Wedding outfit rules?

I have been invited to a wedding by my very new boyfriend. It is his sisters wedding so I will be meeting all of his family!

Talk me through the rules of buying an outfit please.

No white......
No Black......
Not too revealing......

Is backless ok if I have a jacket to go over during the day?

It has been a VERY expensive month so I would like to spend £30 or less and there is an excellent sale on in ASOS so have a few ideas.

I am 5ft 2 with long dark hair, olive skin and size 10 if anyone wants to look for me Grin

Not the sequin or lace - both are a wee bit skimpy. The other 3 look absolutely fine.

Either Floral or Pink would be my choices.

In order of suitability I'd say:
Pink
Floral
Lace (although maybe a bit too low at the front?)
Silver (nice style but too light in colour)
Sequins

I think they're all nice and evening do appropriate, but I'd say they all need a jacket for during the day, apart from the pink.

Floral, pink and silver are all fine. pink one looks more "wedding-y" to me.

Have you any idea of the bridesmaid colours? Last thing you want to do is end up in the same colour accidentally.

Shoulders and back should be covered.
The floral is the nicest.

The pink also comes in yellow

Good question about the bridesmaids, I will ask the question.

I was thinking a light grey blazer type jacket for day time?

I wouldn't go backless at all - a jacket over the top won't look great (they are dresses designed to be worn on their own) and they are very inappropriate for a wedding IMHO. You risk being "that girl X brought to the wedding, you know, the one with no back on her dress". Plus, if the wedding is soon, it would be a bit chilly, surely?

I always try and find out the Bridesmaids colours and avoid those but I don't know if that's an official rule.

Oh and black is fine imo as long as it's not in a church.

The floral one is the best overall imo.

The lace one I like but if you have big books you'd need maybe a modesty panel put in under the lace.

I agree with OlennasWimpile's first post.
This is your first impression, I really wouldn't go backless or strapless or with lace showing off your boobs for a wedding. Far too 'nightclubby'.

The ones Chinese has linked to would be much better choice, or the ones OW linked to also (though I personally don't like the kimono styled one)

I like the first one, but not sure what you would wear with it - you'll need tights, given the time of year, but that would ruin the look?

The second one is too white and summery, sorry...

OP - I have a lovely pink Super Trash dress you can have if you'd like it? I'm same size and height as you. Let me know if you'd like me to put up a photo of it.
