Black cocktail dress - black or neutral tights?

That's it really - not sure if all black is a bit much, but also feel like we're heading into winter (eek) so maybe sheer black tights would be best? Dress does have a woven pattern in it, so not as sombre as it sounds!

probably black but very sheer.

What colour shoes?

I would never say black tights with evening wear. Never, never, NEVER. Bare legged or nude tights only.

If you wear black tights you'll need a string of pearls and a black scrunchie to go with

have you got a picture of the dress?

Now you see, i've just gone and bought sheer black tights to wear with spagetti strapped black cocktail dress and DH reckons it looks better with bare legs.

Hmmm - am tempted by the scrunchie'n'pearls look but not sure I could carry it off in a suitable ironic fashion! Shes are black heels.

I would wear neutral or bare legs.

Black tights with black dress ...very bad idea.

now you mention it, perhaps we should ask the MEN!

Put this thread into the men's room, Alva - they love to be asked for their opinion!

Sadly no pic of dress - but it's black, knee length, empire cut, quite straight skirt. And nice stretchy fabric - just as well since it's not maternity and I'm due in Dec... Bare legs sadly not an option; legs are tasteful winter-white.

Black tights would only work if they were slightly ironic eg black opaque tights, v short back dress funky coloured shoes

OK, neutral it is - thank you! And thanks dolally, but not sure I'm quite brave enough to venture into the men's room for advice on what to wear with black lace, however demure!

St Tropez of course but ironic could work though you'd need costume jewellery galore and might need to work it with gloves and a posh boho cardi or summat, dunno - never attempted it. Green shoes though and you'd be away!
