I'm shocked by the amount of fraeks who wear pants over tights

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 15:45:06

er "Hello - this is Lycra calling!"

OR even fraekier - bloody wear two pairs of tights - like a giant human onion.

or tights and spanks - like a vast be-polyestered Wurst

Last night I wore a pair of tights that reached my bra line fgs. that was weird enough

SomethingOnce Sat 06-Oct-12 15:49:03

Sounds unhygienic.

(Or are you American?)

WTF is a fraek?

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 15:52:10

a freak

seeker Sat 06-Oct-12 15:55:19

One pair under+ one pair over=no wrinkly ankles.

Wetthemogwai Sat 06-Oct-12 15:56:15

I'm going out tonight and wearing a pair of spanxs and 2 pairs of tights. And knickers. Go on. Be appalled I don't care because I'll look thin

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 15:56:39

oh god. will you be able to walk?

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 15:57:04

seeker you nut job
just buy a pair that fit

SomethingOnce Sat 06-Oct-12 15:57:42

Knickers first, then everything else in whatever order.

MrsjREwing Sat 06-Oct-12 15:58:05

Why two pairs of tights?

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 15:59:05

i dunno
sometimes i do without the pants altogether.
i am a hosiery nihilist

Wetthemogwai Sat 06-Oct-12 16:07:14

2 pairs because I have fat legs and with one pair you can see the strain on the tights if I only wear one. That and it's more 'pull in' power and warmth as I'll be very cold tonight.
It's like wearing leggings but with feet or the skinniest of skinny jeans

I can't do without knickers, it feels so so wrong and hate the constant threat of camel toe!

usualsuspect3 Sat 06-Oct-12 16:12:08

I have never heard of wearing two pairs of tights. The things you learn on MN.

MrsjREwing Sat 06-Oct-12 16:14:03

Get the next size up tights with a higher denier?

Fimbo Sat 06-Oct-12 16:15:06

Ooh pants over tights I did that when I was a wee lassie of 5. Rather my mum made me, to stop my tights falling down as I was tiny skinny thing way back then, unlike the heifer status I am today.

Fimbo Sat 06-Oct-12 16:15:39

And that well known fashion emporium Primarni do the best tights.

Wetthemogwai Sat 06-Oct-12 16:16:15

Or just buy a packet of cheap ones and wear 2 pairs? It's not uncomfortable and you can't tell!

Wetthemogwai Sat 06-Oct-12 16:17:27

fimbo primarni control wet look leggings are amazing!

MarchelineWhatNot Sat 06-Oct-12 16:18:57

Oh God, I can remember having to wear knickers over wooly tights. It was to stop them falling down as they were all too small and mum couldn't afford to buy me new ones.

LadyStark Sat 06-Oct-12 16:19:15

I wear pants over tights. It helps keep them up! I've tried so many different sizes, brands, deniers etc and nothing stops the sag as well as wearing a big pair of pants over the top.

hugoagogo Sat 06-Oct-12 16:23:55

I used to wear one pair under and one pair over, the over pair became the under pair the following day to save washing. hmm grin

Worn underneath a kilt with a vest attached and a navy polo neck jumper. Good times.

EnjoyGOLDResponsibly Sat 06-Oct-12 16:24:24

I have discovered Oasis 120 denier.

Great fit
Very black, cannot see any transparency at all
Very soft
Wash well

ER rating 10/10

5madthings Sat 06-Oct-12 16:24:36

i have never worn pants over tights! i have worn hold them all in spandex pants and then tights designed to do to same. no issues with tights falling donw.

dd is 21 mths and wear lots of tighs, i put her vest under her tights and again no falling down issues. nowadays tights seem pretty good with the elastic etc, i dont have a fallnig down issue for myself or dd.

Fimbo Sat 06-Oct-12 16:27:10

Wetthemogwait, my dd has the 100 denier ones for school and loves them, they come complete with a gusset presumably for those who don't wear pants underneath, (to be clear my dd does wear pants!) she says it helps to keep them up.

