help me with my tunic quest...please...

I bought this one today but when I tried it on with skinny jeans it just rumped up just under my bum and made me look like a large arsed bubble - twas the strangely positioned smocking on the back on the band at the bottom - twas Not Good

I do have a large arse and need something that won't draw attention, not too much at leats

what I did love about that monsoon tunic was
a. LOVED the neckline - very flattering on me - have small norkage and the detail around th eneck worked perfectly, if only the thing had just hung down straight would have been total winner
b. the fabric - wasn't jersey, didn't cling, but wasn't so voluminous as to make me look pregnant or farmgirl hoydenish - jersey doesn't work for my pear shae at all, accentuates tiny norks, flabby midriff, large arse

anyone got any great ideas on where would find similarish style tunic but no oddly positioned rump enhancing smocking????

please....

I need some new clothes - serious wardrobe malfunction (ie all last years being too old, cruddy, motheaten) leaves me in bad state for months to come, need bit of revamp too...

I'm a very similar shape to you (and also trying to revamp my wardrobe). I know what you mean about jersey, I love the clothes in teh shop but have to accept they are not flattering on me.

I've just bought this and LOVE it. It's a bit of an acquired taste but if you like that, there are a couple of others in slightly different designs and colours. I also love the owl tunic from Joe Browns (links never seem to work for there but it's in the dresses/tunics bit called "funky funtime dress" but overlook the name, it's ace).

They tick all the boxes you mention - fabric, neckline, cut but you have to like big buttons and cartoon-y designs I suppose

aha NC (love your name - I could easily wear it too!) we can hunt together

I love the shape of that one you linked to but am 40 and don't think could pull off the cartoons, more the pity

love owls but think that owl on might look a bit preggers on

saw this one on joe browns too - shape looks good but not sure would work over skinny jeans

I'm 5'6'' too - I think we are long lost identical twins

No, owl one definitely not look pg on. I get really good comments all the time (am 36 btw and v sensitive about looking pg as spent most of the last 3 years in maternity wear)

Also wear over jeans (only not skinnies as they don't suit me, I just branched out from bootcut into slim leg from... shhh... M&S and they look really good)

That other Joe Browns tunic is nice - I also have the flattering knitted tunic (on same page) which is nice but not warm enough this time of year...

Yes, momijigari! I love Uttam, Yumi and also have a look at the Mina website, quite a few nice tunics/dresses there with good necklines

thanks for the links - they all just look a bit...well...fussy for my liking. I liked teh monsoon one cos it was a good colour, nice fabric, fairly plain and simple with the interesting neckline and subtle embroidery

I have "difficult" hair, it is wavy and unruly and I like to balance it out by having something fairly simple up top, though then I need to balance that with the big bum syndrome

it's a blardy nightmare, I tell ya

Different kind of neck but simple and a good shape for you I would think?

Report
NorkilyChallenged · 12/11/2009 12:49

I personally think that with our your shape, you should avoid tunics/dresses that have that wide rib hem at the bottom like your original purchase. It's always going to emphasise the bottom and on me it has a parachute effect of ballooning out at the bum...

Will keep looking though.

I have bought a yumi tunic which I wear as a dress (5'1 so not too short for me) its same style as this but green/black colours and different design also small of norkage and it is flattering

you guys - you're great!

like that one you posted NC but don't want black

love some of those momijigari - much less fussy, can't do belts though unless bit ballroom style skirt under, waist not defined enough, just look/feel trussed up

LOVE that inis site though

love this and indeed her hair is how I plan mine to be when its current short bob grows out

but I wonder would I get the preggers feeling in it

love this too, though no indication of how heavy it is - could I wear indoors I wonder, that colour blue works well on me, and that level of fussiness is about as much as I could bear

am off to scour that site some more, it is speaking to me

Peanutbrittle - this is getting scary, as her hair is exactly like mine was last time I got it cut and coloured (is now outgrown, lank and full of white hairs though)

You have to let go of the preggers thing and just try something, the right cut doesn't feel like maternity wear at all, I promise you!

Lovely coat, bet you could wear it indoors (especially if you're like me the kind of person who is always cold)

Too messy? Similar to that Joe Browns one you liked, in a blue that might suit?

Think this is lovely and would suit me you but not sure how you feel about grey?

Oooh oooh good shape, nice colour (maybe? not sure it's quite the right blue), what do you think?

yay NC - WE WERE SEPARATED AT BIRTH - just 4 years apart but what's a mere 4 years between identical twins???

I love that wal g one - that might work very well indeed

like the blue oasis one but the blue might not be right - will pop to local oasis next week and see if they have it

like the grey oasis one but feel it's a bit up and downy iykwim, might cling and emphasis the bits and bobs that should not be emphasised

love the neckline of it though

Definitely go and look at the 2 Oasis ones, the grey one looks like it's a bit gathered with an almost empire line seam under bust which (depending on the fabric) might mean it's not too clingy. I have a good feeling about it, so on that basis (the gut feeling of an internet stranger identical twin-give-or-take-a-couple-of-years) you should try it on.

It has been fun to do virtual shopping for myself but not quite for myself Plus those links from Momijigari unfortunately gave me two new internet shopping haunts!

Let us know what you do decide.

Norkily I LOVE that first one on the republic site you linked to.
I also have just bought this but in black I plan to wear a long sleeve skinny tshirt under it and leggings or skinny jeans. Its quite flattering!

clure I really like that new look one - tell me is it a bit voluminous? I don't like things too clingy but not too full either - fussy - moi? LOVE the square neck on it and the pretty but not to ofussy detailing

now, after all my talk of wanting simplicity I have gone and fallen for this one but think I need to be talked out of it - what do y'all think?

Ooh that New Look one is nice Clure, I hadn't seen that before!

PB - I really like that one (haven't seen in RL though). I actually linked to it on another dress thread a while ago.

I can see you moving towards my cartoon tunic land rapidly
