To lose weight, look better, feel better, be fitter?

Anyone fancy joining me in a 5 week super drive to amazingness????

Right there Karbea.
I'm off chocolate until Christmas (since last Sunday) .I did a Lent chocolate free and felt really good (though I did go back to my old ways with the Easter Eggs) blush

I'm in the middle of having some dental work done (ouch)
Dyed my hair and eyebrows (they'll need doing before Christmas again)
Going to have my hair cut this week (but not 100% sure what to have done yet)

On the TO DO list:

Wax legs and armpits
Use one of those gradual built up tan/body lotions
Shift the muffin top

Looking for some nice jeans too (though I got some M&S denim 5 pocket jeggings that are nice but can only wear with long boots)

Karbea Sun 18-Nov-12 18:16:16

I felt really yuck after drinking last weekend, so I'm giving that up for now. I eat waaay too much chocolate and crisps (just had a twix sad ), my skin is rubbish and I'm sure it's down to the bad snacks, so I'll join you in the war against chocolate!

And my muffin top and chunky hips... Well it'll be nice if they've left before Santa arrives!

The trick is (IME) not to try to do too much at once.

I couldn't do "no sweets" that would be a step too far (DH bought me 2 bags of liquorice grin )

I don't drink alcohol so don't need to worry about that.

Next aim: hair, teeth will be sorted within the next couple of weeks, then I'll have a month in December (almost)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What about 2 litres water a day (good for skin, kidneys and the old advice about filling you up)
Do you do any sports ? Swim? Walk a dog?
Need ideas to keep the momentum going (and shift the DC tin of Celebrations that they were scoffing while Merlin was on) shock
Karbea Sun 18-Nov-12 18:47:02
Yeah I agree I was thinking of adding in one new habit a day, should be a goddess in 5 weeks, haha!!!
Maybe I'll start with the water tomorrow.
I run a bit (sporadically) so going to do a bit more, would love to know what the perfect mix of exercise would be, run, swim, yoga etc how many times a week... Beem googling to try and find Cheryl Coles exercise routine haha!!!!
way2serious Sun 18-Nov-12 19:15:14
I would like to join you.
I am not good at contributing regularly to threads but will try.
I like the one new thing each day approach
I am going to start with no chocolate from tomorrow and then on Tuesday start on increasing the amount of water I drink.
I am going to write a list of things to work my way through to ensure that I primped and pampered ready for Christmas.
Good luck everyone. I hope we will still be here in a week!!
I haven't been running for about 6 weeks, because I am lazy and make excuses - it's raining/it's dark etc - but I lost nearly half a stone in about five weeks earlier in the year from doing a short run three times a week and cutting out crap food. I actually found that I didn't want the crap food after a week or so anyway - but now I'm back to my old bad ways, so this thread is hopefully going to inspire me to sort myself out a bit again.
Going to try to drink more water (gulping some down as I type!) and will try to remember to actually USE the lovely exfoliating face wash I have, instead of just ignoring it. Oh and I bought a hair dye today - again, I now just need to actually use the damn thing.
Oh and I have some nail strengthening stuff. That works too - if I ever actually remember to use it. Will do that before bed.
Imflabulous Sun 18-Nov-12 19:33:42
My i join too? I lost nearly 2 stone this year and have put about a stone back on from being lazy and greedy, i also fell off the running bandwagon (i did c25k).
Will def increase the water, and loosly follow slimming world.
Booked in to get hair done on wednesday, and after my bath last night i was eyeing up the Dove summer glow thinking i should give it another whirl to cheer me up.
May re-start running or do shred and will also pick up some new make-up tomorrow and make more effort.
I think that is enough for this week!
fooolofbeans Sun 18-Nov-12 19:46:57
i'm in! used to be a MAJOR fitness/health food fanatic, buts its very much fallen by the way side of late, if i can reduce the sugar + fat, up the activity and lose 7lbs by christmas i will be one little happy bunny grin
novelsituation Sun 18-Nov-12 20:07:33
Me too. Currently go to gym 2-3 times but will try to up it to 4-5.
Have been eating far too much sugar lately, so will also try to cut out sweets, chocolate, muffins and mince pies.
iamamug Sun 18-Nov-12 20:20:48
Need to join! Beginning to feel a bit menopausal - weight creeping up, fab new job with lots of driving or working at home, no exercise and a husband with a cooking hobby.
I am thinking lots of water, cutting out crap and walking my cute new puppy to get my endorphins flowing.
I need to lose a couple of stone but 7 lb by Chimbo would be fab.
Karbea Sun 18-Nov-12 20:23:37
Yah cool! Lets keep each other motivated!
I've just gone and got myself a 500ml bottle of Water to drink, rather than a glass of red wine that dh is drinking.
MikeLitoris Sun 18-Nov-12 20:26:38
I am so joining this thread.
I am in desperate need of motivation. Im cutting down on junk and going to try and exercise (have the 30 day shred dvd)
I'm currently shopping for works Christmas do outfit. Hoping i can slim down my belly before then.
Meggles76 Sun 18-Nov-12 20:38:31
5 weeks today I will be driving off for xmas at Center Parcs. After a pretty torrid 18 months, I have lost quite a bit of weight. I have been running to feel fitter.
I now want to sort my diet out and eat more heathily and heartily.
I need to sort nails out.
I need a hair cut and colour before I go.
I need to organise my wardrobe.
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 18-Nov-12 20:42:05
I'm in!
9 month post 2nd baby and I'm seriously trying to get to pre baby weight before Christmas. 2kg left to go but the scales won't move!
I exercise 4 times a week, twice with a personal trainer, a Zumba session and a machine Pilates session. Currently sat here aching from all the exercise but it feels kind of good!
Apparently to lose 1lb you have to burn 3500cals! Or not eat it...
I have cut back on all sweet stuff during the week but allows self to be bad at weekends.
DaPrincessBride Sun 18-Nov-12 20:45:52
I'm in grin
I lost a load of weight after DD, plonked it back on again after a turbulent time, and was asked when my second was due a month or so back. I am not pregnant blush
Last Monday I started cutting the crap and eating light, less carby meals with natural yoghurt if needing snacks. Been to the gym a couple of times and done an exercise DVD at home once. 6lbs down already!!
lazydays2 Sun 18-Nov-12 20:53:27
Can I join in please, I was planning on having a big push in November, so pigged out in October then it would make a bigger difference, only problem is I haven't been motivated enough to do anything so just got fatter basically.
I need to up the beauty routine too, so far I'm manging to moisturise my face once a day!
But given the limited time now it would be good what works well for others. I plan to stop drinking mid week, and get to the gym 3 days initially, hope to improve on that after a week or two.
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 18-Nov-12 21:01:44
tabatatraining.org/ I also intend on doing this on my own at least once a week. I do this with the trainer and its great. Can be adapted to any time you have
Stillstarving Sun 18-Nov-12 22:21:38
I'd love to join you. I always start the week with good intentions then fall apart by Wednesday night but that has to be better than not starting at all! I love the idea of beginning low and adding to it going along - I might be able to do that! So - this week -
I will exercise 3 times
I will drink 1.5l water per day
I will not drink until Friday earliest
I'll cleanse and moisturise every day
I will only eat sitting down, not if standing up!
Plan to be reviewed again next week
Karbea Sun 18-Nov-12 22:28:11
I'm so happy I have so many buddies joining me.
I reckon adding to it slowly is definitely the way to go.
Definitely the water drinking for me tomorrow.
Anyway tonight I've drank 50ml (hope this doesn't mean I'll be up and down to the loo all night :-S), flossed and done the yucky mouthwash I'm supposed to do every night and don't, done my face scrub thing I'm supposed to do every other night and don't and just done my nail oil... But just realised I haven't taken off my eye make up! Right back to the bathroom then bed!
See you all tomorrow, excited for progress updates, and more new joiners???
I will join you - I fly to Shanghai for xmas (get me!) with the in laws in 5 weeks, the last time I saw them I weighed a bit less as was doing shred every day and had slimmed for a wedding - I have piled it back on after that. All their friends are skinnie minnies and even at 5"3 I feel like Miranda next to all the Chinese so I need to lose a few pounds...
I am 10st 6 currently, have muffin top and wobbly tummy that I need to work on. I have cut out carbs in the evening and most bread, only drink at weekends a whole weeks worth and can be really good when at work as take lunch and have no tempting stuff there - been following the food doctor everyday diet which helps, don't really want the carbs or chocolate etc - but I just can't see to shift the weight - I swim on a weds and at the weekend with DD(2) and that is helping but I need to make myself get up earlier to exercise three times a week - 6am shred is really no fun though. So my plan is:
Pilates Monday
Shred Tuesday morning
Swim Wednesday
Shred Thursday
Friday drinking
Sat or Sunday swim with DD or Shred
And basically drink loads of water, sort my nails out with a couple of manicures, use my teeth whitening kit I got on Groupon and keep using the acid I got for my face (for spots and acne) once a week, moisturise and hopefully lose 7lbs - which is 5 weeks is totally doable...
The thing is if you have too many things it gets too much and I find I just give up on everything. I read that something becomes a habit after 8 times of doing it.
Good luck everyone, sorry for the essay - finishing off a bottle of red to get off to a good start on Monday!!
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 08:51:04
Morning everyone!
I know diets a big issue for some of us, especially me! I either miss is completely or end up having crisps and chocolate! This morning I've had mini shreddies, milk and some lemon and hot water. What did you girls have? Come on fess up smile
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 19-Nov-12 10:17:23
Nothing sad
I'd rather go without,my eating is terrible. I have issues. I am so very fussy so as I'm cutting down on all the bad stuff I had to give up my chocolate biscuits for breakfast blush however I'm having a healthy lunch and will snack on fruit. Personal training tonight.
Just been and tried on some jeans, dropped 2 inches in waist size over last few weeks. I'm holding off until the week before we return to uk for Christmas so hopefully i can drop one more size!
I'm a trained beauty therapist so will be happy to advise anyone on this thread if they want ideas to get Christmas perfect!
Imflabulous Mon 19-Nov-12 11:37:40
Morning all, I did do a big reply and it went kaput!
Had 2 boiled eggs for breakfast on s dub roll, making minestrone soup for lunch and roast chicken salad for dinner ( will make to take to work) snacks will be fruit.
New makeup purchased, hair dye in prep for sil doing hair on wed purchased also.
About to go shred, so that's a good start for me today I think.
snowgal Mon 19-Nov-12 11:56:46
Ooo can I join in? I'm trying to lose 7kg or so by Christmas, I've lost 2.2kg in the last week but think I might need the encouragement of a group. I have a ridiculous amount of weight to lose in total, approx 19-20kg but would like to make a significant difference pre-Christmas.
I'm doing the following:
Dropping all junk food/chocolate/sweet treats
Drinking at least 3pts of water a day
Doing some significant exercise each day, running, swimming,gym class etc
Doing the Tracy Anderson mat workout/shred as often as possible - ideally 4-5 times a week
Walking the dog a least two times a day
Good luck everyone!
Breakfast wise I'm having either a poached on a slice a of unbuttered wholemeal toast or readybrek with mashed banana, I need fuel to get on with my day!
HellothisisJoanie Mon 19-Nov-12 11:59:56
oh easily half a stone in that time.
HEre are my tips.
*NO BOOZE at all in the week. if you cant do this then a very weak V or G and T in the evening with lots of mixer.
*NO CARBS all week at least. this will make you eat loads more veg
*go to bed early.
*clean your teeth when you finish eating.
ALWAYS THINK - am i really hungry? or just a pig?
