How old is too old for a dungaree dress?

And indeed how unthin?

Dress like this one - not denim, I don't want to look like a refugee from the Come On Eileen video. m.newlook.com/shop/womens/dresses/dark-grey-cord-pinafore-dress_379686903?pProduct=379686957

I'm 43, size 14.

Do you like it?
Do you feel you look good in it?
Then you are not "too old".

I think that's lovely. I have a denim one (must be a secret member of Dexy's then!) which I'm very happy with. I'm 37, size 12. Would definitely wear your grey cord one

Haven't tried it/bought it yet giddy!

I do love a bit of corduroy though.

Lotta, you will look fab in your denim one. I, sadly, would not Wink

I think nork size is the main problem, rather than age and thinness or lack of.
I like it, but couldn't wear it because of my norkage.

A lot of people will disagree and each to their own etc. but I'm going to say 11 is too old for dungaree dress.

If you want my opinion, OP, you are not too old. I'm late 40s and have a couple.

If you want other's opinions, see this, this and this. Most think it is fine. Go for it!

I'm wearing a denim one now with leggings, chunky boots and a stripy tee shirt. I'm 39. Had lots of lovely comments. Main issue is remembering not to wear with my long sleeved yellow top or the kids will tell me I look like a Minion...

Yes I agree, age 11 is pushing it.

They're basically aprons, reinvented as fashion. Is there an age limit on wearing marigolds too?

I agree with the PP's they are for kids.

I was on the train on Saturday and sat opposite a woman who I would guess was well into her 70s. She was wearing a short denim shirt dress, over the knee heeled tan suede boots, bare legs, a big fluffy white gilet and had bright pink acrylic nails and lipstick. She looked wonderful. She was without doubt 'too old' for every single thing she was wearing, but she still looked terrific. So take 'the rules' with a pinch of salt I say.....

I agree with those saying about 11 (or younger, generally, and definitely if breast development has begun)

I don't understand why this same question keeps coming up - if they are only for children, why are they in all the adult shops? I wear mine with blouses and opaque tights/flat Chelsea boots, and have had nothing but compliments. I am firmly of the "if you like it, wear it" school.

- if they are only for children, why are they in all the adult shops?. Same reason shops sell ANY goods I suppose. I mean I could go into town tomorrow and buy a pair of crocs, that doesn't mean I'm going to look good in them does it? Pinafores look ridiculous on adults

Pinafores look ridiculous on adults

You ARE clearly in the minority. I think they look cute on adults. I have liked them for years and am currently wearing a denim one. Its not a mini but a just above the knee one and I love it. I am 48.

I think they look a little bit ridiculous on adults I must admit Blush
But it's just a trend at the moment and will hopefully die Grin

If it was a question of who wore it better, personally I'd vote for the little girl.

I think it's fine to say an item if clothing isn't for you, or that you wouldn't wear it, but saying something is ridiculous or childlike is just plain rude, especially if it's something you know others like.

I'm not sure you are in a minority.

Remember they're only in the shops because retailers think they will sell. They're not something that is there regularly (ditto any sort of pinafores or dungarees) because people keep buying them. They appear at long intervals - like all items that need a whole new generation that has not experienced them before - because they just don't sell without 'novelty appeal'

They'll be flash in the pan this time as well. Because they look dreadful if you have a bust.

Might be useful for bedroom wear though, for naughty schoolgirl dress-up.

I prefer the pinafore dresses that don't have dungaree straps, can't find a good example, but they have a bit of a 60s vibe. A bit like this one...

73 year old at work rocks her cord one. It's just your style and very possibly boob size. I wouldn't wear one.
