have just noticed loads of blue thready veins them on backs of my legs - looks like I have been scribbled on with a blue felt tip.

Does it cost a fortune to get rid of them?

DH has just had some removed on the NHS but these were more than just thready - they stuck out quite a lot. He required surgery and not sure I would go through that for vanity (weeks wearing surgical stockings - mmm). However, there is something they can do with lasers which is quite straight forward.

msboogie, i had my thread veins injected with some sort of corrosive stuff that makes the vein close up. It's expensive - i think i paid £180 for the first session which involved some kind of test of the veins in my legs (Doppler??) to see how my valves were working (ok ish was the verdict)and then I had a further session, £80.
The nurse injected my veins and it took about 30mins each time. It stings and your legs look horrible afterwards - red blotches/bruising. You also have to wear thick black support tights All The Time, which is a bugger in summer. The cost of these are about £25 I think but was included in cost of first session.

I can't say I am thrilled with the results (treatment was last year) but perhaps I need more than two sessions. Some veins have gone, but there are still plenty there. I waited to see how it worked before booking any more sessions and, well, just never got round to it. So, there you are, a definite maybe from me grin

I had mine done about 6 weeks ago. Too recent to give you any indication on the result. But, he was very expensive - I think £150 (or may have been £300 for the consultation (he is a vascular surgeon) where he just looked at them & drew a picture of where they are on my legs. The next session was him injecting them also £150.

I think it takes at least 2-3 mths to see a difference as the blood has to clear out/dry up /be absorbed by the body (or similar).

My legs were a bit puffy, I delighted at showing them off (!) & then bruised, but it was all ok. I am expecting them to be clear by my holidays.
Whereabouts are you, because I can suggest somewhere else for about 1/2 that price & I would have gone there if she'd had an appointment for me.

PS I wasn't told by him to wear any sort of support tights, but the other lady recommended I wear them.

I think my hubbie 'found' him via the BUPA hospitals. I also think he may have been so expensive because of this vascular backgroud, he specialises in varicose veins, so the spiders veins must be a walk in the park for him (& easy money)

The lady I was going to recommend is in East Sussex, so too far for you I guess ?

Apparently you always need at least 2 sessions, the first will clear up the main ones, then I guess you notice the finer ones.

I'll be going to this lady for my second course if mine haven't gone.

I did have a good look at my legs so I could update you & it looks like the dark blue veins have turned dark brown, which perhaps means the blood is drying out ?

Me too. I wouldn't mind wearing thick tights, as I rarely wear skirts, as I am so embarrassed about mine.
