frigging awesome!
I used a method from this thread and then something similar to trim the back.
I did have same length below shoulder hair and now it is all layered and light and pretty.
And it took 10 minutes in the kitchen with a brush, hairband and some scissors!
Thanks!
I need to do mine.
Women's hair cuts are well and truly a rip off. They really are and I go without because I don't like being ripped off.
Did you put the ponytail in the centre of your head?
i did my fringe it's a bit odd
guess i need proper scissors not nail ones
I'm soooo tempted. I only want to take a bit off and I've done it before but DH thought I was going mad.
Pic pls!
Yes, we need pics!
I did 2 ponytails. One on the front to the side (like in the video) and another on the top of my head in teh centre.
That way I have a 'styled' layered fringey bit (the shortest bits hit just above my chin) and then the back has lost a load of the scraggy bits as well that were missed with teh first cut.
10 minutes?!?!?!??
I am waiting for them to copy over from my phone!
Yup. I actually did it twice. I did the forn bit earlier this afternoon.
Put hair in ponytail, chopped about 2 inches off and then cut into it.
Then after I put DD's to bed I decided the back looked ridiculous and scraggy so I did that too in teh same way (although with a bit more contortion...
)
No way would I cut my own hair.
What scissors did you use?
I really can't be arsed blowing £30 for someone to spend the same amount of time they spend cutting DH's hair down the street for £8.
pics pics pics!
But Soupy, as expat says, haircuts are a complete rip off.
I can't justify spending 30-40 quid to make my hair look pretty when that would feed us for half a week.
I only get my haircut on my birthday as DH bungs me money to spend on myself on hair, massage etc, otherwise I refuse to pay it myself.
I have been thinking about it for a few weeks though and chickening out
Pics are coming!
I used my kitchen scissors
and cut it into the bin.
DH has just come home and after squinting at me suspiciously has asked if I have done anything to my hair.
he does say that it does not lookas if I did it myself though, which is good (He has never lied to spare my feelings.....
)
I agree, Jack. Plus, EVERY hairdresser I've been to here cuts it way too short for my liking because I'm over 35. Short hair doesn't suit my face shape.
Seriously, I don't know why they charge so much and expect people to keep paying for that every 6 weeks or so in this recession.
The pony-tail hair cut is wonderful!
Good for you! I've been cutting my own hair for years, and get lots of compliments on it.
People think I still go to the (very expensive) hairdresser I used to go to. I used to watch very carefully what he was doing, and it paid off.
I tear pictures of haircuts I like from magazines, study them carefully, and ta-da!
Cutting hair is NOT rocket science
okay, bear in mind disclaimers for not sleeping/no make-up/grumpy toddlers etc etc.
Before Note the scraggly ends, ncie!
Front ponytail then I chopped this much off the end (about 2-3 inches) and cut into it about another inch or so to feather it.
After and again (plus make-up...oh the vanity
(Note toddlers disctracted by telly in background...)
and this is the side view after I did the back I did this ponytail right on the crown of my head and tipped my head upside down over the kitchen bin to cut it. I do nt recommend this unless you have emptied the bin already <boak>
So easy!
Looks good!
This is why I have a hairdresser for a sister. Cuts and colours my hair for free, I just pay for the dye. Could cost me approx £50 in the salon.
notmyelftoday.
thanks!
I want straight hair. I'd love that cut
JB, that looks FANTASTIC!! You should be really chuffed!
You look lovely
Oh wow! well done.
I've been known to hack at mine before, I might try this. I had a straight above shoulder bob cut last week and I hate it.
Wow, good job, it's great - you look lovely
Now you can go and spend the money you would have paid the hairdresser on some new shoes!
I may have trouble doing it with only the use of one arm though, hehe
JB - that looks fab! Wish I had the guts to cut my own hair ... very tempted to just trim the ends but am too much of a wuss!
Totally agree about hairdressers ripping us off ... DH and I used to go to the same place; DH's was combed, trimmed, shaved, shaped and waxed 6 quid ... mine was combed straight (not even washed) and trimmed in a straight line: 22quid

looking good
Your hair does look good btw.
I cant cut my own - I cant even do my own fringe without it looking odd / short / wonky, so I do lurve my sister
I wanna do it, im gonna do it, shall i do it?
only if you post pics
Oh, wow! Your hair is gorgeous (and I'd kill for clear skin like that
).
Ooh, compliments, thanks
Eyeballs, if it helps I am
of curly hair. DD2 has got lovely curls growing now and DD1 has poker straight hair.
Oh Devil, how is your arm/shoulder? Come and visit me and I'll get drunk and cut your hair!
looks v nice
Wow! That is so good- you look fabulous
You are very brave though... don't think I'd dare!
"as expat says, haircuts are a complete rip off."
No, that's simply an opinion. Mine is my one personal indulgence and worth every penny (and impossible to do on myself). I cut all my children's hair though. And dye it myself.
Blimey - that's impressive. Wish I'd seen this before blowing a silly amount of cash on my hair the other week. (But then, I am getting married in a few weeks, prob not the best time to start with the DIY haircuts...
)
It's an indulgence because it's over-priced.
My hair is straight with no layers.
So I always wonder why it costs so much to have it professionally cut but my husband's only cost £8.
this may not have worked, but if it has, my profile will be showing a pic from my past of when an untrained person cut my hair...
NotmyELF!
Fair enough Soupy.
I do love having my haircut but it just seems like such an extravagence when I could spend the money on fabric to fund my sewing obsession and spend the time sans DC's sitting on the beach reading a book!
I haven't cut the DD's hair yet though. I trimmed DD1's nearly 2 years ago and took as small amount off DD2's fringe but other than that they have never had their hair cut!
um, is that you with the fringe elf? <stifles giggles until reassured that it isn't a pic or elf's dd...>
of elf's dd
lol, no its me. Its about 15 years ago now so I'm thick skinned enough to be okay about it now
My sister cuts DD's hair (well fringe, she hasn't had her hair done as yet) and I'd be pretty cross if she came back looking like I did!!
i inflicted terrible fringes on dd1, the pics are cringe inducing, and as a result haven't been able to bring myself to cut dd2's hair at all, at least now (at nearly 2) it's just about long enough to tuck behind her ears. mind you, i cut dd1's into a bob and everyone was mighty impressed i did it, it looked pretttty good though i say so myself.
Your hair looks fab Jack
I highly recommend the basics hairdressing scissord from Boots. For about £7/8 you get a proper pair as well as a set of thinning shears.
I started cutting my own a couple of months ago and people don't believe me when I say that I do it myself. Not sure if that's a compliment or not!
Aww, I had to cut dd2's fringe last week because it was in her eyes and she had conjunctivitis...she can't sit still to save her life, and now her beautiful auburn locks resemble a gonk
Still, it will grow...
Wow, fantastic hair.
I am even more impressed with your dedication in taking before, during, and after pics! You are a star!
Wow - I'm seriously impressed at the results
Thanks for the recommendation on scissors, Bill.
OMG! i love that. im soo tempted to do mine now.
may have to take a before and after shot though just so you can all cry or cheer along with me
Have I missed something?
Do you really just grab it all in a front ponytail & start chopping? This could be the answer for me, I hate hairdressers.
(looks great btw JB
)
I'm going to have to go for the scissors, Mamazon. Still £20 cheaper than another hairdresser who's going to cut my hair too fecking short because I'm 'old'.
me too. gonna go boots tomorrow and report back.
mind you i have very long hair (halfway down my back) so i don't think i'll get such great result.
might do a smaller front section though to give me the fringey bit.
i was gonna go hairdressers anyway so if i fook it up its not so bad.
its only hair after all
Mamazon - mkae sure you take lots of good pictures like JB here!
i'll have to wait till watershed before posting so as not to scare the kiddies then
< bated breath >
Just ben to look at pics on your profle after that comment and am confuzzled.
ravenAK -- you put in the ponytail, chop straight across, and then you need to spend four or five minutes snipping into the end so that it winds up looking like an old-fashioned shaving brush (i.e. this softens up all the harsh edges so that you get soft gradations and no choppy bits).
<disclaimer: apparently. Have never done it myself but have watched it on YouTube>
Ooh, I want you all back here with pics later!
I am definately going to invest in some proper scissors, DD's hair is going to need serious cutting at some point so it will be money well spent.
It might work better than mine Mamzon, When I did the front ponytail it didn't catch half my hair at the back which is why I ha to do another ponytail.
This is the method I linked to at the top raven.
I'm very impressed, you look great. I've been gearing myself up to try this ever since I read the other post and saw the video.
I want to try colouring my hair too. My last trip to the salon cost me over 90 pounds - just a local place, nothing fancy, I'm convinced I could do a reasonable job myself. I have longish layers and a fringe so it's fairly casual although I do like it quite straight - would the straightness show up my imperfect cut, hmm. Still gathering courage at this stage.
Will that work if you have wavy hair, ie not straight?
I have trouble getting mine to hang straight especially the fringe.
I am wondering about the wavy hair too.
I bought thinning scissors in Superdrug for £3.
I have been cutting my hair for years like this, I saw Lee on This Morning doing this years ago.
It works great, my hair has a slight wave to it, so I always cut it after I'd washed, dried and straightened it.
I now embrace my waves and have been neglecting my straighteners for the last few months, and have given my hair a trim but haven't really done 'the cut'.
Hair does really need a good cut though so I will have a go later and let you know the results.
In theory, it should work on wavy hair. If after you've washed it you follow the procedure , making sure you've made a neat even ponytail , pulling the hair straight , then it should work. To get the waves back though you may need to at least wet the hair again after.
