I love polishes, I'm not a fan of make up, but nailpolish is the equivilant of shoes, or jewellery. It finishes an outfit.

Today I am wearing Essie school of hard rocks, an ace dark teal. With a barry m yellow topaz glitter topcoat. The topcoat looks like models own, but is half the price, from superdrug, buy 2 get a web or croc effect free. And the essie came from cheapsmells.com

LulaPalooza Mon 15-Oct-12 18:51:38

Essie Chinchilly with a top coat of Avon Nail Experts 24k Gold Strength which adds just the teensiest bit of sparkle.

Thank you for the info re cheapsmells. I LOVE Essie nail polish.

3mily Mon 15-Oct-12 18:52:45

Inattendu - Chanel. I bought it today as fancied a new nudey colour smile

I love that Essie one, it may have to be added to my ever growing collection smile

wasabipeanut Mon 15-Oct-12 18:54:44

I have a lovely dark navy ( no 7 I think) with a sparkly silver by Estée Lauder over the top.

SilkandSteel Mon 15-Oct-12 19:05:46

Essie Sand Tropez bought in Boots

Pinot Mon 15-Oct-12 19:14:28

OPI My Private Jet. Delicious charcoal grey shot through with flecks. I love it a ridiculous amount.

Stevie77 Mon 15-Oct-12 19:15:23

Sally Hansen's Flirt which is a dark berry shade with a little bit of shimmer on very short nails. I always make such a mess applying dark polishes!

SilkandSteel I've got Sand Tropez too, a lovely shade but not one if Essie's best as it needs three coats to look right, which I find annoying.

HotDAMNlifeisgood Mon 15-Oct-12 19:15:52

OPI My Private Jet here too

MrsEddChina Mon 15-Oct-12 19:17:15

I love Avon nail polish at the moment.

Pinot Mon 15-Oct-12 19:19:48

yay HotDAMN what great taste you have ;)

issimma Mon 15-Oct-12 19:24:27

Where's a good place to buy OPI from? I love 'bubble bath' for everyday, and also MAC 'girl trouble' for a bit of sparkle.

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose Mon 15-Oct-12 19:31:33

I'm wearing opi ink at the moment but about to change it to opi shorts story which is a perfect bright pink shade! I order or buy at John Lewis or order online from the opi website.

EdithWeston Mon 15-Oct-12 19:33:57

I go for Avon too. I have teal on toes and a good shimmery quick-dry nudish one on fingers.

Meggles76 Mon 15-Oct-12 19:34:07

Ruby red by Rimmel on hands and feet. I don't spend much on varnish

shellyf Mon 15-Oct-12 19:37:36

Red gel nails courtesy of my nineteen year old dd.

BumsyClugger Mon 15-Oct-12 19:45:11

I am wearing a cheapo 99p plum type colour from Tesco, that I grabbed when I fancied some purple nails while doing the shopping one day. None of the more expensive ones had a purple so I thought for 99p it won't matter if it's rubbish. It is actually really good.

I painted my nails last Tuesday, with a matt top coat and have very minimal chipping at the very tips of some of my nails. Amazed at my bargain; all other nail varnishes chip badly off my nails within a day or two.

BumsyClugger Mon 15-Oct-12 19:47:21

Oh, and thanks for the superdrug info! I love the Barry M deals grin

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Mon 15-Oct-12 19:51:05

buyapowa has regular deals on opi. I change my polish almost every day, depending on what I'm wearing. just got some brushes to practice fancying them up.

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Mon 15-Oct-12 19:53:16

I got the web effect in an ace bright orange, tried it over their teal (which is more of a turquoise) and its fab. I'm going to grab the croc effect on weds.

crispychicken Mon 15-Oct-12 20:15:46

On my fingers, I have Ciate in Dangerous Affair which is a dark berry/burgundy colour with an accent nail of OPI Nicki Minaj Metallic 4 Life, which is a dark grey with silver glitter. Love these together, they look ace.
On my toes I have Ciate Mojito, which is a minty green and then another OPI glitter topcoat, which is green glitter, forgotten its 'proper name'!!
Love a bit if glitter!!!

Stevie77 Mon 15-Oct-12 20:26:51

Kind of relevant - can anyone recommend a good top coat? Not happy with mine. Went for a cheap and cheerful Barry M one and it doesn't do a good job. Just a clear regular one, no special effects smile

LulaPalooza Mon 15-Oct-12 20:54:41

I use Seche Vite simply because I am too impatient to wait hours for my nails to be properly dry. I've tried the Sally Hansen quick dry top coat but it's not as good as SV.

People have very mixed opinions about SV. It has some quite nasty chemicals in it and it's not recommended if you're pregnant. I make sure the windows are open.

Some people complain that it causes shrinkage but I've never seen that... mainly because, like BlameIt I change my polish at least every other day.

<obsessed with nail polish>

Stevie77 Mon 15-Oct-12 23:25:05

I heard about SV, didn't realise it was so harsh. Hmmm...

Sagelyhaunting Mon 15-Oct-12 23:28:08

Hands: Chanel Rouge Noir (Present)
Feet: Maybelline-dunno the exact name but it is blue and has stained my nails angry I'm not too sure about the colour, but I think it would be better with a tan than on my dead grey feet smile

3mily Mon 15-Oct-12 23:29:53

I love Seche Vite. It does smell a bit toxic but I like the quick dry time the glossy effect and that my nail varnish stays chip free for well over a week (if I don't get bored before then!)

