I think that is a complete excuse. Just a marketing scam. Come to us..spend lots of money on items that are made for a fraction of the price we sell them to you for. Laughable. Don't be sucked in.

Everything I've bought from them has lasted me years. I still have and wear a coat I bought 16 years ago.

Makes a nice change from all the so-called "deals" out there, that aren't all that great!

I also like the stance Fatface took, making charitable donations on "Black Friday" instead of discounting whatever they could find at the back of the store room...which is what most of these companies do anyway.

Its a marketing scam. Clever but thats it. Regardless of how long they last, they will cost pennies to make in comparison to what they charge you. They are over priced. I have bought jumpers from them and dresses and their is nothing out of the ordinary. The jumpers were thin and pretty rubbish for nearly or over £100

I've been looking at their dresses and I don't think they are overpriced now, I do agree they prices were comparatively high in the Nineties, it seems they have stayed somewhat stable.

The reality is, they don't want to lessen their profits! They dont want to give you a cut. How does that sound? They have cleverly wrapped it up to make it sound like it is for the customers benefit. Clever.

Errrrr it doesn't seem to stop them putting on a good post Christmas sale. Of their so called honestly priced and worthy items, now 50% less worthy

I buy a fair bit of jigsaw but somehow not convinced of their holier than thou attitude.

Post Christmas sale makes more sense for clearing festive or winter stock that won't be sold.

Sigh. Why do people talk as if retailers get 100% of the difference between the cost price and sale price of an item to keep as profit?

Once you've paid a supplier for the item, you have to pay a company to ship it to you at your warehouse or distribution centre from wherever - e.g. China or Spain to the UK. You have to pay someone to unload and shelve it. You pay for the storage space while it's waiting to be sold. When it is sold, you pay 20% VAT, you pay someone to package it and for the despatch materials, and in most cases now the company pays to ship the item to the customer. This means you also need staff to process returns.

On top of this, you're paying for someone to photograph and style the item for the site, someone to write the copy, someone to maintain the website (in and/or out of house), advertising/marketing, merchandisers and buyers, a finance team, card fees to Visa/Mastercard, and that's all only for mail order - there are store costs instead of the shipping fees if you buy on the high street, and customer service staff to pay for online.

It is not a "scam". If retailers weren't making anything after paying all of that, what's the point?

All that said, obviously profits are unnecessarily massive on something like a designer bag. I'm mainly talking about mid to upper high street jumpers and coats and stuff.

On another note, I see they have quietly brought the price of their bags down; a couple of years ago they were trying to sell them for ridiculous amounts verging on £500.

Black Friday isn't just about shifting back room stock, plenty of sites (asos, all saints, H&M to name a few) have 20-30% reductions on everything across the site.

Jigsaw are overpriced and this is their way of saying they are staying that way.

Their sales have 70% off in the end and they are STILL making a profit on that.
