www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Boat-Neck-Knitted-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2240586&SearchQuery=asos%20navy%20dress&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=-1&sort=-1&clr=Navy. I've never bought any ASOS brand stuff before, but it's bargainous, 100% cotton, feels so cosy and great quality. Also not as short on me (5'5") as it looks in the picture.

TheBirdsTheBirds Fri 21-Sep-12 12:41:20

HERE. Sorry.

AngryFeet Fri 21-Sep-12 12:43:13

That's lovely. And if I didn't have a bottom the size of Europe I would buy it. Dammit.

MarshaBrady Fri 21-Sep-12 12:43:16

That's very nice! Might be a bit short on me, but great if not.

TheBirdsTheBirds Fri 21-Sep-12 12:46:40

Would the tulip shape not be quite forgiving on big bottoms AngryFeet? It's very roomy on the hips.

trixymalixy Fri 21-Sep-12 12:52:08

Really like that. Does look like it might be a tad short on me, but will give it a go grin

CakeInMyFace Fri 21-Sep-12 13:17:52

Ooo I love that. What's the fit like? Im a 10 in some things and 12 in others. Is it on the small side?

TheBirdsTheBirds Fri 21-Sep-12 14:02:40

Not on the small side, true to size I'd say. If your top half is your bigger bit then you'll be fine with the 10, if it's your bottom half that's sometimes a 12 I'd say get the 12 because it might ruin the shape to have it tight on the hips.

seabuckthorn Fri 21-Sep-12 14:45:35

That's lovely!

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey Fri 21-Sep-12 14:46:34

That is lovely.
Well wear, OP. Am on shopping freeze otherwise would indulge for sure!

cornzy Fri 21-Sep-12 14:47:59

how high is it above the knee on you?

TheBirdsTheBirds Fri 21-Sep-12 15:44:50

Ok, I've finally changed out of my pyjamas at the impressive hour of 15.43 and am wearing the dress. It's four inches above the top of my knee, five if I was to measure from the middle of my kneecap.

TheBirdsTheBirds Fri 21-Sep-12 18:12:42

Another plus point for the dress... DH just came home and said:"It makes your tits look very nice."

He's a charmer hmm grin

mummyonthewedge Fri 21-Sep-12 18:15:59

Can I just say a big thank you TheBirdsTheBirds. That dress totally ticks all my boxes (colour, shape, sleeves etc), and as a result of your post I have bought it in both colours. Thank you

THETrills Fri 21-Sep-12 18:17:30

That's a lovely dress but if it's 4 inches above your 5'5 knee then I think it would be shorter than I would want (thanks for the useful details though!)

CakeInMyFace Fri 21-Sep-12 18:20:25

I think Im going to have to buy this! Thanks for the post op!

SunshineOutdoors Fri 21-Sep-12 20:59:41

Me too! If I see someone in it I'll be looking for other mn signs.... scarf, sock bun etc

QueenBeebread Fri 21-Sep-12 21:14:51

Oh dear, I've accidentally ordered this one too.

pigsmightnevercease Fri 21-Sep-12 21:52:22

Me too! grin

And my finger slipped and I accidentally ordered this to wear with it blush

Elizabeth22 Sat 22-Sep-12 10:06:52

Damn - sold out in my size sad.

TheBirdsTheBirds Sat 22-Sep-12 11:06:37

Mummyonthewedge you're welcome, it's my ideal day dress too!

I suddenly realised I should order the grey one too last night, before you all bought them all!

Sorry elizabeth, maybe theyll get more, or someone on here won't want theirs when it arrives?

trixymalixy Sat 22-Sep-12 11:21:15

Mines arriving in about an hour! What are you wearing with it birds?

TheBirdsTheBirds Sat 22-Sep-12 11:27:45

Right now i'm wearing it with black opaques, fur lined knee high dark brown winter boots, dark green scarf and cropped leather jacket as i'm out for the day. Will wear with my balck suede topshop ankle boots for smarter days. And a tan skinny belt.

Grr angry I really like that dress but I fear it will be too short on me for daywear (5'8")

trixymalixy Sat 22-Sep-12 11:55:20

I'm about the same height as you mrskeithlemon. I shall report back when it arrives.

