What shoes to wear with maxi dress if not gladiators?

Hi, i have a black maxi that im yet to wear as i need some new shoes to go with it. Im short so need a bit of height and cant get away with gladiators as i have short fat legs! I've been looking for some wedges but cant find any that arent either really high or really strappy or look like something my mam would wear!

Budget £50, dont mind what colour. Probably black, silver/pewter??

BISH - thet are really nice but are 4 inches high. I need to be able to run around after a toddler. I know wedges are easier than heels but i just cant get away with that type of shoe.

DARK - Not a fan of clogs

I need a dainty wedge???

I know what u mean but they were strangely comfy and didn't feel high at all.that's why she bought them as she never wears heels.maybe worth a try.

The tan New Look ones are lovely.

I've got these in the purple to wear with my maxi, as well as a different red pair (not Boden) which someone suggested on a similar thread which I loved and ordered

Appreciate outside of price range but I do think wedges are the way to go - I can waddle along in mine but believe me if you see a toddler about to land head first in a pond you'll manage to run in anything

Uggs and maxis are wrong - you'd look like you'd come out in your nightie and slippers!

i finally bought a black maxi well 2 one from new look and one from peacocks......i tried it on in the shop and had fitflops on which did make me giggle to myself, ballet pumps also not a good look, will try the ugg suggestion for a laugh too.

Seriously though i think its glads or wedges. Flip flops might be ok and i did see someone wearing birkies and it looked ok but she was thin, young and beautiful.