Rockchick1984 Mon 19-Nov-12 12:00:48
Can I join in too please? Would love to lose half a stone at least before Christmas! I probably need to lose a stone overall, but at least if I can lose a bit now then I can pig out at Christmas and not have even more to lose afterwards grin
I don't know how I don't gain more weight in all honesty, I'm good during the day, usually have a healthy tea then it all falls apart, me and DH will share a massive bar of dairy milk as supper, or I'll make cupcakes and we will eat four one with a brew while watching telly. Oh, and my mum usually takes us out once a week for a meal which obviously means huge portions and three courses blush
I did slimming world for a while so may try to stick to that again, I also need to start a better beauty regime.
Spoilt congrats on the weight loss!
HellothisisJoanie Mon 19-Nov-12 12:01:01
and tbh - dont over drink water.
there is no evidence it does anything apart from making you piss. Your body is a clever thin; it tells you when you are thirsty
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 19-Nov-12 12:06:01
Thanks rockchick
I want to get below 9 stone. I'm sitting at 62 kg right now (time of month not helping) I want to be 60kg for Christmas this was pre baby (ies) weight but I feel better at 57-58kg.
So despondent at the time it's taking. Going from no exercise to 4 plus per week, I really though I'd be waif like by now grin
noddyholder Mon 19-Nov-12 12:43:19
I find if I eat what I love for lunch and just have a lightish tea (toast fruit soup etc about 5ish) and eat nothing after 7 I really lose weight. And tone up with walking and sit ups.
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 16:35:02
I've done rubbish with the drinking water thing, but I haven't eaten chocolate yet! So I'm going to start not eating chocolate today and start the water thing tmr.
Lunch today wasn't very healthy, granary bread toasty with Brie and wait for it... Strawberry jam, but I haven't picked this afternoon, yet...
Dinner tonight is chicken and chorizo paella, going to use brown basmati as that'll be healthier than white smile
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 16:40:38
I'd like to lose 4kg by Christmas, but I've never really successfully lost weight since I've been with my DH...
I'm going to start exercising from Wednesday, what's best? Mix of running and shred?
iamamug Mon 19-Nov-12 16:57:25
Not a good day today! DH did usual huge Sunday lunch yesterday including steak and kidney pudding and steamed treacle pudding for dessert. I am doomed aren't I?
Felt hungover today as drank too much so craved carbs. Porridge is my normal breakfast so had that and then had a french baguette with left over chicken and roasted veg for lunch - YUM!
Will have light supper of left over chicken and veg and start again in earnest tomorrow.
I haven't drunk enough water today and didn't walk the pup.
Fail! blush
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 19-Nov-12 16:59:55
Cardio will burn the cals but you need toning exercise if you want to change your body shape. If you download the app that I linked to up the page it's a good place to start. I do 30 seconds cardio and then 10 seconds rest. Very easy to do at home.
Try high knee run
Jumping jacks
Skipping
Stepping up and down the stairs
Lunges
Squats
Etc
Do as much as you can for the 30 seconds and then rest. Even a set of 10 will get the heart going'
Chubfuddler Mon 19-Nov-12 17:03:00
I'm joining you. I lost two stone this year and I've kept it off but I still need to lose another two to reach a good weight for my height. I'm not aiming to lose a stone by Christmas but ten pounds would be nice. I'm not drinking during the week this week, I'll commit to that. At the weekend to celebrate success I will get a wax and a pedicure, so that'll be another thing achieved.
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 17:14:29
I'm eating dried fruit and nuts, this is my absolute worst time of the day, I feel so hungry i'll eat anything... any tips to get me to 7 when i can start cooking?
thanks spoiltexpatbrat will look at that app smile
Meggles76 Mon 19-Nov-12 17:24:14
Right. I struggle with eating and eating well. No breakfast today, just hot water and lemon. I had a couple of rice cakes upon arrival at my desk. Fish sushi for lunch. Its chicken pie and veg for dinner. Need to incorporate more fruit and move away from the chocolate.
I find it hard to motivate myself to run this time of year. Trying to use shred DVDS to make up for it.
Am trying to work out a nice capsule wardrobe of things to take away with me for Xmas that will make me feel good about myself. Big. Huge. Self esteem issues here.
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 19-Nov-12 20:31:53
Meggles.
Self esteem issues here too sad
Thought I had late onset of pnd because I'm feeling so low and not like the 'old' me.
I have doctors later in the week.
However I got a little bit of time to myself in he last few days so haves fed to put in some tan and paint my nails. Feel a little better. I guess this makes me a shallow person sad
I miss me, the confident one. The well groomed one. The one who didn't dress like a mother of two.
Silly little things like carrying a nice handbag as opposed to the baby bag, wearing heels instead of flat, comfortable shoes. All this makes a difference and makes me a little happier (again, how shallow do I sound? blush so I'm going to do something for 'me' everyday.
As for food, it's my sticking point. I'm fussy. I'd rather go without breakfast and lunch and then eat a bag of haribo!
Now I'm trying to always have some fruit with me so I don't pick up a bag of sweets. Fruit for breakfast so I don't get the urge to binge later when I'm hungry.
I'm rambling on blush
Just finished my pt session, off for a shower!
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 19-Nov-12 20:33:50
Another good app is workout trainer by skimble smile
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 20:40:00
spiltexpat I know you probably know this, but sugar is really bad for women's hormones.. Sends them all over the place... I wonder if that might have contributed to you feeling low?
I'm only saying this as it's just occurred to me why I might feel really down sometimes :/
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 19-Nov-12 20:42:58
Never thought about the link with suger shock
My eating has always been bad, I eat to survive, I don't enjoy it. Although I love cooking for others hmm
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 20:49:59
Maybe cut it out for a couple if days as an experiment and see how you feel :S
I've eaten 70g of dried fruits and nuts (I know they'll be fructose in these) but hopefully less sugar than a snickers or 3!
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 19-Nov-12 20:56:56
I tried totally cutting it out when we started training.
I turned into a prize bitch!
In all honesty I was a nightmare for a few days then I felt better.
Only try to eat it at weekends, but it's so bloody hard to be good during the week. It's all down to my crap eatin habits sad I just requireore effort to actually make some lunch for me and not just the kids.
Well there is always tomorrow smile
Thanks for your suggestions
Stillstarving Mon 19-Nov-12 21:23:40
Doing ok today. Drank my water though I didn't remember until about 4 o'clock so probably up all night. Let me see how little I normally drink though! Little wonder I'm like a prune... Stayed under calories and didn't eat anything standing up. No alcohol and just need to make sure I wash my face. Exercise tomorrow.
Meggles I wish I could help with the wardrobe but I'm hopeless. Are you buying or trying to work with what you have?
freerangeeggs Mon 19-Nov-12 21:35:36
Interesting about the sugar! I have shit skin so I might give this a try...
I'm not looking to lose much - just about three to five lbs before Xmas. I want to lose more but it's been coming off slowly but surely and I can't be arsed with a big diet. I'm sick of dieting all the time! I've lost almost a stone already by being sensible and walking lots.
I'm also going to:
Get teeth checked/filling replaced
Get smear test (yay.)
Start moisturising my legs properly
Go to the hairdresser
Buy stuff
Sleep more! Early nights
Leather Mon 19-Nov-12 21:40:49
I'll join you all if you'll have me?
I've lost 2 stone since end August but still want to shift another half stone before Xmas.
I've followed a low fat, higher protein, low carb diet combined with 3 x week weight based exercise sessions (just finished these as we go on holiday soon)
I would def say its possible to lose half a stone before Xmas, but not easy!
A typical day of the type of diet I've been doing would be...
Breakfast: berries and fat free yoghurt
Lunch: tuna salad (cider vinegar as dressing, lettuce/cucumber/celery-but no tomatoes/peppers)
Dinner: steak or salmon fillet with roasted courgettes, mushrooms, broccoli.
No alcohol, sugar, oils, butter, rice, pasta, potatoes, root veg.
Yes, it is very grim, but it works!
And I did actually cheat most weekends with a little glass of wine or bowl of crisps but as long as you get back in the saddle come Monday morning it's all good.
Of course now I need to concentrate on not undoing all the good work on holiday in order to lose the next few pounds by Xmas!
Looking forward to sharing tips/motivation with you all
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 21:53:57
I need to book a smear too! I've had the letter sitting in my study for weeks sad
Of course you can join, but what is wrong with peppers and tomatoes? I added both of them to my paella tonight :O
I had a good day - had muesli yogurt and fruit for breakfast, always have some nuts with it as food doctor suggests protein with all meals - then peppers carrots and hummus for break, lentil and bacon soup for lunch, dinner was sardines and an omelette with spinach and tomatoes.
I have had a hot chocolate and a mug of hot milk, but I have had a bad back all day and have felt rubbish, so actually even though I really craved chocolate I was good and didn't have any..
Not sure how I will get on with the Shred tomorrow morning though - at least if I can get moving a bit my back is better, but it's just such a struggle as I get back spasms and sometimes into my arms and legs too, gets so I really don't fancy doing anything.
Will update!
Karbea Mon 19-Nov-12 22:28:06
missmakes be careful!!!
Monday night round up from me!
Haven't done any exercise yet, so need to do something about that!
Diet has been ok, although probably too many carbs (shreddies, two slices bread, brown basmati) but overall could've been worse!
Beauty haven't added anything new, but did body brush this AM and tonight I've flossed and done the yucky mouthwash, and will do nail treatment oil thingy.
Going to add in some exercise tmr methinks!
One new habit a day
*************
Monday - no chocolate
Sunday - no alcohol
Leather Mon 19-Nov-12 23:02:36
Karbea nothing wrong with peppers and tomatoes honest!
Sorry, just read my 1st post back and it sounds really preachy blush I didn't mean it to come across like that!
The no tomatoes/peppers thing was just the particular diet I was following, as I said it is pretty grim and drastic.
I was one unhappy bunny the first few weeks that's for sure grin
I'm liking your "one new habit a day" thing
winkle2 Mon 19-Nov-12 23:26:01
I'd love to join too if I can?
5 weeks till Xmas day tomorrow so will start in the morning.
Will report my weight once I've weighed in.
Imflabulous Tue 20-Nov-12 06:26:27
Morning all!
How is everyone doing? I managed all on my list yesterday apart from only had 1 pint of water but still had pleanty of fluid.
New thing to add today is full body exfoliate and first application of holiday sun. Will possibly re start week 1 if c25k after work......but no promises!
As diet has been bad for weeks i was pleasantly surprised to find out I only gained 2 lb since end if Oct ( have a weigh in app on phone).
Hope you all have a good day, will be hoping for more tips and ideas for beauty regime if anyone cares to share...
plaingirly Tue 20-Nov-12 07:11:40
How much change can you make in 5 weeks? I would love to start the new year feeling fitter!
Rockchick1984 Tue 20-Nov-12 08:25:42
Well, rubbish day diet wise yesterday but I managed to remember to properly cleanse my face and remove make up before bed (normally end up using a baby wipe in the mornings to remove last nights mascara - yuck)! So healthy eating starts today...
Monday - cleansing skin properly
Tuesday - no chocolate
Wednesday - 2 litres of water per day
Thursday - no sugar
Friday - no alcohol (don't drink through the week anyway)
So one week of small changes to change my life :-) am trying to do things anyway like painting my nails, body brushing before a shower etc so have already made some changes. I feel exactly like the previous posters who were saying about feeling mumsy since having kids - I used to be low-maintenance glam so hardly any make up but well groomed and always in heels, coped without my glasses etc. Since having DS I wear my specs all the time (I don't suit glasses), always in flat shoes as I can't chase DS in heels, and carrying a good 7-14lbs extra weight still sad I love being a mum but miss being me as well - hopefully this thread will give me the kick up the arse that I need grin
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 20-Nov-12 08:28:11
Plaingirly, I have done 5 weeks of personal training and already dropped two waist size in jeans!
