big hands.

It's something I'm quite conscious about, so never wear 3/4 length sleeves.

If you have man-hands, do you try to disguise them with chunky jewellery?

Do you wear nail varnish?

5'4, size 7 feet, quite big hands (broad, not long!) and don't wear rings other than wedding ring or nail varnish. However have nice string wrists and like bangles/ cuffs.

ilikefestivitea Sat 24-Nov-12 09:45:19

Yep - size 7 feet, and man hands here too. Can't get bangles over my fingers and have to buy mens gloves if i want leather. I also.have broad shoulders and rather large knees, so.think I.have a large skeleton, rather than just large hands and feet.

ilikefestivitea Sat 24-Nov-12 09:46:14

And I do wear nail.polish, but only on short.finger nails.

dexter73 Sat 24-Nov-12 09:46:51

I have size 8 feet and I have really tiny hands. When I got my engagement ring replaced recently the jeweller wouldn't stop going on about how small my fingers are! Tiny wrists too.

oreocrumbs Sat 24-Nov-12 09:46:56

Size 7 and average to small hands! Well at least one bit of me had to be grin.

Have very slim fingers too. Again that doesn't reflect the rest of me!

yani Sat 24-Nov-12 09:47:32

Ok, so you draw attention to wrists, and therefore away from hands.

I sometimes feel I should be wearing Henry VIII style huge rings, but I guess that just draws the eye to fingers, rather than distracting.

I have size 7 feet and big hands. Never thought to try to disguise them though, they aren't man-hands, just my hands!

Don't think anyone else notices my hands actually. No one believes me until I put them up against their hands to compare. I have the same size as DP.

Rings from shops never fit me. All too small and stop at my knuckles.

pictish Sat 24-Nov-12 09:52:16

I have size 7 feet...but rather small hands. So no.

maillotjaune Sat 24-Nov-12 09:58:36

Size 8 feet and although my hands are quite big they are in proportion (5'10"). They are longer and thinner than DH's who is same height.

I have fairly small (vs height/shoe size) with thin fingers and wrists, but they're probably a shade bigger than whatever is average. I can wear ladies gloves/jewellery and Im a size N in my wedding ring.

yani Sat 24-Nov-12 10:05:01

I think I'm surrounded by delicately boned people. Think Kylie hanging out with Miranda blush

I wear bangles / bracelets, and dark nail polish on short nails. Lighter polish when they are longer.

YouHaveBeenOutbid Sat 24-Nov-12 11:47:49

I'm a 6.5-7 and have very long fingers so I'm usually a large in gloves. I have very long toes come to think of it... I reckon I'd be a size 4 if it wasn't for my big toe! Weirdly I also have a very small head. Hats are always too big. I'm making myself sound gorgeous aren't I grin ?!

goralka Sat 24-Nov-12 11:52:45

size 7 feet and biggish hands i suppose, I have never thought about it, so what if your hands are big - you really think people are staring at them thinking ''ooh hasn't she got big hands"? Honestly?

EndoplasmicReticulum Sat 24-Nov-12 11:56:18

Yes. I have size 8/9 feet. (42, proper shops it's an 8, fashion shops a 9, still no idea why).

I also have big hands, and arms that are too long for most clothes.

However, I am in proportion, I am 5ft 10.

ScienceOfSellingYouselfShort Sat 24-Nov-12 11:58:08

Not so much man hands but my fingers are ridiculously long! Friends used to say I could play the piano 2ft away. My feet are the same, size 7 long and skinny. I don't wear rings but if I were to, they would be chunky.

NotAnotherPackedLunch Sat 24-Nov-12 11:58:33

Size 8-9 feet.

MAssive hands dangling on the end of tiny wrists and short arms so they are shown off to maximum effect. At least my coat sleeves are too long and keep my hands warm!

ScienceOfSellingYouselfShort Sat 24-Nov-12 12:00:34

Endoplasmic "arms that are too long for most clothes"

Yes, I always have problems with coats!

snapespeare Sat 24-Nov-12 12:02:58

I'm 5ft 9-10, size 8 feet and giant hands. I always think I look like an unconvincing transvestite and note all the 6ft 4 men with tiny girlfriends, finding this somewhat unfair. smile

NotAnotherPackedLunch Sat 24-Nov-12 12:03:33

Forgot to add that I don't have any concerns about people staring at my weird hand and feet combo as they are all dazzled by my supreme beauty - Sam Brick has nothing on me!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans Sat 24-Nov-12 12:15:08

5' 7'', size 7 feet and yes, big hands. I'm not overly conscious of them as I think what they do is more important than how they look(I'm quite proud of my drawing/painting skills, for eg).