My hair does have a very slight wave to it but is mostly straight, I wouldn't know about curly hair. We need someone brave to test it.....go on moonmother!
I washed it this morning and it looks great, I think as it is layers it doesn't show up any imperfections, whereas if I had tried to cut it straight it woudl look awful I am sure.
Dh keeps looking over and saying 'It really doesn't look like you did it yourself' in a really suspicious tone of voice, as if I have sneaked off to hairdressers with DD's in tow
I'm going to do it! <deep breath>
It will work better if I straighten it first won't it?
im going to my firends to do it later so that if it goes wrong she can comfort me. I'll get her to snap some piccies as well.
not sre if im nervous or excited. think i might lop quite a chunk off so everyone can see that i've had it cut and see what people say.
Do you know what? It's actually ok! My tip would be that if your hair is very long (like mine is) tie the ponytail on your head like they do, then put another hairband further down towards where you want to cut to keep all the ends together.
I took about 3 inches off the length (haircut badly overdue but no £ to get it done) and another inch or so for the layers. Has got rid of all the straggly dry ends if nothing else
that was my plan too clairybee.
i am a big wuss though. I have a very love hate thing going on with my hair. i hate it as its so dull and boring, but i love its length and the fact that men other people love it.
plus i have a very round fat face so don' wanna go too sort or i'd look like a dumpling
Thanks guys! I just did mine and it looks great!
Looked like shit with the 1st ponytail cut, but did a few more to layer the layers, as I have blond hair and it is really easy to see lines when I cut my hair, and it worked a treat, soooo easy. Only took 10 mins. I have cut my own hair for ever, but go to the hairdressers for the more difficult stuff, but now you have saved me the time and money to get this more difficult look... I am well happy - THANKS.
But now I need to do my roots!
BTW I did my ponytails all central, you do not have to do it on the side, I have a side parting but always cut it centrally, oh and I straightened before during and after.
What side do you do for a side parting?
Do you cut up into the ponytail randomly? What are the lines that the hairdresser in the video talked about?
I am going to do this today.I had one length hair and had a fringe last year i hate it and have been growing it so have long messy fringe and past shoulder hair and am hoping to blend the fringe in if i have other layers.Fingers crossed! There are always hairbands and slides if it goes wrong
I've just done it and it looks fine! I have very thick, curly hair, and it was in a hideous, all one length grown out bob. I pulled the pony tail to the side where I have the parting and chopped. About four inches. Then I layered it a bit more around my face, chopping with the scissors, and pulling the hair round like they do at the hairdressers, so that the layers are pretty much the same length each side, and it's got its curl and bounce back. Back is layered quite nicely on its own. Result!
I didn't straighten my hair either - I cut it dry, and sorted out the layers when it was dry too. This way you can see which way the curl is going to go, as well, so you are unlikely to get one annoying bit sticking up. Think there is also more margin for error with thick curly hair - errors less likely to show!
Very Rachel!
so many brave people
was going to cut mine, but have just promised DH I'll let him do it later. Grrr to instant messaging!
moany lisa i put the pony tail to tehside where my poarting is.
am actually very pleased with it. it didnt take long. i need better sisscors though
Also have just done mine
Normally I'd wait to wash it and do it when it's damp but I couldn't wait
I put my ponytail central, as I have a centre parting and cut 3 inches off and cut up into it to layer the back. I don't have a fringe so my shortest layer around my face is in line with my lips, then I just cut up into the layers around my face.
MrsSchadenfreude is right , it's actually easier on wavy/curly hair as it doesn't notice so much if the layers aren't exactly the same length each side.
My hair feels alot better, I was starting to get 'woolly' ends and when I had finished I just gave it a spray with Aussie leave in Conditoner and fluffed it back up.
It's actually given me a few more curls, as it's taken some of the weight out of it.
All in all a good experiment!!
I still haven't had a chance as am doing marathon homework supervise with ds who has 2 big essays to do by monday!Am off now to look for the scissors.I have the thinning scissors already and will use those and small sharp scissors for the ponytail.
does it matter if you use normal scissors for the thinning bit?
we've got some hairdressing ones (well they say hairdressing, they came in DH's electric razor set and weren't expensive), but not the proper thinning ones
Normal scissors are fine.I will be looking at everyone with flicky hair now thinking did you do that yourself?maybe we should call it the mumsnet like the rachel
I actually loved the OP's hair before it was cut..so full and thick and healthy looking.
I would NEVER cut my own hair but fair play to all those who dared and sheared!!
I did it! but i was very tentative with the amount i chopped off! I think rally i need to do it again and be a bit braver! but yes I am pleased!!
I just cut 4" (and layered) DD's mad curly hair doing this, and it looks really good. Yay!
hey misdee looks good!
So will this cut now be known as the "Mumsnet", like the "Rachel"?
I just did mine - only a little bit to layer it round the front, and I think it looks great for three minute's work! I can't afford £20 to get it done and tbh, that's all I would have ended up getting a hairdresser to do anyway.
I am sooo tempted to do this, but I have a party to go to tomorrow and no time to get to the hairdressers if it fucks up.
You are all so brave and it's paid off, you all look fantastic, would be hard pushed to tell you hadn't been to a salon.
Question - if you already have layers in will this work? AM imagining my hair in the pony tail and half will fall out - and does it only work on blooming long hair?
Yay all fellow 'Mumsnet's'! Misdee, that looks great, yours is a bit shorted than mine but I hate hair in my eyes.
I cut it on teh side as I always have a side parting so it is easier.
I did just cut DD's hair. not in a Mumsnetjust trimming ends and cutting a fringe as she walked into the door again today because of hair in her eyes. but she flinched. And not her fringe is about half a cm too short.
Bugger!
My hair before was not good, the ends were really dry and nasty and tangled every 5 frigging minutes. I actually never wear it down as it is so dull and horrible looking but now it is lvoely as I have the nice bits left and the dry bits gone!
Yours look fab, too, misdee!
I likey.
I'm just waiting for the scissors because I had to order mine online and all the ones I have here are pretty dull and rubbish except my sewing ones.
bloody hell, I thought JB was my cousin from that first pic - spooky! The only has 1 ds though, so I am guessing now.
I did it. Always was crap at resisting temptation.
Just need to do something with the back now, didn't someone say they did the same with the back of their hair?
O wow, i kept seeing this thread but didn't open (thinking the cut would be err... bowl-esque) but they look great! I am getting some scissors tomorrow - will post pics! I paid £50 for some twonk @ T & G last time to give me THE worst haircut of my life - I ended up like that - seriously.
In October I paid £30 to someone who absolutely butchered my hair, the latest in a long line but this was especially bad.
It hasn't grown very fast, either, after having DS in November.
oops.
after cut
i'm going to re-do it taking it 2cm shorter or thereabouts 2nite, as my fringe keeps flopping in m,y eyes
i dont really understand the chopping/ cutting in bit at the end...
i have jsut done it and it looks brilliant, i took off about 25 cm,
I may try this on my 14 yo dd, with very curly hair, that even her sister is putting off cutting for her!
what about the cutting in bit tho?????
I just did dds and she looks great
.
ooooo ooooo did you think I will be brave enough after a bottle of wine?
Misdee can you post a recent before pic please so we can see how you started?
I am going to do this with mine, but not tongiht as im a little bit tipsy drunk and i fear i would look silly afterwards. I hate other people touching my hair so it deffo best to do it myeself.
scary before pic
i was trying out a wrap with dd4.
how short do we think hair could be for this cut to work? What would happen to hair that already had layers in it?
TY Misdee.....that may be the one that convinces me. My current hairstyle is very similar to yours (except nowhere near as glossy and shiney).
Any idea's how I can do this without the fringe? Do I just leave it longer when I cut it?
Also will this style be easy to care for? I have a very slight wave in my top layer. My bottom layers are quite curly though if I let it dry naturally. I suspect that if I layer it though teh top would go curlier as I would take the weight off it. I could straight though. What do you think?
if you dont cut it as short then you wont have the fringe.
i did two cuts this morning, first one (10cms) obviously l;onger, but i wasnt keen on the length, it was neither long enough or short enoug, so took another 5cm off.
SMS if your hair responds to straightening then I think it would work as you would be able to remedy if you wern't happy with look if went a bit more curly. Should think pretty easy to care for.
Look at the MN logo ^ one has definitely got this haircut
I was just going to hack at mine this week until i remembered i have something V important to do on Sunday so will do it Monday instead - following the tips on that clip rather than hacking !!!
Ooh I think I might have a go at this. It's not so much the cost (although I do resent it), it's the bloody time! I can never seem to fit a hair cut in (plus I hate going)
dont think layered hair would work unless you cut it all as short as your shortest layer. i just put mine in a ponytail, and some of my shorter layers were only just past the hair band is, so wouldnt work for me. i'd have to cut off my whole pony tail to reach all my split ends!
the girl on the clip already had layered hair
yes but the'd need to be long layers, surely. my short layers are level with my hairband, more or less ie they only just go in a pony tail.
Right that's it.
I am on a course next week - so need to wait until after that.
I will have a weeks holiday soon (probably the first week in May). That will be might week.
ChasingSquirrels, I haven't seen any of my cousins for years, I doubt it's me
Victorian Squalor, I did the back of mine, just did a ponytail on the crown of my head and then cut into that in teh same way, worked great. Your pic looks great, did you do the back in that?
Noonar, the cutting in is the bit on teh clip where they point the swcissors into the hair and cut it. I think if your layers only just go into a ponytail then it might not work as well but would get rid of thje longer bits.
Come on! Expat is next for pics, and we still need moommothers pics!