I have the 40/60 denier range and they are good too. I also personally prefer their £3 leggings to the awful pair that I bought in H & M.

Meglet Sat 06-Oct-12 16:29:27

Tights under trousers is weird. I thought people wore pop-socks but it seems some women really do it confused.

5madthings Sat 06-Oct-12 16:33:03

tights under trousers isnt wierd! i do it in the winter when its cold! and it prevent the muffin top issue if you get a good pair that hold you in and go high up, gives a nice smooth line!

Meglet Sat 06-Oct-12 16:40:24

It sounds so uncomfy and itchy <<shudders>>. (I have seam issues)

GreenEyesAndHam Sat 06-Oct-12 17:10:06

I simply don't believe that an ordinary pant has the required muscle to heft up a pair of opaques

alemci Sat 06-Oct-12 17:14:10

i wear tights under trousers when it is cold. sometimes you get a draft up your leg and the tights prevent it. also like vest tops. hate my back getting cold.

never have worn pants over tights though. just not me. don't care if they are hanging down the crotch a bit or wrinkled at the ankle. too bad

Arisbottle Sat 06-Oct-12 17:18:16

I have a linked issue.

I sometimes wear control underwear and find I can't wear tights on top as the tights fall down because of the sloppy material in the underwear. So I have to wear my tights in top.

ggirl Sat 06-Oct-12 17:25:30

I never knew people did this...frankly I am shocked!

why 2 pairs...what's the benefit?

ScatterChasse Sat 06-Oct-12 17:38:43

I've never worn knickers over tights, but I have worn two pairs when it's cold (thin next to skin then woolly over the top).

I wear tights under trousers if it's cold/I'm going to dancing that night without going home first. I once nearly knocked myself out in a toilet cubicle trying to put a pair of tights on, so I'm keep not to repeat that scenario.

We wont mention the day where I wore thin tights, thick tights, thermal long johns and then jeans and two pairs of socks over the top. I was a student and couldn't afford central heating.

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 17:40:57

how bad are your legs that you are all wearing basically leggings as tights?

ThePetiteMummy Sat 06-Oct-12 18:04:22

I feel claustrophobic at just the thought of all those tight layers!

Dd wears pants over tights to keep them up. She's a skinny 8 yo with no hips though!

Has anyone mentioned thrush? All the nylon layers and not a bit of air? grin

I don't know where the grin came from, on my phone, not a laughing matter.

dexter73 Sat 06-Oct-12 18:31:06

That is what I was thinking Toughasoldboots confused

TittyWhistles Sat 06-Oct-12 18:35:14

Tights squinch my bum cheeks when I sit down and give them the itch! But I'd love a pair that came up so high they had arm holes in.

KateShmate Sat 06-Oct-12 18:48:10

I don't do pants over tights, but in the winter will nearly always wear 2 pairs of tights! Just keeps you warmer!
In fact DD1, who is pretty skinny and tiny, wore 3 pairs of tights when it was snowy last year as she was so freezing and the tights were warmer than trousers!

Don't do pants over tights, but I think tights over spanx is surely fairly normal? They do totally different jobs - I sometimes wear them under a fitted dress for work and it wouldn't be acceptable to be bare-legged.

defineme Sat 06-Oct-12 18:59:11

I never have, but I may try it now you've mentioned it. I have 33 inch inside leg and a lot of tights end up round my knees because they're too short. Perhaps this will help.

seeker Sat 06-Oct-12 19:03:14

Dd saw me wearing pants over tights when she was about 14, and when I explained that I do it to keep them up she said "oh, my God- and you never told me! You're supposed to share these women's mysteries with me- you're such a rubbish mother!"

Caerlaverock Sat 06-Oct-12 19:04:11

2 pairs! Fraeks indeed.