<obsessed with nail polish too smile>

EuroShopperEnergyDrink Mon 15-Oct-12 23:40:59

Every Christmas for the past 5 years I've received beautiful Nails Inc set from my auntie. Very good quality, lovely nail varnishes that last ages- but they're never the right colour.

I like red nail varnish for everyday, either a garnet colour or postbox red- and these sets never have a red in them despite it being Christmas! They are lovely, lots of bright neons and pinks and purples and blues and greens and glitter- but it's just not me. They get an outing in the summer months on my toes through flipflops, or if I am seriously outfit planning and paint them raspberry pink to go with a certain jumper confused

So I have probably about 50 gorgeous Nails Inc pots in a variety of gorgeous colours but as they really don't suit me and my style, I'm wearing a manky old Barry M red one which is starting to bubble...(my day to day budget does NOT stretch to Nails Inc!)

Im wearing a new Barry M magnetic polish in Red Sparkle.
Don't like crackle top coats but love the magnetic effect ones.

Also wearing white polish with various sparkly top coats from Models Own this autumn.

I love nail polish too!

Jaeme Mon 15-Oct-12 23:51:35

French manicure with OPI alpine snow & tutti fruitti tonga. I only wear colour on my toes (OPI koala beary at the moment)

valiumredhead Tue 16-Oct-12 09:16:31

Starkers by Leighton Denny.

I buy from ebay.

wildfig Tue 16-Oct-12 09:34:03

No7 Thunderstorm, which is a deep purplish-grey. With SV on top it's lasted for nearly a week. There are some really nice new colours in the revamped No7 range, and they're £1.50 less than before.

(Boo to the new '£3 off cosmetics, but £5 off skincare' voucher, though.)

Paintyourbox Tue 16-Oct-12 09:34:51

Take a bow by Leighton Denny. It's a lovely slate grey colour.

Toes are a deep, wine/red Nails Inc colour.

I buy from QVCUK.

QueenCadbury Tue 16-Oct-12 09:39:20

Love nails inc Kensington caviar topcoat.

Currently wearing rimmel blackcherries on my nails. I love winter colours.

PerryCombover Tue 16-Oct-12 09:50:37

Rouge noir on toes
Dull Dior nude on fingers

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 10:25:05

Gellux in Magenta Rocks

Chocchip88 Tue 16-Oct-12 10:33:38

There is currently (not sure how long it lasts, worked on Friday) a code for 20% off OPI at Lena white. Code is OPIVIP
I'm currently wearing OPI Strawberry Margerita, it's a soft but bright pink. Not very autumnal!

The3Bears Tue 16-Oct-12 10:38:37

I am wearing Essie Ballet slippers, yesterday it was Essie Sand Tropez smile I also use Seche Vite topcoat only just been able to use it again as Im not pregnant now grin I need it to make my nails dry quickly before I have to feed ds2

The3Bears Tue 16-Oct-12 10:40:44

Oh and I buy my essie from Boots and its 3 for 2 atm, currently have 6 in my basket but dont have the guts to order as last week I purhased 2 By Terry products so I think dp may actually leave if I purchase more cosmetics grin
I prefer the ones at Boots the formulation is thicker and the brush is just the right size for my nails.

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 10:51:27

I found the No7 Quick Dry Topcoat to be just as good as SV, and not as smelly or toxic. Which is odd as I don't rate the polishes themselves very highly (haven't tried new range).

I buy from ebay.

My best purchase recently is a Leighton Denny crystal nail file. Guaranteed for 25yrs and it's superb - I can saw back and forth and it seals the nail plate so no cracking and splitting. I've never got the hang of just going in one direction like you're supposed to with normal emery boards.

Today is Chanel Delight, a gorgeous gold/bronze as I'm wearing chocolate and cream tones.

I love nail polish, just not the 'effects' versions - I like classic, chic nails.

valiumredhead Tue 16-Oct-12 10:53:41

That's interesting pinot - might spend my next voucher on it.

Is the LD file better than other crystal files?

BirdyBedtime Tue 16-Oct-12 10:56:50

My first ever Shellac - Terracotta - and loving it. Had it for 10 days now and still going strong. When I do my own nails even with a top coat I'm lucky to get 3 days so well worth it. I've never bought anything other than Rimmel or No7 though so that might have something to do with it. How much are Essie or Opi that you are all singing the praises of??

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:06:15

birdy it won't, shellac is a hybrid, not nail varnish, no normal nail varnish will last as long - once you go gel, you won't go back!

theodorakis Tue 16-Oct-12 11:11:07

clear OPD nail envy. Giveing them a break. Nail Envy is the best stuff ever.

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:12:07

val, I've only ever used cheapy crystal files before now and there's no comparison. I bought the LD one as it won the QVC best nail product award beating Nail Envy for the first time in years, so I figured it must be good. It's superb, utterly superb.

I don't use gels as I like changing my colours smile

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:12:37

YY to Nail Envy being amazing. I use it as a basecoat every time now.

valiumredhead Tue 16-Oct-12 11:19:22

Oh you have convinced me. I use a Barbara Daly one atm but my nails split like crazy still.