<idly wonders if this could be the MNer's secret sign>
SMS the front of mine hits around my chin so not really a fringe. I did wet a bit of my hair up to the shortest I wanted it before I put it in the ponytail so I knew where to cut it.
No, I haven't done the back yet.
So i have sobered up a bit now and have had a bit of a snip, pictures on priofile, im afraid my before picture (taken 2 weeks ago) doesn't show my old hair, it is all one length and very boring, my new hair looks better than pictures show, please ignore bad roots i am getting round to doing them!
Hopefully profile works......
Looks good titsalinaBumsquash. (Love the name BTW!)
blardy hell i had completely missed this thread! Well done to you all!
you see i said it was good i have been well pleased with mine! this is like a revolution, i dont get on mumsnet often enough, cant believe i missed this thread and you lot all going and cutting your hair like i said! wow well done everyone
Thanks, i shall get dp to take a better picture tommorrow when he is in i couldn't get a decent one really!
He will like it, i have a picture that i am looking at now of dp and i, the first piccy we had done together, 6yrs ago now, my hair is exactly the same then as it is now i have cut it and i have always wanted it like that again, dp really likes that style on me to.
Thanks i like my nickname its new for me so im trying it on for size but i like it!
jackbauer - like i say i have only just found this thread so not had time to read it properly and look at everyones pics yet but i looked at your pics at the start and it looks brilliant just like you been to the hairdressers!! well done
Mammapiggy! There you are!
Thanks for strating that thread, had been musing about how to trim the skanky bits off for awhile and am sooo pleased with it!
i am very pleased with my 'mumsnet' do
yes im here! <waves>
im so glad its worked out for everyone, i love it because i hate going to the hairdressers and have not been for years now, and i can do this cut and it looks really good!
im really impressed by you all! [proud emoticon]
misdee i just looked at yours it looks absolutely lovely well done you!
Jack Baur - In the photo where you are holding your ponytail - is the position of your hand where you did the cut?
and when i saw this thread titled 'just cut my own hair and it looks....' i thought ooh i better click on that one in case its someone berating me for ruining their hair! but no thank goodness you all like your ponytail cuts!
so when i next see someone walking down the road sporting a 'mumsnet' hairdo i will give them a nod and a wink
right im off to bed now
SMS, yes, more or less, it was worryingly close to my head!
It looks as though it was 3-4" away from your head in picture.
I am in awe of all of you. I'd love to do this! Mine is already quite layered though and is only just past shoulder length so not sure it would work.
i think if you can get it all into a front ponytail, the it will work
Hmm, the bits at the very back wouldn't quite reach a front pony tail. Maybe I need to wait for it to grow a bit more.
It is about 4 inches away but about 6 inches long (have 2 drunk men helping guess lengths...) you need to add in the bit where it goes into the ponytail as well IYSWIM.
dearprudence, The back of my hair didn't fit into it whihc is why i did another ponytail dead centre on my head.
OK......am tempted to do it at the weekend...but I am away on a course next week so really can't afford for it to go wrong or require too much styling (ATM styling consists of pony tail at nape of neck).
I'm not going to talk you into it! am already hiding from Hecate's thread!
Although I washed mine this morning and din't dry it and I really like it.....
I have worn my hair down all day whereas normally it is up all the time, but it does just fit in a ponytail if I want it to.
AHA! found you
come on, <grabs collar> my sister is on her way over and I need to offer up a sacrifice...
Mine was just past my shoulders when I did it yesterday, and now the layers are kinda on my shoulders and just past the base of my neck at the back. So to get in all my hair I did a few ponytails at different heights, then split the pony tails to to cut in more layers. It does help that I am used to cutting my hair, but this was by for the best and easiest way ever!! My hair is poker straight when used my ghds and I am really happy with it.... go for it girls!!
Just cut DD1's hair. It took two mins and is free. Pic on profile. Thanks for this thread whoo hoooooooo
DP is out for a couple of hours.
Dunno if I dare though.
I want to...but don't think I have teh guts.
And TBH it is the aftercare and "will it suit me" that worries me more than the actually doing it.
I DID MINE LAST NIGHT. (oops caps)
looks ok. can't see an obvious difference but my split ends are gone and i have a mucho nico feathery effect at the front.
im impressed.
I rarely have my hair cut aat all (last time was probably about 12-18m ago).
So if I can pluck up the courage I could have a regular cut.
If I have straighteners there is no real risk right? Cos I could always straighten it and it would just look trendy right?
there's a few of us that have done it and we're all impressed. go for it.
you do realise that there will now be a new haircut called the "MNer" because of this thread.
everywhere i go, if i see someone with a nice choppy layered look i shall know they are a Mner.
Not quite Mamzon...Hecates sister isn't impressed.
Has anyone washed it yet? How does it fair after a hairwash?
DD let me do this to her last night - she returned to Uni today sporting the MNer
. The actual snipping bit did age me, though - but it looks good.
i washed ine this morning, asked Dp if it looked shite and as if i had been attacked by a flymo and he said no, i looked lovely.
of course if he hadn't he'd be fed his own knackers, but no i think it looks ok.
I JUST DID IT
<going to sweep bathroom before DTDs get any ideas1>

Shall we run a book on when the first "Credit Crunch haircut that is sweeping the nation" article reaches the newspapers? I give it two weeks.
badgermonkey.
1 week is my bet!
And for the record, nosy journos reading this, I didn't do it because of the credit crunch, I've always been tight (and I have cut my own hair before - just didn't know there was such an easy way of making it look good!)
my hair is incredibly greasy and needs washing before I pass judgement.
I think it could do with being an inch or 2 shorter (haven't really changed the length) but I am not sure I am brave enough and I don't really want it any shorter at the front (I can just about get it al into a ponytail.
I cut off about 6" in length for the shortest layers.
You missed me off the list <Heartbroken sob>
And for me - I begridge paying £16 for a trim let alone a restyle - so I just don't get it cut.
Also I struggle to find the time.
DP has just come home and hasn't noticed - but to be fair it is stuck in ponytail for the time being until I get it washed and dried.

Sounds good SMS. I actually trimmed a bit more off the back of mine last night. I would wait until you have washed it and then have another snip if you like. At least it won't cost you £30 to have another trim tomorrow
HOw would I trim the back without making it shorter at the front? Put the ponytail further back?
Lol @ credit crunch.
My status on FB reads 'VS just cut her own hair!!' one of the first comments was about the credit crunch (FWIW, if I couldn't afford a haircut I wouldn't have dared do it, I had to be sure if it fucked up that I could run straight round to the salon!!)
Did mine first thing today had to cut it 3 times making the pony tail shorter each time before it really looked 'right' It is amazing though I have somehow kept all the length made it really full and quite cool looking.Best of all the half grown out fringe has disappeared into the general shaggy effect Dp is amazed!
i'd like to say a big thankyou to lee stafford if he is reading this (as if!)
he showed the technique on celeb scissorhands a while ago and i thought it was so clever i wanted to tell evryone!
i heart lee stafford
Has visions of large queues outside hairdressers up and down the land on Monday
correcting mistakes.
badgermonkey - pmsl at 'credit crunch hairdo sweeping nation' haha!!
See I really want to do this
My fingers are getting scissor-urges. But I must not.
a) because I do that every time I have a baby and it always looks crap
b) because my hair ONLY looks Ok if long and is also wavy so I very much doubt it will do what it's meant to and look glamorous
and c) because everyone will know I use mumsnet!!!!!
Hands up. I tried it. Well, the front, or at least the front sides look quite short, but layered short , manily on one side, but I tend to wear a parting to teh left, so this may be it IYSWIM. I too had problems getting the back in, so did another ponytail then ran out of bands. The split ends have gone and I will do the back again maybe on Monday
Is there meant to be layers at the back as well?<dim>
i think it depends how long your hair is to start with saltire
mine is longish and all hair fits into the ponytail so it layers at back too
but jackbauer did it with two ponytails to get layers at back aswell
hope that makes sense
I'm gonna do it to DD tomorrow and if it looks ok will start doing mine as well!
wonders why i spent £48 having my hair cut and 3 year old says he doesn't like it as it is stuck up. his is meant to be stuck up apparently
misdee Yours looks fab. DS1 saw your baby and said "nice baby"
(proud mummy that he can be so nice.)
Sometimes.
mamapiggy - thanks. I will try it again with 2 ponytails. I did wonder because the back doesn't look any different but there are quite noticeable layers at the front. This has saved me money, I was trying to hold off until July to get my haircut at my friends sisters salon back home, but won't need to worry now
Jack and Misdee how do you get your hair so shiny? Mine enver looks like that.
Love the colour of VS hair, mine was a bit like that when I was a teenager and all curly al la carol Decker
muffinbaker, thanks, and say thak you to your ds as well.
saltire, i dont do anything to my hairt to make it shiney, well nothing specvial. i wash and condition it most days, and leave to dry naturally. i use heated hair stuff like dryers or straighners about 10 times a year max. i sold my straighteners as i just wasnt useing them.
i also dye my hair too much. havent done it since before dd4 was born though and she is 5months.
i cut hair a bit more last night and its now off my eyes, which is better. i just did the one ponytail.
I'm so
of you all. I used to cut my own hair, but basically just hacked at it. Over the last 3 years it's grown to about 18" and I couldn't afford a trip to hairdresser.
I met a hairdresser who comes to your house a month or so ago, and in exchange for dh giving her son guitar lessons, she cuts mine and dd's hair. So my hair it TOO BLOODY SHORT to do that cut now. I really really want to.
