Which clothes shops do you NEVER buy from?

I have never ever set foot in jane Norman for instance. A look in the window is enough.

I walk round River Island and straight out the door without stopping.

Mum buys stuff from Fat Face all the time, I think it is sludgy coloured and vile.

Warehouse looks cheap and cheerless.

I was sneered out of Karen Millen. Too glitzy anyway. Nouveaux Riche clothing

I am the only person on the planet who goes in Primark and thinks: "Ah feck, this is all crap, I'm off." Never buy from there.

it will probably be quicker to just list the places I do shop from

Agree with Jane Norman, River Island, Warehouse and Karen Millen.
I never go in French Connection after a row with them when they would not refund on a faulty item (that was nearly 10 years ago now!!).
BHS
Topshop (as dd and her friends go in there and I would feel very tragic wearing the same clothes as my dd and her teenage friends!)
Monsoon - look round then wander out
Per Una - same reason as Topshop but insert my mum for dd!
Primark - can't be arsed!

Lol. I do that Puppymonkey. I walk in Primark, circle the shop and walk out again. I hate that jumble sale feel about it.

Other places I never shop:

Miss Selfridges: I think I'd set the 'old fart' alarm off.

I feel too old for River Island too.

Dorothy Perkins I find a bit dull.

Jane Norman I just don't get.

Never bought anything from...

Next - boring office wear

Fat Face/White Stuff - yuk, like Per Una for women who go to the gym

Wallis/Principles - even my mum doesn't shop in there. Dull

Karen Millen - office wear for slags

Monsoon - VILE

Kookai - bought one jumper there about 15 years ago.

Debenhams - not actually sure why this shop exists

I walk in and out of River Island as well. And schuh, and office, and Jones the bootmaker as well.

Trying to think of the last things i bought...a dress and cardigan from Peacocks, a pair of amazing cavalry boots from Toast, a skirt from a seller on Etsy and some stuff from the Fred Perry website. Sorry the high street, you are mainly crap.

I have just realised how few shops I do actually buy clothes in!

Report
SofaQueen · 30/10/2009 09:21

Never have bought from:

Primark (too concerned about child labour abuses)
Boden (not my style)
Oasis/Jane Norman/Miss Selfridges (very poor quality)
LK Bennett (sizes too big for me and not my style)
Fat Face/White stuff (again, not my style)
Top Shop/H&M/Monsoon - don't like the quality
M&S - Wrong fit for me
Toast - lovely quality, wrong sizes for me
Joules - I like the things, just haven't got around to ordering anything

Actually, it is probably easier to say which stores I DO shop in as I generally avoid much of the high street!

Agree with dexter73... I hardy shop anywhere.

I don't like Jane Norman, Debenhams, Kookai, Morgan (spew), River Island, Urban OUtfitters, American Apparel, Primark, Monsoon, Kew, Warehouse (cheap and nasty), Miss Selfridge (ditto), Fat Face, Wallis, White Stuff, (I loathe FF and WS), Next (eeeewww). Great Plains stuff falls apart and goes bobbly. Also frumpy. Crew (don't even go there, dreadful naffola stuff). Ditto Joules. M&S and LK Bennett just to old for me. I'm far too immature to shop at grown up places like that.

Actually I must shop somewhere because I seem to accumulate clothes quite adeptly.

Let's see...
Ok I bought some skinnies and a going out top from Oasis recently and have an eye on one of their shift dresses.
I buy designer jeans off t'internet.
I have quite a lot of things from Toast (sales only).
I have a collection of Mulberry footwear.
I bought the Boden biker jacket the other day but I am careful with Boden or I look ten years older in it. Ditto Gap.
For work I wear stuff from Hobbs and the occasional Karen Millen shirt.
For separates New Look is quite good and so is Top Shop, but both have to be approached cautiously due to mutton factor.
I quite like French Connection but fpr some reason never shop there.

You must all buy your clothes in BHS and Edinburgh Woollen Mills then!

Top Shop, Next and Primark I avoid like the plague. Also M&S.

River Island and Miss Selfridge aren't even on my radar they are so awful and teen focused.

Sofa Queen - when you say the sizes somewhere are too big, does that mean that you are a 6 or something that they don't go down to, or that you are (for example) a 10 usually but their 10s are huge on you?

Report
dexter73 · 30/10/2009 09:44

Also I don't buy clothes from supermarkets. There is something hugely depressing about having a top in the same basket as the groceries.

Report
schiaparellipink · 30/10/2009 09:45

oooh god yes i forget the other shops I never buy anythign from - french connection, jane norman, morgan, all saints, miss selfridge and also those grotty overpriced faux-snooty dumps LK Bennett and Jigsaw. I went in a Jack Wills shop for the first time yesterday, what a load of wannabe-Abercrombie & Fitch-crossed-with-Hollywood-idea of what British students at Oxford wear - overpriced jumpers. Cack.

I do like Urban Outifitters though - they have the right sort of overpriced tat. And American Apparel t shirts and t shirt dresses are good. And TK Maxx is brill for cheapo jeans.

I can't stand Next and never get anything from there, unlike the rest of the world, so it seems.

Their kids stuff is awful too.

I pretty much only shop from TopShop, Gap and internet places (like pretaportobello) and now Traffic People in Spitalfields market. I do so mostly because the sizing is good for me. I never shop in:

  • M&S too old and depressing
  • Jane Norman too tarty
  • Next too synthetic fabrics and rubbish and currently:
  • Monsoon because I think their designers have been doing some hard drugs recently and it has affected their designs somewhat. Most of the clothes this season are HIDEOUS

like this
and this.
The only explanation is drugs.
