A potentially really stupid question about pony tails...

ok. You know those "double" hair bobbles? The ones that have some form of "thing" on either side with a wee metal bit in the middle? Well, is there a secret to how you put them in? How DO you put them in? Do you just double it over and treat it like an ordinary hair bobble??

DD2 has loads of them and is yet to wear one because of her inadequate mother (these things should really come with instructions...)

Looking forward to the wisdom of MN to help DD enter a whole new world of hair accessories!

You wrap them round & round until you can just pop one thing over the other

& then they snap

they are really good at tying your hair in a knot and having to be yanked out with a big clump of hair attached. in my experience...

btw, my dd has just had her hair cut into a cute, v short bob with no need for bobbles ever again. hurray!

????? I'm even more confused now! "You wrap them round and round until you can just pop one thing over the other" - does the hair not go into the loops then?????? This is the one bit of being a mum that I hate. Can you imagine the cold sweat that french plaits for ballet bring me out in?????

No hair does not go in loops - they are just for tying with a nice ready made anchor

what?? You are speaking a completely different language to me!!!!! SO - you just wrap the elastic round the hair and tie in a know somehow?? I really feel like I'm missing something here! THought I had it cracked when I tested on my own hair and used bobble one side at a time like you would an ordinary bobble - but obviously not

Instead of the hair going through the elastic like with a normal band the elastic goes around the hair and is secured by one of the 'things' going over the other.

Practice now with one and your finger. You will get it.

I am making it worse aren't I

The plastic bit goes over the other plastic bit and holds the bobble in place - like a toggle on a duffel coat?

Wow! I never knew how to use those things either! I understood the explanation the first time.

I double it over and treat it like a plain bobble.

Stick with a regular band then with the 'bobble hold the metal bit under the ponytail loop each bobble end over and repeat and repeat til its v tight.

I understand!!! HURRAY!! [penny drops emoticon]. Thank you all - though can see that BooHoo may be right about getting the blessed things out!

DD is now going to be dead impressed with her mum and I can regain my "best mum at the school gates" crown!!

Thankyou OP for writing this, i have always done it wrong . And Bloss your explanation made most sense to me

I can do french plaits though

Report
Katymac · 09/05/2010 21:06

I use a plain bobble underneath though as to have them tight enough to hold DD's hair they often snap

maybe wasn't a stupid question after all....

No, I never knew this either... where do you learn these things???

Katymac · 09/05/2010 21:15

My mummy taught me

I also use a normal bobble and put hair in a pony tail. I then hold onto one of the round things(of the other bobble) against the pony tail. then wrap it round the pony tail until it is tight and pull one of the round things over the other and bingo! its sorted.
