I've not been to many and in the dark about what to wear and if there are any dos and donts.

Come and tell me about what you wore that made you look and feel fabulous while being appropriate for the occasion!

Thank you!

I've christened both of my ds, and it's always smart. Suits for the chaps and dresses/smart trouser suit for the ladies. No hats though! And remember it's always cold in church, so a pashmina is always handy! What do you like to wear? Are you a godparent?

Having been to lots, I'd say smart yes but definitely not wedding attire. The only people I've seen look inappropriate and uncomfortable have been dressed not very subtly for a summer wedding or evening 'do', teetering down the aisle in killer heels and/or with very short skirts and lots of flesh on show.

Thanks swifey and poly that gives me some things to go on. I was going wear a party style dress so good to know I need to wear something a bit smarter!

I like to wear dresses or separates but don't own any trousers or matching jackets! Can you link to something you think would be nice?

Most of the christenings I've been to lately have been quite dressed down. Especially if it's part of the normal Sunday service - if it is people are there in jeans and usual every day attire. It's a bit more dressy if it's a private service.

Depends on the setting and type of people. Do you know what type of church it's in? I would wear a hat if it's a traditional family or cathedral venue, dress and matching coat, boucle suit (if cold) or a dress a couple of inches below the knee and pumps (usually 3 inch Gianvito Rossi, have become my formal shoe of choice).

It is on a Saturday and I think it is in a cathedral. I would think it would be quite a smart affair. Most of my dresses are midi length so that would work. Do you mean like flat pumps racing? I don't wear flats really at all and hate ballet pumps (on me)

I think she said they were 3'' heels in her post, didn't she? Something that sort of height - ie, not OTT - would be fine.

Sorry for delay in response, smart midi dress or suit with 3 inch heels would be my choice. If you're family/godparent a hat too.

Warm, smart jersey wrap dress, opaque tights, and mid heel shoes were my choice last time.