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:20:33

Pinot, so do I, change once a week ;)

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:20:51

and btw that nail file sounds amazing???!!!

valiumredhead Tue 16-Oct-12 11:21:28

Fuck it, I'm ordering one now!

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:22:15

I got mine cheap off ebay - came in the aluminium case still. I'll see if I can link.

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:23:41
MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:23:42

it's 12.50 on the official ld site, how much on ebay? grin

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:25:12

£11.99 free del. Not much cheaper then. Huh.

valiumredhead Tue 16-Oct-12 11:25:18

Tenner on Amazon with free P and P grin

TheLazyGirl Tue 16-Oct-12 11:26:11

I'm trying a new one from a very new brand (run by two women online) called "Killer Colours" in a really light pink. It reminds me of in my teens (so about 1995/6) when Tippex brought out tippex in baby pink and blue that had a hint of the white to it. Lush, and goes in really thick.

I generally buy nail polish (when not being sent it for my blog!) from the 99p Shop! shock Terrible I know! But I find you get colours from the US that they dont stock here.

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:26:42

I feel diddled grin

I love the way shellac/gel lasts (as I am terrible for chipping my nails within 2 minutes of doing them) - but I HATE having to get it off again once my nails have grown! Only just managed to get rid of the last lot, so bare nails atm.

I like Nails Inc. though (especially when they're reduced or free with mags!).

Am coveting one I saw in a magazine (but can't remember the name right now) - sort of midnight blue colour with little gold/silvery sparkles.

I must try the No.7 topcoat too... anything to stop me chipping them!

fluffiphlox Tue 16-Oct-12 11:27:42

Bio-sculpture short gels in a very dark brown (similar to Rouge Noir but much more stable and longlasting) . Getting loads of compliments.

valiumredhead Tue 16-Oct-12 11:28:25

Just ordered one. Pinot will compare notes when it arrives!

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:29:18

christ, another "thing I saw on mumsnet that I have to have"..........

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:30:19

honestly, amazon are making a fortune out of me, it's the 7th thing I've ordered this week......

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:30:23

grin When it's full of nail dust, just rinse and it is good as new.

Pinot Tue 16-Oct-12 11:30:55

ooOoo dark brown sounds nice. Like chocolate?

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:31:07

just ordering mine - baaaaaaaaah

valiumredhead Tue 16-Oct-12 11:32:17

Baaaaaaaaaaaah indeed grin

MissFoodie Tue 16-Oct-12 11:34:08

wonder if it'll work to break seal on gels.........

fluffiphlox Tue 16-Oct-12 11:36:26

Like chocolate but with the hintiest hint of maroon.

foofooyeah Tue 16-Oct-12 11:43:10

Very dark red gelish - my first time with gels/shellac and loving it. Nails so shiny still.

LulaPalooza Tue 16-Oct-12 11:43:21

TheLazyGirl what's the URL for your blog? Am obsessed with nail polish/ beauty blogs, would love to read yours.

TheLazyGirl Tue 16-Oct-12 13:53:46

Well, mine is more of a mixed review blog, but if you want a purely Nails blog, then you can't beat my good matey, Glowstars.net

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose Tue 16-Oct-12 16:22:42

Today I am wearing opi ski teal we drop a lovely dark teal colour I love it grin

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Tue 16-Oct-12 16:30:16
valiumredhead Wed 17-Oct-12 13:03:26

Crystal file has just arrived! Quick service or what?!!

It's fab - no comparison to cheaper makes, will be interesting to see if using it helps my nails to stop splitting.

Pinto thank you! I forgive you for wearing BB shimmer brick wink xxxx

valiumredhead Wed 17-Oct-12 13:03:54

Ha ha ha PINOT I mean not Pinto!

Pinot Wed 17-Oct-12 13:56:16

grin <clutches SB to bosom>

NettoSpookerstar Wed 17-Oct-12 14:34:05

Just ordered one of the nails inc magnetics, as the Barry M didn't work on me.

MissFoodie Wed 17-Oct-12 15:44:36

oh valium...wonder if mine's arrived???

goinnowhere Wed 17-Oct-12 16:00:25

Dark green. I have just started using cheapo collection 2000, and am very impressed. Two coats plus Rimmel top coat and we are on day 4, chip free.

hugandroll Wed 17-Oct-12 16:20:55

Ladies who are obsessed with nail polish, why does my nail varnish peel within 24 hours of application? I've used all sorts, with top coat, with base and top coat, with nothing and whatever I do the same thing happens. It must be my nails but what?

HoopDePoop Wed 17-Oct-12 16:25:53

Fingers: Essie Tea and Crumpets. V nice nude with a bit of shimmer.

Toes: Rimmel - bright red, called London Bus I think.

MissFoodie Wed 17-Oct-12 16:28:48

hugandroll does it happen with all brands? and do you have oily skin?
nails secrete oil which is what makes varnish unstick (eventually), maybe yours are particularly oily?
you could try drying them with pure acetone (wiping some over them with cotton wool) before applying a base coat?

hugandroll Wed 17-Oct-12 17:04:42

I have quite dry skin missfoodie but I always use acetone free remover with a conditioner. I will switch to one with acetone to see if it makes a difference.

It's happened with every nail varnish I've tried but I am yet to give opi or Leighton Denny a go and my dsis has recommended both so hopefully I will get a routine that's right for me.