Tis lovely, will buy next week.
Can't get it now as bought the owl dress yesterday!

SomethingOnce Sat 22-Sep-12 12:18:20

Oh, lovely - good find! Lucky you smile

Exactly what I'm after too, but at 5'10" I think it'd be a bit short on me.

Anyone seen anything similar in natural fibre that comes up longer?

trixymalixy Sat 22-Sep-12 12:20:58

Hmm, DH's first comment was "it's a bit short". I also have quite a long body and the waist doesn't sit in the right place. Shame as the length doesn't bother me too much and it is lovely otherwise.

What's the owl dress?

CountryBelle Sat 22-Sep-12 12:21:57

Lovely ones on celtic sheepskin!!

owl dress

I'm only 5'2, so no chance of it being too short on me.

trixymalixy Sat 22-Sep-12 12:49:32

Some of the girls on the MN vogue have said that the Celtic Sheepskin dresses are a bit shapeless.

The owl dress is nice, but don't think it would suit me.

SomethingOnce Sat 22-Sep-12 12:50:20

Thanks for updating trixy. Between my height and long torso, seems this would be just another ill-fitting long top...

Nice dresses, Belle? I wouldn't have thought of them - maybe I took the name too literally as I imagine it to be all, um, sheepskin stuff in a fleecy sort of way!

SomethingOnce Sat 22-Sep-12 12:54:50

How I envy the OP her cosy, longsleeved, flattering dress in natural fibre envy

Scootergrrrl Sat 22-Sep-12 13:06:37

Can the people who have already ordered it tell me what they're going to wear it with? I really like the look of it but have many dresses which hang uselessly in my wardrobe while I wear my go-to unform of jeans, stripy top and Converse blush. Inspire me then I can buy it - and possibly even wear it!

Sod it, orderedgrin

Pinot Sat 22-Sep-12 14:50:36

Nice dress but I fear us large-titted lovelies would look awful in it. Same with owl dress.

Thanks Trixy grin

I'm still undecided confused

I've never ordered from ASOS before, are they fine about returns anyone know?

orangeandlemons Sat 22-Sep-12 15:16:55

I'd like it with a lower neck. Agree with Pinot

SomethingOnce Sat 22-Sep-12 15:40:44

MissKL I had no probs at all when I returned a load of stuff to ASOS. No guarantee they're always good, of course.

TheBirdsTheBirds Sat 22-Sep-12 16:05:59

ASOS are fine with returns, have been in the past anyway. Free usually I think, and free delivery too.

Just wear with tights and boots Scootergrrl, add skinny belt if you like.... Sorry thats not very inspiring is it smile

TheBirdsTheBirds Sat 22-Sep-12 16:08:12

And yes maybe it is better for the shorter, flatter chested people among us. I will try to consider that with my next dress recommendation!

TheBirdsTheBirds Sat 22-Sep-12 16:16:24

The owl dress is so cute! I can't wear anything with shoulder frills or details though, as my shoulders are broad and I feel like a man in drag grin

I'll be wearing a cardi over it, as my arms are permanently bruised due to medication I take.

3duracellbunnies Sat 22-Sep-12 16:32:46

Love the look of it, but wrong colours for me, anyone seen anything similar in dark pink/purple/dark green?

trixymalixy Sat 22-Sep-12 17:35:38

ASOS are very good with returns usually.

I'm actually considering exchanging for the bigger size and see if it hangs a bit longer in the waist.

I find a slash neck quite flattering and I have big norks.

mummyonthewedge Sat 22-Sep-12 17:56:02

Pinot I have bought it in both colours and will wear it with opaques/leggings and flat shoes (bikers, ballets or brogues), and a denim or leather jacket with a scarf. It is on the short side but with flat shoes and full leg coverage I think it will be ok for mummy day wear.

CakeInMyFace Sat 22-Sep-12 22:55:34

Just bought it. Can't wait for arrival!

MoomieAndFreddie Sun 23-Sep-12 12:10:53

OMG i love that

i might get it in the grey

fraggle73 Sun 23-Sep-12 12:54:02

Would it hide a tummy...

