My husbands' work Christmas ball is coming up next month, I went shopping yesterday and tried this on

www.coast-stores.com/p/metallic-stripe-makena-dress/1704798?locale=en

I absolutely loved it but my husband was concerned that I'd never be able to wear it again, my work don't have a big party each year so really the only occasions I have to dress up are his annual party and weddings.

Do you think it's appropriate for weddings/any other occasions? My husband has me worried that it's purely a Christmas party dress due to the colour and the flare on the skirt being a bit OTT.

You could wear it to really glam weddings, but it is very dressed up. It's lovely, especially if you've got the figure of the model, it seems to accentuate her waist beautifully. It's probably not worth it if you only have one or two glam occasions a year, though. It's quite memorable so I think you could only wear it to each occasion once?

That said, if you can either afford to buy it knowing it'll be a one time wear or buy it and then sell it after the party, id go for it.

I love it! And I would wear it to a wedding I think Smile

It's beautiful and I certainly think it would be appropriate for weddings perhaps with a shrug or cropped jacket. If you've got the figure for it go for it!

I love it! I'm on the fence about whether it's a xmas party dress, maybe depends how shiney the metallic stripe is, but think you should get it anyway!

I personally don't like the design at all, though the cut is very nice.

It's timeless. You will probably wear it more than you think over the next few years - weddings/functions/races

It is stunning and ignore the 'if you've the figure for it'

If it is the right size for your shape then it will be really lovely on even if you're not an 8 Hmm

And yes could easily wear to a wedding as I think the length is perfect.

It's lovely but it would look shit on someone like me - size 16 with massive tits - so I stand by the 'if you have the figure for it'. Eye roll away....

I tried it in last Sunday. It is a lovely dress. Unfortunately I am to short for it

It is striking although I couldn't wear it as my knees have gone. If you have tried it and love it I would go for it and just wear it when you can.

Wear it, keep the tag and return it after Grin

I think it will date very quickly, so if you haven't many functions to go to over the next 6 months I wouldn't I'd buy more of an investment dress.

I'm not a fan of metallic either, which is why I think it might soon date

I don't normally believe in spending a lot on 'occasion dressing' as I don't go to many 'occasions' and when I do, most people are too pissed to notice what you're wearing. But for that dress, I will make an exception. It's bloody lovely and it doesn't scream 'Christmas'.

It's a bit sweet wrapper-ish.

Also it's very formal for a Christmas party. What kind of party is it?

You might feel a bit overdressed if everyone else is dressed for a nightclub?

I felt nice in it, I should have taken a photo to show you all. I tried it in a 10 and the flare of the skirt combined with the nipped in waist made me feel really good. I've recently lost a couple of stone so I've not tried on anything like this in ages.

Glad to see it's not completely inappropriate for weddings, I thought it'd be ok, particularly for an Autumn or winter wedding with a shrug/jacket.

I am going to show my husband this thread to convince him it's not too much. I can afford it, he's just worried it's a bit showy - I'm not sure why as some women wear full ball gowns.

Mrscloony there's a short version for sale on the coast website 😉

It's nice, but a teeny bit like a liquorice allsort. And I think it might be tricky to wear lots of times as it's very distinctive.

I'd wear it to several things in my year, Christmas party night, ladies day at races, wedding, and posh lunch thing I go to where everyone is glam. The only concern I'd have is that the long length in back is very in at moment, so will it date?
But if you love it and feel good in it, buy it and enjoy your night.

I think it's beautiful, I couldn't wear it (big boobs) but if you felt good in it I'm sure it looks amazing.

If you wear it again and someone recognises it, so what?

Yes I am wearing this dress again, because I love it. Don't you like it?

You love it. You feel nice in it. It makes you feel good. You can afford it.
The only objections I can see are:
a) It's distinctive so people might remember you wore it last time or you might see someone else wearing it. But so what?
b) Not everyone likes it but that's true of everything.
c) It may date but so do all clothes. In the meantime you have something you love and that makes you feel good. A dress that does that doesn't come around that often.

Sod what others say - if you like it and feel good in it then go for it. You can always eBay it if you won't wear it again.
