The whole family have been invited to an 80's fancy dress party!
Im stuck on me and dd (7).
For me i was thinking bananarama? Dungarees maybe, but with what? Or jeans with braces?
For dd was thinking pink leg warmers, pink top as below but what colour leggings? Something like picture below for her.

Cyndi Lauder is good as you can do a lot with hair chalk and make up and just wear black clothes or if you're at all handy make a cheap tutu with some hot pink netting

Dallas
Dynasty
Boy George
Robert Smith
Grace Jones
Early Kylie
Early Madonna
Fame
Dirty Dancing
Dexy's Midnight Runners
Wham / Pepsi and Shirley
Human League
Wall Street
Google image any of them and you should see loads of ideas.

Alternatively, what you've said sounds fine. If you want to look authentic, I'd say no top under the dungarees (underwear ok!). Leggings, as I remember were black or neon colours. Have a good time Smile

Claire's Accessories have a lot of 80s style things including Bananarama type braces, badges, leg warmers etc. Maybe see what they have and build some outfits round that. I wore that kind of thing to an 80s party I went to. other people wore: power suits, Green Goddess type aerobics gear, there were a few Maggie Thatchers, a miner, a Rik Mayall student type, some Hi di Hi costumes, and lots of other stuff.

Or a ra-ra skirt, batwing top and fluorescent leg warmers.
Blue eyeliner and Farrah Fawcett - Majors flicks with half a can of hairspray.
Those were the days Wink

We did this last year - DD went with puffy bunches and cheerleading type costume as the hey Mickey finger. I went for a 'Robert palmer backing singer in addicted to love' which was black dress, slicked back hair and loads of red lip Stick!

Is your hair long enough to rock a bouffaunt or a flick?
Robert Palmer backing singer is a good idea.
DD could go for the Fame look
You'll have loads of fun Grin

We had an 80s party last year. I did black skinnies, knee high suede boots, frilly white shirt, big sash round my waist and........ a white stripe across my nose. Yep, channelled my teenage self and went as Adam Ant!

I went recently, dungarees, ankle socks, Adidas shell toes, a crop top underneath, my hair in corkscrew curls and pink eyeshadow.

I did this last month, a garish/ neon aerobics outfit, teased and backcombed hair, mini dumbbells, wristbands, headbands, leg warmers, a full face of makeup (very pink lippy, very blue eyeshadow, full on eye liner). Had a blast.

Ooh so Envy I'd love an 80s Fancy Dress.

I dressed DS for an 80s Party (when he was 10yo and I could get away with dressing him Grin )

Canvas lace-ups (pre- Converse)
Chinos rolled up
Black vest
Huge white t-shirt with the sleeves cut off (to make an overvest) and emblazoned with RELAX
Two thin studded belts , one on the waist , one loose on the hip
Neon odd socks
Rubber bands on the wrist
Spikey hair

Me- I'd be one of the Robert Palmer Girls. If I' tried Bananarama, I'd look like Dexies Midnight Runners Blush

My mate had an 80's theme for her birthday a few years ago. The best costume was my mate's- he went as a yuppie, complete with massive mobile phone.

I was a Sloane (long pleated skirt, pastel shirt, alice band, pearls), birthday girl was your woman from Flashdance (leotard, leg warmers, and a DIY cardboard welding visor), and my DSis was a sexy miner which might be flying too close to the wind. We also had Freddie Mercury, a shell suit wearer, generic 80's lady, Miami Vice and Def Leppard.

80s themed parties are great Grin. The last one we went to, I wore a 'Frankie says Relax' t-shirt (ebay) and old stonewashed jeans with added rips.
DH went as Miami Vice with an old suit jacket with rolled up sleeves, t-shirt, jeans and aviators.
The best costume though was someone who came as Mrs Thatcher complete in a charity shop tweed skirt suit, handbag and blonde coiffed wig! HTH Smile
