Styles for those with hips

Hi
I am rather pear shaped. Even though I am quite slim, I always think I look big on photos. Does anyone have any advice as to what to wear to look better? Could anyone recommend any nice clothes to suit that kind of figure?

I prefer to think that my waist is small in comparison to my hips!

I find it hard to get dresses to suit (apart from wrap style). Tend to go for separates and longer tops. I hate the top tucked into trousers/jeans look - IMO always makes your bum look enormous (was very tempted to tell someone this at school the other day!) I find that jeans that sit below the waist fit me better - otherwise there is a gap at the waist.

That's true and another thing is that a high waist adds more bulk to that area, whereas a lower waist will lengthen your top half and seemingly shrink the lower torso -as long as your top covers the waistband, obv.

It's difficult at the moment, I find, because bootlegs seem to be becoming such a no-no but they're more flattering to the endowed of hip than skinnies or straight.

And most if the linen trousers I can be arsed to try on are too voluminous.

Thank you. I find trousers an absolute nightmare to find. At work I really do resort to wearing the same pair day in day out. And yes boot cut jeans are much more flattering for our figure and there is no way I could ever wear skinny jeans..

I think you can wear skinnys/straights if you wear the right top - a longer tunic length top, not clingy, would cover the hip area

River,

DecorHate is right about the skinnies. I am also pear-shaped (although I have also lost my waist since I had my DD a year ago ...) but I did actually try on some skinnies at the weekend with a very long top over it (the top came midway down my thigh) and they looked really good, so maybe give it a go. I would never wear a top with them that sits on my hips though - would totally accentuate the bits I want to hide!

Like you, I do still wear my bootleg jeans - I have to otherwise I just wouldn't have the confidence to leave the house!

Yes unfortunately it has to be bootleg jeans for me too (being the pear in the fruitbowl of life)

God I've never even bothered to try on skinny jeans But I think I'd feel too stuffed up around my waist with a long top over denim skinny jeans as they look so tight right on the part of me that is most chunky.

A long top over leggings though, for me feels much more comfortable.

With boots it looks fine, but of course in the summer boots aren't really what you need, so I feel a bit stumped as to what to wear on my feet in that sort of outfit in the summer.

I hate being pear shaped. Even though I'm tall and fairly slim with a smallish waist. Buying trousers/jeans can be so disheartening. And those baggy loose linen trousers look awful on me.

I really envy the slim of hip and thigh. But they do say a pear shape is healthier than an apple, so I take small comfort in that

Forgot to mention - I do have more luck with Dorothy Perkins jeans. They usually seem to fit me for some reason.