I'm going to have to grow it, aren't I?
Think I might join the revolution...
Have heard of this before but always been too chicken.
Having heard - and seen - good results I think I will give it a try...
go on wallace!
I've just washed and styled my hair. I love it even more now
I got so many comliments today on my funky hair and it looks so good both dds 11 and 8 want me to do theirs.
Well I did it. I only took about 3 inches of straggly ends off so it doesn't really loook much diffeent. I haven't got the funky layered mumsnet look - I'll have to get a bit braver!
be brave, gooo on
do it again. I took off loads and all the hair I have left feels so healthy.
maybe I should open some wine
Right, I'm off to do mine.
I last went to the hairdressers in 2007
. I find the whole business tedious and expensive so have gone for 'unkempt witch' look in recent years.
This could be the answer I've been looking for.
I'm glad I have found others who usually go for the "unkempt witch" look
Very tempting: love the fringe, but how do I get it to work with very long (think below waist) hair?
I want to lose some length, but not much more than 3". Could I take a layer from my crown down to just above my ear and make that into the ponytail, IYSWIM? Would that work?
I misread the first line of your first post and thought you'd written it looks frigging awful!!!
I'm a bit disappointed having followed the thread that it turns out it looks nice, tbh.
I have just washed mine and it is currently drying naturally.
The front is haning around the right length - around my mouth. Back is still quite long though - even the layers. How do you get the back shorter without making the front shorter?
The other thing I have noticed - at the moment the front looks more stepped than feathery. Have I done something wrong?
Oh and DP still hasn't noticed
. It is over 6" shorter at the front!
Wallace - don't open the wine until after you've cut your hair. Goodness knows what will happen otherwise
OOh I want to cut my hair but mine is too short for this!
I might try dd, how does it work if she already has a fringe?
hmmmm....naturally dried look isn't great...I stick out at the sides (and DP still hasn't noticed).
I think the straighteners will calm that tomorrow....
pictures please.
I left mine to dry naturally, as usual and it looks ok, except the front bits which seem to stick out, but it looks ok.
Oh I would love to try this but I have shorter hair - sort of chin length bob, not long enough for a pony tail. Reckon I could still cut my own? Paid 30 quid recently for a very iffy cut and T&G and thinking I could not do worse!
I dried mine roughly with the hairdryer and then lightly straightened bits afterwards.
Looks like this now. (Excuse pic have been to a wedding reception and drank mucho wine, lol.
VS that looks fab!!
dd3 asked me when i was dyeing my hair pink again
Tempted, very tempted.
But I've got VERY thick hair and lots of it. And it's nearly waist length and wavy.
Hmmm, what to do, what to do?
I used to cut my hair like this when I was at university. You may call it "the Hunker cut", if you like
Fab, isn't it? I remember doing it one night in halls and freaking out loads of the other girls, who squeaked incoherently at me about not cutting your own hair.
Works a treat though, eh? You all look fab!
hey victoriansqualor yours looks brilliant really professional!
Amapoleon - i dont think it matters if your dd slready has a fringe it will just blend in with the rest of the layers i think
gizmo - i dont know about really really long hair like that but mine is quite long and i just put the whole lot into the ponytail and then just cut however much i want off, it shouldnt matter really if your hair is longer because you will still get the same layered effect its just the layers will be longer so it will be less dramatic iyswim
wow well done everyone!
sparkyfartdust - i last went to the hairdressers in 2006!!!
slightlymadstirrup - i think jackbauer got hers shorter and more layered at the back by doing another ponytail at the back and then doing a similar thing with that.
i dont know why it would be stepped rather than feathery though? do you like it?
Ooh the hair in the vid looks surprisingly nice, would never think to put my hair into a ponytail to cut it!
I usually cut my own hair, or go to local college where it's £5 for a trim and blow dry. May have to try this style tho, very nice and fancy some layers and fringy bits.
when I woke up this morning it looked a bit like this (except no fringe and not that colour}
Then I brushed it and it went like this - well not quite
When I have straighened it I hope it will be more like this
I am not doing reall photo's of me cos a) I am shy and b) I have hideous conjunctivitis and will probably scare you all let alone the little children sat on your laps.
slightlymad -
you will just have to not brush it then! the one where you woke up this morning looks nice!
Mine looks far better this morning. I normally wash mine in teh shower every day, but did it last nihgt. The layer seem to sit more round my face at the front, and I still ahve length! How does everyone elses look this morning?
It was.
I guess I just need to know what products to use to keep the defined waves
god your all brave.i know hairdressers can cost a lot but its my little treat-i do dye it at home.i like my hair as it is and wouldnt trust myself to start getting scissor happy
Just done mine - I didnt take too much off, but its now shorter at front and you can see the layers, it does look nice, the photo doesnt show how nicely its sitting - love it!!! Took me all of 5 minutes!!!! I would have taken more off but wanted it long enough at front to get in a pony tail easily. Just uploading pics
pics on profile. ty MN for saving me £40!!!
Oh it looks fab giraffes, you are very preddy.
Your profile pictures made me laugh too, it tells a little of your mumsnet history.
Any DIY home dying tips? Can I do it with a used teabag?
My hair could do with some (cheap) colour!
Do none of your local hairdressers or colleges do model days? That's how I get mine done. It's £15 for a cut and £20 for cut and colour.
Its not that I cant afford it nappyaddict, more that its a bit of a laugh.
its finding time as well to go to the hairdressers
that is true. sometimes when i haven't got time i get a mobile one to come to the house. if it's just for a cut cos that still only costs £15 but if it's for cut and colour she charges £35 and i can't justify spending the extra!
yes i agree misdee its finding the time, its such a hassle going to the hairdressers
i also have a bit of a phobia with hairdressers. last cut was in 07.
i know what you mean. there's only 2 girls i will allow to cut my hair cos they know exactly how i like it!
It also helps when trying someone new if you tell them you've had a bad experience and it's put you off a bit. They ask you every 3 minutes if it's ok to cut this much off lol. slightly annoying but least you get it how you want.
i think ive got a phobia of them too actually cos i never ever really liked going for some reason
I also have a phobia about hairdressers. When I was 5 my best friend had her hair cut "short" I begged to have mine the same and my mum eventually gave in. Then my friend moved and I didn't want it "short" anymore and I begged to have my long hair back. I didn't ever have my hair cut again my anyone until I was about 12. And even then I would only go toa friend of my grandma's who literally just trimmed the dead ends off.
Now I go to hairdressers about once every 2years. I just don't have the time. Don't know the ettiquette.....I would like to find a mobile hairdresser who could do it in my own home but so far I have been unsuccessful.
Mine had an advert on <<whispers>> netmums. Sometimes see them advertise in the paper aswell.
Have just done DD'S hair, it took one minute and looks fine.
Just straightened.
Looks better - still a bit stepped at the front (although I have tapered it a little with a little more freehand hacking. I think it looks worse as it has uncovered my grey layer - need to invest in some "nice n easy" I think
.
I think my problem is that I have just done it the wrong length. The step would look fine an inch or 2 shorter as it woudl be a fringe. If it was longer it would stil over my shoulder - but it is right on my ear....
Anyway. DP still hasn't noticed
Ha ha... i've just done it and i could just about convince myself it was Suzy Quatro-esque when my dh walked in and said i looked like Kath or Kim... one of those... oh well only 8 weeks...
we will all have matching hair!!
Mine is very like yours Giraffe - but with a bit of a step on the RHS - and not as dark
If I toss my head about (which of course I have been doing!) you can see all the layers swishing which I love!
I just gave myself a "mumsnet" and it looks fabbo.
I used 2 bobbles though 1 for the main pony tail and another just above where i wanted to cut to hold it better. It will prob need a bit a trim in the morning as its a lil bit greasy at mo but i like it and DH too.
I can't believe that this hasn't made it onto teh "discussions of the day"
How many Mumsnet hairdo's are we up to now?
Mine is growing on me (the straightened version).
I am going to do a home dye next weekend (probably a wash in wash out rather than semi-permanent)

and Hunker!
Awesome! Let the revolution continue!
I was out all day today and it was a bit tangly when I got back so have washed it and it is all flicky and 70's cool looking, should be straighter after I've slept on it. Love it!
(Oh, and I took a bit more off the back last night after wine o'clock with DH and his BM watching in horror, looks good though
)
Sms, has he noticed yet?
Re the shiny hair thing I am the same as misdee, I very rarely dry it and don't own straighteners, I just wash (with Lush stuff) and leave it to dry on it's own.
NOPE

Is he normally this uselss?
Are you planning revenge depnding on how long it takes for him to spot it?
To be fair I normally have it tied bak in a basci ponytail at teh nape of my neck. When it is down though it was like Misdee's before pic but a bit curlier. Now it is like Giraffe's after photo - so quite a difference!
TBH I think that he has noticed...he just hasn't said anything.
I am away Tuesday night. I was thinking of putting something hideous on the Tesco order for him to cook Tues night. What do you reckon?
Oh yes, something really complicated or that smells while cooking (fresh fish?!)
I don't want to starve my DDs - they will need to eat it
<Oh and he is a trained chef and will therefore be able to handle most things I throw at him...I could remove all of the alcohol from the order [evil cackle]>
Trained chef? Make him cook them fishfingers and alphabet smiley things! My mum always hated making convenience foods for us as she was a cook and it went against every bone in her body!
Oi Bauer, you left me off the list!
Well, after experimenting on DD's hair further up (or down) the thread (depending on what settings you have) I bit the bullet and did mine.
