Pinterest/instagram inspiration

I often see people on here say "look on Pinterest /instagram for inspiration or outfit ideas" but i have no idea how to do that. I get that i could search Pinterest for specific items of clothing, eg tube skirt outfits, but how do you get general inspiration? What do you browse, how do you search? Do you have to follow certain people? How do you know who to follow?

I follow stores that I like e.g. Zara, Warehouse etc but beyond that I don't really know, I'm always put off by browsing the generic 'fashion' as 99% tends to be American stuff that you can't get here even if you wanted to. I guess if you follow any bloggers they may have boards.

On Pinterest, you can search a general style like 'elegant style' or whatever, and then it will give you other search terms you could use at the top of the search results. Things like 'day' or 'night' or 'casual'. You just click it and it brings through more posts. As long as you are using it purely for ideas rather than actual links to clothes, it works well.

Or, when you click on the search icon, scroll down to popular search terms, and there's a 'Women's Fashion' one - click that and then just use the above idea to narrow down the searches.

I use IG a lot, but not really for style inspiration. That's not to say it's not good, I just find Pinterest easier. A lot of people might put #streetstyle on their post (or whatever) but it just be a picture of their head, because they're trying to get more traffic on their page.

I do follow a few people on IG that I like their fashion sense, but they always end up wearing things too expensive for me! Samantha Marie Official has got quite a nice style. Also as Monday above suggests, follow shops you like.

I just either type in an item of clothing that I already own or would like I.e. Black jeans, sequin skirt, wool coat and see what comes up. Or someone's name who has the kind of style I like 'Clemence Posey' or whoever. Normally I find inspiration along the way too - it's quite addictive!