I used to wear regulation school knickers over school tights when I was too skinny to hold up tights

seeker grin

So tell me where I can find tights that will fit me and don't cost a bomb. I have 34" legs and am a size 14.
I have to wear boxer briefs over my tights or they fall down.

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts Sat 06-Oct-12 19:17:36

On stage once, I wore spanx and three pairs of tights under a silk nightie. I was a frigging size EIGHT! What the feck I thought I was holding in I have no idea!

Yikes. I've only just recommenced wearing tights at all, and that's while thinking really strong anti-thrush thoughts ALL THE TIME. Two pairs, no way I could think enough.

TiggyD Sat 06-Oct-12 19:38:45

Tan pair of tights underneath black tights on top. Covers up hairy legs. Very popular with some transvestites I hear.

I did this when I was seven but that was only because my recalcitrant mother shrunk my tights in the wash so that the crotch came down to my knees.

How did you acquire this bit of information btw Bonny? wink

Used to do this with my catholic grammar school tights - they were a fetching petroleum blue and had zero lycra in them. Pants over the top only way to retain any dignity. Also only had max 3 pairs so there was a constant round of hand washing the buggers.

Primark did great tights up til 2 years ago but they are less good now. Used to cime all the way up to my armpits and stick like glue. I still have a couple of pairs from yonks ago and they even go over my 21 wk twin PG bump and don't mve all day. Shame the feet have gone bobbly but fine with boots. Might try the oasis jobbies - they sound good.

Charliefox Sat 06-Oct-12 20:22:00

Right, well I've got this far and only just realised that by pants you mean knickers <thick>

CointreauVersial Sat 06-Oct-12 21:14:19

My mum used to wear giant black knickers over her tights, regular ones underneath. Ugh, sweatsville.

I can't bear the feeling of tights under trousers; it just makes me want to itch.

In fact, I prefer Hold Ups if possible. It was stockings and suspenders when I was at school (fnarrr...).

Anyway, who are these freaks of whom you speak, Bonny?

BonnyDay Sat 06-Oct-12 21:15:47

People don't wear tights under trousers do they ?

ggirl Sat 06-Oct-12 21:26:05

yeh people do ..dd does ..for warmth apparently

i would feel trussed up

TiggyD Sat 06-Oct-12 21:32:08

Tights under jeans also stop knee sagging and aid movement. They act as a kind of lubricant betwixt the leg and the jean.

Notcontent Sat 06-Oct-12 21:46:34

I wear tights under trousers when it's very cold.

But I can't imagine wearing pants over tights!!! It would feel so wrong!

Just buy some Falke opaques - they stay up really well and last for ages and ages.

QuinnFabray Sat 06-Oct-12 22:27:04

I was just going to say, sounds like a recipe for a yeast infection if you ask me. I did just suggest pants over tights to my nine year old dd, who has tights issues, and she looked at me like I'd suggested she wear a pair of pants on her head to school.

kaumana Sat 06-Oct-12 22:48:11

Wow, the things I learn on here. Tights over pants, wearing two pairs, under jeans etc. As I tend to avoid wearing tights why anyone would do the above confuses me

cynner Sat 06-Oct-12 22:52:19

I didn't know about double tights, but am currently wearing two bras.

kaumana Sat 06-Oct-12 23:03:17

Two bras? Please elaborate..

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 23:07:00

My young and slender and very beautiful sil is wearing 2 pairs of tights at work atm. She says it is because she is growing her leg hair for a waxing and, as she is dark, they show up through one pair of sheer tights.

Charliefox Sun 07-Oct-12 08:26:37

2 bras is typically for big knockers, to keep em under control.

dementedma Sun 07-Oct-12 08:33:30

Hate tights in any form, but under trousers is just downright uncomfortable and restrictive

FairPhyllis Sun 07-Oct-12 08:42:33

WTF is this parallel universe I have fallen into here? Pants over tights ... tights over tights ... Jesus.

I do wear woolly tights under trousers but that is because it gets down to -30 deg C here.