It looks fab. Doesn't look much different style wise, as I have layers anyway, but it's taken all the split ends off and tidied the old layers up and it looks all healthy and shiney again. Haven't got a problem with 'steps', but my hair is bra strap long so the layers are further down my hair anyway.
I'm really pleased, thanks for the thread/link
what a great style but why, in the celeb scissorhands vid, is the ponytail on the side and not the middle?
anyone?? about to go to bed might try this in the morning got a haystack on my head!
I was thinking if you can't do this cut if you've already got layers what are you all going to do when you need to cut it again and you have cut layers into it?
Does it on the side to make it a cut with a side parting, and sweeping fringe (I think!)
I did it, and I've already got layers. It just tidied them up (missed the bit where it said you shouldn't!)
Apparently it only works if you've got long layers.
Oh man i am just CRINGING when i read this thread!!!!
I am a hairdresser and have seen some shockers!!
But if its working for you, go for it, your saving money! Hair cuts are a rip off.....
If you are cutting your own fringe wet, remember it will bounce up. To cut layers, just pull up sections of your hair straight out from your head and chip them (cut it jaggedy not blunt).
If you are getting someone else to cut the back length, tilt your head foward a bit when they cut it.
I've done it too, thanks for this thread.
Haven't had time to go to the hairdressers and now my hair looks healthy and bouncy
nappy - you are very anti this hair cut aren't you? Why?
Its the same as my hairdresser used to do it back when i could actually afford to go (she did choppy layers) i don't actually have ANY spare money, even for DS1s birthday this week so i don't go to the hairdresser - which would cost me about £25 anyway and this is better than the way i normally do my own hair ie I cut my ponytail and DH levels it off.
Whoever asked why the ponytail on the side, it's because the lady had a side parting, if you have a central parting it needs to be in the middle of your head.
It works with layers but would only work with longer hair I think as shorter hair wouldn';t go into the pnoytail.
Alicemumma - Hopefully we are avoiding the normal problems as you cut when dry, and don't blunt cut it.
Nice one Lizzy! I think we need a flickr group or something to show off our swishy hair
I have short hair and was wondering if it would work with lots of little ponytails. You can tell I am desperate for a hair cut.
Ooh are we going to have a haircut clique now?
I'm still being tempted but I know once I start I can't stop. I am very scissor happy.
it is a shame I look crap with short hair.
Not against it just thinking it would only work the first time and then not again if you had short layers.
My DH hasn't noticed either! And it is a good four inches shorter and much curlier/bouncier at the front with the layers!
MrsShad, i bet he's thinking, 'there's something different about my wife, but i don't know what it is... better be quiet until she tells me what it is...'
...i think that's what was going on with my dh yesterday...
Well all my colleagues noticed.
They thought it looked good.
Then I told them I did it myself and they were suitably shocked.
Still nothing from mr SMS then?
At least you have the appreciation from colleagues to keep you going.
Shall we place bets on how long it takes him and Mr Shad? Are they normally this useless?!
Although to be fair Dh only noticed as when he got back I was preening and had it down, which I never normally do!
Nope.
I think he must have noticed but isn't going to grace me with a comment.
Just washed and straightened it again. Is definately stepped at teh front....but seems OK after I have slept on it
Well I was brave and I have done it Thanks!!!!! it looks like I have been to hairdressers, it is nice and choppy layers and I can't help swishing and flicking it about.........lol
I also did my daughters and she is happy with it too . So thanks to all who suggested it I have saved about 50 quid it would of been about 30quid for me and about 20 quid for dd.So I am really happy.Even my other half noticed which is amazing!!
Yay! More recruits! it's good isn't it?
[renegade] I'm having my regular 6 week cut at the hairdresser's tomorrow. Just had my reminder text
Hey, if you have the time and money to get it done at the hairdressers while sitting down and having a nice cup of coffee brought to you while you read a magazine I am not going to begrudge you that!
though. I am only overexcited about this as I don't have the time/childcare/money to do that!
But are you at least going to request the MN?
Thanks for this....tried it on Saturday....delighted with the results....bit like a "Rachel" cut.
Oooooh. I am very very tempted. Last had a hair cut about 18 months ago. Hmmmm. I have very curly hair though.
Will sleep on it I think. <watches thread>
It has to be said that my hair was far more unkempt before BabyDragon started at nursery
I cut DD's hair last night as she's back at school today - she was a bit
about me trying out a cut I read about on the internet so she only let me trim it a bit, but she seemed happy enough and all the dead ends are gone at least!
I'd do it myself if my hair was longer, I used to cut my own hair in a bob anyway - just used long dressmaking scissors and a steady hand
but I love my hairdresser, she's now a good mate of mine and I don't grudge paying her as she seems to know what my hair should look like better than me!
I am in desperate need of a haircut and break out in a cold sweat just thinking about going to the hairdresser.
Right - I am definitely going to go for it tomorrow morning when the dcs are at nursery. Will report back...
I had just said to DH this morning that I really need to get my hair cut but I loathe going to the hairdressers - I kinda like someone else doing it but don't like the forced chat and finding the time...
Anyway, just read this thread (skimmed most of it - it's very long!) and gave it a go... Looks really good. Did it twice as just wanted to test it first then I did it again and cut off much more. Fab difference. My hair is very thick and very curly and it worked so well...
Thanks to all those who tried it first and convinced me
OMFG this thread is the answer to my prayers!!
I hate going to the hairdressers, only a little less than I hate going to the dentist
Have recently been getting dh to cut my hair. Lets just say that a large animal vet's talents lie in places other than hairdressing
The pics you've all been uploading are amazing, they all look so professional.
I think I may have to have a try. Frankly, it can't look much worse (can it?!)
Keep em coming!
And we've made the homepage now as well, it's only a matter of time before we are in the papers
<frantically deletes pics>
Do it 2happy!
wow this is still going strong then! amazing, glad its working for everyone, its so funny to think of mumsnetters across the country all doing their ponytail cuts isnt it!
Erm, I should be on that list because I usually cut my own hair.
I put my head over the bath and cut the length that way. I did try the ponytail method, on dd first then me. Trouble is our hair isn't quite long enough. I may do what someone else suggested and have another ponytail at the top of the head to get at the length.
I can't add you unless you have teh official MN.
<turns up nose>
The back of my hair didn't fit in teh pnoytail so I just did one further back and it worked fine. I did it on teh crown at dead centre so that it woudl be symetrical though, if that helps!
I just said I used the ponytail! I did say that!
Have you seen dd on my profile pics after her MN haircut?
PUT ME ON THE GODDARN LIST!
Have done it!!!
I really like the effect, really nice layers and taken a lot of weight off my (very thick) hair. Not completely satisfied with the length, may get dh to take a bit off the bottom when he gets home. I'm not sure why, but when I went over it again, it didn't seem to get much shorter, just more layered. Probably being dim... Hey ho, will definitely be doing it again. Will load pics in a mo, ds1 just woken up (what timing!)
Thanks, JB!
OK have uploaded pics. Don't think they're great pics, but never mind. I cut it dry after it had been in a ponytail all day and haven't styled it or anything, so reckon a little axtra off the bottom and a straighten and I shall be a new lady! Ish.
Or indeed Extra
Right, I'm going to do mine tomorrow. I have frizzy wavy hair but have been straightening it the last few days and really like it. So, am going to take a little bit off and see what happens... Scared and excited here
does this only work if you have or want a fringe?
I am sooooo tempted to do this, the only thing stopping me is if it goes wrong and I go to the hairdressers and they do that "did you cut this yourself?" thing. It's bringing me out in a cold sweat.
Just say "No
My sister's friend did, ^ apparently ^ she is a qualified hairdresser but I was fuming when I saw the state of it'
I've done it.
Was going to wait till tomorrow, but was feeling brave. It's great. No pics though, sorry.
<swishes hair>
LOl VS, will remember that!
Add me to the I've done it list.
I can't afford a proper haircut (been twice in 10 years, last time was when I got married, and it bores me stupid sat there while they snip away for hours) so usually hack bits off myself with the kitchen scissors.
DD's looked on fascinated, then amused, then in horror as I chopped the end of the ponytail off, then they looked quite impressed when I revealed the finished effect.
I saw 3 women in town today with similar hairstyles and thought "I wondered if the MN"
JeanPoole - I don't have a fringe and din't want one, I just put the ponytail a bit further back and it's fine
Oooooooooooh i'm gonna do mine later once dd is in bed!!! Haven't had a haircut for aaages and in desperate need of one!
I'm going to do this tomorrow - just need to get some decent scissors
wow home page!!!
What a great technique, thanks! Have been cutting my own hair for years (have a kind of short/pob thing. posh spice's hair not the character who went pfffftttttt) but did this today and made the front look great
still got to sort out the back but v pleased. Was actually considering going to the hairdresser (did go last year sometime).
So do I qualify - as a short version of the mumsnet?!
that looks really nice!
I have a fro so won't be trying it
..but very nice
asuwere where abouts do you , do the pony? in the middle of the back of your head, or like a high pony?
Oh I really want to try it now. I haven't been near a hairdresser since I got married in 2000 and am bored arseless with my hair. I am trying to wait until tomorrow so that I am finished work for the week and won't get the piss ripped out of me when it looks shitey.
