Going grey

I've got shoulder length, mousey brown hair that I wear in a bob. Just recently, I've started to get grey hairs, particularly towards the front. I'm too young to go grey, so what do you recommend that I do to disguise it? TIA

you have 3 options depending on how grey you are -

1. you can get a permanent colour put in which will completely cover the grey but you will have to have touch-ups as the grey is very visible as the colour grows out.
2. Try soemthing like Castings colour which will also cover all the grey and washes out after 8 - 12 washes.

3 try a vegetable rinse which won't cover the grey completely, rather sort of blend it in and also washes out so would have to be redone.
I think if you are not too grey, try one of the wash-out options first and see if you like it before you commit to a permanent colour.

if you just have the odd grey strands you could also try just getting some highlights to disguise it rather than an overall colour

Which is the one to avoid - where if there is a lot of grey in a patch it goes purple? Or is there a knack to do with timing? (Or is the hairdresser the best answer?)

Go to a hairdresser you trust and be prepared to part with lots of cash.
I'd never try to do it myself at home - too much potential for it to go wrong.

Ah, but MrsBadger, you have elegant white streaks rather than grey.

Agree re going to hairdresser - and about going for a semi-permanent one at first, or highlights.

I was in a similar position starting to grow in my twenties . I put up with it for ages because I was nervous about colouring but the hairdresser persuaded me to go for a semi-permanent colour. She was able to match my hair colour pretty well and no-one much noticed but I wasn't going grey anymore. I need to get it done every 5-6 weeks but I am probably quite grey underneath now! The conditioner in the dye is really good and has made my hair nicer rather than drier or anything like that.

when you go whiter, get some highlights too

when you get even white go for permanent colour with highlights.

If semi-perm doesn't work, go perm but get a hairdresser to do it (the ones who come to your house are generally 1/3 of the price of a salon and take about 1/3 of the time too!) You can get the colour broken up with some high or low lights - looks good - wasn't ready to be grey in my 30's even though my mother is disgraced (although she dyes hers too!!!)

the touching up kits that come with little brushes are quite good for just doing a tiny area - that worked for me but make sure you match the colour really well