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose Wed 17-Oct-12 17:07:11

Bought essie lights today so I shall be sporting this later grin

Mine chip, peel and rub off at the edges within 48 hours max too. That's using Nail Envy as base coat and Seche Vite as topcoat and all sorts of brands of polish. I take the SV over the edges too. I'm also not convinced about Nail Envy, mine still start flaking after a few weeks of continuous nail polish use, so I then have to have a few weeks off to grow out the flaky bits or ignore it and buff them a bit and carry on which is worse in the long run.

THe LD crystal file is fab, I bought one about six months ago and can't imagine using anything else now.

MissFoodie Wed 17-Oct-12 19:17:17

well, precisely why I stopped using nail varnish and switched to gel, then hybrid smile

What's hybrid?

Ah, just googled and found its a salon one, that's not for me then.

Chocchip88 Wed 17-Oct-12 21:17:23

hugandroll mine used to do this, sometimes a whole painted nail would just ping off! I think it's if any oily reside from hand cream or oil is left on the nail. Quickly swiping each nail with nail varnish remover before painting them seems to help.

hugandroll Wed 17-Oct-12 21:23:03

Thanks chocchip I will give that a go because I luffs nail varnish doesn't happen on my bloody toes which look beautiful once you remove the socks and boots hmm

I'll try it too, I tend to leave mine bare for a day between polishes and use a lot of handcream, I get the entire thing peeling off quite often too.

Hopefully Wed 17-Oct-12 21:52:08

Having a lovely read back for manicure tips smile

I am, as of 5 mins ago, sporting OPI Live And Let Die (dark grey/green with sparkle). Nails Inc A&E as base coat and Seche Vite on top.

TigerFeet Wed 17-Oct-12 21:53:27

I'm so jealous, I love nail polish, I'm sadly addicted to Leighton Denny/Nails Inc/OPI on QVC blush

Problem is, I'm not allowed to wear it at work <wail> so don't spend much money on posh polish as it's rare that I can keep it on for more than a couple of days.

I love rouge noir type colours and also LD's supermodel

I'd like to try a real deep navy with a glittery topcoat but not sure it would suit my skin tone - blues tend to make my skin look yellow.

Hopefully Wed 17-Oct-12 22:04:56

Tiger it's only your nails grin. How much negative effect on your skin can it realistically manage? And I speak as a colour consultant.

Saying that, I hardly ever stray away from 'my' colours in nail varnish.

polyhymnia Wed 17-Oct-12 22:09:56

Another Essie Chinchilly here. Get mine from Essie Chanel and Jessica .

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Wed 17-Oct-12 23:10:27

I have just done my fingers in models own pray, a lush brown. I love it.

Selky Thu 18-Oct-12 06:55:43

Versailles Gold from L'Oreal. Did them on Saturday, starting to chip now so I'll have to take action today!

dancinginthemoonlight Thu 18-Oct-12 07:12:35

I love w7 nail varnish. Cheap as chips but better than Opi imo. I've just bought their French manicure kit for a fiver!

I definitely have to stick to my clothing colour palette with nails, which fir me means nothing with yellow tones, I tried coral in my toes last year and it made my feet look grey. I can only wear reds if they are blue-ish rather than orangey. Same with lip colours.

Pinot Thu 18-Oct-12 09:06:07

YY certain tones I can't wear. LD Supermodel for example, made me look like a cadaver.

Hopefully Thu 18-Oct-12 09:36:55

Really interesting about colour tones. Maybe as I am warm but not very warm, the negative effect of bad colours isn't as bad. Although saying that, I would never wear fuchsia/magenta/burgundy nail varnish <ponders>

Pinot Thu 18-Oct-12 09:40:59

Ahh, yes as fuschia/magenta/burgundy are my go-to-girls!

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Thu 18-Oct-12 09:41:36

I cant wear corally tones, red (proper red) or yellow. bright orange is ok, kind of clashy, but peachy definitely not.

issimma Thu 18-Oct-12 10:39:13

I love OPI bubble bath for every day neutral.
Any opinions on nails inc base and caviar topcoat?

Completely agree w the colour chat below - I have corpse nails if I stray from my palette! I'm a summer, but can do more intense Winter colours on my nails.

issimma Thu 18-Oct-12 10:40:16

Oh, and top tips for getting rid of cuticles more than welcome. Can't afford professional manicures, but I obviously struggle to get the same effect.

MissFoodie Thu 18-Oct-12 10:55:34

do them after a bath, use cuticle remover liquid, aside from this, lots of handcream/oil

I've got some Sally Hanson gel cuticle remover which is good, I don't have baths so they don't get a long soak very often. I push mine back with the thumbnail of my other hand, don't trust myself with wooden sticks etc. Regular cream or oil to keep them soft definitely helps.

slug Thu 18-Oct-12 12:23:24

OK nail polish obsessed ladies, can I pick your brains? I'm slightly allergic to nail polish. When I wear it on my fingernails I can feel it there and the tips of my fingers get sweaty. It's an uncomfortable feeling and I never manage more than an hour before I have to take it off. On my toes, however, I don't have this problem. I suspect it's because my toenails are thicker.

