Nose piercing

I'm going to bite the billet and book to get it done but I don't know what side to go for?! How do you decide?

Also, will it hurt? How sore and swollen will it after? Will I regret it?

Does anyone have theirs done that can share some advice?

It doesn't really hurt getting it pierced. Changing the piercing for the first time is quite a shock to the system thoughGrin.

Doesn't really matter which side you have it on. If you have a side fringe though I'd say to get it the opposite side to the fringe.

I don't remember mine swelling up but mine was very red for a day or so.

If you regret it just take it out. I took mine out after a few years and it left no scar at all.

Good luck, post a photo once it's done - I love nose piercingsGrin

forgot to add - MAKE SURE THEY USE A NEEDLE AND NOT A GUN.

DD has just had hers done & no redness or swelling at all. It hurts if it gets knocked, but that seems to be it. She is meticulous with keeping it clean & bathing with salt water though - & a big yes to no gun & needle only. She said it hurt a bit more than the gun to have it done with the needle, but wasn't to bad. She has a tiny silver stud. It really suits her.

I had mine done when yiung, plus septum too, both healed up with no sign it was thereat all

Mine was (not noticeably) swollen for about 48 hours. I did it when I was 14 and i've had lengthy periods not wearing it. When I do occasionally put a stud in, people are always completely surprised because nobody ever notices the hole.

Ooh watching with interest as I'm pretty sure I'm going to do this! Have been waiting for a bit of a lull (HA!) in work events/ travel so that if it goes red I won't feel too self- conscious at work, plus I don't want to faff around with cleaning etc when I'm away from home.

Am probably overthinking it but in any case hope to do it this month! Will go for right hand side (don't know why, I just know that's the side for me) and will be a teeny tiny plain stud of some kind Smile

I had mine done at the start of the summer, love it. It hurt more when I attempted to change the stud last week to a hoop, it was a tough hour which resulted in my crying because I just couldn't manage it.

Had mine done over 20 years ago,it was with a gun,it didn't really hurt just made my eyes water for a few seconds, had my right side done but it didn't feel right so took it out after a few days and got the left done and loved it ever since

In the interests of honesty, mine hurt like a bitch and bled profusely. It also took forever to heal. I ended up having to use hydrogen peroxide soaks to get it to stop getting inflamed and gunky.

I now wear a titanium ring in it and have no problems with it. I love it and I'm glad I had it done, but it was a right pain at first.

Yes ditto mine surprisingly really hurt, but it is quick.
I got mine done on the opposite side as my parting, as that's my preferred side in pics I suppose?

I love my nose piercing! It didn't really hurt but that could be because I had it done straight after having a tattoo which was agony! I also don't remember a lot of swelling but do remember having difficulty the first time I changed the stud.

If I ever have a job with a less formal dress code, I'll have my nose re-pierced like a shot. I loved it. I had mine on my right, because that was the side that I felt would be easiest to coordinate my hands on. Unfortunately, I took it out to wash my face one morning, left it on the side of the bath and forgot, and in 24 hours it had closed up completely. There's barely an indentation now.

Oh also be careful when you wash your face with a flannel. Hurts like a bitch if the stud gets caught and gets ripped outShock.

Had mine done 20 odd years ago and I seem to remember being surprised at how much you actually move your nose without thinking!!!

It didn't hurt getting it done, but was quite sore after. I had mine done with a gun but please make sure they do it with a needle.

I don't think it was as much of a pain as have my Daith pierced, had that done in feb and its still blooming sore!!!

Ooh I've been thinking of getting my nose pierced for months.

Do you still have to have a stud at first? How long before you can change it? I want a fine silver ring in mine.

And if anyone can recommend a good piercer in the W Yorks area, please do Grin.

Wow, thanks for all the replies.

I have one nostril smaller than the other so don't know if I should go the small side or the big side. I was thinking smaller side as that's the left one and it just seems right to me.

I can manage pain, just, I think. I've had four babies and have been subject to smear tests- is anything worse than that?! Wink

I was thinking of going to Maria Tash at libertys and they definitely use needles.

I just need to pick a day and book an appointment. Eeek

MaxineRockatansky I want a fine ring too, I think you can have a ring straight away if not using a gun.

I've had mine done 3 times and the last time I had it done with a needle and a ring. The original ring was HUGE but it needed to be due to the swelling. Once it went down I got it changed to a smaller one.

Just to update this thread. I had my nose pierced yesterday. It was really not painful, I was expecting much worse. It just feels a bit odd today but not too sore.

FunkinEll good to know you went for it! How are you feeling now, a few days on? Do you love it? Regret it?? Did you get a ring or a stud?

I need to know, because I think I'm ready to get mine done - just need that last push!

I'm really pleased, it looks like it has always been there.

I went for a stud but want a ring for Christmas. They were willing to use a ring but advised a stud would be better initially because there's less of an infection risk.

It's less sore than I thought it would be and doesn't get knocked too much which is good.

Looks fab! I'm glad you're happy with it! I'm also glad I didn't go and get mine done yesterday (I was pretty close) as this morning I've woken up with a stinker of a cold. That might not have been the best introduction to owning a nose stud..!

Had mine done almost 20 years ago. Love it (mine is a left piercing). I wear a teeny tiny little silver stud in it (work very corporate so the piercing needs to be virtually invisible). I wear a hoop on special occasions, but a half style so that I can angle the hoop into the flare of my nostril so that it doesn't stick right out.
