Hi, I've noticed a few times on mumsnet that people seem to have to whisper when mentioning Boden. I just wondered why? I've had a look on their website and I think a lot of it is nice. It's a bit expensive but apparently very good quality. I'm going to order a top and skirt for my daughter. She's an age 6 so not sure wether to go for 5-6 or 7-8. Anyway, I just thought I'd find out first why people are against it. (I don't want people to point and laugh as she walks down the street)

To me - for the adults clothing - the question is what is right with it?
The children's clothes are nice and good quality though.

it's overpriced. It's only for tall people.
I may be wrong but I think it's the clothes for adults that cause the whispering. IMHO they're a bit obviously middle class mummy but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Think it depends on your lifestyle/style/etc. It's not a look I can carry off!

ps, the children's stuff is nice if you can afford it.
If your dd is 6 I'd go for 7-8. I think they are a bit shorter in length than some other brands, which is bizarre, as obviously the parents HAVE to be tall to wear all those tunics.

I had to return a lovely coat that I bought for my 7 yr old dd in a size 9 - 10 recently as it was too tight across the chest, so I would say that their clothes tend to come up small. Hths.

I don't think the adult clothing are 'middle class' - I think they are just rank. And dull and boring. And over-priced. And twee.
Actually I feel quite sick imagining wearing 'Perfect damson cords and a natty plum tank' Vom.

Agree the children's clothes are very nice, do not stain easily and cope with repeat washing and tumble drying and still look good.

God - whats wrong is that every week there is a thread about 'i don't get boden or variation of'.
So to summarise - its just a place to buy clothes. Some of its nice some of its not - like most shops.
Do not wear head to toe - but none of us who frequent the S&B threads would do that anyway

my fwiend designs for boden, she's amazingly talented
mostly they have no need for someone as fabulous, fashion forward and brilliant as she
she loves them though but agrees (under duress) that they could lay off the endless marketing amd dozy clothing names

NEWSFLASH - Boden is not really for tall people!!!
At 5ft 9.5 the so called 'long' trousers are (at 33 inch leg) only just long enough for me to wear with flats. i would prefer a 34 inch leg. Plus empire lines on lots of the stuff are just too high if you are my height.
That said i do like their clothes. I often wear a classic piece of boden knitwear with a miniscule denim skirt and mols and reckon i look more MILF than boring mummy!
I've noticed it goes for loads on e-bay. I do look but haven't found any bargins yet.
I wouldn't buy Boden for myself unless it was in the sale. I only spend money on my daughters clothes. I'm a bit of a rag bag. Lol
Ronaldinhio- are you having a bad day?

It is way overpriced imo.
I simply would not be able to afford the clothes. There is a lot of choice out there so i shop around.
Shopping around is what I do best.
I do like a bargin and I'm usually quite lucky.
only buy for my kids, i tried and giave up boden womans clothing.
wait for boden sale, its like xmas comes early with big boxes
Oh yes, can't wait. When does it start? The winter clothes will probubly be o.k for the whole year with our summers.

mummyloveslucy why do you ask?
If you like something you like it surely, what mn think is beside the point.. unless we really are in a virtual girls boarding school.
I was having a perfectly lovely evening thanks

I quite like some of the women's stuff... I have only ever bought in the sale though. The kids clothes are very good value in the sale.

I have ordered a few things from Boden in the past (for myself) but there's always something wrong with them - I find the tops way too short. Also the quality is not that great. DD1 has a lovely t-shirt though that's been washed a billion times and still looks like new.