But I don't wear nail varnish, partly because I think that wil draw attention to them - and I can't get bangles over my knuckles so they're out.

For rings I just wear my wedding and eternity - but I keep meaning to add in a couple of extra pretty ones. Loose bracelets I like, and always go for fairly substantial but pretty rather than chunky as that suits me.

As I get older I'm more of a mind to think sod anyone else's opinion; I do sometimes notice other people's delicate wrists and hands and feel a envy twinge, though.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans Sat 24-Nov-12 12:16:22

Meant to say, in my mind they probably envy my lovely hourglass figure!

lubeybooby Sat 24-Nov-12 12:18:32

I'm only 5ft 4 but with size 8 feet and my hands are large but not really noticeably. I have broad shoulders and bigger wrists and ankles than most too. Just a really large build but somehow didn't make the height to go with it

PragmaticWench Sat 24-Nov-12 12:18:42

Size 9 feet (Euro 43) and in gloves I need a size 8 or 8.5, which is super rare in ladies styles. I'm 5'9'' so not all that tall! My feet bother me more than my hands, as my fingers are long and slim, but my feet look like flippers if I wear tights or skinny jeans with flats. Finding shoes is a bugger.

As for jewellery and nail varnish, I wear both without thought. Also find that three quarter length sleeves make my hands look smaller than something that ends at the wrist - anything ending at the wrist makes your hands look huge as the wrist is so small in comparison.

PuppyMonkey Sat 24-Nov-12 12:20:03

Size 7 is average shoe size in UK.

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob Sat 24-Nov-12 12:22:21

I have size 7 feet and very long hands but not wide iyswim, I have very thin fingers.

MrsMeow Sat 24-Nov-12 12:54:24

I have size 7 feet and tiny hands. I'm a freak!

debka Sat 24-Nov-12 12:59:25

What's wrong with having big hands anyway?

Embrace your big-handed loveliness, I say.

Ilovecrossfit Sat 24-Nov-12 13:08:42

5ft10 size 7 feet and quite small hands, and loony skinny arms..the rest not so skinny...

As someone already said I do feel like a transvestite too sometimes x

Size 7/8 shoes and large sized marigolds. I've been told I have piano players fingers which I keep in a box under the stairs.

sausagesandwich34 Sat 24-Nov-12 13:13:29

I'm 6ft with size 10 feet and very square hands, not massive but not very ladylike

I don't where nail varnish as I did once and got a bloke coming up to me in a pub asking if I was a tranny hmm

I will wear false nails with a natural look for special occasions, but I don't like drawing attention to my hands or feet

I have discovered that if I wear heels it makes my feet look smaller -odd

GetorfsaMotherfuckingMorrisMan Sat 24-Nov-12 13:26:31

Size 8 or 9 feet, and big hands.

I don't care - I don't think I look particularly manly. I would look like a twat with ladylike hands, especially on the end of these orangutan arms.

auldspinster Sat 24-Nov-12 19:00:29

5ft 8, size 8 feet, small square hands, short stumpy fingers, slimish wrists and long arms. I do wear rings and nail varnish. I do like being surrounded by tall men, not very PC but it's nice to feel petite instead of the usual heifer.

PragmaticWench Sat 24-Nov-12 19:46:08

auldspinster has a point about tall men, they do make you feel more feminine if you're tall! I found my DH on and intentionally searched more for taller men. They also tend to have bigger hands and feet so you don't feel huge.

Dawndonna Sat 24-Nov-12 19:51:04

Size 9 feet and builders hands. I have bigger hands than almost every bloke I know. I'm only 5'4"!

WholeLottaRosie Sat 24-Nov-12 19:52:58

5ft 4, size 8 feet and big hands. I've never even thought about trying to disguise them, if anything it's the opposite; paint my nails and wear big rings etc.

The only time someone has commented was my hairdresser a few months ago saying "OMG What has happened to your hands, they're massive!"
She genuinely thought I'd injured them somehow to make them so big grin

kaumana Sat 24-Nov-12 19:55:48

Just short of 5'7 size 6 feet and tiny hands, sis taller with size 7 feet and tiny hands.

WholeLottaRosie Sat 24-Nov-12 19:57:03

Have you ever done that thing where you hold your hand flat against your foot? The bit where you would tie your laces if you were wearing trainers, if you put your wrist there so your hand lays flat the end of your fingers should match the end of your toes.

Dawndonna Sat 24-Nov-12 20:01:13

Nope, just tried that whole and hands are bigger. What's really worrying is that my toes have been shortened!