Pinot Sun 07-Oct-12 10:15:59

You're all mad.

2 bras? The back-strappage must be so bulky?!

noddyholder Sun 07-Oct-12 10:22:20

Itchy. Spanx make me look fatter sausagey. You are what you are just get a good fit.

downday Sun 07-Oct-12 10:24:55

i wear tights under trousers and have been known to wear leggings under jeans when it gets so cold

mercibucket Sun 07-Oct-12 10:25:56

I only wear stay up stockings, much better all round. No thrush, they fit properly, and if you get a hole in one, you just throw one away so cheaper in the long run too

I wear a sports bra over an underwired bra, for sportings. Reduces bounce, innit? Makes me look deranged and slightly like an over-lagged boiler, but hey ho.

ummofumbridge (apologies if I've spelled that wrong!)

Tesco! I've got 34" legs and am an 18. Even when I was younger (and thinner) I've never found tights that didn't need an extra pair of pants to hold them up. Then I tried a pair of Tesco finest/luxury 140 denier XL tights and they were so long they actually stayed up. No baggy crotch at all. Bliss. Not sure what other versions they do though.

I used to live and die in stockings when I was younger - I'd even layer pairs for interesting colour effects, but gave up after I had DS1 - saggy post pregnancy belly and suspenders belts just didn't work.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sun 07-Oct-12 10:54:42

What? What?

Stop the madness.

2 bras? Knickers over tighst? 2 pairs of tights? It must make your legs look like sausages and your fanjo area a dutch oven for thrush growth.

I am a great big tall thing and my tights don't fall down. What are you all doing?

Spanx are a waste of time, just push the fat bits into other areas and are sweaty.

If you are worried about a knicker line showing just go commando.

Fraeks indeed.

ginmakesitallok Sun 07-Oct-12 10:57:41

I sometimes wear two pairs of opaques in winter - means I can wear a skirt/dress and still be cosy. I find the really high denier tights give me funny ankles

getrealandgetalife Sun 07-Oct-12 11:01:07

has anyone mentioned knickers, tights, and then ...... A GIRDLE?

Or am i just showing my age!

PerryCombover Sun 07-Oct-12 11:10:53

God. People are insane

I'm telling you, if I did that 30 day shred without two bras I would be insane.
And possibly concussed.

FairPhyllis Sun 07-Oct-12 11:38:50

I think you all need to buy tights and bras that fit properly.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sun 07-Oct-12 11:49:19

what do the high denier tights do to your ankles?

And how do you avoid our legs looking like tre trunks with two pairs of opaques?

BonnyDay Sun 07-Oct-12 12:06:19

Agree bet the larger ladies are still buying medium and vice Versa.

Caerlaverock Sun 07-Oct-12 12:12:25

Fraeks in 2 bras, get yourselves an snell bra. Not a particularly good look but contains the norms marvellously for running

Caerlaverock Sun 07-Oct-12 12:12:39

Not snell enell

cocolepew Sun 07-Oct-12 12:22:47

When I was younger I was always cold and would wear opaques under leggings.

I now know what I always had thrush blush

PerryCombover Sun 07-Oct-12 12:40:56

I've worn Spanx on two occasion
Once I thought I might pass out and removed them and the other I was unconvinced that they made me thinner just more like a wider flatter sausage

Multiples of knickers, tights, Spanx bras etc means you are buying either the wrong size or the wrong size for that product.
Cos you are normally a medium does not mean you are always a medium Ffs.

I think that there are loads of tights for fatties but fewer for fat tall women.
I had a prob with tights when I was fat and wore opaque stockings instead

noddyholder Sun 07-Oct-12 17:00:23

I am loving all the spanx sausage women! They look terrible you can tell everything is sort of flattened and pushed up down and all around.

jamaisjedors Sun 07-Oct-12 17:20:45

I agree about the medium sizing being misleading. I am 5ft4 and an 8-10 and wear a medium in tights.

I do not need to wear knickers over them to keep them up.