So can anyone suggest a good brand to try? I've looked at gels but I'm a bit wary to spend any cash without knowing whether I'm going to be able to tolerate them.

valiumredhead Thu 18-Oct-12 12:40:55

I've heard of being allergic to nail polish - there must be an alternative somewhere.

valiumredhead Thu 18-Oct-12 12:42:06

There you go!

valiumredhead Thu 18-Oct-12 12:42:57

Oh bugger - it's American no good unless you are in the states.

valiumredhead Thu 18-Oct-12 12:44:05
slug Thu 18-Oct-12 13:45:57

Thank you. I will now spend some happy hours tracking these down.

Pinot Fri 19-Oct-12 09:15:01

Chanel Delight still unchipped. I LOVE this No7 top coat. Bargainous!

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 10:35:37

I'm going to buy it today pinot my little shimmer brick - you were bang about the nail file so I trust your judgement now! I hate No7 polishes normally they don't really ever dry, so interesting that it's good.

Pinot Fri 19-Oct-12 11:26:31

YY I hate No7. Think I must have got this with one of those £5 vouchers they give out. It's the Stay Perfect one but they have changed the packaging <GASP> so I really hope they haven't changed the formula <DOUBLE GASP> and it's £1.50 cheaper, across the range.

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 12:58:34

I have just bought the Stay Perfect one - it was £5.50 and I bought it as a 3 for 2 deal woooo hooooo grin

Will do nails later and report back!

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 13:00:11

Oh and I bought a really nice smudgy kohl pencil with a big fat smugger on the end - new from Max Factor. It's fab much better than shite Bobbi Brown there was a grey one but they'd sold out so got a brown one instead and will get the grey one next - very impresses so far!

Hopefully Fri 19-Oct-12 13:04:47

I got stopped by not one but two women at a toddler group today to compliment my nail varnish and ask where it was from <preen>. It was this OPI one.

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 13:07:31

Oooooo has that got a tint of green or grey? Like it!

Hopefully Fri 19-Oct-12 13:23:21

It's a very dark greyish green <helpful> with a teeny bit of sparkle that makes it look much greener in daylight, but it looks quite grey in low light.

Pinot Fri 19-Oct-12 13:24:46

Cor I like that. That is vair me.

<runs to buy>

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 13:24:47

Ooo lovely, yes that's what it looks like to me but you can never tell on screen, can you?

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 13:25:03

LulaPalooza Fri 19-Oct-12 13:46:35

Hopefully our internet software at work has blocked your link on the grounds that it is "Pornography & Adult Material"!! Just how sexy is your nail polish?! grin

LulaPalooza Fri 19-Oct-12 13:49:00

PS today I am wearing Sally Hansen Haute Chocolate which came in this month's Glossybox.

I quite like it but it reminds me of nail polish my Mum used to wear in the early 80s. Very frosted brown/ bronze colour

Pinot Fri 19-Oct-12 13:54:09

Lula grin hahaha

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 13:56:42

Oh FUCK it!!!!!! I have just realised I bought the base coat and not the top coat ARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! sad <sigh>

Oh I bet it's the same stuff - I'll slap it on and see what it's like!

I love some of those OPI Skyfall ones Skyfall. Love the Goldeneye and On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 14:00:15

Oooo I love the Casino Royal one! <wants>

issimma Fri 19-Oct-12 14:00:24

Buyapowa have a deal on the Skyfall ones coming soon (apparently). My inbox awaits grin.

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Fri 19-Oct-12 14:03:05

I NEED this lI like a --lot- touch of glitter.
today I was at the hospital, so I am wearing Ciate wait until dark

valiumredhead Fri 19-Oct-12 14:11:53

Wait until dark looks lovely - the other one looks like the chill mix you get on the tables to Pizza Hut grin sorry!

Pinot Fri 19-Oct-12 14:17:16

Now I LOVE OPI glitters - the full on jobbies, but that Living Daylights is too sparse. I've just watched a QVC OPI show and it applies with glitter speaced out in clear polish. NOT ENOUGH GLITTER <shouts at OPI>

That Ciate looks fabulicious. I want that too, but have just bought another Bond OPI colour - The World is not Enough blush

Pinot Fri 19-Oct-12 14:17:39

speaced? WTF? spaced

Hopefully Fri 19-Oct-12 14:18:24

grin Lula

I am popping into John Lewis again today, may have to inspect the rest of the shades...

Pinot Fri 19-Oct-12 14:22:26

Get the World is not Enough, Lula. Looks ossom.

LulaPalooza Fri 19-Oct-12 19:14:43

Oh my freaking GOD! Have just seen the full collection now an away from weirdo net nanny work computer. I need want them all!

Though I tend to agree that the glittery one is not quite glittery enough

I bloody well love glitter

I am going to start experimenting with franken polishes, I think

LulaPalooza Fri 19-Oct-12 19:16:50

PS I live these threads. As Pinot says... Ossum!

Ooh ooh ooh.... is it wine o'clock yet? Your name provokes a Pavlovian response in me

LulaPalooza Fri 19-Oct-12 19:17:26

Live? Love, obv

Fat fingers

LulaPalooza Fri 19-Oct-12 19:18:55

Lena White 15% off code NEWOCT

Hopefully Fri 19-Oct-12 19:47:07

Ahem. I have totally bought Tomorrow Never Dies (bright royal purple type colour). Am planning on putting it on my nails on Sunday. The World is Not Enough also looked gorgeous, but slightly worried it would make me look like a cadaver with my warm toned skin (after saying that it wouldn't matter too much. Am eating my words).

