I think you might just be better buying a book on the subject as a consultation is pricey and not sure it adds much more

Worth it! The draping of fabrics shows up clearly which season but also the finer details of which colours within that season really work. It's so easy to spend 100 quid on clothes that don't do anything for us so money well spent in my view

Worth it definitely. You'll see colour differently and understand how to put what you've learned into practice. You'll get your swatches as well and a booklet. You'll understand make up selection too. Do it! (HOC is best).

Definitely worth it. I had mine done with house of colour, would recommend them.

I recently did a personal stylist session at John Lewis which included getting your colours done, plus advice on your body shape and how to dress to flatter it. £125 but free if you then spend £500. I added on the complimentary 2 hour personal shopping session so she was able to then show me outfits to bring it to life. I thought it was worth it (spent a fortune though...)

Don't do it.
Get your make up done and wear what looks cool to you.
E.g Take a look at some Italian or Swedish fashion blogs. That's what I like anyway - certainly colours is an odd concept to me cos I wear a lot of black.

Never bothered myself as I think I can see what suits me so I don't really care what season I am. But def worth it if you can't tell I would think.

I thought it was worth it, but I'm hopeless at personal style and can't really "see" myself. Or judge whether what looks nice on others will suit me. It's quite nuanced, not all bright colours.

Worth it, life changing confidence wise for me. Highly recommend House of Colour. DH did his too and looks much better for it. I like to think we can age gracefully now!

I wouldn't bother either. But I'm a minimal kind of girl. I also have red hair so carry a lot of colour with me and Juliane Moore once said she was advised not to wear too much colour as she carries a lot of colour with her.

I would be an autumn I think and I just don't get why I would wear sludgy colours to match my colouring.

I also highly doubt that people who are considered fashion icons have had their colours done. Emmanuelle Alt, Claire Underwood!, Stella Gibson!, Elin Kling, Jeanne Damas, Audrey Hepburn, Kate Moss, David Bowie. I doubt any of these ppl have had their colours 'done'. But each to their own, I know a lot of ppl might say the way I dress is dull.

Today I have a dark grey roll neck jumper and slightly darker grey jeans Blush

I just don't think it is needed to look good and think it is a bit of a con. Just jump on Pinterest and get ideas from there and try stuff on lots. And have fun!

Don't do it, there's a danger you'll be an Autumn and and up looking like a tree.

Seriously no, as a PP said, stylish people don't do that, just have a play around and see what suits you.

Since having my colours & style done and wearing 'the rules' Ive had so many people - including strangers - telling me I look amazing that its become quite an addiction. I used to wear black white and denim mainly in an attempt at 'cool' but as a blue eyed blonde with fair skin it did absolutely nothing for me.

Thanks everyone. The whole point is that I'm not a stylish person and the idea of trawling through Pinterest and fashion blogs - although good suggestions - make me want to poke rusty nails in my eyes. I feel like I haven't changed what I wear since, well, ever, and I'm 40 next year and still have no idea how to dress as an adult... I've booked a free personal stylist at JL for next month and I was just thinking that getting my colours done also might be a nice Xmas present from DP or something.
I know that it's not anything you can't do yourself by doing your own research and holding clothes up to your skin but I'm clueless and sooo can't be bothered to!
Will keep pondering it but thanks again for the comments

I would definitely do it. Had it done 15 years ago, used to wear black all the time but it really didn't suit me, was much too harsh for my fair colouring. It took some time but I now have a wardrobe of beautiful clothes that suit me and match each other. Has saved me a fortune in both time and duff purchases! Also as you get older it can def make a difference as to how old you look as wearing the right colours brightens up your complexion. I also get lots of compliments on my clothes and I know it's because I'm wearing the right colours and style for me ( Autumn but I don't wear 'sludgy' colours, and never wear black any more! )

I did it all throughthrough a really 80s book of my mums but I love it, and I'm an autumn and there's loads of green and purple not just sludge!!

Tempted but am a grey and black fan like PP and have noticed that friends who have it done end up wearing too many of their colours at once.

I've known three people over the years who have had it done. In all three cases they look really good, brightens complexions, brings out eye colour, makes them look terrific. I'd absolutely love to get it done.

From what I've heard, Angie Bowie chose most of David's outfits when he was starting out. Audrey Hepburn probably wore whatever Paramount told her to wear and doesn't pretty much every celebrity hire a stylist at some point?

I believe there are very few innately stylish people. The rest of us get a little help along the way be it from a big sister, Vogue, House of Colour, whatever. Everyone I know who's had it done recommends it.

I had it done by an independent lady who was recommended on here, was worth it.

From Google and Pinterest I think I am a light summer.
I don't think I would bother having my colours done though as I would cherry pick the colours that I like (which I am probably already wearing) and ignore the rest.

OP I would go for it. It isn't a fortune, you will come away with some ideas, you don't have to sign your life away to The System and wear a paintbox every day. If you just google the different palettes, they all have a whole range of colours so there is no lack of choice. Also see the Kettlewell blog for lots of outfit ideas for real clothes in the seasons.

I had my colours done many years ago - I used it for about a year before I decided it wasn't for me I sold the colour chart thing on eBay.

So there are people out there that have had it done and think it is a waste of money.

I also get compliments about how I dress, so I don't think you have to do in order to look good.

A personal stylist sounds like a good idea, but I would skip the colour analysis and save pennies for actual clothes.
