What's in the shops for an apple shape?

I'm 5'5'', a size 10 -12 and an apple shape. My wardrobe needs updating after a few years at home with the DC - what's good in the ships at the moment?

I used to wear fitted t shirts from bennetton, side zip trousers and a jacket from fcuk or similar. But I have a bit more fat round my belly now and that look no longer seems to work!

I've never worn skirts or dresses as they tend to emphasise my belly, but I'd love to. I've seen some patterned smocks in hennes that look like they could hide a multitude of sins. But mainly I've forgotten how to dress smartly and well!

Any other Apple shapes out there looking for an autumn wardrobe? Can we share tips?

This kind of shape usually works for apples although it is a very minimalist style:

COS is a great place for you - it's the big sister of H&M. Don't buy online, shop instore and try everything on.

I'm not sure that cos dress would work. I'm an apple (10/12) and the only thing I've ever bought in cos is a good quality drapery tshirt that I wear with skinny black jeans.. (Must be high waist).

This shape I love;

I'd also 'consider' trying something like this on.. As someone else mentioned up thread try lots of things on as you never know where the waist line might sit.

I wore something similar last summer and because it was very straight it just emphasised my small hips 🙂

And I totally disagree with online shopping.. Asos in particular is great for returns!

I'd probably buy something like this op for Autumn worn with thick black tights and ankle boots; m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/y-a-s/y-a-s-moment-knit-dress/prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=7000303&clr=Woodrosemix&SearchQuery=&cid=8799&pgesize=100&pge=10&totalstyles=5547&gridsize=2&gridrow=35&gridcolumn=2

lavender wow thanks - those two dresses are stunning. I can see the Asos one being a staple. What would you wear with the Zara one? Is it more of a summer dress - can't imagine those sleeves going in a coat!

pink that dress is lovely, and slightly more fitted than other cos clothes I've seen, which is better for me. frustrated I cover Cos! I love them, but they don't always look that good on me. I think it's because in my dreams I am a tall, willowy young thing and I tend to gravitate towards things that are better suited to that shape. I think I need to take a fresh look at their collections!

lavendar can I ask - how do you search for clothes online? Do you search for 'drape dress'? I used to try looking for shifts but they make me look like a huge balloon. I never have any luck with online shopping because j never know what to look for

Hi op yes I want the yellow dress badly!! If it was really cold I might wear long sleeved very thin heat tech top underneath that met my wrists and perhaps brightly coloured tights not just black and maybe this coat..

Don't worry too much about the practicality of gorgeous fluted sleeves - they're SO flattering on our shape you won't care..!!! They take all distraction away from your waist.

You just need to find a staple Jean and trouser (new look are quite good for stretch faux leather skinnies), floaty patterned shirts (again they distract). Always always fine knit, good bra and large handbag (big handbags make tummies look smaller) 😀