Also splashed out on Nail Envy, as I need my nails to remain as decent as possible as I am so busy seeing clients atm that I am needing to paint my nails regularly to keep them looking decent. Do you use nail envy as a base coat as well as doing the whole week-long session every now and again?

germyrabbit Fri 19-Oct-12 19:47:51

chanel coromandel as i'm a ponce who likes to spend way too much on nail varnish grin

Pinot Sat 20-Oct-12 09:50:31

I use Nail Envy as a base coat (2 coats) and use it exclusively if/when nails look rubbish.

Pinot Sat 20-Oct-12 09:51:19

hang on ... chanel coromandel is a polish as well as an úber cool fragrance? shock

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Sat 20-Oct-12 10:09:19

I have just bought a nail strengthener from avon! now to find an inexpensive, good topcoat. I reckon I might have to accidentally buy the boots one. and while its 3 for 2....

I like no7 polishes, their totally teal is a lovely dense colour.

cherryboomboom Sat 20-Oct-12 13:50:34

Love having my nails painted, but always feel that my fingers let me down :-(
I have really dry and sometimes cracked (which is painful if I get remover in it) fingers which a lot of the time is eczema, but around the nail edges the skin is really dry, rough and ragged which spoils the look.
Does anyone else get this/got any advice for me?

onyx72 Sat 20-Oct-12 13:56:26

You all know that TK Maxx are selling Essie nail polishes at £10 for three don't you?! I got a sheer natural, deep chocolate and a hot pink in my set.

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Sat 20-Oct-12 14:02:42

Yes, I love tk maxx for nail polishes. My local has nails inc, 3 for £8 as well as essie and opi.

valiumredhead Sat 20-Oct-12 14:04:55

Oooooooo we're off to TK Maxx tomorrow then!

issimma Sat 20-Oct-12 14:06:04

Waaaaah! Me too grin

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Sat 20-Oct-12 14:15:11

Feelunique is good too. I have presented dh with A List. And links to all the colours I like.

My favourite site is fragrance direct though, essie for 1.99

issimma Sat 20-Oct-12 14:36:07

I bought OPI bubble bath on eBay. Just hope it's genuine!

valiumredhead Sat 20-Oct-12 14:37:04

Would be surprised if it isn't - I buy from power sellers - they don't want negative feedback. I get most of mine from ebay.

3mily Sat 20-Oct-12 14:39:08

Dior - Red Royalty. My favourite red smile

Karbea Sat 20-Oct-12 14:56:31

Ive very chipped OPI Lincoln Park After Dark on. Must redo them!!!
I love Seche Vite couldnt live without it, I use Nail Magic too, both with horrible chemicals sad but they both work :S

hugandroll Sat 20-Oct-12 21:21:08

Thank you the lady who suggested I use nail varnish remover just before applying my first coat, my nail varnish has lasted 24 hrs so far which is unheard of. Wearing a very dark navy by Rimmel but will be upgrading the brands I buy from now on to opi and Leighton Denny.

MissFoodie Sun 21-Oct-12 00:38:06

that was me smile
good luck!

Beaverfeaver Sun 21-Oct-12 02:30:30

I love Nails Inc and just got two of their mirror metallic range in purple and blue. Look really striking. It has a sort of 'Flip Paint' effect

ravenAK Sun 21-Oct-12 02:38:25

Illamasqua. In Glitterati.

Normally I'm the queen of cheap nails (Barry M is splashing out for me), but I like to change them quite often so not a problem. But massively converted to the Illamasqua - absolutely gorgeous & lasts a week.

MaureenCognito Sun 21-Oct-12 07:42:04

Today OPI quarter of a cent cherry.
I have them done every week. £5

LulaPalooza Sun 21-Oct-12 13:47:19

Today I am wearing a basic black (Maybelline) with Essie A Cut Above on top.

It is making me very, very happy.

Loving that Illamasqua, raven and that OPI red Maureen. Both veh pretty.

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Sun 21-Oct-12 14:02:10

Sparkly khaki, no7 with barry m orange web effect on top, it looks great.

I love bright red but it doesn't look right on me, I look better with nudes or "kooky" <vom> colours.

Hopefully Sun 21-Oct-12 14:06:50

I have just painted my nails in Tomorrow Never Dies and it is beautiful. Really really lovely and vibrant. Am using OPI topcoat instead of Seche Vite - had forgotten how much I rely on the quick drying skills of Seche Vite though! Have had to redo one nail.

hugandroll Sun 21-Oct-12 21:18:57

missfoodie my nails are still going. Your advice was spot on and I am now free to purchase all the colours I want as they will no longer be ruined after a day grin.

BeauNeidel Mon 22-Oct-12 00:04:10

I've got Essie Lights on my fingers and Action on my toes. The colours are lovely (neon, but not too neon) but the formula could be better. A bit gloopy and they bubbled on my nails.

I utterly love the Skyfall collection and also those Illamasqua ones are beautiful. The last ones I got from there were disappointing but those are just gorgeous.

I have china glaze for Audrey on both fingers and toes at the moment

MissFoodie Mon 22-Oct-12 10:00:42

aaaah well done, good to hear!!!!!

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Tue 23-Oct-12 17:49:16

Oooooooooooooooo cheapsmells has essie from £3,25!

