Best shampoo for thick, coarse, dry (and now greying) hair...?

I hate my hair. It's absurdly thick (need a double appointment when visit hairdresser even tho it's chin length and layered) and dry and doesn't shine.

I actually have to wash and dry it last thing at night, sleep on it and GHD the hell out of it to make it even vaguely tame.

So, vent aside: I need a really good shampoo/conditioner that smooshes it flat and makes it shine. I really liked the Tara Smith organic testers from Tesco but they seem to have discontinued them at the precise moment I wanted to buy the full size bottles.

I didn't get on with MOP, John Freida or Tommyguns. I like Herbal Essences but it feels very chemical-ly. Lush lovely but not tough enough on my hair.

Any thoughts? TIA

I used to slather on loads of pantene conditioner, my hairs the same unfortunately plus curls!
I dye my hair blonde at the mo and use john frieda blonde stuff, the conditioner is great, i think they do one for brunettes?

Do you wash your hair everyday? Mine is much easier to style after a few days serum etc in it, i just straighten every morning.

Oh and use a tiny bit of wax on any greys that are sticking up.

Hmm. Have tried Aussie in the past and it's nice for shine, but didn't do loads for the big hair tendency. Maybe worth trying again, though.

Any other ideas? I need the hair equivalent of Spanx!

I have similar misbehaving hair.
I need to change shampoo and conditioner on a very regular basis.
My hair get on with Charles Warthington (sp? you find it in Boots) Shine on shampoo and conditioner, Aveda and Kiehl's shampoo. I also recommend Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom.
Aveda and Kiehl's are really expensive, so I usually rely on Pantene.

Ah, I have now lots of grey hair, which makes the situation worse.

SAme situation.Use shine and shimmer from Loreal for highlighted hair plus same conditioner.Works very well.Then apply some John Freida frizz ease serum to top and Aveda be curly to ends and voila..it looks slightly better.

I have real thick hair (ringlets) and the Superdrug intensive henna conditioner leaves it feeling and looking fab here. I only use it once every two months. Been using it for years (can't believe they still make it - it used to be pink!) Best thing for thick hair is to rotate products I find..

Have you tried the Umberto Giannini Sleek and Chic Go Straight Shampoo and Conditioner

I've got dry, curly hair and I don't use shampoo at all. I just use conditioner in the shower every day. Been doing it for about 3 years. It makes a noticeable difference to my hair and makes it much softer and less dry. Highly recommend it.

I would say really go heavy on the conditioner. Just use a little shampoo but loads of conditioner. Have you tried kerastraight?

Kerastase Bain Oleo Relax and Lait Vital might be worth a go. Expensive but worked really for my course hair.

I'd also recommend Aveda Be Curly. And only washing your hair every 3/4 days.

Similar hair here and I switched to Jasons organics this year because it was a fraction of the Aveda stuff I have used forever's price.

I like them all apart from Lavender so far, Jojoba, Sea Kelp, Apricot. My hair definitely hasn't changed from when I used Aveda to this.

I have similar hair. Nothing you can buy in Boots is any good - the Aussie range feels like water. Aveda not bad but I don't like the smell and I don't think it's all that brilliant given the price. I normally use Redken All Soft (have tried Frizz Dismiss and like that too but I do keep going back to All Soft) and Kerastase Bain Oleo Relax. Agree that for every squirt of shampoo you need about five of conditioner ...

Also have you tried CWC? It means condition-wash-condition. Basically, you wet hair, put a bit of conditioner on bottom 2/3 of hair to protect it, then shampoo, then condition again. It's done wonders for mine.

I recently bought some Toni and guy redhead shampoo and conditioner, the urban antidote one in turquoise bottle it's level 2 for dry hair it's good. I have hair that's very coarse and dry and it softens it. Also olive or coconut oil on damp hair and left on for a while, overnight if poss and washed out works well.

I have very similar hair, tried loads, and the best thing I've found it the Waitrose own brand nourishing shampoo/conditioner, with the conditioner combed through with a wide-tooth comb. £1.10 a bottle.

I love love the Dove shampoo and conditioner. The one that's sadly £6.99 (!!) in Boots, but is often on 3 for 2. It's for dry hair and honestly, it has SAVED mine.

I have the exact same hair! I use Aussie miracle range.

I've always kept it short as it bugs me when long - but I'm finding longer hair is much easier to look after than shorter styles. I have a long layered Bob type cut, it's just below my collar/almost shoulder length. A good cut really makes a huge difference (except Ive been looking for a decent hairdresser for years!)

My routine was the exact same as yours, except now I use a loreal steampod instead of ghds. I rough dry my hair then use the steampod on slightly damp hair. When Ive use the steampod, I generally find that I don't need to use them again between washes (unlike ghds which I needed to whiz through every morning) they have made such a difference!

Coconut water products like these are the answer.

I use the shampoo, conditioner and the post wash spray (go gentle with that) for very long, thick, grey hair and it sorts the bumbleswaz and leaves super shiny hair.