Regardless of any weight loss and just feel better in myself and more positive.
Hopefully I can continue to go forward and keep it up!
As for beauty,
Add babyoil to your bath (or any other kind of oil) rehydrates your skin without having to stand around in a cold bathroom waiting for sticky body lotions to dry
Mix exfoliater with your regular cleansing milk/ cream etc. you can use it ever day to really brighten the skin
Shape (not file) nails every 3 to 4 days to stop any tears or snagging.
Small tube of hand cream in hand bag, apply every time you take out wallet/ keys or phone
Mix self tan in with your moisturiser to give your skin a little pick me up.
Almond oil for the nails and surrounding skin, apply before bed.
Swop your night moisturiser for a face mask once a week. Gel ones work the best and don't stain the bedding!
Hair mask on while sat in the bath, the steam will make it penetrate better.
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 20-Nov-12 08:29:50
Sorry for typos, two young children hanging off me and trying to post from phone!
winkle2 Tue 20-Nov-12 09:12:23
Morning all.
I'm not a mum but I've been ttc for a while and therefore been putting off dieting cause I thought I'd get fat anyway! Not a good attitude but I find it very hard to diet unless I have a goal in mind and seeing as the thing I want most on the world is to be fat and round with a baby, it's very hard to motivate myself.
However I have finally brought myself some new clothes (another thing I was putting off cause I thought I'd but maternity clothes) and got myself a new job (yep, another thing I was putting off!!) so I want to look and feel nice when I go to work, not feel like I have to wear clothes to cover me up.
So I weighed myself this morning and I'm 11st 3. Lets see how much I can lose for Xmas.
Some great tips there Spoilt. One tip I find handy is to plan your meals the night before.
BiddyPop Tue 20-Nov-12 09:38:29
I'm working on a long term (ish) goal of looking stunning for my DBro's wedding in May. So I need to shed almost 2 stone apart from anything else (and deal with the muffin top too).
I also need to get into a dress TONIGHT for a black tie dinner (which I had thought fitted me, but the skinny slip, skinny knicks and skinny tights will ALL be needed to zip it up.....).
I am working on remembering to drink a jug (1l) of water a day at work, keeping fruit beside the desk for snacking rather than biccies, do 20 sit ups a day for the tummy (will do them now) and making my salad for lunch at least 3 times per week (that's not a hardship as it's HUGE, just all veg and no dressing - 2 carrots, half a pepper, handful cherry tomatoes, half a handful sugarsnap peas, half an avocado (I know it's fat but it's also very good for you), about 8-10 olives, and a largehandful of lettuce).
I have booked my hair appointment for 10 days before Christmas - cut (I try for reasonably regular but sometimes that slips) and colour (I am putting in bright red highlights in my dark hair that I talked about last year, which the hairdresser thinks is mad in a good way - and there's plenty of silver poking through to give a candy cane effect!!). I have booked a facial for a couple of days before that.
And I am trying to remember to get to the gym at least twice a week and do some gym stuff (not just pootle up and down the pool 5 times as an excuse for a quiet relaxing shower and ability to dry and style my hair in peace from DD).
Eliza22 Tue 20-Nov-12 10:32:34
If you've never run before, how can you start?
I'd like to give this a go. Am 50 and recently celebrated my birthday as a big treat, in New York. Was shocked when photos went on the computer to see just how weighty I've become, despite going to the gym 3 or 4 times weekly. Of course, I'm a chocoholic and I do enjoy a glass or two of the red stuff, several times a week.
I'll do the water. I'll continue with the gym and I'll cut down on the sweet stuff. If I cut it out completely, it'll make me want it more, give in, and over indulge! I have to be realistic. But, I can lose a few pounds, yes? Of course yes!!
Eliza22 Tue 20-Nov-12 10:34:25
Oh, and anyone? How to get started on the running (slowly) thing?
Thanks smile
Rockchick1984 Tue 20-Nov-12 10:52:16
Eliza google couch to 5K, it basically teaches non runners to run over the course of a few months. I've not tried it yet (keep debating it, but can't really be bothered) and it looks really effective!
Rockchick1984 Tue 20-Nov-12 11:01:42
Winkle good luck with the TTC. How much weight do you need to lose? I had put on about half a stone prior to getting pregnant with DS, and desperately wish I'd lost it before getting pregnant as losing weight with a baby is a nightmare - I gained nearly 5 stone while pregnant blush as I used it as a chance to eat constantly and do no exercise.
As much as I'd like to say it was baby weight it really wasn't - 1 stone came off between going into labour and leaving the hospital with DS, one stone came off without any effort over the next month. That was clearly my baby weight, the rest was actually just fat blush Trying to lose weight when combined with sleepless nights, constant sugar cravings due to breastfeeding, no time to cook real meals so ending up with take away or junk food - please don't make the same mistakes as I did!!!
If its a larger amount of weight you need to lose, try to motivate yourself that you don't want to be a high risk pregnancy, a friend of mine is not what I would consider fat (roughly size 16, 5'7") and she was unable to use her local birthing centre as she was classed as high risk due to her BMI so a little weight loss can only be beneficial.
Biddy the red streaks sound fab!
Plain when I did slimming world I lost 9.5lbs in 5 weeks despite regularly cheating on the diet plan and doing no exercise, so I'm hoping I can lose at least half a stone by Christmas smile
Karbea Tue 20-Nov-12 14:33:55
Argh! I just ate a 35g bar if lindt chocolate!!! Rubbish!!! Mind you I've had a pretty harrowing morning sad and had been crying before that, so expected really sad
winkle good luck with the ttc, dh and I have been trying for over two years, we've done a round of ivf and this morning we went to an adoption open morning, dh has now finally said he can't do it - which I knew deep down, so... Umm sorry not too cheery!!! Anyway! I need you girls to help me feem healthier, happier, thiner etc etc!!! Which might cheer me up!!!
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 20-Nov-12 14:43:23
Karbea, chocolate in that situation is acceptable. Sorry about your dh sad I would of eaten a whole lot more than that!
Leather Tue 20-Nov-12 15:08:51
Sorry to hear that Karbea sad infertilty is so hard, I hope you can find a way through it together.
I too have given into temptation this afternoon, in the form of chilli heat wave Doritos...mmmmm....
Stillstarving Tue 20-Nov-12 16:55:34
Karbea I'm sorry you and dh are having such a rough time. You were remarkably restrained with the chocolate. Do keep up the 5 weeks to Xmas challenge though, sometimes it just gives you a bit of a boost to think about stuff like your nails when everything else is a bit shit.
Karbea Tue 20-Nov-12 17:18:44
starving i'm definitely keeping it up, the choc was just a blip! smile
frantic51 Tue 20-Nov-12 17:29:46
Please may I join in? I'm much older and fatter than I expect most of you (just had a sneak peak at your photos Karbea and I am shock and envy
I lost 50lbs over the summer (that's right 50lbs) and have piled a lot back on. I don't even know how much as I daren't get on the scales knowing that if it's really bad it will send me straight to the chocolate biscuits. sad
I can't afford weight watchers or the gym it would do me so much good if I had to "confess" my sins and have someone to give me a kick up the arse and/or encouragement.
BTW what is this "shred" I hear so much about? Is it a downloadable programme?
plaingirly Tue 20-Nov-12 17:31:40
Half a stone off would be fab!
Aiming to lose 4 to 5 stones in total but that seems like such a scary amount. Just read in a magazine a celebrity saying that as she is 5'2 every extra pounds shows .... I am 5'2!!
I need to start all the grooming stuff. I used to paint my nails all the time but seem to have stopped caring about myself. Just seems pointless at my weight.
So Saturday was day to get weighed ...... 13.2. That is so much more than I should be for my height.
Hate that number! Still fit into my size 16s but want to be smaller.
Chottie Tue 20-Nov-12 17:36:15
I would love to join you too. I would love to lose half a stone by Christmas. It would make all my clothes hang well and I know I would feel better too. I don't drink, but stress, work and stuff drives me to sweeties sad
winkle2 Tue 20-Nov-12 17:50:46
Eliza - I highly recommend couch to 5k. I did it a few years back and was running for 30 mins non stop after a couple of months. I can still run for half an hour (with a minute break to walk somewhere along the way) now.
Rock - been trying for 15 months sad Was only around 10 stone then though. I've allowed it to creep on. I'd like to be 9st 7 as that's a good weight for me. I'm currently 11st 3.
Sorry to hear that karbea. It's so hard this ttc business.
Frantic - shred is Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD. It's £5 from play.com and it really works. Only 20 mins a day so it's over before it really starts. You just reminded me that I have this DVD mmmm I should do it too.
Jammygal Tue 20-Nov-12 17:51:48
Ok I'm joining too.......I have lost nearly a stone and a half since August just;
Eating smaller meals
Not eating butter on bread/ toast and cutting down on oil in cooking
Not drinking in the week.
Not eating chocolate or crisps or high fat junk in the week
Walking the dog and the kids to school and back most days.
upping my cleaning!
doing yoga a few days a week.
I now need to ;
Stick to above in Christmas run up
Up water intake
Increase exercise and yoga
Increase fruit/veg
Do nails/skin/hair/teeth maintenance
Eliza22 Tue 20-Nov-12 18:26:06
Thanks Wrinkle and Rockchick. Will Google and get to work. I'm more embarrassed by the possibility of bumping into someone I know, whilst out huffing and puffing, than anything else. But the gym, to be honest, has started to bore me ridged!
surfandturf Tue 20-Nov-12 18:45:20
Hi all, I'd love to join too. Have already made a start with couch to 5k but got run down with a cold so haven't been out for a run this week. Need to try and pick it back up tomorrow. For any of you thinking about it, it does start off really slowly and you can repeat a week as many times as you like before moving up. I'm actually looking forward to starting it again!
I've got a microdermabrasion session booked at the beginning of December and have also bought myself a manicure, pedicure and back massage from Groupon which I'm having mid December - might even treat myself to some nice nails. Need to keep on top of my bushy eyebrows and hair and dig out the tooth whitening kit.
I always feel nice if I take the time to apply body shop body butter after a bath or shower. I also need to moisturise daily and drink more water instead of countless brews as my skin hates winter.
Eliza22 Tue 20-Nov-12 18:47:08
Good God, my back teeth are under water, with all the H2O I've consumed today! Is the 2 litres of water every day?
amothersplaceisinthewrong Tue 20-Nov-12 18:53:36
Have lost two stone since May by eating less and moving more - swim half a mile 5 times a week and never use a lift anywhere. Need to lose another 3lbs to get to my goal of 9st 12 for a height of five foot seven.
Hair being cut and higlighted on 20th Dec, Eyebrows will be tinted and shaped on that day too.
Cocktailsorcakes Tue 20-Nov-12 18:58:09
I know I'm late but can I join too!!
I had DD last year and still have a (large) muffin top to lose, hair that needs colouring, to start looking after my skin, nails and teeth and to get fitter!!
I love the idea of starting with just one or two things and then adding to it- think that could work for me!!
So I will start with drinking more water and looking after my skin and plan to add exercise in when DD stops teething and starts sleeping!!
Now what colour to dye hair... (quite fancy a purple or red... Too much?)
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 20-Nov-12 19:50:05
Hair booked for 22nd dec, too scared to have it done here in France again. I don't speak a word of it and last time spent 4 hours and the best part of 160€ to come out with it exactly the same all be it an inch shorter hmm shock
Thankfully as a trained therapist i can do my own mani/ pedi. Eyebrow tint and eyelash tint. Currently waiting for a call back regarding semi permanent makeup for the eyebrows. Very excited!
Tonight is my off night from exercise, just ate a magnum ice cream blush but went without lunch (see I told you I had issues!) and we walked around the park a few times so I don't think it's too bad....is it???