Fozzleyplum Sat 24-Nov-12 20:02:06

I have very wide size 8 feet with very long knobbly toes like Nik Naks. My hands are quite large and very long, but fortunately they are an elegant shape with long fingers. I also have "gangly" wrists - they are knobbly and the bottom part of my arm is quite skinny, so I look a bit weird in 3/4 length sleeves.

Although I'm on the slim side of normal (size 10), I suit chunky jewellery, probably because I'm quite tall and raw boned. I look very odd in skinny jeans with shoes rather than boots, as my feet look huge.

Have just read this before posting - realise I sound like a freak!

44SoStartingOver Sat 24-Nov-12 20:02:33

5'7" with 8-9 feet but wear a medium in gloves and a size n wedding ring. Bangles fit, but I always need a long chain for pendants.

I wear heels, platforms etc and tower over dh and nail polish. Whilst I am pretty big (shoulders etc) and muscular , I am quite hourglassy and wear my hair long.

I don't think I ever look trannyish as my look is quite natural.

PerryCombover Sat 24-Nov-12 20:06:04

I have size 8 ish feet but massive hands
Luckily it is mostly v long fingers but my ex h and I had the same ring size

PerryCombover Sat 24-Nov-12 20:22:01

Also I have never been able to get any bangles or bracelets over my giant fists ffs

WholeLottaRosie Sat 24-Nov-12 20:31:29

Evans sell bangles that are designed to go over large wrists, last year I bought a heap of thin metal ones just so I could jangle them about - haven't been able to do that since I was about twelve grin

DrinkFeckArseGirls Sat 24-Nov-12 20:31:45

yani Sat 24-Nov-12 21:45:45

Crikey...go away for a few hours, and lots of replies smile

Dh is tall, and like others I do feel feminine and less clunky when out with him.

Jewellery wise, I tend to wear several thinner bracelets or hinged bangles.

My big hands came in handy(!) when I used to be a waitress, carrying several plates of food in one hand. grin

I have size 7 feet and ridiculously small hands. I do have large wrists, though. My frame in general is large (size 14, 5'8", large chest - wrist measurement puts me as a 'large frame'), but my hands are positively child-like with fat fingers

MrsMorton Sun 25-Nov-12 14:51:58

I've got size 8 feet (they are lovely though, just big) my hands are huge, the same size as H but I'm 5'5" and he's 6'4". They call me Edwina shovel hands at work. My hands are huge but again, they are well formed, my wrists are tiny though. I often can't get shirts on without undoing the cuffs but my fingers are long and slim.

LittleFriendSusan Mon 26-Nov-12 12:41:23

5ft5, size 6.5-7 shoes here and massive hands. Broad rather than particularly long - my hands are much wider than DP's. I also have large knuckles with very defined rolls of skin. I always think my hands are a bit ape-like. Don't I sound delightful? grin

I avoid rings as feel they draw attention to my hands, and also I find if they fit past my knuckles, they are too loose around the base of my fingers. Jewellery-wise, I can't usually get bangles etc over my hands, but don't mind a chunky watch or cuff, or a bracelet with a clasp. I have yet to find nice leather gloves which are a comfortable fit.

I avoided nail varnish for years, as again thought it would draw unwanted attention to my man-hands, but had a nice French gel-type manicure this summer (shortish nails) and found my hands did actually look slightly more feminine. Also don't mind short dark-coloured nails now either. I have very dry hands too so have been really trying hard recently to get them in better shape.

Frame / weight -wise, I weigh a lot heavier than I look so think I am just big-boned. I also struggle to get hats to fit!

auldspinster Mon 26-Nov-12 13:04:09

I too have big problems getting hats to fit - my head circumference is 63cm - I'm like one of the tefal boffins (showing my age).

Yokel Mon 26-Nov-12 13:12:58

This thread is hilarious - and what a relief to discover I'm not the only ape-armed, shovel-handed, clown-footed Tefal scientist around here.

Size 42 feet (on a good day) - massive flapping hands like a goalie, which I actually really like - I think they make me look striking and capable. Would hate tiny little doll hands and feet like pony hooves. [defiant]

Yokel Mon 26-Nov-12 13:13:56

Oh, and I'm 5'7" so not exactly statuesque...

Jamdoughnutfiend Mon 26-Nov-12 14:07:11

I am just big all over - hands feet head - I am all in proportion, but you would never call me dainty! Can't buy shoes/hats/gloves/tights/socks from the high street, the list in endless. But, at the ripe old age of 35, am finally happy and confident in my own (big) skin. So i wear whatever i like and suits me and ignore the dainty little elfin people that ised to make me feel so self concious. Just wish shoe shopping was easier grin

PerryCombover Tue 27-Nov-12 09:52:33

ditto pumpkin head
no hat shopping for me ever

When I was young I was completely crucified by all of this. There is no diet to reduce your head, hands, feet joints etc. I was just really tall and happened to be friends with girls who were under average height and very petite.
I felt so so different.