NigellasGhost Tue 23-Oct-12 18:04:43

Elegant, by Revlon.
It's a lovely beige-nude

Hopefully Tue 23-Oct-12 18:27:23

Have to say, Tomorrow Never Dies has been lasting incredibly well - third day today and just starting to chip. Wonder if t's the nail varnish or the OPI topcoat instead of Seche Vite...

Hopefully Tue 23-Oct-12 18:28:14

(FWIW I am incredibly bad at looking after a manicure - 24 hours chip free is pretty good for me).

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose Tue 23-Oct-12 18:31:30

Painting mine opi a grape fit once dd is in bed grin

HoopDePoop Tue 23-Oct-12 20:29:19

Halfway through painting mine with
Essie Beach Bum Blu - hoping it doesn't feel too summery.

Just love the turqoisey shimmery colour - DH says it's how he imagines the Little Mermaid's nails to look grin

Hopefully Tue 23-Oct-12 22:45:48

Ooh, beach bum blue looks lovely smile

Have just re-done mine in OPI live and let die again, really dark without being too gothy I hope. I love it.

Giglet Wed 24-Oct-12 01:06:47

Current fav is Tom Ford Ginger Fire.

Not cheap but it goes on well and lasts.

issimma Wed 24-Oct-12 10:33:22

Just bought no7 top coat <bleats.>.
Waiting for opi to arrive - in the meantime I have no7 stay perfect in a SPARKLY, shimmery pinky purple. I think it's Milan, but the sticker has come off.
I have an old 17 base coat that will do. Will invest in opi if self manicure goes vaguely well.

issimma Wed 24-Oct-12 11:10:46

[[http://www.thesundaygirl.com/2011/11/no7-stay-perfect-polish-milan-review.html Voila - No7 Milan £5.50). I reckon it's perfect for Summers, but stand to be corrected by experts like Miss Hopefully

issimma Wed 24-Oct-12 11:11:07
MissFoodie Wed 24-Oct-12 11:33:25

cock? sounds like an interesting shade grin

JudeFawley Wed 24-Oct-12 11:38:27

Essie 'Master Plan' - lovely it is, with Seche Vite topcoat.

Since Boots have started doing Essie I can't walk past without going in to buy one.

Prior to this, I used to buy Essie in US - much cheaper.

hugandroll Wed 24-Oct-12 12:06:02

I have that no7 shade. Need to do my nails tonight so will update colour later.

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Wed 24-Oct-12 12:27:01

I've had a couple of days without nailpolish to give hem a chance to recover, need to do them tonight though.

starfleet Wed 24-Oct-12 13:03:26

No7 - Thunderstorm on fingernails - a dark bluey/purple, with No7 Topcoat. No7 Beany on toenails which is a Minky colour. I get a bit carried away with those £5 No7 vouchers! smile

issimma Wed 24-Oct-12 14:07:55

My manicure isn't too shoddy at all from afar.

I need to work on my cuticles, and am unable to file nails without filing them completely away, so any tips or links to youtube videos for clumsy people very welcome!

I hate professional manicures, especially the massage bit, but love the end result.

My OPI bubble bath just arrived, and look forward to testing it. Vair classique.

issimma Wed 24-Oct-12 14:15:53

Buyapowa have OPI Skyfall mini set on offer here

MrsGeologist Wed 24-Oct-12 14:47:34

Oooh those sky fall ones are lovely! Can't afford a tenner though (payday next week, bah)

Might be able to stretch if it goes down.

I'm currently wearing Barry M gold foil effects. Horrifically chipped though, as I've had it on since Saturday.

MrsGeologist Wed 24-Oct-12 14:48:56

That essie chinchilly is beautiful too. I might have to purchase it soon.

Hopefully Wed 24-Oct-12 19:04:10

Issima that looks like a great shade for you, Summer lady.

I quite fancy an orangey red, but have my mother visiting so no chance of buying any naice nail varnish tomorrow (she will clasp hands in horror at the price). Have discovered that painted nails is a great way to start conversations at toddler group (we have just moved house) so need to have a good colour by Friday! I have a bright coral Jessica one kicking around, maybe that...

Meta4 Wed 24-Oct-12 19:48:33

Essie Merino Cool, on top of my first Sensationail gel manicure!

brighthair Wed 24-Oct-12 20:31:18

China Glaze Champagne Kisses - just a little glittery blush

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Wed 24-Oct-12 21:42:11

Toes, models own magneta pearl and fingers, nails inc belgrave place. I've ordered loads of essie off cherapsmells, inc topcoats.

ScooseIsLooseInTheHauntedHoose Wed 24-Oct-12 21:53:15

Essie lights on my fingers grin

HoopDePoop Thu 25-Oct-12 12:32:40

Hopefully my mother on law introduced me to Essie's presence in Boots grin

Have you seen Essie Geranium ? It is the perfect (IMO) orangey red.

Conflugenglugen Thu 25-Oct-12 12:36:48

Today: Pompous by Rimmel. Sparkly purple. Luffly!

hugandroll Thu 25-Oct-12 12:43:07

I just bought pompous today and will be using it later smile

Conflugenglugen Thu 25-Oct-12 12:52:03

Two coats needed at least, hugandroll. And a top-coat. Then it lasts on my nails for about a week.

hugandroll Thu 25-Oct-12 13:00:17

Awesome, will do it after kettlebells tonight I love painting my nails and hope it lasts smile

Conflugenglugen Thu 25-Oct-12 13:06:26

Me too - highly meditative (unless I have to go to the loo between coats, which ends up in a slanging match with my zip-fly!).