<<twitches scissor fingers>>
jean have you watched the video clip? the ponytail is meant to go on the front of your head!
how are ya anyway jp, alright?
yeah i watched the vid but i don't have a fringe and don't want one so i don't know where exactley to put the pony.
im really good thanks mamapiggy, ive just done a thread on chat saying
"today i have had such a great day with dd
we went to the country park for a picnic and walk feed the ducks.
with my friend and her dd
they played so well together running around and laughing and holding hands
awww
dd 22 months was v good and held my hand and walked nicely with no buggy.
then before picking up daddy from work we called into next and boots
then tonight we had a bbq in the garden
we have just finished the day off with nice bath.
no temper trantrums today
what a good day ive had with dd, i know i often moan on here so i thought i would say when we have had a good day too
how are you? hows things?
awww thats lovely jeanpoole! glad you had a good day! dd2 has been getting better at walking holding hand too, seems so grown up bless! dd1 always used to be a bit mad so we had to have her on reins a lot but dd2 is much calmer!
i dont think you moan a lot on here btw
mp
yeah it seems really grown up walking instead of being in the buggy!
i like your cakes on your profile.

For those who wonder about the fringe thing the layers at teh front of mine hits my chin, so not really a fringe. Have a looka t the pics I posted at teh top to see, I cut it about 3-4 inches from my head in the ponytail.
well i used to like baking cakes and stuff but then when i had the girls i stopped and never seemed to have enough time to do it but i have just started getting into it again, im not very good though its very basic the stuff i do lol!!
i dont know why ive developed the strange habit of photographing fairy cakes and jam tarts but they seem to be gone so soon after making them in my house!
plus it gives me something to put on my profilepage as i am paranoid about putting pics of myself or the children on the internet for some reason

So, all you ladies wodnering whether to do it, that is 38 Mner's and their daughters who have done this, and no tears yet!
jackbauer i cant believe how many there are its quite amazing, really taking mn by storm isnt it
if you DON'T want a fringe do what i did....put the ponytail in eth same place as on the vid (ie top of your head and use another bobble to keep the hair together just above where you will cut.
If you are really bothered about where the layers go then wet your hair up to where you want the highest layer to go (totally robbed that from someone further down the thread!)
(sorry for getting in middle fo chat
)
mp,i esp like the look of the big one on the top
i'm posting pics on here tomorrow as im making Meringue swans, or should i say i'm going to try to.
i will watch out for that then!
dd 's are just getting to the age where they like to 'help' me make cakes! they find it all quite funny!
MoM please could you clarify the wetting hair bit? thanks...
ok cool, i'll look you up
will try!!
<scrolls down to find it>
By JackBauer on Fri 17-Apr-09 21:32:23
SMS the front of mine hits around my chin so not really a fringe. I did wet a bit of my hair up to the shortest I wanted it before I put it in the ponytail so I knew where to cut it.
Plagiarism!
Will this method work for your minge do you think?
'The MN Minge'
I know mammap! I only started this thread so everyone could tell me how fantastic I looked, I didn't expect everyone esle to steal my thunder

OK, I've done it too. Can't really see the difference as I wore my hair curly today but I'll straighten it tomorrow and see what's what. My hair is a bit shorter and looks a lot thicker now so am optimistic. At the very worst I've learned how to trim my own hair so I don't have to beg my mother any more!
"Here is my minge before, note the bedraggled edges and split ends - and here is my minge after, all layered, with a fringe and looking fab!"
Ooh, 39!
"Note also my tastefully layerd armpit hair, going for the full lentil weavery effect'
Is that a dare...
MN minge, that is...
Where do you tie the ponytail? At the front top or the front bottom?

Mine's a disaster! I did a ponytail at the front, then one on top of my head but my layers are really stepped and i'd still like more length off it. Don't think i spent enough time cutting into it (and couldn't really see what i was doing properly) - think i'll have another go, or get DH to try and tidy it
The cutting in is the important bit, don't think about it or try and plan it just snip away!
BTW, not adding you to list until you like it. You are messing with my stats!
Just done it. I had hair almost the same as the model in the link and it has come out fabulously. Can't believe it. Is definitely in my top three haircuts ever. I am stunned.
Will be looking out for other ladies with similar hair cuts in my area now and will know they are mnetters.
ahhh... the bonus of having curly hair.. I can cut it myself, completely bugger it up, and even I am none the wiser :-D
OK, shall give it another go. This has probably been covered... but do i do little snips? Or deep snips? Or does that depend on how long i want the layers?!
Put the scissors parallel to your hair (so sticking into the ponytail) about an inchish (or more depending on how long your hair is, but about an inch was ok for me) and then starts snipping while moving them around.
That's about it really.
I just cut it off with one big cut and then tidied it up. I can't tell you how impressed I am with it, thoroughly over excited in fact
.
Thank you!! Am off upstairs
Ah! no I understand- thanks MoM (and JB too, of course)
Right, much better! (It didn't take me all night, honest
) Am going to give it a wash and a straighten this morning then go from there, think i might do the fringe a bit shorter. But am very pleased to be rid of my scraggy ends!! Had £50 saved up since xmas to get it done but not found the time - which means i've now got some pennies to spend on myself! Yay!
Just posting so I can find again later.....my last haircut cost me 50 euros and didnt look that different, so I'm gonna try this tonight
wonder if lee stafford knows about this thread - he's gooorgeous.
(i'd try the cut but my hair is like that anyway)
I did mine last night and it looks brilliant. If I can manage a photo where my skin doesnt look hideous I will post it. I didnt end up with loads off the length but had a huge bowl full of hair when I was done
I would I spent a minute cutting the legth and then five cutting in (very important for me as I have very very thick hair).
Have cut my own hair before so wasn't too apprehensive - it grows back after all! I am going to get a new hair dye kit and I will be all glam for less than a fiver!
Thank you Lee Stafford.
Well today, I blow dried but not straightened it so it's semi straight, it looks not too much different, shorter, thicker and slightly layered so I think I'm going again tonight to make it a good bit shorter. In fact, if I had brought my scissors with me I'd do it in the loos here at work I'm that excited!
Have loaded a pic.
DH didn't notice... when I asked if he'd spotted anything different he said "have you washed your hair?"
Note to self... wash hair more often.
<swishes new do>
I tried to bounce to the train like the woman on the shampoo add used to and her hair would bounce up and down with pure life and shininess as she walked. Think I just looked like a pillock though.
Well we know we've had posh hair cuts, even if our dozy DHs don't.
OMG I just did and am very pleased with the results!
Add me to the list please!
I think it could do with more llayering at the back though - how do I do that?
I have just done this and I don't like the result at all!
It's a disaster! Wail! Now I'm going to have to go to the hairdresser and be told off for trying to do it myself...
Oh no, why? What don't you like?
I'm still dithering because a) I have long wavy hair and don't think it will make that much difference and b) whenever hairdressers cut into my hair like that it looks shite so am rather dubious.
It just looks awful, with random bits cut at random lengths. My hair is naturally very straight, perhaps that's why? On the other hand perhaps it's just that I'm very cack-handed with scissors...
Anyway I'm not doing that again!
I am jealous of all of you that have done it successfully!
Ok, you've decided me, I'm not doing it!
Oh mammya, what don't you like? What's wrong?
Well done everyone else though, will redo list later (takes frigging ages
)
Ooh you're back Jack
How do I get more layers round the back?
It's all wrong!
Doesn't look remotely like yours, Jack!
I have managed to make an emergency appointment with a hairdresser for tomorrow morning, phew! In the meantime my hair is in a very messy looking bun...
Right, first of all, stop making me feel guilty you swines! I didn;t make you do it
For layers at the back I did another ponytail on the very crown of my head, dead centre this time. And didn't cut it too short so I didn;t get cowlicks
Mammya why doesn't it look like mine? Are you blonde? that would make a difference
Never can resist a dare. Just done it and it looks ......
not bad. I have had worse and paid a lot more in the past. My hair is very very thick with a slight wave to it and as I am still breastfeeding there is a lot of it so is quite forgiving and can take a lot of inexpert hacking.
Well yours looks lovely and mine looks rubbish, that's the main difference really
The cut is all wrong, I just don't think I'm very good at doing this. Maybe it is because I am blonde...
Not trying to make you feel guilty by the way, I am just envious of your fabulous free haircut.
Wow - just rushed upstairs and got snipping - I am so impressed! It looks fab - try it!
It cut all the dead wood out and loads of weight!
Forgot to thank JB. Thanks JB! I was [hmmm] now
Forgot to thank JB. Thanks JB! I was
now
Cheers Jack; will have another go later.
mammya, wasn't having a blonde dig there, jut that it willlook different as I am brunette .....um....
My after pics were soooo styled with much tweaking of strands as well
Is it too short? too long? not layery enough and too 'steppy? let me (the person who knows fuck all about haircuts, or style) help
You;re welcome toolly! and pippinella!
<makes note to do list. again>
Yes it's too 'steppy' and not layered enough. And the layers are all the wrong lengths. WAIL!
I didn't think you were having a blonde dig, or only in an ironic fashion
I love blonde jokes anyway!
JB - don't you copy and paste the list each time??
mammapiggy, step this way to see the meringe swans.
over here
Mom, Oh yes, but then I have to go through posts to make sure I don;t miss anyone, and add them on, and scroll up and down as my memory is rubbish
<self indulgent whine>
If it's too steppy then I think you haven't feathered it enough, it needs more snipping.
If you only do a few snips there will only be a few lengths, but the more you do while moving the scissors around (I took them out of the pony each time) the more different lengths so the more layers.
does that makes sense? and are you brave enough to cut more
Still tempted, but I forgot to buy some nice snippy scissors today.
I don't suppose the kitchen scissors will do at all.
I used the kitchen scissors. I wasn't going to get hair on my nice expensive sewing scissors
<JB has strict priorities>
Don't think my kitchen scissors are quite sharp enough.
The only other option is either nail scissors or pinking shears.
