Snow White look vs Miami beach look?

Do you tan? I've always been very pale and everyone always comments that I look "ill" and "washed out". It's just the colour I am! It doesn't help that my hair is almost black though I suppose ...

I would like to have a golden tan though! I will tan a bit in summer but obviously only the "exposed" bits (and I don't tend to expose much in public!).

Do you use a fake tan or stay natural? What really puts me off about fake tan is the awful smell ... I have a sensitive nose and if I smell something gross, I won't be able to focus on anything else.

So, do you 'fake it' and if so, what do you use?

I use moisturiser with a bit of fake tan in...johnsons or Oil of Olay do one with with a SPF in it - about £7 i think at boots. That way you get a bit of colour and gradual build up so looks more natural.

The problem with some tans is it's less Miami Beach, more Oompa Loompa...

i use a bit on exposed flesh in summer but it's ridiculous to look a fake orange in mid-winter! I use the M&S one, tends not to leave streaks

I love this self tan I use the tinted gel version.

It looks v natural on my skin, but I am quite dark anyway. I don't know what it would look like on paler skin.

I only really use it for nights out though. During the summer I usually have a natural tan from all the dog walking in the sun. I tan very easily.

People were never meant to be orange.
Even the most expensive fake stuff (think Strictly slebs) is orange. My niece looks like she's turning into a satsuma.

A hint of not-quite-white is enough for me!

I find going out in the sun is the best way to get brown rather than orange. Unfortunately there's not a lot of that around here.

My hair is so dark it's pretty much black, I have very pale skin. Used to tan and go v dark naturally/with aid of sunbeds I lived in mexico/italy for long time. However for the past 4 or 5 years I haven't tanned naturally at all. I wouldn't worry about it, I don't like that my skin is so pale when I look like it should be dark but the only person to ever comment that I look too pale is my mother, and she always says things like that!

I have tried fake tan in the past and can honestly say I don't like the hassle of putting it on, getting it streak free, finding one that isn't orange, blabla. The smell is better than it used to be in these products. The one I did find quite good was this Rodial brazilian tan daily in light. It's more like a moisturiser and doesn't go streaky etc. Haven't used it since last summer though, but it's by far the best product I have used.

Would prefer to live somewhere hot and sunny, however!

St Tropez Everyday is an excellent gradual tanner without any hint of satsuma whatsoever . Far more effective than Johnson's stuff and doesn't streak.

lol @ oompa loompa. enchilda i am like you. i occassionally fake it in the summer but just enough to make me look healthy. i had a really bad spray tan once and was known as cocoa the clown for a week.
