Boring, I know, but please come and recommend a curling wand/brush for me

I need something which I can use to curl my hair either out for big, bouncy, wavy curls or under for neat, straight hair.
Hair is long with layers and quite wiry with mind of its own

There are so many of those curling wand things on the market, I have absolutely no idea which one to pick - what does one look for? I know I want to make large, flicky-type curls, rather than ringlet curls. Basically, I could do it with a large brush and hairdryer, but my arms feel like they are going to fall off by the time I'm finished, and I always have problems doing the back.

Any ideas or recommendations or just tips on what to get/avoid would be much appreciated!

The Babyliss curling wand is good. But really, if you have a straightener you can do curls with that. I taught myself how on youtube! and the curls I get with my straightener are far better and last much longer than any I've got with the curling wand. It's also a bitch for burning yourself on imo.

I've been using Braun Independent curling tongs for (I exaggerate not) nearly 25 years and I still swear by them. They are the ones that take gas canisters and are the only ones that come anywhere near as hot as ceramic straighteners.

I don't have a straightener either, but would I be better off getting one of those to do the curling with?
Is there no such thing as ceramic curling wand?
And does size matter?

I mean, if I want big waves, rather than tight curls, should I get one of those larger diameter wands rather than the usual thinnish ones?

Yes, there are different ones. I think my Babyliss wand is ceramic. My fingers will certainly attest that it gets very bloody hot. I think if you're going to invest in one, I'd go for a straightener. BUT if you never intend to actually straighten your hair then you've not lost out by getting a wand. Lots on YouTube about conical wands too, so have a look at the curls you can get with straighteners and wands and see which look you prefer.

I tried a conical wand & it was too tough so it went back to the shop.

I've now got fantastic, quick & easy to use ceramic curling tongs by Mark Hill ( I will double check though) Bought from Boots with my points, cost about £15 otherwise