Cocktailsorcakes Tue 20-Nov-12 20:02:29
As long as you had a glass of water with it too Spoilt that sounds fine to me!!
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 20-Nov-12 20:17:49
grin
plaingirly Tue 20-Nov-12 21:30:47
Been to zumba tonight and last night - yesterday was my first time ever! So uncoordinated! Plus have been eating healthy properly the last two days.
Been on the scales tonight (even though I am supposed to wait til Saturday and am down 4 pounds. grin Probably water weight!
Still need to work out a grooming plan, drink more water, and actually take the vitamins and supplements I have bought!
LivingThings Tue 20-Nov-12 21:44:13
Bit late here but can I join too!!
I already run whenever I can but am limited with opportunities with DCs and work etc. Need to enter some more races for next year (have promised myself 13) to keep my motivation up.
Would like to lose half a stone - will probably low carb as find it works reasonably well for me.
Long overdue haircut booked for weekend then I need to re-dye as not too happy with colour at mo.
Need to stay away from the choc and quit the wine (toughie for me!) also reduce crisp intake as they are my achillies heel!
Also need to sort my nails out as they are tragic!
I have had a rough couple of days with my back so couldn't shred this morning, also completely forgot to go to pilates last night - been going nearly a year, just totally forgot...worry about my memory sometimes..
Also having horrible cramps and wind from something I have eaten, partly why I am trying the low carbs too living things I am finding I haven't missed them, I am also hoping I will be less bloated and crampy - although I think this was some lentil and bacon soup from yesterday. Did have one slice of wholemeal tast today, frst time I have had bread in ages, but can't believe it is that so quickly - was an hour or so ago.
I am being pretty good with food, going swimming tomorrow and am planning to do the teeth whitening at the weekend, also will henna my hair again in a few weeks as gives it a lovely shine - but just so messy!!
Think I am down to about 10st 6 from about 10st 9 about three weeks ago - slow but steady so far!
Sorry, meant to say cocktails - Lush Henna is great - very messy till you get used to it - the rouge is great, never too much I find, if you have darker hair it gives it a lovely red sheen. It does have a lingering smell though, but I have found adding some essential oils and smothering my hair in coconut oil afterwards helps. (washing it out after obv.). Nice and cheap too - I get 3 colours out of every 2 blocks, about £7 each, and only do it every 6 weeks or so, the regrowth is very gradual.
winkle2 Tue 20-Nov-12 22:58:38
Living - 13 races is brilliant!!
I'm pleased with my menu today apart from a bag of mccoys I had - need to be more organised and buy low fat crisps instead of going to the vending machine.
My menu today:
Cereal bar and fruit
Grilled chicken, small portion of rice, salad
Dinner was a wrap with homemade chilli made with no oil and with extra lean mince, with a slice of cheese and then baked in the oven.
winkle2 Tue 20-Nov-12 22:58:54
And a bag of mccoys!
Rockchick1984 Wed 21-Nov-12 00:16:53
Well, managed to stick to my 2 changes so far today - proper face wash at bedtime and no chocolate. Tomorrow's extra challenge is to start drinking 2 litres of water each day.. That's 3.5 pints so thinking that may feel more manageable as I can easily drink a pint of water in one go (it's just that normally I would do that just the once each day) smile
Are we going to have a weigh-in day, or stats list or anything?
Also, did anyone ever read the princessing threads over on Style and Beauty? If I manage to stick to this, I may try to incorporate a few more bits from there, it just seemed way too daunting to start doing all of it at once smile
Rockchick1984 Wed 21-Nov-12 00:18:32
Food-wise I did really well today, but then made soup for tea and ended up eating loads of bread and butter with it blush sad but no chocolate or crisps etc so better than I usually manage I suppose.
plaingirly Wed 21-Nov-12 07:08:55
I read the princess threads but never managed to stick to it! I feel a lot more motivated now though.
I am actually thinking about what I am eating!
winkle2 Wed 21-Nov-12 08:25:13
Don't ask me how but I'm 5lbs down this morning! 10st 12 smile Def motivation to keep it up!
I haven't done any of the other things on this thread like moisturising, more water, etc but I'm def thinking about what to wear to work rather than throwing on trousers and a top and I've done my hair in a funky twist rather than throwing it up in a ponytail smile
Eliza22 Wed 21-Nov-12 08:34:29
I'm doing "small achievable steps/changes". No massive exercise p,edges or cooking separate meals cause I'm "on a diet". But.... I WILL do a 30 min brisk walk (and its pissing it down here), I WILL drink the water and I WON'T touch the biscuit tin.
Will that do, for my first week?
Rockchick1984 Wed 21-Nov-12 09:30:47
Well done winkle - how long has that taken?
Karbea Wed 21-Nov-12 10:02:54
Morning girls!
Right after a dreadful nights sleep (DH is now away til late Thurs night and my kitten LOVES aggressive cuddling randomly during the night!), I'm back! Yesterday I went a bit into my shell - sorry! I did however (apart from the chocolate bar), keep things up so my small changes are as follows:
Sunday : No Alcohol
Monday : No Choc's/Crisps (slipped with the choc a bit 35g's not tooooo bad)
Tuesday : No Caffeine.
Eliza rockchick I definitely think the small steps is the way to go, much easier to build on it, and as someone says it takes a few days to make something a habit. I found the princessing too overwhelming sad
Today I need to muck out my house! and then I think i'll start my running regime (can you tell ive been putting this off? I downloaded a 24 week Marathon training plan. I did the first two days last week (you are supposed to do it 6 out of 7 days!!!)...
winkle that's amazing well done! rockchick happy to do stats etc, but wouldn't know how to do it if there's some sophisticated mumsnet way (technophobe)
cocktails welcome
spoiltbrat in my book until magnums/chocolate/icecream is on your "one small thing a day list" I reckon it's open season - enjoy!
Hi everyone else thanks for the love yesterday smile
Right! Mucking out ;)
Rockchick1984 Wed 21-Nov-12 10:18:10
No techie way to do it, one person starts and the next copies, pastes and adds their own stats onto it.
Name:Rockchick1984
Current weight:10st 4lbs
Target weight: 9st 7lbs
Eliza22 Wed 21-Nov-12 14:19:45
I did the 30mins walk/run thing. When DH gets back from Finland, going to ask him to download the Couch to 5k Podcasts which will gee me up a bit.
Water now....
Weighed myself this morning and realise that I have 1stone to lose to get back to where I was when I thought "I could do with getting a few pounds off!" [shocked]
Well done all!
Eliza22 Wed 21-Nov-12 14:20:35
I meant shock
Cocktailsorcakes Wed 21-Nov-12 16:01:28
Right I am on target with the water, have avoided the cakes I made yesterday before I saw this thread and have moisturised!
I find thinking about the things I haven't eaten that I didn't NEED to eat (like the cake or bread and butter with my lunchtime soup) makes me feel like I am achieving more... And make me feel less bad about the things I did have (the hot chocolate and marshmallows for example!!) blush
Spoiltexpatbrat Wed 21-Nov-12 16:07:17
Just power walked around central paris, in heels, pushing a pram and holding an umbrella! Surely some cals burnt in the 4 miles or so that I walked?
One small orange and a chicken wrap, no dressing. That's it.
I can't weigh myself due to batteries on scales being dead. Weiss weigh ourselves much because the batteries only last max 2 weeks shock dh thinks they are rubbish so has ordered ones that link up with the I phone and keeps tabs on you. Just what I need!
Went for new batteries today and they want 9€!! For two round ones! Only 50p in Dubai where we used to live and so much cheaper in uk too.
One good thing I did today was to put back a packet of haribo. I had them in the basket but I remembered this thread and dumped them amongst the nappies grin
Anyway, personal training tonight. Battery shopping tomorrow smile
Cocktailsorcakes Wed 21-Nov-12 16:07:49
And missmakesstuff I'll look into the henna thanks for the tip! I'll have a look at it next time i'm in town. My hair is (now) light-mid brown which is why I worry about going a strong colour. If it was darker I know it would look ace (black hair envy).
I used to dye it different colours or bleach it in my 20's but not sure I can get away with it now I'm in my mid 30's but it's definitely one of those things that would make me feel more like me and less like 'just' mum.
Karbea Wed 21-Nov-12 18:45:22
Yahh I just did my run, so happy needed to share smile
just need to keep it up tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day...
Cocktails I have mid brown hair, mousey really, with some a lot of grey, the greys go a proper bright red, which is nice actually, and the rest goes varied shades of red, dark to more true red.
It makes me feel a bit funky, more like myself too. I am very boring otherwise as I am a teacher, but can get away with the hair as it isn't over the top. I am also mid 30's...I had every colour under the sun throughout my teens and 20's, purple to black, to red and blonde - now fairly boring bob, but the red I like grin.
They do a brown/red, marron I think it is called, bit less scary, but with henna you can layer it up, it's like coats of varnish (not literally...!)
Everyone sounds so positive. I swam tonight, 24 lengths, would have done more but the pool was busy and I was getting fed up being behind really slow swimmers (not fast enough for fast lane, too fast for slow lane...)
I have had a good food day, although allowed myself a small slice of fruit toast just now, was loverly..
really going to have to try the shred tomorrow morning, I need to it everyday now as 30 days till we go away to china to visit the family....arrgh!
Think I will still aim for 4 times a week, swim and pilates on the other days.
Karbea Wed 21-Nov-12 21:08:18
Today's update from me!
Sunday : no alcohol
Monday : No Choc's/Crisps
Tuesday : no caffeine
Wednesday : Run
Tomorrow I think I'm going to have a portion of fruit with my breakfast.
winkle2 Wed 21-Nov-12 22:19:41
Another good day for me. Nearly caved and had wine but remembered this thread grin
Still off chocolate (polishes halo) even when making chocolate crispy cakes for DD school fayre.
Ate 2 bags of liquorice this week, (but I'm sure it's got iron and vit-a-mins in it, innit)
Hair- this week
Teeth -next week
Need to work on my nails and hands (damned vinyl gloves and crappy work soap).
I'm going to concentrate on everything else and weigh myself in 2 weeks <<gulp>>
Rockchick1984 Wed 21-Nov-12 23:10:25
Rubbish day today - ended up with a Chinese take away blush followed by a galaxy caramel blush blush blush
Ah, well, tomorrow is another day, so will try to get back on it properly. Still managed to cleanse my face properly, and drank my 2 litres of water so at least that's something which will help the beauty side of things even if the diet didn't go to plan smile
rusmum Thu 22-Nov-12 00:02:47
Can I join? Lost 3 stone this year (c25k and my fitness pal) but last month been AWFUL!!!! eating crap- drinking wine too often . feeling flabbier than I have in ages, I WILL- exercise 3 x a week, log into MFP daily and drink some water everyday! x
Karbea Thu 22-Nov-12 08:04:42
Woo! Just completed today's run, much happier getting it done early in the day as far more likely to actually do it!
rusmum welcome smile I've never used MFP is it helpful - what does it actually do?
Eliza22 Thu 22-Nov-12 08:27:59
Severe weather warning?! WHATEVER. I'm off for my walk/run.
Wholemeal toast with a scrape of Marmite and cuppa (no sugar) downed. First water of the day had. I'm out there in ten....
Hope it's another good day for us today!
Jammygal Thu 22-Nov-12 14:03:22
Well done all for making lots of changes ;)
I have done my yoga but no walk today as weather is hurricanised out there!
I have been eating ok although hungry a lot this week.....need to improve water intake but find tap water totally bland....any tips for jazzing it up?????