<I used my embroidary sisscors. I guess sharp helps....>
I have also been doing a bit of self ananlysis of my layers whilst I was on my lonesome in my hotel room last night.... I think my ponytail was on top of my head (but right at the front) - the geometry of which means that you will get 2 batches of layers the same length - creating a step rather than a graduation. Not explaining myself very well so you will have to trust me.
I think that yoiu need to make sure that the ponytail is in front of your hairline and "floppy" like in the video.
If you want a fringe cut quite close to teh ponytail elastic (like they did in the original video on youtube). If you want no fringe cut further away - like the position of JackBaurs hand in her photo where she is holding her ponytail up in the air. Remember you can alsways trim more off to make it shorter it is difficult (though not impossible with extensions) to make it longer!
Happy cutting everyone...I really love mine now!

(mammya and meggymoosmum am only adding you provisionally until you admit your hair looks great
)
I done my dds (10) hair this morning. It was half way down her back and all one length before. Now its shoulder length with a fringe. Im impressed. My own hair is quite a similar style already and not long enough to try cutting this way yet.
I love the way the DD's are letting you all cut their hair based ona thread on MN
DH still not noticed and I cut another couple of inches off today. Now a) even shorter and b) much choppier/messier due to layers. Looks good.
I have done mine too and love it. Thanks all!
I have done mine too and love it. Thanks all!
I've had 5 more attempts just now
and now got it the way I want it. I didn't seem to be making the back any shorter although it was getting steadily shorter round the sides. So I took all my courage in my hands, thought feck it, and put the ponytail high up in what I thought was the middle top of my head and chopped away. Now it looks more layered round the back and I'm really loving it. The only problem is stopping myself hacking more and more off it!
ah. oops. Guess there's no way of deleting a post huh? lol.
Excellent
<rubs hands ala Mr Burns>
(will ignore that lotsofteddies)
Eyeballs, that's what I did, have cut back twice now. It shouldn't work like that but it does!
I should've known I wouldn't even be able to name change properly! Only did it as was going to post a pic, but wont now as I know lots of mums up the school use MN and I don't want them reading my history!
Sorry, am rambling. Absolutely love the cut though, looks great.
You;ll just have to change again,a nd be cryptic
<narrows eyes and glances round>
quick, do it now while no-one is looking
Still haven't managed to get the back shorter. So, to be clear - do I do another ponytail but nearer the crown than the front, and just cut across again? Or do I do the 'cutting in' thing with the thinning scissors? [thick emoticon]
At the risk of finding myself sued when it all goes wrong, I was finding the same thing so I put a ponytail slap bang on top of my head as central as I could get it and cut from there. It seems to be shorter and more layered at the back now.
Thanks eyeball
.
I can't afford to sue
.
Oh my goddy god what have I done? I will see you in court, Mumsnet!
Okay, here are my pics ...
Before - long horrid grown out layers
During - 80s throwback
After - oh my Christing Jesus
Basically cut it waaaaaaaaay too short - I can't have a fringe because of my stupid cowlick yet that is kinda what I have. Feeling a bit sick about how much hair is in the bin. On the plus side, I usually walk away from the hairdressers looking more or less the same and feeling a bit let-down - that is NOT an issue today! I still believe it's a good method, just wish I hadn't been quite so gung-ho about it. Now off out to buy pretty clips, then to my mum's and gran's for (brutally) honest opinions. Wonder if DH will notice?
Maybe it looks directional? <clutching at straws smiley>
<deep breath>
I'm going to do it. /now.,
Dita - can't comment on your hair, I was too distracted by your gorgeous baby. What wonderful chubby little arms!
<I will not get broody, I will not get broody...>
oh god oh god
its a bit like a mullet
Dita - I think it looks fine
I did my yesterday. It's wild
(wild as in '70s rock chick 'cos I dyed it last week too and it was a tad completely different colour darker than I was expecting
and it is wavy too, so the cut has made it a bit curlier) I only snipped a tiny bit off though, with ponytails in 3 different places, would have liked more off the length at the back really.
DH has been away since Tuesday, so no-one has noticed (DSs not interested), although DS2s teacher didn't appear to see me yesterdat
. TBH it doesn't look much different, just a layery mess instead of a straight one (whoever said "unkempt witch" - that's me too
), and I have had a similar cut from the hairdressers (and worse ones) so I aren't worried. If I can get it past DM at the weekend I'll happily do it again.
Dita I think you look great...just blow dry with a barrel brush to fix the cowlick (I have one too)
Anyhoo..ADD ME..I just did and love it
<cries>
I'm going to GHD it to death and see if it improves
right its GHD'd. Looks a bit better
its so layered though! I'm a wuss with hair. I feel shaky. I think I look shit.
Going to go ask RL opinions from some mates
SHIT <legs it before anyone blames her personally>
<comes back sheepishly>
Pics mamag? We won't lie to you! Is it just different and that is freaking you out as if you were in hairdressers they would have done it a lot more slowly so you woudl have been used to it?
I agree to wash adn dry it before deciding dita, I think it looks fine, but mine looks better once washed and styled. If you cut loads of length off the weight has gone, making it boing back up again <technical term>
Oh and thank god for you allthreeways (there's a filthy sounding name...) to add the balance!
Well I love mine. I had straggly, thin, no style wavy-frizzy hair and now I have lovely layered swishy hair and it's given me exactly what I need at the front, enough short bits to soften my puddingy spam but not a fringe as such. It's the nearest I've had to a style since about 1990, seriously.
I did my DD's last night, looks fab and she loves it. I then did mine (always experiment on your child's hair first!), and again it is fab. Washed it, used GHD's this morning and it looks like I have been to the hairdressers. This is the general cut I have each time though, it just looks much better as I have more longer layers in the sides (which I am always asking my hairdresser to do...). Thank you JB!!!
Dita - yours look fab, you suit it!
Dita... it looks gooooood. You also look a lot like my sister, which is nice, cos I might try & persuade her to do the cut
MamaG...we need pics!
I will hopefully upload a pic later
<sob>
Does it work on kids?
EldonAve, my 5 yo had longish stragley hair and I did the pony tail thing and voila, she now has a flicky bob with a long fringe. She is v happy.
Well Mr S has sort of noticed - he asked if I had trimmed my fringe as there were some hairs in the wash basin...

babysteps Mrs S!
I cut the back again today; I am so thrilled with it I tell you! Phoned my sis earlier, (who had just been to the hairdressers) to boast about my wonderful flicky hair
Waits patiently for MamaG pics.
Yes but there are still no pipcs!
I have Pointed It Out to Mr S, who "thought it looked a bit fluffier."
<<sighs heavily>>
<<gives up>>
JA=ack....OMG I never thought of that!!! Should I change my name?
I chose it cos I have fostered, adopted and had natural children, this is a parenting forum??
I am really impressed - must try this!
I've cut my own hair for many many years - just don't like hairdressers (tho' I'm sure they are all lovely as individuals!), the trendiness makes me nervous. And I can't justify the cost. But my limit is getting it more or less (on a good day) the same length with a few wifty bits at the front.
Sometimes it takes me a couple of weeks to find the time to get it all the same length!
Have washed mine once since sat and it looks good I have it up today and it even looks better up than it did before.it is just the shape I love but an going to grow it a bit longer and it will be perfect
Somehow managed to completely miss this thread, which is v. annoying as I am Queen of Cutting Own Hair
and have been for years and years.
I HATE going to the hairdresser's with a passion, and I resent paying so much money for someone to ignore everything I tell them and still give me old-lady hair. After one disasterous visit to Toni & Guy I had to run into the loos of the nearest department store and ball my eyes out, and I swore then and there that I'll never go to the hairdresser's again.
Anyone who hasn't tried it yet but is thinking about it - GO FOR IT! You can do it bit by bit and then stop when you get to a look you like.
And in the end, even if it's not great, it will grow again
holy shit jackbauer, it looks fab!!!!!!!!!
you seriously did that yourself?
Add me to the list! I my mum did mine today and it looks really good, I am very impressed. My mum took some photos so when she emails me them i'll add them to my profile.
Thank you for the nice comments. Feedback in RL positive too (my dad said I looked like a Cannes starlet trying to pop to the shops in mufti (this was whilst wearing sunnies) and my mum keeps telling people proudly that I did it myself, which is funny when the last time I cut my own hair, c. 1984, she went mental
).
MamaG mine is utterly mullet, which is karma for laughing at DD being born with one. I do feel your pain because I felt very sick and shaky right afterwards and no one was on the thread then either. 24 hours later I am feeling a bit better, though I've just noticed that it's taken advantage of me not really paying attention (tidying and attending to DD) to dry all fluffy and mad
All3Ways I own neither a barrel brush nor a hairdrier, so will just have to wait for it to grow!
Forgot to say DH swears it looks okay, and DD vomited into it
Well not only did I cut mine, I coloured it as well!
Admittedly just a semi permanent one, I haven't had it coloured snce my Carol Decker days!
All3ways, sorry, it could just be my dirty mind. And now I know what it means I feel even worse! Are you fairly new? there are some veyr non-parenting names around on MN, that's why I love it!
<digs self in deeper hole>
Dita, baby vomit highest form of praise IMO
Highlander - Oh yes, I am queen of new hair. If you look carefully you can see distracted toddlers in the background with cbeebies on so I can hack with scissors
dita you look GREAT!
Fab pic.
Thanks
It is very very 70s!

You can look at my pics of my dd after I did her hair! It's the first pic on my profile. I think it rather suits her.
I'm not putting pics up, I like to remain anonymous on here.
my pic is on.
