No motivation to put on makeup.

Hey everyone,

How do you all find the motivation to get ready on a morning?

I have totally lost motivation to put my makeup on. I have gotten into the habit of just going makeup free everytime I go anywhere and it makes me feel crap. I find it a chore.

It's not in any way compulsory OP. If you find it a chore then don't spend time on it. I find it the opposite of a chore - I find it soothing and relaxing, I enjoy planning my make up look for each day the night before, I feel like I look a thousand times better with make up on and I feel more like me. I get huge confidence from wearing it. So I wouldn't be without it

But it's not for everyone. Don't feel bad if you can't be arsed

Not meaning to hijack OP's thread but the problem for me is that I am always exhausted and feel crap in the mornings and really cba to apply make-up, BUT I have acne and feel absolutely gross and horrible going out without it! Which I just try to ignore, but I do feel waaay better when I have make-up on. The problem is it takes me ages to apply make-up and I find the application stressful because I have poor coordination due to Asperger's Syndrome. So there's like lots of issues rolled into one.

I never wear make up to leave the house but I take some with me and if I feel undone or like I need a boost I go to toilets and put some on.

I used to wear it all the time, mainly because I had bad skin and wanted to cover my spots, perhaps that's why it feel like a chore now because I associated it with the stress of covering blemishes.

I do feel better about myself when I've got it on but half the time I just can't be bothered.

Can I ask how old you are please? I never work makeup till mid twenties, then realised the benefits of foundation, then went for a period of never going without ie the last twenty years. Now if I'm at home I don't wear it, if going to local shops I don't wear it, but going to office and anywhere else I do.

Why? not because it's a joy to put on, that takes five mins, but because genuinely i look much better with it on and that makes me feel better, more put together and that's the motivation, it's five mins well spent and I look much better for the rest of the day,

Meadow, have you tried a beauty blender (or the Real Techniques dupe)? You wet it and then apllication is really fast and easy, you can multitask with it using it with a variety of products (I do concealer and cream blush, you can do powder as well) and the blending assures it's harder to mess it all up as it is so forgiving while everything gets done so much faster. Only bother is cleaning the thing but a quick rinse is officially enough but I prefer to deep clean it at night.

As others have said there is no obligation to wear makeup, OP. As a bare minimum I curl my eyelashes (sometime I even skip that) and a few coats of mascara, eyebrow gel plus a tinted lipbalm, feels done up enough without much effort.

Don't if you don't want to. If you do but can't be arsed then what about tinted moisturiser lip gloss and mascara? All can be applied in two mins (without a mirror) for minimal hassle.

What about a Beauty Balm / BB cream so like slapping moisturiser on but like a slight foundation for speed / ease?

Personally I don't wear it, it don't like having my face painted up, feels like wearing gunk but fully respect people who want to wear it every day! (wish I had the face and figure to really rock no make up Grin )

I have NEVER worn any makeup - and I am now old enough for a bus pass! Let me reassure you that I have never been short of male admirers. So ditch that chore! Go natural!

I wore make up every day when I had bad skin. Since that resolved, I only wear make up at parties. What's wrong with it for you op?

I think it's because everyone I walk past looks gorgeous and majority have makeup on and it makes me feel such a mess.

I think I've just gotten used to not wearing it.

I could try tinted moisturiser, never thought of that before.

I just find it really time consuming and I'm too lazy to do it.

Tinted moisturiser tinted lip balm sounds quick enough though so I'm going to try that.

I used to wear foundation, concealer, powder, blush, highlighter the works! Used to take me nearly 2 hours!

2 hours to put make up on! GrinShock

It takes me five mins : foundation, powder, mascara, eye liner.

I bought a Real Techniques dupe today Bo. How do you deep clean it?!

OP I go through phases of not wearing any but these last few weeks I have been trying to be more consistent. I do feel better wearing it but I like a minimalist approach. I hate my skin feeling thick with make up. I use a tinted moisturiser, a little bronzer, eyelash curled mascara and lip gloss/sheer lipstick. Not if at home though. Sometimes I'll add eye shadow or liner.

2 parts (cheapo) olive oil plus 1 part washing up liquid, massage it around a bit and then rinse. Check YouTube for a better visual.

How is your skin now? You could focus more on the appearance of that if you have acne scars. Start with a low-level Retin-A a couple of days a week, and daily moisturize with Jojoba oil.

I don't bother with foundation or tinted moisturizer, but a quality mascara, brow pencil and dab of lip plumper gives my features a bit of oomph. For evenings out, I switch to lipstick.

I rarely wear makeup in the week, do love it on just don't see the point as a sahm. Often ill apply a fake tan night before & a v quick /'sloppy eye liner going to bed... then just wash off in the morning.. my skin is lifted & have a temp eyelash tint! Simple!

I think you definitely have an opportunity to simplify if it took you 2 hours previously OP! I wear a full face most days and it takes 15 mins tops.

Could you book yourself into a beauty counter for a refresh of your products and routine? I've always found Bobbi Brown to be fantastic for this. I booked my mum in there once and the lovely makeup artist created a really simple, natural look for her which she could recreate at home with just a few products.

My suggestion is cushion foundation. I especially like the L'Oréal one. So easy, just bounce the pad thing around your face for a bit, then throw on some mascara and lip gloss (I love the Clarins Instant lip perfecter in 06.)

How is your skin now?

What about just putting stuff around your eyes and a quick sweep of mascara?

Is your skin better? When I do full makeup it takes a few mins, a light foundation, some powder on t zone, concealer under eyes, eyeshadow, mascara, blusher and lip liner and lipstick.

Sounds a lot to look natural, but the trick is in the colours and forumaltons used, but I'm 47. My foundation is little more than a bb cream for example and I've done it so long I can do it fast.

You don't need to wear it, 25 was the time I started with foundation for the very first time as I looked in a mirror under fluorescent lights and realised I looked a bit pale and wan.

The issue is prob because it took you so long before. No one can be arsed with two hours to do their make up. But if your skin has cleared up, then it should be a quick and easy job.

I timed myself this morning, and skincare, make-up and hair took me just under 6 minutes in total. That included fixing a big mascara smudge when I had a sneezing fit before it dried.

So you probably want to think of low-skill, high impact stuff.

I use BB cream, concealer, blusher, highlighter, mascara, lipstick (or tinted balm) and if I can be bothered, eyebrow stuff. For evenings, I use a deeper lipstick.

My skins not as bad as it was but Ive still got spots every month due to my period.

Skin texture is rubbish and makes it hard to put makeup on as it just looks really bumpy.

I've exfoliated, moisturised and primed my face before foundation and it still looks bumpy and dry.

:(