I wish someone had told me how I'd end up looking

(like a foam handed, clown footed, pumpkin headed BEEYOUTY)

yani Tue 27-Nov-12 12:29:37

Sorry, I can't help but find myself chuckling at all the self-depreciation comments on here, you could easily be describing me. grin

In the nicest possible sense, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Hats I seem ok with, although, again I do have a larger head than most must be all the mush up there however finding gloves that fit is a pain.

BoerWarKids Tue 27-Nov-12 14:31:46

I'm a shade under 5'7. I'm size 7 shoe, sometimes an 8.

I do have big hands but I'm horribly overweight at the moment, so where I had long fingers and slim wrists when I was a 12-14, at a size 18 (not for much longer, I hope) my hands look really chunky and fat.

I wear big statement rings. Small dainty jewellry wouldn't suit me at all. I've never worn bracelets or a watch. I have a big head too sad I can never find hats that fit.

I've accepted that even when I'm slim and toned I'm always going to be 'big-boned' so I'll never be petite and doll-like.

tabulahrasa Tue 27-Nov-12 14:38:44

I've got size 7 feet and tiny hands, I've also got a little head and fit in children's hats - I suspect I might in fact be a hobbit...

PragmaticWench Tue 27-Nov-12 17:56:04

Boerwar mentioned dainty jewellery not working with big hands - this was the reason I gave DH for needing a larger engagement ring with lots of stones. grin

BoerWarKids Tue 27-Nov-12 21:40:05

Nice one Pragmatic wink

Size 6.5/7 feet with really small hands! They are chunky though, I dislike them. Wear chunky rings, small and dainty rings look bloody awful.

lookingfoxy Tue 27-Nov-12 22:05:28

Im 5ft 10 1/2 with 8/9 feet.
My actual hands aren't massive, its the long skinny fingers attached to them that look weird! Tiny wrists and slim fingers, I always have my nails done and wear quite dainty rings/bracelets otherwise they look rank!
I have finger toes that you could scale a wall with!
Am usually a size 8/10 with big boobs so hope that draws attention away from my long alien like digits!

teacher123 Wed 28-Nov-12 09:09:56

I have size 8 feet and proper big man hands. Find it very hard to find rings to fit me, and leather gloves are a no no. Shoe shopping is unremitting hell, I hate it. And consequently live for 6 months of the year in flip flops and 6 months of the year in UGG boots. Maternity leave has been brilliant, I haven't had the annual September nightmare of trying to find 'school shoes'!

yani Wed 28-Nov-12 10:24:31

teacher I can relate to that! Dreading going back to work, and having to
wear proper shoes again. smile

Foxy I can only dream of big boobs envy and a flat tummy

TheDudesMum Wed 28-Nov-12 10:34:43

oh there's a lot of us grin I'm 5'8" ish with size8 feet and proper builders hands (i do manual outdoors work) i have callouses and everything but i still like to paint my nails (when the kids give me a minute) i wear big rings or loads of bracelets but can never get bangles to fit. When i was toned and fit i really did look like a bad transvestite right down to my farmer tan grin classy.

teacher123 Wed 28-Nov-12 13:38:16

Well, when my DH bought my engagement ring, it didn't quite fit, was a couple of sizes too small. He bought it from a high street jewellers, so I called the branch to see if they had a larger one in stock. When I told him my ring size he laughed and said 'oh god no, we don't stock LADIES rings in that size, you'll have to ring head office and get one specially made'. I got off the phone and I cried and cried and cried. It was the morning after we got engaged and I have never forgotten that. I took it to a different branch and the lovely manager ordered me a replacement and told me how beautiful it looked.

I really really hate my hands.

Yarg Wed 28-Nov-12 17:07:05

YY to the shoe shopping nightmare. I've long since given up expecting to find any women's shoes to fit me (and if I wear heels I look like a third rate drag act) , so I wear men's shoes (brogues, plimsolls, desert boots etc) and style it out. Amazing how many men's shoes are actually pretty feminine looking - especially if you go for blues/browns/suede etc etc.

The biggest pain in the arse is specialist shoes for sport (walking/cycling) where the ones that fit me are all black and red with WILDMAN or HELLCAT or similar down the side...

5'8 size 7 feet, long arms and big hands lol!

gindrinker Wed 28-Nov-12 19:13:01

5'8" size 6 feet, long legs, arms and hands. Long bones I think smile
