Can anyone recommend a good cleanser?

I used to use baby lotion as a cleanser but have been told off.

Recently I;ve tried simple (very badly designed bottle - had to cut the bottle open to get it out as it was so thick) and dermatologica (am totally underwhelmed by all the products despite having spent a fortune!)

I like to use cleanser to take off my makeup then wash my face with facial wash. My skin is typical thirty something mum (ie part wrinkles, part spots and generally knackered!)

Any recommendations appreciated.

Very pricey, but Eve Lom is great, as is Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. Dermalogica also good but you need to use correct one for your skin type. To be honest if you are only using it to remove make up I would stick to baby lotion, and then splash out on a good foaming cleanser like dermalogica's special cleansing gel. I am a trained beauty therapist and film and TV make up artist so I have seen a lot of faces in my time and these are the best I've come across!

I love the Liz Earle. It's not cheap but it's not stupid money and it does make your skin feel really properly clean.

Another vote for the Oil Cleansing Method, sounds odd, but it works really well.

On the days I can't be bothered don't have time I use Simple moisturising cleanser

One of my friends swears by Liz Earle so will give it a try.

The dermalogica one is an oil I think it is called "precleanse" - I found the concept of putting oil on my face a bit odd....

woodenchair - how do you manage to get the simple cleanser out of the bottle? That is the one thing that put me off it - it was so thick that even if you left the bottle upside down it wouldn;t come out.

mymatekate - I usually get horrified looks from everyone esp beauty therapists when I mention the baby lotion - it works well for me, I just felt that I was doing something wrong!

Another vote for Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. I am a big fan and have converted my mum, sister and several friends. They do small/travel sizes if you want to give it a try. As well as a really good website, Liz Earle products are also stocked in John Lewis (if you have one nearby!). I should be on commission

Sanctuary do a very similar Hot Cloth cleanser and you can get it in Boots! It's about £12 and I really like it.

Only one thing I'd say about the Sanctuary cleanser - I bought it once because I like Liz Earle and thought it was a good alternative, but it made my skin red raw! Obviously not everyone will react like this, but I just think the Liz Earle one is a bit gentler.
I would honestly say though if you have a bit of spare cash and want to treat yourself, try the Eve Lom cleanser - it is fab.

Oil cleansing method all the way.

Previous to this I used with success Lush Ultrabland, Boots Botanics Cleansing Balm and Tesco B Natural cleanser.

Tried Eve Lom and Liz Earle both of which gave me spots despite using it for a good 2 months so it wasn't the initial breakout that you get with these cleansers.

i use ponds facial cleanser. its great. same as liz earle method but cheaper around £4. can get from boots.
i have dryish skin.

Another vote for oil cleansing! It works, it's all natural, and it's cheap. It is an odd concept, but once you've tried it you won't go back to normal cleanser.

I've got a Clarins enormous tub that I've used every day since Christmas and hardly any seems to have gone- so though it's quite expensive to start with, it works out quite economical in the long run...It's nice and creamy and gentle...I am probably going to try Liz earle stuff in due course as so many people on here rave about it...I'd like to try the oil thing too but am in arse end of nowhere (sth Italy) and can't get owt but olive....(obviously)

I also vote for Liz Earle. My mum gave me one from Champneys for Christmas (you can get it in Sainsburys) which was good. I also like REN and another brand to try is Simple, not too many nasty chemicals and cheap.

I didn't like Liz Earle. I am currently using the Olay Regenerist facial wash but I use eye-makeup remover first. I also like the Origins wash off cleansers - there is a white minty smelling one and an orangey one, both of which are nice to use and not harsh.

I didn't like Liz Earle. It just didn't work for me but I have loved Eve Lom in the past although the days of affording that are long gone.

I've just bought Dr Nick Lowe foaming cleanser from boots which I love! And the moisturizer and eye cream. Halfway between cheap and expensive, think about £12.

Another one for the oil cleansing method and yes it is fantastic for oily skin, it has rebalanced my skin beautifully.

Liz Earle from me I'm afraid, love it and have done the maths, it lasts a long time and does a great job, it's as cheap as your normal shop bought cleansers.
and i NEVER washed my face regularly before it, call me what you want but i just didn't ever get round to it, baby wipes were about as good as i got!
sounds like liz earle doing good freebies as well at the moment.
