I bought it by mistake.
My eyelashes (moribund at the best of times) now look like spiders legs.
What with the coppery brown eyeshadow I put on (another bad choice) I look like I have mud pies flung in my face.
Brown. Brahn . Like a Just 17 makeup tutorial from 1993.
Eurgh. Orrible stuff.
I did the same once (brown was in the black section of Max Factor shelf). I looked like a potato. Couldn't bring myself to leave it on.
Also don't understand brown eyeliner.
Gimme coal black kohl and lashes please.
P.S. You should wear some Rimmel Coffee Shimmer to complete the look.
I wear brahn mascara during the day
I'm quite pale skinned and I think black mascara looks a bit too full on for work. I sometimes wear brown eye liner too, but you can keep the Rimmel Coffee Shimmer
Yes to coffee shimmer.
I look like some hideous throwback to the 90s. I should have a pair of high waisted jeans on with braces and some clumpy shoes.
Brown eyeliner would look ghastly on me. I think it probably looks lovely on some people - but warm brown colours make me look like a corpse.
Black is fine, as is dark grey and very dark green/blue/purple. But brahn - no.
I have also gone a bit overboard on the bronzer.
I look shameful.
This is what happens when you put your make up on on the train without a mirror.
I like brown black mascara <legs it>
i use brown mascara in the day, i have lash extensions so black for work is too full on. i also use brown eyeliner as again black is too harsh on me, even on a night time i don't do black eyeliner.
I nearly always use brown. Very pale skinned redhead with long lashes and black looks way too overdone for day makeup. Black eyeliner would make me look ill.
I've bought black / brown by mistake. That isn't even a colour. I think they scrape up all the left over, rejecty bits from black and brown mascara and mix them together.
black is far too harsh for me so I'm a brown user
they make it for a reason you know ;)
lol at pastabee.
I know it probably looks bloody wonderful on some people.
Not me though. I look like I have rolled in brick dust today.
Me without eyeliner, mascara and my brows filled in.
I think brown mascara is make up for people who don't really like make up.
People who might team it with "just a slick of lipgloss".
If you have had your colours done and are an 'Autumn' (i.e. look best in orange, brown, dark green etc) you should wear brown mascara. Most of us suit black better.
Or so I've been informed
Those are my worst colours Mama. What season are you if you look best in red and jewelly vivid pink, purple and blue?
Most days I sport this kinda subtle eye make-up.
Isn't brown mascara for very pale be-eyelashed people? (I know that's not real but YKWIM?)
From your description, Bunny you sound like you could be a Winter. Winters can wear bright vivid colours.
I am Summer and look best in pale pink, white (not cream), grey, light blue.
Bobbi Brown says that no-one looks good in brown mascara, no-one.
Oh I would look ghastly in orange and brown clothes.
What season am I if I look good in dark grey, red, bright green and blue?
Shit eyes worketh for no man.
Sozzers, Gerrof
That sounds like any season from 1984 to me.
Oooh interesting. Thanks for that
That picture is weird Nola. Love the lips though.
Colour Me Beautiful
Best 100 quid I've ever spent.
Yes, it was Colour Me Beautiful that I had done. It is so helpful - you know you will never have a day where you look ill but aren't ill again. E.g. if I wear cream I look like death warmed up.
Getorf, I'd say winter for you as well.
I wear brown (am a HoC Autumn) and the evidence in the mirror shows it is better on me, despite the fact I am quite dark haired. Have seen a Winter in brown and it looked awful though, kind of grubby. Most interesting is seeing Summers in navy (not 90s electric) blue. You can't really tell why it's better if you don't know what colour mascara they're wearing, but it just is.
My phone keeps autocorrecting mascara to NASCAR.
Has any of you summers tried navy mascara? I read here that it is the biz, not sure who makes it though.
Bobbi Brown also says you should never wear blue nail varnish so she can do one quite frankly
Yes Dollydowser, I have worn navy mascara. It looks lovely with blue eyes.
I look weird with black eyeliner/ mascara on unless i have a full face of makeup, as I am very pale. I definitely look much better in brown unless I really go for it on a night out etc.
