First Timer - night out in a few weeks - need help!!

BunnyLebowski · 06/04/2009 11:03

Hoping you stylish ladies can help!

I'm off out in a few weeks for my first night out since having DD (6 months today).

My 3 hot, single and child-free cousins are coming over from Ireland and we're going out for cocktails in a bar and then will prob end up in FAB Cafe (an indie/rock/retro club-there's a few here oop north)

Given the venues I don't want to be too dressed up and would prefer to look like the hot/smokey-eyed/low cut top+jeans+converse rock chick I was before DD!

I'm 28, size 14, 5'4 with dark hair, blue eyes and typical Irish fair skin and freckles! Pics on profile

Have good norks-38c (with help of good bra-6 months of bf'ing have changed em slightly!), ok arms and decent if short pins but have very wobbly tummy which I want to disguise as much as poss.

I've got a pair of high-ish waisted jeans from next like these (without the crease)

www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/nextjeanshop/7/2

which look good with heels and flatter my belly so a top to go with would be ideal

Am also open to a whole new outfit if anyone finds anything nice

I would describe my style as boho/rocky//50's/wee bit hippyish. Definitely NOT girlie girlie/boob tube/dance around your handbag and drink breezers!

Don't want black.....love jewel shades and colour in general

Apologies for lenght and ta in advance

That's lovely but not for me....was going to add not silk/satin as they don't help with the lump/bump issue!

Thanks though

there is a lot of rockish t-shrits around, with motives of icons or writings on them.white with black or grey with black i quite like.they go well with skinny jeans(with converse,or ankle boots),or the flares that you have(also converse or high heels).just add a necklece, bracelets and/or earrings.oh,and smokey eyes are great!

I'm not that fussed on t-shirts - I think the high necks make anyone with any kind of norks look matronly.

Also not a fan of skinny jeans unless they're on a skinny person and even then I'm dubious! I definitely need a flare or at least a boot cut to balance me out!

You're right about jewellery - It can do wonders for a simple top!

Thanks for having a go though

That's weird bigspender! I actually tried on that second top last week during my one and only shopping expidition since dd was born!

It's gorgeous and definitely the kind of look I'd like......BUT.....

it did nothing for me I just don't think floaty tops like that work on curvier girls like me. I looked like a badly wrapped present!

Shame as I really love it!

Thanks for having a go!

What about this from Kew? Fits rock chick and it looks pretty dman tummy flattering to me:

This is in a similar vein but less norkage and lower price:

Good neckline and colour for you:

Oooh me likey that first one!

Really wanted something more colourful but am not totally averse to black/navy if it's the right top!

Thanks Flo

It is very cool. If I didn't have bingo wings I'd definitely be buying it.

Sorry, it clearly isn;t from Kew - I was originally going to link to a sequinned vest they have in the sale but decided that it wasn't good for tum flatterage.

What do you think to this one?

www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Oasis+One+shoulder+drape+front+top/123308761,default,pd.html?cgid =3030

It's a bit dressier than my norm but really like the colour....do you reckon it would be tummy flattering?

Just thought would need a good strapless bra too.....hmmm haven't had great success with strapless bras in the past

I like it, but I haven't had any luck going strapless either...

This is very similar but could take a normal bra:

Went off the strapless one last night - had vision of me hoiking it up all night or worse still flashing my bra after a few bourbons!

Problem solved - I just bought this (in the purple)

www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Sequinned-Twist-Front-Top/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=474842

Please don't tell me you think it's horrible now as it's winging it's way to me!

Thanks for all your suggestions - I would have gone for your black house of fraser top if I hadn't found the one above!

Arse

The top just arrived and it's not good.

Loads of material, wonky round the neckline and really chiffon-y. Makes me look frumpy and mumsy. NOT the look I was after!

Back to the drawing board I guess!

I really like that Jane Norman one - a shop I have always avoided as I assumed it was a skinny minnie's shop! Love purple!

What do you think of these few?

www.missselfridge.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=2 0555&storeId=12554&categoryId=63754&parentcategoryrn=63752&productId=1133103&langId=-1

and this one from peacocks (

www.peacocks.co.uk/Womenswear/Tops/Vests_and_Camis/BLACK_POLKA_DOT_HALTER_CAMISOLE_TOP_DOT_-34487014 .html

I know the polka dot one wouldn't be very tummy friendly but I LOVE the 50's-ness of it! And I have a really good waist cincher from marksies. Would wear it with a cardi too (at least till I hit the dancefloor!)

Grhh, I can't get on to that Peacocks link. Will try again later. In the meantime, can I throw this into the pot? I know it's black but it's very rock chick:

I also like this dress/tunic from M&S:

Fair enough, I know what you mean.

I was a bit worried about spilling out of it anyway - camisoles like that always seem to have little in the way of accommodation for bigger boobs!

I can't get onto either of your links

Will try again in a bit

Thanks for persevering!

Links work now! But sadly I'm not keen on either of those.

First one a bit too biker-y and the second one would look terrible on me as all tunic tops do. I'm only 5"4 so the length of them is all wrong on me and drowns me!

Did you happen to try the link to the peacocks one again?

DP is nipping in there at lunchtime (works in town) for me to see if they have it in my size - bless him, hope he doesn't get mistaking for a tranny mooching about in the women's clothing section!

I did, finally. I think that what you said about the Peacock's one says it all - you will feel great AND have fun in it. Also, it's really good value (I am slightly worried about the moulded cups!). I hope that DH manages to gets it!
