Evening dress with sleeves

I have to go to a black tie dinner with work and I need a dress.

I'm 5'7" and size 10/12, so it shouldn't be difficult, but my problem is I have bad skin on my back, chest and upper arms, so I usually wear something with sleeves, which would rule out the usual stappy/strapless numbers.

Has anyone got an idea of something I can wear, that keeps me covered without being frumpy? Sheer sleeves would be good enough, but I can't find anything like that.

Ohh they're all lovely and I've got loads to think about now, although possibly not the last one

I think I might need a long one though, or is that an old fashioned idea?

I've been looking at monsoon too and was wondering about thisbright pink one

What does anyone think? Not really my usual colour, but I though going bold with the colour might stop a coverall dress being mumsy?

That is nice. Monsoon have really nice dresses at the mo that aren't on their website. They have one simalar to no.2 that katy posted but it's shorter with more of a cap sleeve. And the slip underneath is sort of golden so it's not black black dress iykwim.

how are your legs? this is v cool and £370
or this is brilliant at £315

otherwise I bought a really nice black silk evening dress from nicole farhi - round neck, long sleeves with a deep buttoned cuff, just above the knee with a ruffle all around - very chic and simple. can't remember how much but it was around the £220 mark

i am enough that you are tall and slim, without learning that you can afford £300 ++ for a dress

I've got no intention of spending £300 on a dress! The Pink Monsoon one is right at the top of my budget at £95 and the reason I'm hesitating is that it's not the sort of dress you'd forget and probably the only chance I'll get to wear it again is at the same do next year!

As for my skin, no if I left it alone it's probably not that bad, but I'm a terrible picker -Yuk!!- and have been for the last 25 years, so I've got lots of scarring. Luckily, the spots on my face cleared up in my 20's but the rest of me... I've even got them on my thighs.

but would who do the introducing do you think?

like the idea though, whenever you come into a thread you have to get someone to formally introduce you into the room..

And this is Heifer wearing a rather fetching rugby top and jeans number (DD sick so doing at home day today)...

yes and if anyone spoke to you who WASN'T introduced it would be a HUGE social faux pas a la Pride and Prejudice and a little "social leper" emoticon could appear on your profile
