I don't think you'll be laughed at. There will prob be all sorts there. I found I couldn't do some of the positions as my tummy got in the way but at yoga everyone is focussing on themselves so I don't think anyone noticed

Can't help with the yoga but interested in the PM programme - bought it after DS was born but then got pg with DS2 and have never used it!

Is it really good? How much weight have you lost and how long have you been doing it? If you don't mind me asking!

My mate gets poked with a chopstick in her yoga class

We did a "wind releasing" position which (as it's name suggests) was designed to release wind. We all did it at the same time tho so everyone was in the same boat (was going to put same position)

Don't remember any fanny farts (and I think I would!)

lol, no its the teacher. Its preferable to him poking her with his finger I think, to get in the right position

What size everyone will be depends on where you go I guess. I go to a yoga centre type place, and do ashtanga vinyasa, which is hard work, and yeah, everyone is v thin, and generally v young (I am neither, but am fit). I don't think anyone laughs at anyone for not being thin or young, though.

I wear yoga trousers (like leggings really, but they stop below the knee, and are a bit loose at the end), and a tight thin halterneck vest - because it doesn't fall up when I'm upside down, iyswim. To be in a shoulderstand or similar, staring at my belly ... no thanks.

And our teachers don't poke us with fingers or chopsticks, but they do just move us around, grab a hip and shift it, iyswim. You get used to it.

ime daytime yoga classes in mainstream leisure centres have more 50+ and more larger women than evening ones in church halls/yoga centres

and iyengar attracts a less hardcore crowd than eg ashtanga

normally I wear loose trous, a vest and a skinny cardi or hoody that I can ditch once I am warm, but people wear all sorts.
'Normal' sportswear with big logos etc isn't popular though - better a plain stretchy top from your normal wardrobe.

You don't wear anything on your feet so make sure your feet are clean! We have all sorts in my Yoga class - old, young, fat, thin no one takes any notice. I wear yoga trousers, vest or yoga tshirt. A tip is not to wear a t-shirt that is too baggy or when you turn upside down you will end up showing too much. Hope you enjoy it.

you work in bare feet - wear ballet pumps to get there though as you usu have to leave shoes outside the room and they are easier to get off than trainers!

Didn't know you were a yoga whore, what kind do you do? I started less than a year ago, just ashtanga, and I love it.

What do you do about all the metaphysical blather? (I mentally add 'metaphorically' but thankfully my yoga teachers don't do much of it.)

Oh, and re: farts, if you don't eat for two hours before yoga, that normally prevents them. At least for me.

i did yoga through the last 2 pregnancies, right up until 40 weeks plus. day time class at local private gym. the intructor was about 60 , as were at least half the class. they were all lovely and no one laughed at anyone, let alone me with my big bump

i wore stretchy mat trousers and a normal t shirt.

contratulations on the weight loss and good luck with the exercise programme

[waves to NQC]
I did hatha when I was in London but couldn't find a convenient hatha class with a teacher I got on with in Oxon. Mucked about with yoga/pilates/tai chi fusion a bit (amusing but not yoga), then was recommended an antenatal Iyengar class which was excellent, so have stuck with Iyengar since - also got dh into it, he is up to 3 times a week and is getting a bit hardcore . Not too much mumbojumbo metaphysicality in Iyengar either.

oh and my mum took dd to a franchised toddler yoga class (Tatty Bumpkin iirc) once and she adored it - she bought her this and a kid-size mat for Christmas and we do it a few times a week as the classes cost a fortune.
