I have been wondering for the past two years, how women have been persuaded that clothes that make you look pregnant when you aren't are a good idea!

The power of marketing

when you get old (over 35) you dont get persuaded by erm fashion stuff.
Also bieng skint helps because you canny get persuaded to buy them.

I find these fashionable handbags with the buckles and the pockets and the widgets horrid. All I want is a plain brown leather one with an overflap or whatchermacallit.

Also horrid IMO are pointy-toed goth shoes - used to be called winkle-pickers in my day - that make your feet look approx. four sizes bigger than they actually are - and those have been in fashion for about a decade now.

Even if I had loads of money, I would never buy either.

(This post would probably be improved by being read in the style of Dame Edith Evans or similar)

When I lived in Turkey, all thr blokes were mad for really looooong pointy shoes that made them look like extras from the Wizard of Oz. A shame as generally they are well fit.

I habe been looking for a pic of a really minging example I saw in Red. Pale blue-looks like something a paramedic would carry an organ for transplant in.

I brought one for Uni (because all the younger girls had them, and being 'mature' I wanted to fit in). I looked like a homeless woman, and it was a pain in the rear end rummaging through it at the bus stop for my purse, which had disappeared into the depths of the bag.

I actually do have a big bag - shopper-style thing. I am constantly losing things in it but I need the capacity for used tissues, pre-loved sweets, odd socks and so on.

I just hate fashionable bags

what is a dunny sack?

I have a big bag. I like my big bag. I tried to swap to a smaller one and kept missing all the stuff I had crammed in the other one so swapped back . My bag has so much in it, it represents another room in the house.

I don't think so PW.
Nowt wrong with big bags for functional reasons, but big bags on skinny fashionistas ios weird.

I found an article by a Harvard smartarse deconstructing the big bag thing which was quite amusing.

Job going dreadfully FIS.

I am beginning to hate being a SALT. They want us to do nothing but computer stats. and meaningless paperwork. One could quite easily do no 'hands on' stuff at all which is my true love.

I don't think we are offering a proper or meaningful service at all to my client group, people with learning disabilities. I think I will have to leave...

I love big bags. But they don't suit everyone, they're fine on young (under 35, 40 if you are particularly well kempt), well dressed women. If you are older or in the slightest bit dumpy, I agree, they look bad.

oh moondog, no, no, no, no.

Any way you could do it privately or does it still have the same problems?

Report
moondog · 02/02/2008 15:59

I could.
I am also training to be an ABA consultant which opens a lot of new exciting doors.

We'll see how it pans out.

Actually SALTs always have to lug big bags about. Noone would ever accuse them of being stylish though.

oh good (re new opportunities).

You know it doesn't surprise me given how the NHS seems to love its paperwork - awful to see the impact on the people who actually do the hard work though!

(lol at dunny sack - tis a toilet in Aus a dunny, I think lol).
