bikini wax agony - oh, what can be done?

So, yesterday, in a fit of who-knows-why insanity, I took myself off to my local beauty salon and had a bikini wax (just the modest, knicker-line kind - I am a coward at heart). All was fine at the time - stung a bit but nothing too traumatic.

Now not being a big waxer (I've only had it done twice before) I'm not sure if how I'm feeling today is normal ... but my lord, it is AGONY. I am in red, sore, itchy hell. Can anyone suggest anything that might help? Or have I ruined myself forever? Help me, I beg of you ...

It's often red for a day afterwards. No knickers can help.

elizabeth arden 8 hour cream is excellent. Have some painkillers also.

Hmmn, at work just now, so no-pants may be tricky (and am foolishly wearing a pair of quite rough tweedy trousers). Pants off the minute I get in the house tonight though ...

And I've tried a bit of sudocrem on the area (area - what a horrible doctorish word!). Is that wise, do you think?

What a business. Won't be doing this again in a hurry.

genius, Doodle - may struggle to get to a pharmacy (thanks for the liz arden tip, though, both) but can def visit the supermarket on the way home. Will pick up a waxing kit then ...

meanwhile, owch, and, might I add, squirm.

Maybe a bit too late but you can sometimes get the soothing cream separately.

Or I read sudocrem is ok ... not tried that though, just saw online.