TheBirdsTheBirds Sun 23-Sep-12 20:02:39

I'm not sure fraggle but it does nip you in nicely at the waist.

Hopefully some other people will update once theirs arrive (and hopefully I won't be the only one who likes it grin )

stillwaitingforthesummer Tue 25-Sep-12 17:13:19

Ordered this (in blue) based on this thread and it just arrived. 'tis lovely! Thank you so much Birds for the recommendation, I'd never have spotted it myself. Is surprisingly flattering (I'm 5'2 - so it's longer on me than the model), and a size 8/10 but with a slight mummy tummy, I ordered the 10 and it's great.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Tue 25-Sep-12 17:29:49

I like it, but my boobs would look vast I fear.

I would wear it with leggings, boots and a scarf, or possibly a statement-type necklace and opaques if I was going somewhere smart.

Oneminute Tue 25-Sep-12 19:39:15

Thank you for this. I saw this thread in active convos, ordered the dress that evening and I love it! I am 5"2 and have a bit of a tummy but I think the fact it is drawn at the waist in makes it flattering.

Anything else I should look at? (this is my kind of shopping!)

CakeInMyFace Wed 26-Sep-12 12:59:42

Mine arrived yesterday and I LOVE it! It is really flattering - could use some tips with accessorizing though, am not so good at adding scarves, etc. I'm tempted to get it in the grey too....

Arrived this morning, have just put it on and love it.
Fantastic buy.

TheBirdsTheBirds Wed 26-Sep-12 13:16:32

So pleased most of you like yours! My blue one is in the wash now sad But hoping the grey will be delivered today! Have a feeling I'm going to live in them this autumn, they are so simple and useful.

I'm wearing the grey, with a long cream gilet, the same length as the dress.
It looks nice, well I think so, and I have flat biker boots on too.

I don't think the blue would suit me or I'd order that too.

Owl dress came too, also looks fantastic.
I don't like the flouncy sleeves, but I have no intention of wearing it without a cardi.
I tried it with a cropped black one and it went well.
Have ordered flat brown boots to go with it.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile Wed 26-Sep-12 14:54:43

I just ordered it too. I am easily led!

CakeInMyFace Wed 26-Sep-12 18:35:13

What's the owl dress?

I linked to it up thread, another MN rec.
I need to stop reading these threads, it's expensivegrin

TheBirdsTheBirds Thu 27-Sep-12 10:06:37

If anyone's still umming and ahhing over whether to try the Asos dress, they are doing free next day delivery today. Not that I'm on Asos looking for more clothes... grin

TheSmallPrint Thu 27-Sep-12 10:59:31

I love this dress but they have sold out in my size. I suspect at 5'10 with a tummy it wouldn't suit anyway sad.

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey Thu 27-Sep-12 11:19:30

ARGH so okay despite 'spending freeze' I caved and bought this. Just arrived today and I LOVE it! This is an absolute hero of a dress. Length is perfect on 5'2 me. It goes with pretty much every pair of shoes I own. Only problem is, I can't decide whether it looks better with a skinny belt or without. It looks good both ways. Thank you again to TheBirds!

Blue's not really my colour, but I love the dress so much I went to order it anyway, but it's sold out in my size.
If anyone has the blue size 8 and doesn't want it can they let me know please so I can buy it off them.

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey Thu 27-Sep-12 13:07:52

<clutches blue size 8 to chest>

They might re-stock. You could send a quick email maybe.

thisthreadwilloutme Thu 27-Sep-12 14:02:23

I've ordered one in each color. Might have to stay in tomorrow until they arrive!

Will check daily to see.

trixymalixy Thu 27-Sep-12 16:44:43

I have a 14 in blue that will be going back unless someone is desperate for it as its now out of stock.

PippiL Thu 27-Sep-12 16:49:35

Uh oh, that dress better look good on both tits and arse as my finger slipped and I ordered both grey and blue on the plastic fantastic.

Liked the sound of it being 100% cotton. Dresses like that are hard to find for £30.

