Why is it now that I'm not pregnant everything in the shops looks like maternity wear?!?

Was most depressing trying to buy a nice top for a night out.

Feel like I have been in a fashionless cocoon for nearly a year and I have NO idea what is in fashion.

please help me find something stylish that doesn't look like maternity wear but is still fashionable!!

I know what you mean - all of those smock tops. They do make you look pregnant. I had the same problem trying to find a top and eventually found a longer top/almost short dress which had a narrow tie under the bust which pulled the top into a fitted shape.

How glitzy a top are you looking for?

Warehouse have some lovely bright silk bandeau tops and ones in the same material with straps or longer line tops but which don't look like maternity tops.

Oasis and Miss Selfridge might have some nice stuff too.

Couldn't agree more! I hate those smock tops and don't want to look pregnant!

Was beginning to think no-one agreed with me!!

I want something long to cover my post-baby belly, that can look dressed up with heels or can be worn more casually with flats.

Lucie, what you described sounds like the kind of top i need!

ok trixy - will tell you where I bought the top and try and do a picture (it never normally works). This isn't the Warehouse one but my one from Next.
Back in a mo....

ok - won't bother trying to do link 'cause I'm a bit crap but go to www.next.co.uk and at the top of the page in the 'search' box, type: 361-204.

This is the long line grey top I described.
Colour on website is a bit odd looking but they do have them in the stores.
They've got tiny shells on one shoulder and the opposite hip and I wear it with jeans or over long black trousers.

Even if you don't like the top, the shape is flattering and not maternity-like.

my last sentence sounded odd when I read it back - I just meant that it could give you an idea of the shape I was talking about, even if you don't like the top!

I'll stop waffling now....

Oh, i thought I'd replied to you Lucie! Obviously didn't press the post button!

That top is lovely, will need to get myself down to Next to try it on!

Lol - I just posted a very similar question in chat. Didn't see this thread. It made me laugh in Dorothy Perkins when I went downstairs and saw a huge maternity wear section (I had real trouble finding maternity wear when I was pregnant). Like you say, I reckon pregnant women could wear pretty much anything in the shops at the moment.