Another thing I learned which has been really useful in that respect. I'm sure it's common knowledge: submerge your hands in ice-cold water for 20 seconds and it will harden the polish instantly.

Happy painting, hugandroll! smile

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Thu 25-Oct-12 17:15:30

I love painting my nails too.

Dh and ds are buying me a special vanity case for all my polishes for xmas. As well as an urban decay set.

HoopDePoop Thu 25-Oct-12 20:53:09

Ooh Issima that Milan is lovely, agree with that blog that it'd be what Barbie would wear.

issimma Thu 25-Oct-12 21:01:16

hoop It is lovely and lasting really well. Have had one compliment but that was from DM so unsure if it counts.

hugandroll Thu 25-Oct-12 21:35:07

Pompous is so beautiful that when I finished my fingers I got dh to remove my toe varnish so they can be done too grin

Jackstini Fri 26-Oct-12 04:06:46

Ooh Meta - I love Sensationail! Used to have to make gel polish a treat at the salon now I do it all the time.
Currently have Taupe Tulips on fingers and on toes have 1 coat of Scarlet Red topped with 1 coat of Raspberry Wine.
Am very happy you can now buy it direct too as they have new colours coming soon grin

Hopefully Fri 26-Oct-12 07:56:35

Hoop thanks for the Essie Geranium tip. My mother leaves today. I will beeline for Boots afterwards grin

I've been inspired by this thread to dig out my bottle of Pompous, I had forgotton how lovely it is. Just admiring the nails now.

HoopDePoop Fri 26-Oct-12 19:55:44

Update: Rimmel Celebrity Bash for the weekend grin

If they did one called Pooey Nappies or Go The Fuck To Sleep it would be more appropriate for my weekend plans

issimma Fri 26-Oct-12 20:07:05

grin at hoop.
My signature nail polish would be Weetabix Stain or Pampers Delight.

I need to top up mine. I know I should strip and redo, but how bad would it be to put another coat of varnish on over the top coat, and then another lick of top coat?

MrsSJG Sat 27-Oct-12 11:25:59

I went out and bought pompous yesterday after reading about it on here. I agree it's a beautiful colour

GhoulaPaloooooooooza Sat 27-Oct-12 12:24:46

Had a manicure yesterday evening and am sporting a very pretty red from OPI - Deer Valley Spice

Weird name, beautiful colour.

Plus I got a free Nails Inc nail polish with Glamour magazine (DM bought me a subscription for Christmas, bless her). St James

EuroShagmore Sat 27-Oct-12 13:38:12

I am wearing my first ever "effects" polish (yes, I am late to this particular party). It is the Barry M croc effect over a gold base. I love it.

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Sun 28-Oct-12 22:38:58

Ooh, what colour croc?

Today I am rocking the chic and understated look. Essie Brooch The Subject, a gorgeous nude. Only £3.25 from cheapsmells.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket Sun 28-Oct-12 22:49:17

Huge offer on China Glaze nail polishes on the Sallyexpress site - polishes £1.28 and 3 for 2. This may be a glitch & get cancelled but I've ordered 15 a few anyway. Thread on MSE: forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4255575

MissFoodie - thank you! I followed your advice to wipe nails with polish remover before painting, according to this thread I did my Pompous on Friday morning and apart from a bit of wear on the tips, which I can retouch, they are still entirely intact. I used to get 48 hours max without chipping. I can't believe I didn't think of it before.

It probably also explains why I find buffing makes the polish come off even more easily, it will be because I have been painting onto a layer of dust, doh!

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Wed 31-Oct-12 11:59:24

I have done a dripping blood mani for halloween. Opi seraphine base (greyish green) and red tips with splodges (essie size matters) I love it.

Dec glamour magazine has a free nails inc nail polish.

GhoulaPaloooooooooza Wed 31-Oct-12 16:02:39

I'm wearing that freebie Nails Inc today. It's luffly.

You're Halloweenmani sounds fab!

Stila Wed 31-Oct-12 17:03:10

I'm wearing Basil St - I bought a few when it was the Glamour freebie this time last year .

Celticlassie Wed 31-Oct-12 17:57:55

I love Topshop nail varnish - I am currently wearing Hidden Treasure which is lovely

Mrscoghoul Wed 31-Oct-12 21:45:40

None on my right hand, and then a different colour on each nail of my left... I indulged in testing at the Chanel counter today. I love chanel nail varnish, but only have one. I just love the way it feels so rock solid yet a thin coat once it's dry. I've got a lovely subtle pink, then a gold, then a nude, then the famous beige colour and then a dark grey called vertigo. I want them all! Trying to decide which to add to my Christmas list!

buttercrumble Thu 01-Nov-12 16:41:58

Essie , skirting the issue A beautiful deep red.

Just had a quick look at the Skirting the Issue, it's gorgeous

BlameItOnTheCuervForHumanBlood Thu 01-Nov-12 16:57:25

I love essie, not tried chanel, though I've given dh the name of a dior two piece that I need want.

Today I am wearing my glamour/nails inc freebie, motcomb sreet with models own copperpot "flames" and a red dot by the cuticle. So it looks like a fire/night sky. I actually really like it.