Right well i've put a couple of pictures on now too. Typically the final one that shows it in all its glory looks a small picture. Oh and mine is a longer version than everyone elses by the looks of it but I did get mum to take a good 2-3 inches off. She has promised to try and do it again much shorter next time.
Whoo I look cool
(Thanks Jack
)
SMS my photos are in a post a page or two back but might stick one in my profile later.
shiver yours looks fab!
bluebump you have lovely hair
I am just updating my MN mates as we speak....shout if I have missed you in an hour
Hello girls,
I've jumped on the bandwagon too. So glad for your moral support, I could never pluck up the courage before (a couple of times got as far as brushing it all forward but then chickened out at the last minute). But now I've been and gone and done it, so there!
erm, no pics yet. Still got to do something to my fringe anyway.
Feels great not to be enslaved to the hairdressers - empowerment!
Welcome to teh cult Lizkin!
Have been thinking, if you are all that grateful for saving money on hairdressers then you coujld always send me a cut for what you would have paid
Great pics all BTW!
Especially love your DD's rhubarb, very cute.
Thanks Dita!
Ah SMS - yours is the kind of thing I was aiming for!
Which one - the curly or the straight? I prefer the straight. I quite like the look of the curly when I tie back the top layer which doesn't curl - but it just feels really messy.
Also I can't brush it when it is curly or it just goes frizzy/fluffy
Send you a cut - very funny JackBauer!
But, sorry, I'm too cheap, so it'll have to be admiration and unending thanks instead.
SMS it looks good! I like it both ways, the curly in the first picture and the straight version too.
I am very
. My hair is too short to do this with at the moment (I am thinking about taking some clippers to it though!)
I used to cut my hair myself quite a lot when i was at school, just used an alice band to hold it down against my neck and then cut round it at jaw level with the kitchen scissors. It always looked fine. My thought is always "it'll grow back!"
ok - i've just tried this, a very weird experience!
Still feeling a little sick and shaky - it looked like I was taking loads off, couldn't believe what I was doing and then when brushed it out the long bits are the same length, there's just less of it!
When I run my hands through feels like I have hardly any left. Haven't had layers since I was about 16!
I'm glad I've done it I think.
I think!
But want the long bits a bit shorter - there's still split ends in the long bits. Haven't time now to read through the thread for more info. Maybe later. It doesn't exactly take long to cut!
Well done Downy, it is a bit
when you are doing it.
HAve a look through the thread, I did another ponytail on the crown of my head to avboid the front layers getting shorter and trim teh back. A few other people did this too so it seems to work ok.
Right, have just done this on waist length hair (as in, now waist length).
It was horrid, scraggly, I could sit on ends so they were constantly getting broken, all my layers had grown out, the feathery bits that were supposed to frame my face were somewhere near my shoulders...Was contemplating the hairdressers but I don't trust them (yet I trust myself
) so DIY it is.
It's AMAZING!
I did 4 ponytails - one at the front, one a bit further back, one right on top of my head and one for the back bits. I felt slightly sick when I cut the front one (and made the mistake of looking at it straight away) but then snipped away merrily for a few minutes and it's great. Method repeated all the way back, GHDed like crazy, turned head upside-down to shake out and side part!
Swishy, flicky, slightly shaggy.
I love it.

I have really long hair - will just one ponytail do it for me?
Sorry didn't see frannikin's post there - how much did you cut off each ponytail?
Mine isn't long because I want it to be - just as I can't get/don't want to go to hairdressers - I want several inches off.
sasamaxx, however short you cut it will be the length of your shortest layer.
If you are sure how much you want off it might be worth cutting one of the long parts to an inch or so longer than you want it (to allow for layers) and then put the ponytail in. then you can get the length you want.
Have a look at the video we got it from, hang on here She has quite long hair and it works great, but it looks like there is loads coming off!
Those that say they do 2-4 pony tails. Did you do one pony tail then move hte ponytail a bit further back and repeat. Or did you section the hair into 4 independant ponytails straight way? I feel like I want a bit more off teh back....so am planning on getting the scossors out again.
Maybe DP might notice this time - I think this weekend could be quite interesting as we will be entertaining different family members on all 3 days - and they will notice and comment
I sectioned and cut but mine is flippin' long so I could bring it straight over the front of my head but still see the ends.
Good luck with DP noticing - I won't see mine until Thursday and he has no idea I hacked my own hair....
OK - done it - was still too long so cut again. I've taken around 7 inches off and it's still longer than I'd like. Other than that I LOVE it though! What a great tip.
Think I'll live with it a couple of days and maybe go for it again if I want it shorter!
7 inches! Brave lady....
Not brave - was 7 inches of straggly split ends
When it was in the pony tail I took off at least 6". I didn't shorten the overall length though - my shortest layer is just 6" shorter than the rest of my hair.
I did try and upload a photo of my discarde hair - sadly MN server didn't like it.
may sound abit thick here but help
if i tie my hair in a high pony tail, gives me a tail about 6".
do i just go for it and cut 3" off? cant look any worse than now, and if all goes wrong i can keep it in a pony tail til it grows
help........................
I've tried to trawl through the thread to find similar questions but it's hard -
Both me & dd haven't had a haircut in months, it'd be a godsend to do it myself!
But couple of questions -
First, me - My hair is curly & frizzy (usually mousse it to give it nice little curls), I would hate to have a fringe as I think it would frizz/curl out and look a mess. If I do this hair cut but not too short would it look ok? I'd like a sort of layered look but not an actual fringe...
Second, dd - she's only 5, with an actual fringe on her forehead, the rest just standard straight. She has a natural side parting though .Would it work for her hair? In one way I can't wait to try it on her hair, she has lovely straight and fairly thick hair. If I do, what side would I pull the ponytail to - the side the parting is on (ie the line)?
gardening mum, if you take 3 inches off that means that your shortest layer will be 3 inches shorter, this will be the fringey bit around your face.
If youa re nervous cut off a couple of inches. It is easy enogh to put it back in a ponytail and do more!
Caprica, how long is your hair? I think you will need to use the 'wetting' method, basically choose how short your want your fringey bit to be and wet a chunk of fringe to that length. Then do a ponytail and cut about half an inch shorter than the wet bit (so you have half an inch of wet left IYSWIM) then do the cutting in which should take it to the level you want.
Not sure about your DD, I have a side parting which is why the pony is on the side so I woudl say yes.
HTH and Well done to everyone else who has done it! Will get list redone later!
Personally when I do it again I will be putting the ponytail in teh centre - irrespective of my parting - but then I cut it long enough not to have a fringe. Doing it on the side I think gave lopsodded long lengths too.
Do you know I saw that and thought You tube has a lot to answer for!
Yayyyyy DP now knows!
My Step father noticed, said it looked good and asked how much it cost
I desperately need a hair cut - hasn't been done for 14 months. I don't know if I am brave enough to do it.
Shall I? Ooooooh I don't know.
Do it, do it, do it!
yay for useless DH SMS! and good for your stepfather too
Big test is tomorrow. Stylish SIL is visiting.
Hope you have teh straighteners out
I actually bought a really cheap pair from asda for a fiver (have never had straighterners before) and the difference! My hair actually looks finished!
Of course! It is of course chucking it down with rain though so my nice sleak haircut is going to be a ball of frizz by tea time (we are going to cinema for DTDs party this afternoon).
I have been backwwards and forwards to the garage with my big winter coat and hood all morning.
I bought a cheap set of straighteners to start with and thought they were great then upgraded to a Babyliss Pro230 which rival GHDs and are available on Amazon for about £30 if you get on with them and want to upgrade without spending a fortune. Only downside is that the power button is easy to hit in use so I use them upside down and that solves the problem! But you will notice the difference again.
Me again, eventually I did it six times, and think I probably need another go to get it feathery (not a natural born hairdresser!), but in the end chopped off the long bits to where I vaguely wanted and then did again which was much better.
Anyway, main news is that when I washed it and let it dry naturally - it's wavy! I never knew I had wavy hair! Presumably because so much weight been taken off.
I've just done this cut and DH came home and asked when I went to the hairdressers
Looks surprisingly nice, will upload a pic when i get a chance.
I was discussing this thread a while ago after I read it, obviously stuck in my daughters head as on Thursday night when I came in from a night out I discovered she has done this to herself!!! When I proclaimed my suprise that she thought it ok to cut her own hair she said but you said it looked like a fab way to cut hair and works everytime!!!
She is only 9!!!
She has actually done a pretty good job LOL
I have just come across this thread & cut my hair & it looks fab-a-rooney!! Thanks cos i have saved myself about £30 too.
I did it a couple of weeks ago. It looks good. I cut off about 6 inches
right sorry to bump an old thread - but I have questions.
The 2 pony tail thing - was that one at the front with as much as you could get in
And then the one nearer the back also with all the hair. Or did you have make a smaller ponytail nearer the back (with less hair).
I can't quite get all the long bits at the back in - a few bits fall out.....
I want to cut my hair..........today......
I need to to do it today so that if I f*ck it up I still have 2 days to go and get it sorted out
hmm - well I've done it.
DH hasn't noticed (he's usually ultra observant) - and at the moment when I look in the mirror is rather old fashion fringe
.
Back and sides is shorter, but not much different from before...(a mess
) - and it's been over a year since I last had my hair cut.
Will see if anyone notices/says anything this afternoon - but it may be off to the hairdressers with me tomorrow - blaming a "friend"
Oh Ladies, please! Stop this madness! You end up with exactly what you are bound to end up with - a dodgy home haircut. Not a good look.
It was 3 years ago ML, i'm guessing they've stopped...
It's alive and kicking again in Chat
