Is there a rule about where to part hair?

I think I suit side partings better, but does it matter which side? I've always done it on the left, but my hair is a lot thinner on that side so I wonder if I can swap it over to the right. Every time I try it though, it just looks bloody weird. Is that just because I'm not used to it?

My hair is a nightmare generally, so parting placement is probably the least of my worries, but there we go.

I always parted on the left until I got a few greys there. Bizarrely I've not got greys on the right so I swapped sides.

I went from a centre parting to a side parting about ten years ago, it looked and felt really odd at first but after a while and after I'd learned to style it properly it started looking better. Maybe just stick with it for a while and see if you feel better about it after a few days or so :)

Did it look wrong when you first did it? I feel like I hold my head oddly when it's parted the other side.

Just swap about until you like what you see.

Fwiw, my parting was on the right all of my childhood and youth because I had a cowlick there, then swapped to the left in my 20s because said cowlick gave the front of my hair some height.
Now I have short curly hair and NO parting Grin

No 'rule' that I am aware of.

I attempted a centre parting for about 6 months but ended up with a triangle on my head for the entire time Confused I can never get it right.

On the side, over the arch of the eyebrow is supposed to be best for setting off the face.

Allegedly

I can never keep a side parting - it just creeps to the middle!

When I was a child we were always told boys had partings on the left and girls on the right but I don't think anybody bothers anymore. Do what works for you

My hairdresser says it depends on your crown. Of course I have a double crown so that doesn't help me, my parting has moved from left to right and back again. I had a centre parting recently because I had a heavy fringe and a side parting looked weird.

I part my hair on the right. i'm right handed and it's easier to style it that way than on the left.

My crown is on my left so maybe that's why. I parted it to the right after a shower last night and it's been trying to flick itself over ever since.

I've a double crown, I part on the left mostly because I've a ferocious cow's lick; though saying that I've never tried the right. As a child my hair was parted in the centre - hated my hair as a child so I will probably never go centre again!!

I look like my evil twin if I part my hair differently,I always do it on the right.

Most people have one eye that looks brighter/more open than the other. Part your hair over that eye.

I part mine on the left as my right eyebrow is a bit dodgy at the end so this way the more hair covers it.

I never part mine intentionally, it just does its own thing, usually ends up roughly in the middle, left side hairline is a bit thinner.

I tried to persist with the right hand parting but eventually gave up, flicked my hair upside down and let it decide where to part itself. It picked the left

I think the crown is whats affecting it as a PP said. I'll just have to deal with a thin hairline I think.

My hair resists everything other than a horrible harsh centre parting. I don't know why!