Spoiltexpatbrat Thu 22-Nov-12 14:55:35
Jammygal, try squeezing some lemon into the water, it's cleansing as well as some other stuff, but I can't remember what grin
Machine Pilates tonight, I love it! Tomorrow I have Zumba in the morning and personal trainer in the evening. We had to cancel last night due to dh feeling poorly hmm so two lots of exercise for me tomorrow!
Have just sat and buffed nails to a fantastic shine. I used the babyliss blocks. Fantastic!
BiddyPop Thu 22-Nov-12 15:01:28
I managed to get to the gym this morning, and while I didn't actually run, I did do a decent fast walk and 2 full rounds of the weights I use too. And remembered my tummy exercises. Cos I was later getting into work because of that, M&S was just open so I got raspberries and blueberries to have with the last of my tub of yoghurt, orange juice (and I only got mini cupcakes and mince pies for tomorrow afternoon's glass of wine at work - we promised this to ourselves after the last manic deadline period that we'd do it this time, and the session just finished today so tomorrow we drink wine!!). And I remembereed to make my salad last night.
Ugh, it's pretty miserable here today, and I know DD wants pizza tomorrow - but I might get pizza for her, curry for me and let the au pair choose which she'd prefer (there's a good Indian takeaway next to the local Dominoes).
Cocktailsorcakes Thu 22-Nov-12 16:58:26
Thanks Missmakesstuff I have also found the odd a plethora of grey hairs so good to know they get covered!
Today I have drunk my water, stopped the snacking and walked briskly with the pram for an hour (well two lots of 30mins).
I have the choice of veg stir fry and noodles or 3 slices of homemade pizza for tea... I know what I want but it's the wrong choice isn't it...
I need to book DH to stay in so I can go swimming a couple of nights as I feel I'm way behind in the exercise stakes!!
Plus I found the scales and weighed myself today, I figure I have a stone (at least) to lose...
yumyum Thu 22-Nov-12 17:13:31
Hi, can I join too please??
I need to lose at least 2 and a half stone and have been thinking about joining slimming world. I just cannot keep off the chocolate and crisps!!!
I like the idea of trying to change little things every day, so my aim is to drink more water - at least 1litre a day and have at least 1 portion of fruit a day (yuck!) ha ha, there I said it..I hate fruit! I also hate exercise, hence the extra weight.
Anyway.. I'll give it a go! smile
Doing my best (a half *rsed version of WW) hmm
but have resigned myself to the fact that the "apron" will never go without surgery! sad
Must try to stay away from the wine .......
plaingirly Thu 22-Nov-12 18:56:42
I just want to feel young. There are clothes I like that I don't buy as I feel too fat for them and just don't have the confidence.
I shop in Bon Marche!! I am 26 the same age as Lauren Conrad, Megan Fox, Leighton Meester, Jenna-Louise Coleman and Lady Gaga. Can you imagine any of them shopping in Bon Marche?!
I just seem to have given up on myself and got old really fast. Hoping that losing weight and getting healthy will cure me but I feel like I have missed out on the years for experimentation with fashion, hair and make up.
LivingThings Thu 22-Nov-12 19:49:10
Have come down with a nasty cold- good start eh! Snuggled on sofa in hoodie feeling poo. Have still moisturised, make up etc but then always do so nothing new there. Have now not run for nearly a week which always makes me a bit stabby - must get to running club at weekend.
Karbea Thu 22-Nov-12 20:25:07
Oh no everyone seems sad
I've been pretty good today, although haven't really got the hang of drinking that much water.
I would say I'm feeling pretty good actually and my skin looks better, maybe just a coincidence but either way I'm happy.
I'm not sure what to add to my list tomorrow... Any suggestions?
Sunday : no alcohol
Monday : no chocolate or crisps
Tuesday : no caffeine
Wednesday : run
Thursday : portion of fruit with breakfast.
VividVanilla Thu 22-Nov-12 20:40:11
I'd love to join this discussion. Thaks for starting this thread, Karbea.
At 5'4" (on a good day), I'm not exactly tall; I'm also not exactly a spring chicken, so now need to watch what I eat before I turn definitively globular.
I had started looking positively rotund in photographs, but couldn't be bothered didn't really know how to shed the weight. About a month ago, someone I bumped into (quite literally) and got talking with told me about what she claimed to be an "easy" diet from Australia? I wouldn't go as far as to say it's easy, but it does seem to be working - although only to an extent but that's probably because I haven't done the minimal exercise that's required alongside it. I've NEVER dieted before, but something prompted me to give this a go.
Only meat and eggs every three hours for the initial three days. Nothing else. Except water. And tea/coffee with minimal milk and no sugar. For three whole days. Ugh. Then - on days 4, 5 and 6, you add a slice of granary/wholemeal bread (only for breakfast) and veggies (no root veg.) throughout the day.
Day seven was the clincher for me: you get to have a complete blowout grin. ALL DAY. grin Cream cakes, chocolate, the lot. Sin.
No more "just meat" days after that: you just do the predominantly-meat-and-a-slice-of-wholemeal/granary-bread-and-some-veggies thing after that, punctuated by a blowout day.
The strange thing was - I didn't really even WANT those sinful, decadent things when my blowout day came round: instead, I wanted fruit, yoghurt and milk! Possibly all the things my body truly craved - rather than what my tastebuds THOUGHT they needed.
That got me thinking, and I decided I NEEDED the dairy, too - and the fruit. So I adapted the diet to include moderate portions of fruit and dairy (skimmed milk).
I've lost 4 kg over the past month - going from 64 kg to 60 kg (my target weight is what I used to weigh two years ago: 53 kg). (Admittedly, there's only minimal exercise mixed in: all I do is walk the dog that doesn't really like going for a walk once in a while. The DCs take her the rest of the time. I put my hand up to having gone for a "proper" walk three times over the past month.
And I now have two blowout days a week. blush
Must do more exercise, drink more water. It HAS helped that I've stopped drinking the red. It HASN'T helped that I'm lumbered with impossible project deadlines atm and have to keep going tappity-tap at my PC all day long. angry
Is that my blowout day I see approaching on the horizon? wink
Rockchick1984 Thu 22-Nov-12 21:29:49
Karbea what about something to do with the beauty side of things? Start using a gradual tan moisturiser, body brushing or something like that?
Spoiltexpatbrat Thu 22-Nov-12 21:58:55
Plain girlie, are you in France too? Or do they have Bon marche somewhere else?
Just in from Pilates, just enough time for a quick sleep before Zumba at 9am, and training at 8pm!
I'm forcing myself to eat fruit during the day so my body doesn't think I'm starving it.
Still no batteries so have no idea if the scales are moving, hopefully it will be sorted by the weekend.
My personal trainer is also doing the Zumba classes and she mentioned that the other instructor said I was fit! I did do the biggest weights in the class -- and nearly killed myself-- but that was due to not knowing what was coming up and being the last to get the weights and getting left with the heaviest!
The thing is I did it so tomorrow I will have to use the same... I can already feel the burn
roxasofi Fri 23-Nov-12 00:18:27
Hi everyone, i'm a new mummy , i got a lovely 6 month old baby girl and i'm back to normal with my weight so i'm looking forward to Xmas . if somebody want to do running in the park and live around Colindale, let me know.
Meggles76 Fri 23-Nov-12 06:35:49
My update:
Sat - 5k
Mon - shred
Wed - 5k
And this morning I will run 5k.
Been a hectic week which has not had a good impact on the diet. Eating on the run and crap takeaways. I don't need to lose weight. I just want to be healthier. And feel better about myself.
Tough week in terms of low mood which I suffer from. It probably sounds pathetic but I feel lonely. Yet I am surrounded by lovely colleagues everyday and know lots of people where I live.
Still thinking about what to take away with me for xmas clothes wise... Been to Center Parcs before and it's pretty casual so my usual skinnies, leggings, tops and wedge trainers should be fine. I might pack a dress for xmas day.
Karbea Fri 23-Nov-12 08:13:05
meggles don't want to be a bore, but I do think diet and mood are related.
I get the lonely thing, I don't work and my nearest friend lives 45mins away, dh works all the time and when he isn't working he is asleep.
Well done on the exercise!
spoilt you're my exercise hero smile
VividVanilla Fri 23-Nov-12 09:11:50
Mood and workload/stress definitely impact what you eat and how you look at / feel about food.
Something else I'm going to force myself to do from next week onwards (once I've got a couple of deadlines out of the way) is actually use that piece of exercise equipment that I'm currently using as a clothes draper and have used properly only once since I bought it. blush
Motivation isn't easy to come by at the best of times. I hope we all get to that place we've defined in our heads.
Spoiltexpatbrat Fri 23-Nov-12 10:31:58
Good morning (sings in a cheery voice!)
Well ds 10 months decided to keep me awake most of the night due to teething. So I had three hours sleep, broken I hasten to add and woke this morning to an aching body. However i soldiered on an made it to Zumba which I have just finished and realized I haven't eaten anything at all!
Tut tut
So I'm keeping on my gym stuff as I have training at 8pm, I'll be the slummy mummy on the school run today wink
I feel quite empowered not eating, which I know is dangerous and I don't want to go down that route. I will eat once I get home, just not any rubbish.
I find if I have a good day I will be good the next, if I have a bad day however it can effect me for a few days. One chocolate turns into a bar etc etc.
I have downloaded my fitness pal too. If I carry on like the last two days I will lose a stone before Christmas but in all honestly that's highly unlikely.
Megglet, I feel your pain. We relocated to France from Dubai when ds was 8 weeks old. I didn't want to leave Dubai and really haven't given France a chance. I have about three friends total! Most have left to go home for the extended holiday period so I have one shock
We move to Korea in may. So I'm in the mind set that I don't need any friends because ill only have to say goodbye sad
I use mn a lot more than I really should, there is always somebody around!
As for the holiday wardrobe, think layers. If you are having a 'fat' day you can drape layers over yourself! Skinny jeans and a baggy jumper is a good look for this winter, hides the muffin top top wink
My aim is to fit in size 29 jeans for a night out on the 22nd dec when we go back to uk. I'm the only mother in the group of best friends I have, my aim is not to show it!!!
Spoiltexpatbrat Fri 23-Nov-12 10:36:06
... Failing that ill distract them with a pair of louboutins and my Chanel 2.55 wink (shallow, moi? grin)
Always have a plan B, that's my motto!
BiddyPop Fri 23-Nov-12 15:20:34
I haven't done a lot of exercise this week - although I have gone to the gym once and I am walking the stairs more rather than always using the lift at work. But I have managed my salad 3 days, and even though I was at a conference all morning, I managed to have (too much) coffee, orange juice and 1 flapjack in the 2.5 hours before it started (coffee shop first to read what I needed to know, then in the hall with loads of pastries etc), only coffee at the break, and quite a nice soup and salad lunch (ignored the wine and the decadent looking deserts). So I am doing ok.
And I am happy with this week overall as, despite DH being away and work being manic, I have eaten healthily and not overdone the portions either. And I am still have half of the bottle of wine that I opened on Sunday to drink. (I might have that tonight though...).
Eliza22 Fri 23-Nov-12 16:30:07
I've walked and done the water today but.... My husband returns tonight (works away a lot) and there WILL be wine !!
Still, didn't snaffle any chocolate/biccies so, it could be worse smile
Spoiltexpatbrat Fri 23-Nov-12 18:16:03
I'm aching! Sat waiting for the personal trainer, wishing instead that I could curl up with a film and some chocolate grin
Just update my fitness pal. I have lost 9.6lb in 2 months!
If every day was like today I would be 53.5kg in 5 weeks. However I couldn't do this much exercise in a 24 period again.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and you make the most of your rest/ diet free days
VividVanilla Fri 23-Nov-12 19:44:48
I've just had a bag of Thornton's milk chocolate and 17 giant chocolate buttons.
My blowout day appears to have set in a day too soon.