Where did you buy it from lottapianos? And how many pianos are we talking?
Good question Dollydowser, I think it may have been No7.
As for my name, I have no pianos, but I am a massive Tori Amos fan - it was the name of one of her tours
Dolly I think there is a YSL navy one. Also HoC do one, but not cheap through the website unless you have a client code.
I have a problem finding decent brown mascara. I have fair eyelashes and black is too dark. If black doesn't suit you it makes you look cheap or like a clueless teenager.
lisaro, my current daytime mascara is No7 Fanomenal in brown/black. It's great, no clumping or spiders legs and gives quite a nice fanned-out finish without looking OTT.
unless you are blonde when black will give you the myra HIndley look
or pauline prescott
I love brown mascara, and eyeliner, and eye shadow..... I look like a tranny if I go all black with any of those....
(no offence to trannies, some of my best friends, etc, but not my look of choice most days).
Now dark PURPLE mascara is the way to go.....
/Thanks, Lotta but even the brown/black is too dark. There's only one they do in just brown, and I have that. I use Clarins bottom lash one, and try any others I can find.
orangina
although I do know exactly what you mean by the 'tranny' look.
I look like a hooker in black mascara during the day
I bought some dark purple mascara a month or two ago. I have grey green eyes and read it was supposed to make them pop. Maybe I went for the wrong shade but I looked so 80s and a few people noticed and asked about it (in a "are you wearing purple mascara?" way not a "wow, you look great" way)
And black eyeliner is a complete no no under the eye as well. That makes me look like a haggard hooker
I like brown mascara, and the BadGal purple one
But i do have nice eyelashes. <smug>
I do wear black but have renounced it for everyday since I got soooooo old <over 45>
I'm a HoC summer and wear max factor brown mascara. I know I should wear navy, but nowhere in town sells it and I'm, frankly, scared of it
.
I'm reluctant to try HOC one, as I found their lipstick pretty abysmal for the price
. Ysl it is
.
I love brown and brown/black for during the day.
I look too harsh in black mascara now i'm old(er)
I aspire to be pauline prescott. [Grin]
Navy blue or dark grey masracara, or black. I hate hate the falsh lash effect, so buy the cheapest crap mascara and just apply one coat to hide the horrible blonde lashes.
I see young girls with clumpy kim kardashian eyelashes and I want to wash their faces.
I look awful in brown mascara. Can get away with brownish eyeshadows (Urban decay naked set)
I've never had colours done properly but I suspect I'm a Winter - pale, cool skin tone with very dark hair (pics on profile)
I am blonde and ghostly pale
i have to wear brown mascara, as if I wear black it makes me look like i should be serving in a chip shop
I'm a redhead with pale skin but quite dark eyelashes / brows.
If I wear brown mascara, my eyes disappear completely. I have to put my glasses on just to locate them.
And yes to also looking like I have been rolled in brick dust if I use bronzer
My eyes are green and so i think i look better with brown mascara and smudgy brown liner.
Getorf..I knew this would be you.
It wasn't No 7 " the Per Una " of the cosmetic world? That still makes me laugh [ grin]
Bobbi Brown won't even sell brown mascara. I use their black but with brown liner for day (am blonde and pale).
I think brown eyeliner may actually be my make up essential even before concealer
I've never tried brown, to many years of black eyelines and mascara means I didn't even realise there was an option. But, what is this purple mascara that you are on about? I might like to try that....so long as it isn't eighties styleee.
too many years
I wear brown for daytime. If I wear black I look like I'm advertising for 'business'. Black is fine in the evening.
By the way Bobbi Brown also says (or used to say - perhaps she's been enlightened since) that everyone has yellow toned skin. Well Bobbi, maybe that's why I never could get any of your foundations to work without looking jaundiced.
Nowt wrong with brown mascara and eyeliner for me.
Pale ash blonde going on white with scandinaviany sallow gold skin and blue-grey eyes. Also use light brown eyebrow pencil.
Black makes me look like a 1940s cheap starlet, especially during the day.
And lippy just makes it worse.
Of course as I live in darkest Wales most everyone else is a pasty celt with very dark hair so I'm a bit of an odd one out.