I'd say it does make your boobs look larger, not bad on me as a 34b, but it is flattering on the bum.
I'm an 8, but pear shaped, and it is great on the hips/thighs/arse.

PippiL Thu 27-Sep-12 17:11:46

Size 12 with 32Es! But have a smallish waist after having lost a considerable amount of weight and although my legs aren't like a race horse's it would be nice to get them out a bit more.

Damn them and their next day delivery which ended at 5pm. I was under time pressure!

Beingblonde Sat 29-Sep-12 09:27:58

Trixy I have PM'd you about the blue size 14!

I've had so many compliments on this dress.

trixymalixy Sat 29-Sep-12 12:58:04

Have pmed you beingblonde.

lurkingaround Sat 29-Sep-12 19:17:48

I'm new to this thread (how did I miss it), but I think the dress might be too short and too high on the neck. BUT while I was shopping just looking around, I saw this knitted dress which has what looks like a v flattering neckline and shape. Again, short for me I think, but nice eh? 5cm longer and it would be mine.

Curtsey Sat 29-Sep-12 19:29:39

Wow, good one lurking (glad you found the thread.) Colours don't work for me but that actually looks way more expensive than it is. Another 100% cotton piece also. Have to say, the asos range has some brilliant basics (and is fab for maternity wear).

Curtsey Sat 29-Sep-12 19:30:06

Shit, ordered. sorry bank balance
That's lovely.
I'm loving my new found dress wearing, I never thought I could carry one off, but have got so many compliments, and all have been MN recommendations.
That's me bought five now though, enough I think, just need to get recs on dressing them in different ways.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones Sun 30-Sep-12 18:26:29

Thank you OP!! I ordered this in blue and it is gorgeous! V slimming and comfortable smile dh loves it too. Wore it with black leggings and brown today - felt utterly fab. I'm 5'6 btw.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones Sun 30-Sep-12 19:39:58

*brown boots!

californiastars Sun 30-Sep-12 19:56:50

Is the link broken or is it just me?

Another one
Not for me, I'm too short, it would be far too long on me and look Mumsey.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones Sun 30-Sep-12 20:33:53

California, go onto the ASOS site and search for 'boat neck knitted dress' - it's the one that comes in blue & grey £30.00.

Medal Sun 30-Sep-12 21:37:18

Dammit why are there none in my size left! Hope ASOS get some more in.

TheBirdsTheBirds Sun 30-Sep-12 22:48:08

I love that green one you linked to Netto, will order it tomorrow I think!

TheBirdsTheBirds Mon 08-Oct-12 16:58:43

Not sure how stock levels are now of the first dress I linked, but I've just found another one that looks pretty much the same, in red, also 100% cotton. Needless to say, I have ordered it...

I've got that in black, it's lovely on.
Might order the red too.

TheBirdsTheBirds Tue 09-Oct-12 12:29:08

That's good to know Netto. I just looked at it again and it's not actually that similar to the first one I linked, the waist is different.

I didn't order that green one you linked in the end, I couldn't see the strange sleeves when I first looked at it on my phone... If it had been that colour and a plain jumper dress shape I might have got it.

By the way, this belt in burgundy goes really well with the grey and the navy dresses. It's super skinny and delicate, no holes so doesn't matter what size your waist is, and it's a lighter, pinker burgundy than it looks in the photo. Am wearing it today with the grey dress smile

I like that belt, might get it tomorrow.
I'm wearing the grey dress today too, with animal print tights, grey flat boots and this scarf

TheBirdsTheBirds Tue 09-Oct-12 13:01:44

Nice scarf, I like the combination of pretty and edgy.. grin I hope we never meet Netto as we now have very similar wardrobes.

Yes, we would look rather stupid!

OneMoreGo Tue 09-Oct-12 18:02:59

I really hope they get more of that blue boat neck dress in! I so want to buy one! sad

Curtsey Tue 09-Oct-12 18:30:10

Where'd you get the animal print tights Netto ? Love your outfit and Birds's belt.

NettoSpookerstar Tue 09-Oct-12 18:46:51

Asda
I have the leopard print ones too, though not worn them yet, and the diamond ones, which looked good with one of the other dresses.