VividVanilla Fri 23-Nov-12 19:45:50
(P.S. I was bullied into having the Thornton's)
Imflabulous Fri 23-Nov-12 20:15:37
Ok I have not updated as been bloody awful! Need a kick up the arse as gave dh Xmas works do in 2 weeks!
All those being good, well done! I need a hoof up the bum.
Spoiltexpatbrat Fri 23-Nov-12 20:26:41
I would kick you up the bum but quite frankly I can no longer move confused which I good as I can't even be bothered to walk to the fridge'
Karbea Fri 23-Nov-12 21:57:38
I love the way everyone's good work falls apart when their dh's are back on the scene. Mine was exhausted tonight, already asleep (9:30), so couldn't tempt me with chocs or wine, but tomorrow's another day!
spoiltexpat check you out today! A few months ago, I did 2 sessions in one day and then did nothing for about a month, I felt so virtuous that I could do no wrong!
imflabulous just pick one thing to do a day and don't beat yourself up, start with easy stuff and build up to the more tricky stuff.
vivid I've not have any chocolate since Tuesday and bizarrely don't miss it, I've been known to eat 6 full size snickers over the course of a day...
biddy well done smile it's hard to keep at it, when things are stressy.
Ok, today went pretty well I think. I'm slightly worries about the amount of nuts I'm eating but I guess it's better than chocolate, although maybe more calories?
I had a facial at lunch time so before I went I had a miso soup so I'd not be ravenous afterwards, which seemed to work. I managed to run round the supermarket and get a healthy lunch rather than my normal hungry shopping which means, crisps, cakes, biscuits etc.
Tonight I made meatballs which might not be the healthiest but they were yum, and I used brown spaghetti and didn't touch the garlic bread :angel:
Ok round up!
Sunday : no alcohol
Monday : no choc/crisps
Tuesday : no caffeine
Wednesday : ran
Thursday : portion of fruit with breakfast
Friday : body brushing
I reckon tomorrow will be something easy like flossing/mouthwash as dh will be around, so I won't be able to think of any thing better.
Still no chocolate (Yay) .
I bought a Soap & Glory lipglossy thing that is supposed to be lip plumping. I'm never going to be Angelina Jolie but this tingles a bit so who knows grin
Imflabulous Sat 24-Nov-12 07:13:08
My week has went.
Sun healthy eating
Mon healthy eating and shred
Tue healthy eating, exfoliated
Wed semi healthy eating, hair done
Thur very un ealthy eating
Fri even more un healthy eating
Sat......gonna try and do better diet wise, drink more water and some kind of exercise perhaps.
Here's to a better week next week.
winkle2 Sat 24-Nov-12 09:26:25
I've been up and down all week too with my eating - some good meals, some not so good. Away for the weekend which means being out of the house and eating out but will try and make healthy choices. Don't want to see the 11s again next week!
plaingirly Sat 24-Nov-12 09:29:31
Out of the 13s which feels good! 4 pounds off 56 to go.
This week - did zumba twice, did some exercises at home, drank more water, bought vitamins and supplements (just need to start taking them!!), walked to work every day, stuck to my diet and worked on my grooming.
Even turned down a bacon sandwich at work!!
plaingirly Sat 24-Nov-12 15:59:10
I am aching today!
Did some exercises at home - just random ones from magazines - and tried to really push myself! I have eaten really healthily too. Can't wait until I start to see some sort of results.
I can't tell that I have lost 4 pounds so maybe when I have lost a stone or two I will notice.
VividVanilla Sat 24-Nov-12 16:11:06
Well, today is my bi-weekly weekly blowout day and I'm fat and bloated but my tastebuds are at peace grin
Karbea - bizarrely, I'm by and large the same with chocolate now that I'm watching what I'm eating (not on blowout days, though: I've just polished off half a box of a few After Eights, and I've got a Snickers bar waiting for me in my sin-drawer wink).
The rest of the time, though, (and I never thought I'd say this) I actually rather enjoy being virtuous and self-disciplined. Possibly stems from a lifetime of decadence hmm
On a different note - does anyone know how to (self-)treat severe cramp? It woke me up last night: I was in agony - and I just couldn't prise the toes on my right foot apart. It took around an hour off and on of me hopping about before the nerve pain that accompanied the muscular spasm abated. I had a repeat episode this afternoon while I was cleaning the fridge: it really is paralysing. Could it be dehydration, I wonder? I've been really good better than usual with water today, and I added some salt to lemonade after the second bout (isn't that supposed to be the thing to do when you're dehydrated?) but I'm dreading the onset of further cramps. I might have to have an all-night vigil sad.
I hope everyone's having a good Saturday.
Back to my blowout grin >>>>> (and my crampy toes sad)
Karbea Sat 24-Nov-12 16:33:19
vivid you should put your foot in warm water, also it's to do with dehydration.
For lunch today I had a big mac and fries and this afrnoon I had the apple pie! But, as none of these thing are on my list yet I'm ok smile didn't run today as it's the rest day.
I'm watching the mad men series one box set.
Gingefringe Sat 24-Nov-12 19:52:58
Can I join you tomorrow? I'm just waiting for a Chinese takeaway to be delivered and had 3 wagon wheels this afternoon!
I'm very motivated by you all and plan to do
1. Shred 3 times a week
2. Loads of water (I sit next to a water cooler at work so there's no excuse)
3. Walk a mile with the dog every day
4. Keep off the chocolates
5. Soup for lunch every day
Karbea Sat 24-Nov-12 20:35:45
ribs covered in sauce and wedges for dinner, but did have some veg too :angel: hehe!
I nearly forgot to body brush this morning, but did it after my shower rather than before, which I guess is ok... Everything else on track today smile have to do a 60min run tomorrow :yikes:
gingefringe welcome! Your list sounds good, look forward to hearing how you do in the coming weeks smile
Karbea Sun 25-Nov-12 10:15:20
Morning all!
How are your weekends fairing? Good I hope!
I've just run for 60mins so feeling good! I sneakily weighed myself earlier and haven't lost an oz! Annoying as I've not had chocolate since my blip on Tuesday, but then I did have mcds and ribs yesterday (thanks DH!!!!)
Quick round up!
Sunday : no alcohol
Monday : no choc/crisps
Tuesday : no caffeine
Wednesday : ran
Thursday : portion of fruit with breakfast
Friday : body brushing
Saturday : flossing and mouthwash.
Today I think it'll be night eye cream as I'm rubbish at remembering...
Happy Sunday to one and all! And remember if its not on your list yet it's not bad ;)
Rockchick1984 Sun 25-Nov-12 10:33:13
Monday - cleansing skin properly
Tuesday - no chocolate
Wednesday - 2 litres of water per day
Thursday - no sugar
Friday - no alcohol
Well... I've stuck to cleansing my skin properly, had 2 litres of water most days, and no alcohol.... However I've had chocolate twice, and a massive blueberry muffin yesterday blush so no luck on the no chocolate and sugar steps sad
I'm going to try and add more steps this week, aiming for
Monday - paint nails whenever chipped
Tuesday - no chocolate (again)
Wednesday - start using hair oil
Thursday - no pizza (this hurts me, I love pizza so much!)
Friday - no sugar (again)
On the plus side, my skin is looking loads better already, and DH has said if I want to shred he will give it a go with me smile
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 25-Nov-12 10:46:45
<yawn>
Dd has croup, it's been a hard 24 hours which resulted in very little sleep last night. I feel terrible!
Yesterday we went to m&s, gosh I miss that place so much! French food has nothing on the good old English stuff.
Anyway, due to dd not eating we offered her anything so came back with bags full of junk shock
Dd didn't want anything so I ended up snacking most of the day with her to try to encourage eating.
I did however manage to stay within the 1200 cals on my fitness pal. Is anyone else using this? Perhaps we could add each other for more encouragement?
Today I had a long shower and put hair mask on and tonight will tint eyebrows/ lashes. Buff nails, face mask and generally have a pamper evening. Dh loves me doing stuff to him so will gladly join in grin
Karbea Sun 25-Nov-12 11:55:17
What is my fitness pal. Sorry being lazy could probably google it blush
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 25-Nov-12 12:22:59
It's an app for android/ I phone.
You basically create an account, put in your weight and target weight so you can track it.
You add your exercise and calorie intake and it will give you motivational tips and show you what you would be if you carried on the way you are going.
You can also add friends so you can encourage each other and track their progress too!
gracelesslady Sun 25-Nov-12 13:00:48
Hi can I join in?
I was trying to do the 100 day challenge from the style and beauty thread, think it was a descendant of the princessing threads, anyway have been rubbish at it but its now 4 weeks to Christmas and I am still in need of princessing/amazingness and am inspired by the gentle approach of a new good thing every day. I've got loads if exercise DVDs (shred, Tracy Anderson, Davina) and I've lost them all. Or the baby has hidden them under the fridge.... My one good thing today is to turn the house upside down, find at least one and do it.
I don't need to lose much weight, maybe half a stone or so and my plan is to do some sort of exercise every day, eat properly (cos I have a tendency to eat crap) and step up the grooming: face masks, plucking eyebrows, using body moisturisers and dry skin brushing. Not in that order.... smile
We will be fabulous by Christmas! Xx
VividVanilla Sun 25-Nov-12 13:37:06
no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry blush
Drank about a gallon of water before I went to bed and did soak my right foot in warm water for a few minutes (the dog was playing with the other one) - and that may have helped. Made a few trips to the loo during the night, predictably BUT
no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps no toe cramps grin
Scrummy scrambled eggs with onion, tomatoes and chilli chicken this morning, washed down with a mug of decaff coffee (no sugar).
And I managed to wash my hair.
Working for the rest of the day.
(did I mention I've not had any toe cramps?)
Imflabulous Sun 25-Nov-12 13:43:23
Back on the road to virtue, drink water and eat sensibly are on cards for today.I'm in work soon, so having a chillaxing morning.
Week plan is
Mon foot scrub and moisturise
Tue face mask, eye brow pluck
Wed exercise
Thur fake tan to perk me up
Fri pedicure and more exercise
Healthy eating and water consumption included in the above.
Meggles76 Sun 25-Nov-12 13:44:24
Thank you Karbea. I definitely agree about the diet and mood link. Reasonable weekend. Did ripped in 30 level 2 workout on Friday and then a 10k run on Saturday. Running really improves my mood.
The eating has also been more regular. Wholemeal roll and ham salad for lunch yesterday. Fish paella for dinner and some fruit in the evening on Saturday. Lunch today was veg soup. Tonight we are having pasta with meatballs in a veg sauce and salad.
I have cut and filed nails so they are all same length. Will paint nice blood red shade today. Toes already done.
I have been through wardrobe ensuring all is clean and hung or folded. No loose threads or missing buttons etc... Also sorted out scarves and accessories.
Imflabulous Sun 25-Nov-12 13:45:33
Also vivi glad no toe cramps!
Spoilt hope dd croup gets better soon.
AsparagusFern Sun 25-Nov-12 17:06:37
Hi all!
Great to find this thread! Can I join in?
Karbea andSpoilt I'm a big MyFitnessPal fan.
Since I discovered it last year it's basically the only thing that successfully gets my weight down. Once you've saved your favourite meals, it isn't too much of a hassle. It's even fun sometimes filling it in! However, as with everything, you need to be conscientious with it - and that's my downfall!
I thought this winter that I'd try and go for the low GI / low GL approach so I don't have to count anything. Anyone else doing this? Any tips / shared experiences gratefully received!
I'm finding it a bit of a struggle as my middle name might as well be LovesCarbs!
Karbea Sun 25-Nov-12 17:24:03
Ok I've created an account and added in breakfast/lunch and my run. Just need to fill it in daily! Maybe that'll be my one thing today haha!!
