Help - masquerade ball. Any ideas where I can get a nice *cheap* dress?

Hi, I have a Christmas do in December and it's masquerade ball themed. So I need a dress & mask! The most formal thing I own is a shirt dress - I don't really have any dresses but I want to make an effort.

I'm a size 16 and would like to cover my arms/stomach if poss. Any ideas? I like the idea of a long 'ballgown' type dress but can't really find any with sleeves! I detest my upper arms.
Thanks Star

Oxfam online? You can search by brand and size.

But don't tell everyone Wink

I was a bit worried about eBay as you hear the horror stories of dresses from china arriving nothing like the pic! Will check out all your links now - thanks.
I didn't even know there was an oxfam online! I definitely don't care if its second hand but can't be bothered trawling round charity shops.

Bike i love that website but can't really find anything size 16 that fits the brief then again what the hell do you even wear to this kind of thing

Nothing took my fancy on oxfam. Wondering if to take the plunge & try eBay but worried about returns if it doesn't fit/looks shit. Would prefer to actually try things on in store as I'm a weird size! Some 16s fit but some are tight depending on brand Blush

It's always worth looking in TKMaxx. I was eyeing some stuff up in there the other day as I might need something new for NYE.

Do you have a TKMaxx nearby? They generally have lots of evening dresses at this time of year and are great for getting a bargain, but you really need to go instore I think as only a small selection online.

I get a lot of nice evening / cocktail dresses from Amazon - all £40 or less.

You can always wear a shrug / shawl for your upper arms - it's what I do. I hate my upper arms too.
