Help me decide what to do with my hair (pics!)

I have never dyed my hair in my life and have been greying for quite some time now. I've toyed with the idea of having 'highlights' but in a colour close to mine to cover and blend them. Today I made an appointment but I feel even more undecided than ever. Help me make up my mind.

I am not by nature someone who spends much time or money on my hair so I always feel it's out of my usual way to dye. I suppose I have always ridden on the red making a mark without too much extra trouble. I'm worried about having to do it very often and it not being affordable. I'm also worried about it looking bad and having to spend ages growing it out. I like things on me to look natural and simple.

I have nothing against being grey really if that is the best look for me but I am not sure it is the best look at the moment. I want to make the best of my hair and am worried it is beginning to look washed out.

I haven't done my hair for the pictures and it does need a cut so the curls are dragging out. One shows the grey better than the other.

What do you think I should do?

Nice thick hair! And the natural colour isn't bad at all

I'd say a mix of highlights and low lights to get the grey come through naturally

Plus some more layers through your hair to get rid of some of the weight

Will look lovely :)

IMO it just needs a good cut and condition. Your natural colour is lovely!

I'd love hair like yours! Just a few high and low lights to blend in greys and a bit off the ends for condition. It looks greatSmile

Its gorgeous. I wouldnt do anything apart from invest in a good purple shampoo.

I use the cheap one from savers but heard fudge do a great one. Will really brighten the grey.

Thank-you for the compliments. It's a 50/50 split so far!

I think it would look good with highlights, that would blend in your naturally light and dark areas.
Think about whether you can afford the time and price spent in the salon.
It would need re touching about every six weeks.

The other thing to consider is the after care. If you have bleach on your hair, you will have to spend a little more on good conditioners to use at home as it will need extra care. You'll also benefit from using a toning shampoo to prevent brassiness but they're not too pricey.

You could consider getting a half head or T Bar(around the face and down the parting) set of highlights, particularly if you always wear your hair down. That is also a cheaper option.

Great hair. So much you could do with it. A good cut and it will look fabulous.

The upkeep of hi lights is an expensive pain in the bum. Your hair colour is lovely - I'd just have a good cut if I were you.

Oh blimey... I wouldn't touch the colour! Just fork out for a good cut from somebody who appreciates curly hair.

Gorgeous colour. You just need a nice cut and a treatment to get it shining. I suppose you could also maybe get a wash to enhance the colour but apart from that, leave it be. I think it will look amazing conditioned and a great cut.

I really wouldn't commit to highlights, it's a nice colour as it is.

A nice cut but no colour would be my advice. Looks a little on the dry side, so maybe instead of spending money on a colour spend it on a salon treatment?

Thank you again.

How much is a touch up in the uk? I'm currently in Spain and my local salon does a touch up for about 15 euros. I will only be here for six months or so so it does have a bearing.

Oblomov - if you would care to elaborate on ' so much' I would be really grateful. I'm a bit of a hair dunce.

I also would not touch the colour. It's expensive and time-consuming.

You do have great hair.

Moroccanoil is a great oil for your hair they also do a glimmer spray which is fab. I would treat myself to some of that, the fudge shampoo and a good trip with some shorter layers to add texture.