AsparagusFern Sun 25-Nov-12 17:32:31
Great Karbea Well done!
It's actually bloody addictive when you first start using it, you'll love it. You've actually inspired me to reactivate mine today....so that's my one thing!
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 25-Nov-12 18:53:05
Dh has just purchase scales that link to I phone, and computer! So every time I weigh myself it will keep my phone updated. It also measures body fat etc shock
It's going to scare me into never touching chocolate or wine gums again grin
Karbea Sun 25-Nov-12 18:55:46
Wow that's amazing! I'm jealous!
I'm shock how many calories there are in nuts! No wonder I didn't lose any weight last week sad
VividVanilla Sun 25-Nov-12 19:13:10
Thank you, Imflabulous. I'm rather glad too!
The hydration's progressing well today, but not a lot else is.
I shall try to up the activity thing tomorrow.
The one new thing I've done today? Just signed up to MyFitnessPal.
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 25-Nov-12 19:39:21
Who wants to link into my fitness pal? Looking for more encouragement and If I think someone is checking on me it will make me be good smile
The bar code scanner on that app is fab! Try it.
Beauty pampering session to commence shortly, hopefully dd will go to bed ok. This croup is terrible! sad
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 25-Nov-12 19:41:08
Karbea nuts are a killer in the cal stakes sad try snacking on almonds, they are a good source of energy. No more than 10 though
VividVanilla Sun 25-Nov-12 19:41:40
Spoilt - I will. Ummm - how do I find you on there??
(I hope your daughter's better soon)
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 25-Nov-12 19:43:45
Onion rings are apparently MUCH worse than nuts!!! I blame my DH!!!!
I'm 23 calories over even after my hr run, I'm so glad I did it!!!!
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 25-Nov-12 20:50:00
Karbea, can't pm you from my phone hmm but if you have already added vivid then I'm here friend. Name starting with b ending in r
Karbea Sun 25-Nov-12 21:43:09
Right evening round up!
Week 1 : no alcohol, no choc/crisps, no caffeine, ran, portion of fruit with breakfast, body brushing, flossing and mouthwash - one fail 35g of Lindt choc on Tuesday. Weight : Haven't lost anything, Look/feel better/fitter : think I feel more energetic, zits no change.
Sunday : created my fitness pal, keep up to date and within calories, 23 calories over!!! Grr!! ( blame DH and onion rings).
Rockchick1984 Mon 26-Nov-12 08:39:57
Oooh, can you all PM me your MFP names so I can add you? I used to use it but haven't for ages, will start again smile
Just weighed myself and I'm 1.5lb down - yay!!!!
AsparagusFern Mon 26-Nov-12 09:45:14
I haven't done the adding thing yet on MFP. Will have a look!
Today I'm going to be very good and stick to my 1,200 cals. (I'm only 5'3" so that's what it's set me...)
A problem though is using up our pub quiz winnings tonight.... We won £25 worth of free drinks last week to use tonight. How do I resist that?! Vodka and soda water's okay, isn't it?! smile
Eliza22 Mon 26-Nov-12 10:23:43
Morning!
My weekend didn't go as well as I'd hoped, as no time to do the Couch to 5k but on the plus side MAJOR reduction in alcohol, salad with pork for dinner where I could have had a proper roast, with all the trimmings and NO desert/cheese after! That's a BIG change, for me, so I'm happy!
Have a great week ladies!
VividVanilla Mon 26-Nov-12 11:46:12
A sluggish (yet frenetic) morning after a nightmarish (literally) night.
Karbea, please note - it was me that ended up having them - and all I watched was Dragons' Den!! I hope you survived Critchley...
welp confused
Piles of paperwork. Can I resist my sin-drawer, I wonder...? hmm
Please do PM me your MFP usernames (other than Karbea and Spoilt who are friends on there already smile
Rockchick, I'll PM you mine.
I found my Tracy Anderson DVDs! Got up at half 6 and did (most) of the post pregnancy one before the kids got up. Have since eaten cake and crisps so not exactly angelic, but hey ho.
It's pouring with rain here. Anyone got any sunshine?
AsparagusFern Mon 26-Nov-12 14:18:08
Pouring with rain here too!
I'm on holiday this week and I tell you my constant proximity to the fridge is terrible!
However - just input my lunch of chicken, avocado and half fat mozzarella salad and MFP is loving it. Think I need to go easy on the avo and mozz tho! hmm
Eliza22 Mon 26-Nov-12 14:47:42
Tipping it down.... Must....run..... (Unlikely, in this!)
plaingirly Mon 26-Nov-12 19:19:48
Just back from Zumba - I am SO unfit!!
Spoiltexpatbrat Mon 26-Nov-12 19:41:30
Just sat waiting to go into the Pilates studio... 3oo cals under goal, bu I've eaten crap! (As those on Mfp can see blush) both kids are ill now so I've been snacking in between. Tried to tempt dd to eat by offering her macdonalds <yes really!!!> she hasn't eaten for three days and can ill afford to lose any weight. Needless to say I bought a happy meal and she didn't want it hmm I had the drink and a few chips but felt so guilty!
I have tinted eyebrows, buffed nails and put on a face mask.
New scales arrive tomorrow so no more cheating from that day forward wink
Karbea Mon 26-Nov-12 20:08:33
Evening all!
I've been ok today, kept to all my do's and do nots smile although I'm under on calories, but had too many carbs. I actually feel a bit carbd out. I really need to look at what amounts I have left at the end of the day, so I can work out what I can and cant eat, could of gone crazy with protein!!!
plaingirly I'm going to go to power pump tomorrow, first time in about three years... We will really see unfit then!!!
I decided to forgo the pub quiz with the free alcohol winnings. Free alcohol + trying to lose weight for Xmas = not a good combo!
I just joined this thread the other day so sorry for playing catch up....
Vivid -
I'm glad your toe cramps have gone. My mum gets toe cramps and apparently they could be a sign of needing more magnesium. If you find you get them again, give magnesium supplements a go. (Or eat grapes - they have lots of mag. apparently!)
eumachia Mon 26-Nov-12 22:25:57
Hi there - just seen this thread - would really like to join, so also playing catch up. Am feeling decidedly as if do not want to look my age (48, nearly 49) so a few pounds off by Christmas would really help, to get back to weight I was when 23. I'm going to start running again - but the weather is awful and I can only ever run in the evenings when it's dark...
VividVanilla Mon 26-Nov-12 22:46:11
Evening smile
Asparagus - thank you for the pointer. thanks
Your poor mum sad
I've been trying to read up on why this is happening (I used to get toe cramps A LOT when I was a child - especially when I went swimming) and then fairly intermittently through my 20s and early 30s. I shall keep your advice re magnesium in mind, especially as I've read that a deficiency of calcium/potassium could also be a culprit - possibly one of many. The source I looked at also said that asthma drugs were frequently to blame (and yes, you guessed it - I DO have asthma sad and I'm on meds to keep it under control). I think that - to a very great extent - if you have a specific medical condition it can kind of result in a domino effect with a whole string of medical conditions resulting.
How good have I been today? Well, I submitted a massive project this evening that's left me with no little time to exercise over the past week or so... Hopefully that will give me some more time to do the things I ought to be doing to my body and mind. I've been fairly good food-wise (haven't clocked it all in to the MFP diary - will try tomorrow) but did allow myself a fruit yoghurt after dinner this evening.
Busy day tomorrow, though, so I dunno hmm
eumachia - hello. I'm about the same age as you: know exactly what you mean. Good luck with it all smile
Time to give the doggies a bed-time cuddle grin >>>>>>>>>
VividVanilla Mon 26-Nov-12 22:47:58
(P.S. spoilt to make your MFP diary visible to other members/friends, you need to go to Settings > Diary Settings)
VividVanilla Mon 26-Nov-12 22:48:15
(I think)
Meggles76 Tue 27-Nov-12 06:41:49
Morning all!
Right I have signed up to MFP after you all mentioning it on here. I don't need to lose weight though the odd vanity pound would be good! More I hope by having somewhere to write down what I've eaten might keep me from the junk!
Reasonable day yesterday food wise. Hot water and lemon first thing, fish sushi for lunch, 2 rice cakes mid afternoon with fruit juice and Coq au vin and greens for supper. This was followed by a fab ice lolly as I had a sweet craving moment!
I was working all day. No exercise. Thinking I might hop to a shred now.
Karbea Tue 27-Nov-12 07:34:05
Morning All,
Welcome eumachia!
I added in using night eye cream last night to my list. Today I want it to be be do resistance training twice a week but my gym only does pump once a week so need to see if the sister gym does it another day, either way it'll be added to my list for today (once a week).
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 07:58:29
Morning,
The new scales arrive today so it's the moment of truth. I'm slightly scared!
Only two more sessions of Pilates left so I will have to think of something else for my 4th session of the weeks.
Today I have both babies sick, so I doubt I'll get much done. However I plan to clean all my makeup brushes, sort out my makeup (could take hours, I have loads!) clean my earrings and wedding ring etc etc. so not really personal grooming but it will help me to look more 'polished' in the long run
Can anyone link me to the princess threads, I have no idea what they are! blush
vividvanilla thanks for the tip re food diary. However they are so bad right now I feel they shouldn't be seen by the public grin I will make them public soon once I sort my diet out
Rockchick1984 Tue 27-Nov-12 09:18:51
Spoilt there's a few princessing threads, here is one of them with the list at the top.
My day wasn't the best yesterday, but then got some fantastic news and had to have a glass of wine to celebrate, which turned into a bottle, which turned into a huge bar of dairy milk (the ones for about £1.50, don't know what size they are) to try and sober me up a bit grin
And despite that, I hopped on the scales and am 0.5lb lighter than yesterday, clearly wine agrees with me!!! Had already drunk 2 pints of water before weighing myself so don't think it's just dehydration??
Karbea Tue 27-Nov-12 12:53:00
Hello,
My gym is a nightmare!! The website said at 10am there was a pump class actually it was a pilates/yoga class oh well, the stretch probably did me good and I enjoyed it, so that's today's 'one small thing' smile
Having a good diet is HARD! After having too many cals on Sunday, too many carbs yesterday, I reckon I'll be too much protein today sad
Tomorrow I'm adding in 6 eggs a week, and Thursday I'm going to add in a weekly pedicure (I noticed how dreadful my nails were in the class... Embarrassing!).
Oh and if you look at what I had for lunch today... You might have guessed I was using things up in my fridge!
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 17:06:14
sad
Meh...I'm not in a good mood.
Bloody hard day today, I love my children but being an expat have definite disadvantages at times, like today. 2 poorly babies, I'm tired, it's cold and I don't speak a word of French so going anywhere is a challenge.
I think I have cabin fever. Or I'm coming down with something picked up from the kids.
Waited in all day for the scales and they arrive this afternoon.
I hate them.
They weigh me 2kg heavier than our old ones. As do they dh.
I really feel like all this hard work and eating is going nowhere.
I really could cry sad and I have
Bollocks!
My target weight for Christmas is so unattainable right now angry
Wait to forget it and stuff myself with all the m&s goodies in the cupboards. Come and me not too.
Sorry for the self indulgent post blush
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 17:07:05
So many typo's, I hate my I phone too angry
eumachia Tue 27-Nov-12 17:14:56
Hello,
Thanks, VividVanilla and Karbea -
spoilt I know how you feel - I have failed miserably on my first day (weighed myself this morning and was 2kg more than was expecting so ate lots... have lots of work and car ferrying to do tonight too) but am going to do it from now... grin
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 17:47:18
I really don't understand it though, that's what makes me so angry!
I do so much exercise, eat below my target...meh.
Dh is reasoning with me by saying that I haven't put on 2kgs, just the scales are weighing us both heavier. So I was never 62kg at all. I have still lost 4.5kg but my starting weigh was just two kg heavier than I thought in the first place!
