need a cool bag for carrying uni books

Starting uni in september and will be ditching the car in favour of public transport as it's a city centre. I'm thinking I probably need some kind of rucksack to carry weighty library books, but I don't want to look like my mum going for a hike (no offence mum!).

your key word is:urban (if I can get away with it at 34 )

Any ideas?

Almost all of us in my class are using some type of Hessian bag for life type thing.

Next do some nice ones. I have given up with being able to carry anything on my shoulder with the amount of books I lug about

Sorry does not really help with your search to be cool

I thought you wanted a COOL bag......... I was wondering why you needed to keep your books chilled

Perhaps I ought to go to bed!

Get an Eastpak record bag. Can't go wrong. Or search for a vintage leather satchel. Or Dakine do nice rucksacks.

Im not at carrying the same sort of stuff but I do walk everywhere
Here is what I find easiest atm
A small bag for my personal stuff and a hessian/jute bag for other stuff

If I was a student I would have a small rucksack for day to day stuff
Take a jute bag for the inevitable extras that you might acquire during the day - library books, heavy text book that you dont want on your back

HTH

Wilts, does it not make your fingers creb carrying heavy hessian bags by your actual hands?

(And by creb, I mean, really hurt?)

DD has a nice animal rucksac i covet.

i've got one of these

most people in my class seem to carry jute type bags with over the shouldre type personal bags. Wilts are you in my class?

i'm rather fancying a leather satchel.

I do a bit of carrying on my shoulder and then swap to my hand. It doesn't hurt my hands at all.

I would not swap back to a normal bag at all now. The Hessian bags are fab for non rummaging easy access when you realise you need something but your bag is between your feet under the table

I also do what yurtgirl does and have a small bag with purse, keys etc in which I can just ditch in the big bag if necessary.

EccentricaGallumbits - No, we are doing different degrees from what I gather. Although I am based at my local hospital, so If you are ever there you may well have seen me with my lovely Hessian bag

Wilts - that is it exactly!
You can put a load of stuff in a rucksack and all the pockets can be lovely
But retrieving stuff can be a real pain
And I always forget which pocket I have put which things in