Size up methinks!

TittyWhistles Sat 06-Oct-12 18:35:14

Tights squinch my bum cheeks when I sit down and give them the itch! But I'd love a pair that came up so high they had arm holes in.

YES!! Me too. Are you paying attention Primarni?

I dont think all spanx wearers look terrible or sausagey, but badly fitted ones do. And they don't look right under all fabrics either.

BonnyDay Sun 07-Oct-12 17:28:56

I have 32 inch legs. Size 12. Wear large.

Pinot Sun 07-Oct-12 17:35:07

Pretty Polly have just launched a range for big or tall women called Curves

ReneandGeorgetteMagritte Sun 07-Oct-12 17:43:24

I needed to wear pants over tights as unless I buy expensive ones they are never long enough. I am a size 10, probably 34" inside leg and an L isn't long enough. I can occasionally get an xxl or tall fit, but it tends to cost me lots which I resent.

I tried hold ups instead but the sticky stuff gave me a rash.

Given up now and wear leggings or footless tights with boots.

Or trousers.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sun 07-Oct-12 17:44:40

I wear large as well and am a size 8-10.

I am very long waisted and have found that the best tights for long gusset (what a terrible word) are either primark 1000 denier or whatever or Charnos from house of frase, not too expensive (8 quid) and last forever, I have got a couple of pairs I have had for years.

I don't see the point of spanx - whenevr I have worn them they have been supremely uncomfortable and made my stomach area look odd. I don't think they can give you a flat stomach if you haven't got one iyswim.

runamile Sun 07-Oct-12 17:50:33

When I was a teenager, my mother used to tell me to wear pants over tights to keep them up (this was pre-lycra - can't see the need any more.) One day I wore a pair of loose frilly pants which gradually made their way down to my knees as the day went on. As I was wearing a short skirt at the time, this caused great amusement to the staff and customers in the shop where I was working. I have never done it since.

hugoagogo Sun 07-Oct-12 17:58:11

Well I think that if a 'large' equates to a size 8-10, then something is going very wrong in the tights sizing department. shock

No wonder so many people have trouble getting them to fit.

NorbertDentressangle Sun 07-Oct-12 18:09:58

Don't Spanx just redistribute the flabby bits?

As for all the doubling/tripling up of tights, pants, bras etc.....bizarre

FairPhyllis Sun 07-Oct-12 18:49:56

I am 5'6, size 12 and pear shaped. I almost always buy XL tights (except from John Lewis as they really are XL, I found out) and they are very comfy and do not give me Nora Batty legs.

Ignore the sizing guide on the box - it's always wrong!

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sun 07-Oct-12 19:02:03

I know hugo, but I am very tall so need large for the lenght if not the width iyswim.

HotSlate Sun 07-Oct-12 20:35:42

Nylon tights are just the work of the devil, that's all there is to it. Sweaty, sausagey, riding-downy horrors.

Leggings just work so much better - they stay up, don't make you sweaty - if leggings can do it, why can't tights confused

I wish someone would just make leggings with FEET in and I'd be sorted for stuff I can't wear leggings with.

katykoo Sun 07-Oct-12 20:41:39

When I have 2 pairs of tights with a ladder in a leg, I cut off the laddered leg so I half 2 half pairs of tights. I then put on one leg then the other.. voila! a new pair of tights !

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sun 07-Oct-12 20:44:12

Lol katy I can't believe you do that, that's nuts grin

NorbertDentressangle Sun 07-Oct-12 20:47:12

ROFL Katy -thats a tip you've taken from Viz top tips page surely? Admit it!

katykoo Mon 08-Oct-12 12:46:43

No !! Its true, thought everyone did it... Oh dear..Not sure where I got idea (probably was Viz in my poor student days). My sister does it, I have even introduced it to my 11 year old, she was well impressed. Give it a go girls !

Pinot Mon 08-Oct-12 16:15:13

2 gussets? Not for me <scratches at the very notion>
