Quick question - I have been known to buy DW clothes. Mainly impulse buys if I see something in a shop window that I think would suit her. I am a big fan of Wolford, but they have a limited range (and I only like about a quarter of it). So can anyone suggest where else I should look - given that DW also seems to like wolford??

(Unless she hates then & is just humouring me in that particular way that men just.don't.get.)

They are better known for making tights that last for ages (apparently), but they also make some cracking summer dresses & tops that I haven't seen anywhere else. It's not big deal, I just wondered if ther are places that sell a similar style, if you see what I mean.

I can't work out where to go myself because I can't do the 'go from one shop to another - repeat - repeat - until you find what you want' thing. I am psychologically limited to a 2-shop strategy for any single item...

I don't mean this critically WantManual, but I am intrigued that you buy clothes for your wife (maybe everyone's dh does, but not mine!)

What is wrong with letting her go off for the day on her own (ie you have the kids) and letting her shop for herself?

Owlingate: It's not a money issue, more about a certain 'look' from clothes that I didn't realise aren't in UK.

I hardly ever buy hert clothes. As I said, only when I see something while walking down a street that I think she'd like. It happens about 3 times a year. The last 3 times have been from Wolford. I don't go on shopping trips on DWs behalf, it is always unplanned.

DW buys her own clothes. Frankly she can wear whatever she likes, just as I can. Doesn't mean she can come home with a jumper for me though. works both ways.

DW and I work full time.

I watched one of those programmes once where they both had to go out and buy an outfit for the other.

It was so sweet - he bought her this lovely dress that showed a little leg and cleavage (all very tasteful) and she normally wore baggy clothes because she thought she was fat. He however clearly thought she was the hottest thing he'd ever been lucky enough to date!

muggle...On a rough morning I probably do look like a bit of a troll. In fact if DD4 wakes me up howling at 3.30 in the morning "because I want another cuddle" one more time I will actually become a troll, hide under her bridge and try to eat her.

So, I think I'll stick to random shopping instead of trying to plan where to go.

I'm going to seem picky now, and am probably making heavy weather of a simple issue! Not used to posting on MN yet...

Yes, I could look at DWs existing stuff, but I know where her clothes come from (Jigsaw, Hobbs, M&S, Crew, Ralph L, Max Mara etc). I'm 'Label Neutral' and am only interested in a 'look' that appeals to me when I see it. I bought her a short tweedy jacket from Jigsaw once, just because I saw it in the window and immediately knew i wanted to buy it.

Over here in Switzerland the high street is split into two types of clothes shop: Profoundly Expensive, and Bloody Awful. Wolford isn't cheap, but i don't want to go there again soon so I'm after an 'equivalent', if that makes sense, that I can find a stockist for over here.