However it means I want to lose a stone (going by the new measurements) so I won't pig out, I'll have some fruit now and just work as hard as I can. I'm going to get some bleach for my eyes so I can forget seeing 64kg!!!
Onwards and upwards
Karbea Tue 27-Nov-12 17:57:41
Oh spoilt ((hug)), I do really feel for you I can't imagine how it feels being somewhere where people don't speak English, so frustrating sad
And how very dare those naughty scales!!!! Although just think now at least you know they are accurate, mine jump about all over the place, and really it's how you feel rather than what you weigh. When I was a skinny Minnie I never weighed myself I didn't have to, so if I went up or down a few pounds I'd have never have known.
Don't be hard on yourself, why don't you set yourself a beauty task for today rather than a diet one.
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 18:26:53
Thanks karbea
I know it's just the lack of sleep talking and my hate of France blush I get days like this.
It's hard having no friends, well I have friends of course but not really here due to it being a very short stay. We move again in march.
Sometimes I just want somebody to rant too, or to moan too...
Anyways, kids are in bed. Fingers crossed we get a few hours. I'm going to do the things I mentioned earlier. Clean jewellery etc. I might get to paint my nails too smile
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 18:58:56
I am a twat excuse the language
I didn't zero the scales before I stood on them blush
So I'm back to 62!!! grin
The scales are spot on, it measure fat, BMi and all the other stuff.
Happy now smile
Karbea Tue 27-Nov-12 19:40:42
Haha! Glad they are ok.
I don't have any friends near me either, I know it's not the same as a whole other country but I get how you feel. At least you have babies which makes it easy to make new friends in a new place.
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 19:45:02
I'm 61.9kg grin grin grin
This is the lightest I've been since before kids. I was about 60kg before first was born. 58kg in my hay day wink
Spoilt is back on track!!!
Having no friends sucks sad but you are right, the kids seem to be friend magnets grin I think I'll feel more settled after the next move as I know it's at least three years
Karbea Tue 27-Nov-12 19:53:54
How did you loose 0.1kg in 45mins???? Haha!
Spoiltexpatbrat Tue 27-Nov-12 20:04:06
Took my belt off wink
Karbea Tue 27-Nov-12 22:02:24
Right evening round up!
Week 1 : no alcohol, no choc/crisps, no caffeine, ran, portion of fruit with breakfast, body brushing, flossing and mouthwash
Sunday : my fitness pal
Monday : night eye cream
Tuesday : weekly pilates/yoga class (would like this to be 3 times a week ideally)
Hi. just checking in.
I weighed myself about 3-4 weeks ago and I was just shy of 11 stone (5'5", size 14 top, size 12 bum.I'm 46)
A bit confused and Need To Sort Things Out.
Been off the chocolate for over 2 weeks now sad but I'm now 10.7 (so lost half a stone grin )
And had my dental crown done (will need further treatment in New Year, but fine for now -phew)
Onwards and upwards.
Need to get the hair sorted out now.
Spoiltexpatbrat Wed 28-Nov-12 14:13:58
Half a stone??? envy
Well done! What an amazing start!
Karbea Wed 28-Nov-12 14:16:22
Well done 70isa I've been amazed how quickly the little things start to pay off and once you start doing one healthy thing you actually dont fancy the unhealthy stuff so much.
Big test for me tonight though, out for dinner... will probably have a drink (first since 11th November), going to really try to have no more than two.
I've got
Calories 813
Carbs 137
Fat 18
Protein 25
left of my allowance left today...
We are eating here anyone want to pick out what i should eat? I'm not very fussy but cant eat prawns!
plaingirly Wed 28-Nov-12 18:38:08
Just signed up for mfp - I am plaingirly on there too!
Waaaaaay over on my fat and I never realised how bad Graze snacks are!! Thought they were healthy but loads of calories and fat.
Spoiltexpatbrat Wed 28-Nov-12 21:03:51
plaingirly added you smile
Is that you in the profile pic? If so you are anything but plain! You are gorgeous! And please don't listen to the bloody nurse regarding your weight. Silly woman she is. I'm 5'3 so only a little taller than you and there is no way on earthy body would look good at 8.2 stone. I look best about 8.13 -9.2 stone. Any lower and my mum lectures me on how ill I look! grin
Just had training, we did loads of boxing. It was fab! She said I have the strongest punch she has ever seen on a female!
Nails painted red tonight.
I'm going to learn how to use my heated rollers this week. They have been in the box since buying them in 2008 blush
Spoiltexpatbrat Wed 28-Nov-12 21:05:14
Karbea, hope you are enjoying your meal, the restaurant looks lovely
plaingirly Wed 28-Nov-12 22:13:49
That is me in my picture - generally very camera shy! Your profile pic is fab!!
I can't do heated rollers - I curl my hair with this method - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYxS1ohz4Ao
Can't really imagine what I would look like at that weight! Will be interesting to see the changes though!
Spoiltexpatbrat Thu 29-Nov-12 18:29:09
Have we all gone AWOL? hmm
Today I walked to the post office pushing the double pram and carrying a massive bag of gifts. The pavements here are terrible so added to the work.
We then came home and dd covered my face in sudecreme, she must of read this thread grin anyway I looked like an extra in the twilight movies...but I discovered it makes an excellent base for foundation. It really is amazing. Try it!
Eliza22 Thu 29-Nov-12 19:01:56
Nope.... I did my Couch to 5K. Did the water/vitamins. Fell apart with a piece of friend's birthday cake! Oh we'll. that's Real Life, isn't it?
plaingirly Thu 29-Nov-12 19:33:07
I am about! Love MFP - can see it being really helpful!
Walked to and from work today - fast, had a bit of a dance about and did some exercises with weights. Not really got room to do a DVD but have some dumbells.
Waaaaaay under on my calories today. Not on purpose but the salads I buy for lunch only have 20 cals before I add in meat / toppings.
VividVanilla Thu 29-Nov-12 21:41:12
I've just had three slices of pizza and two Topics blush
Food diary? What food diary? grin
Rockchick1984 Fri 30-Nov-12 00:11:31
Oooh Plain what are the 20cal salads??? I'm doing rubbish sad
Eliza22 Fri 30-Nov-12 08:26:16
VividVanilla... Thanks, I feel better now, giving in to a piece of birthday cake!
AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 08:44:02
Morning all!
I've not gone AWOL....was on the specifically weight loss thread too but v keen on general fabulousness too!
Eliza, is it your birthday? Happy bday if so!
Seems I've lost 1.5 since the start of the week, which makes me happy...! (It's the small successes.... smile )
AsparagusFern Fri 30-Nov-12 08:45:03
...1.5 pounds, that is, not stone! wink
plaingirly Fri 30-Nov-12 13:00:29
I eat the Tesco Bright Side Salad - only £1! Then I add to it.
75g = 20 cals!
I think there are 3 types to chose from - in plastic bowls.
Spoiltexpatbrat Fri 30-Nov-12 21:23:46
Another double exercise day!
Zumba and then training. More boxing! I'm aching...
Plaingirly I hope you enjoyed your shopping spree. I miss my sister, I love doing her nails, makeup and stuff. Have fun experimenting
But not the colours so much
Karbea Sat 01-Dec-12 05:42:45
Hello,
In the last few days I've stopped all my good work sad rubbish! All starts again tmr. Feel blurgh was all going so well too sad
Oh Kareba sad.
Dust yourself off and tomorrows another day.
(I had a good day today- pulled my jeans on and went to do them up- and they were already zipped up and buttoned wink )
Karbea Sat 01-Dec-12 16:19:58
Arr today's been a mare too, we had TgIs for lunch, I'm down in the dumps sad I reckon I'll realistically start again on Monday. Boo!
Spoiltexpatbrat Sun 02-Dec-12 09:30:25
Karbea, a couple of bad days aren't going to undo the last few weeks. Still a couple of weeks to go so you can get back on track smile
Karbea Tue 04-Dec-12 07:33:45
Right! I'm starting again, I feel so rubbish in myself after falling off the wagon!
So had no alcohol yesterday, no choc/crisps today...
Karbea Tue 04-Dec-12 21:51:56
Had a twix today sad argh why am I finding it so hard to get back into it again :S
plaingirly Tue 04-Dec-12 22:17:31
Are you on MFP Karbea? I have found that logging everything I eat has really helped me!
Karbea Tue 04-Dec-12 22:45:00
Yes, I was before I fell off the wagon!
Have entered everything I can remember from today...
Eliza22 Wed 05-Dec-12 08:47:28
Ok, so it's not a massive weight loss but.....
So far, doing the Couch2 5k (and I've needed to repeat week 1 'cause frankly, it nearly killed me) and the India Knight (go organic/NO low fat or "diet" products) I have lost 4lbs, an average of 2lbs per week.
I'm very pleased with myself!
I eat fairly organic anyway but have chucked out low fat spreads, low fat yoghurts, low fat cheese etc. Have cut down (though its the wrong time of year to cut out) carbs. Still love a chicken tikka masala but eat HALF of the portion I'd normally devour. So, I don't feel like I'm "giving up" and therefore craving, anything.
In the past, I've always "gone on" diets, lost weight and relapsed. It'll take me some time, like this, to lose the 14 - 18 lbs I'd like to lose but, frankly at 50 I'm fed up with traditional "diets". I don't have a huge amount to lose but it's the difference between getting into over half the clothes in my wardrobe comfortably and not feeling sluggish/tired all the time and NOT.
Oh, and red wine? Not giving it up but have cut my consumption by half.
Rockchick1984 Wed 05-Dec-12 09:17:13
Well done Eliza!! I can't afford to eat all organic, but never buy low fat or low cal equivalents of things - they never taste as good and it's far better in my mind to have a smaller amount of a real treat rather than a bigger portion with half the taste smile
I had a few blow out days, a few good days, and overall I've lost 2lbs... Utter rubbish but at least it's an overall loss I suppose!
Eliza22 Wed 05-Dec-12 09:31:40
Yes, have to say, I saw a big difference in my food shop bill and I was already buying organic eggs/bread etc. But, find myself using smaller amounts because it costs more!
Well done Rockchick, 2lbs loss is better than a gain in my book smile
And when I see all the supposedly diet foods on the supermarket shelf I wonder, why are we gaining so much weight? A dietician friend I worked with said to me years ago that taking fat out of a food to make it low fat means that the sugar content is higher and it's the sugar (converted to fat by the liver) that's laid down as fat by the body. Think I've got that right!? Any dieticians a out there?
Karbea Wed 05-Dec-12 15:22:32
Afternoon all. I don't know why it is, but I agree I've heard low fat foods aren't that great for you, full fat is better.
I finally ran this morning!!! And I've eaten pretty healthy so far today smile
Eliza22 Wed 05-Dec-12 15:51:40
I'm doing the Couch to 5K Podcast thing Mon to Fri. Weekend's off. If I only did it the recommended 3 days, I'd get nowhere because I was doing more than that at the gym. Have this week frozen gym membership because frankly I'm bored by it and made ANY excuse, not to go! Much better out in the so-called "fresh air"!
Spoiltexpatbrat Wed 05-Dec-12 16:22:25
I'm down to 60.3! Had a couple of days where due to sheer tiredness I ate pretty badly. I have four days of training lines up. Started yesterday with personal trainer, she is here again tonight.
Treated myself to new trainers and work out stuff. smile
I really want to be under 60kg to go home in dec. I was 66kg last time family and friends saw me
Eliza22 Thu 06-Dec-12 12:44:10
Too cold to run but.... MADE myself do it. Now feel quite smug. Two poached eggs on organic wholemeal for luncheon.
Not really a "diet" is it?!
