Which dress for awards do?

PeachMelba78 · 13/09/2016 10:28

I am going to an awards dinner and ceremony next month, as I am a finalist for one of the awards. I have a very busy day that day, meaning I will have to store my outfit in a bag (not dress bag) for several hours, then I have around 30 minutes to change, tidy hair and makeup in a party-type venue toilets and then rush off to the ceremony.
I wanted to wear one of my dresses that I already have but it creases too much and I won't be able to iron it before changing.
So I have found a few dresses online. My criteria is that they are knee length, fitted, made of non-crease material, not white (I won an award last yea so there are loads of photos of me in my white dress), able to be worn to a wedding/ posh work event afterwards and around £20-£25. I am a size 8, 5 foot 2 and have brown hair and autumn colouring.
I have found dresses here www.newlook.com/shop/womens/dresses/burgundy-frill-trim-belted-bodycon-dress-_390543867
here -www.tkmaxx.com/dresses/mustard-v-neck-sheath-dress/invt/30166966
and here - www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/dresses-5699972/womens-dresses-5686813/asymmetric-pencil-dress-5821290?bi=0&ps=20
and I have a similar one to this - www.axparis.com/products/-Crochet-Bodycon-Midi-Dress.html?utm_source=shopstyle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopstyle

It's not a black tie, and it's a fairly relaxed dress code, so as long as I look smart and not too work or clubby then I'm happy.

Thoughts?

congratulations! hope you win.

The Dorothy P is by far the most professional looking dress, so depending on what the nature of the award is and how you need to present yourself to the audience there, i'd go for that.

Thanks Jane! I haven't got a hope of winning, and it's a fairly broad awards ceremony, but non-industry (I'm nominated through my charity work). My favourites are the blue and the mustard but I wondered if either of them would crease? I may have to order them both to see.

if you store in your bag rolled rather than folded, they should do better
(& charity work - even better! well done)

You could pack some crease release spray, spritz the dress with it, give it a good shake and that should get the worst of any creases out as long it is isn't a very heavy fabric.

Good luck with the award!

SimplyNigella where do you get crease spray from?

Also what shoes do you all think? I was thinking either nude suede courts, leopard courts or gold sandals but I thought that might be a bit cold!

I have kept looking and I like the look of this one but I wondered if it's a bit dated now?

Another vote for the DP dress here but it may be a bit long, given that you are 5ft 2 and the model is 5ft 8. Do they do petite sizing?

Thanks for all the advice. I haven't managed to find the DP one IRL.
The mustard one link didn't work, here it is - www.tkmaxx.com/dresses/mustard-v-neck-sheath-dress/invt/30166966
And I also like this one -

Crease release spray = watered down fabric conditioner in a spray bottle.
If you want a ready made product, the Downy one is good, but it is still watered down fabric conditioner in a spray bottle.

Try any product before on your dress as some fabrics may stain from the dampness. HTH.

Still prefer the Dorothy Perkins(DP) dress though.Have you tried La Redoute or Phase 8(a bit pricier)?

So I have ended up buying this dress - www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Jane+Norman+Bardot+Midi+Dress/249711894,default,pd.html
And these earrings to go with it (hopefully!) uk.accessorize.com/view/product/uk_catalog/acc_2,acc_2.4/1816138100

I'm still not sure on shoes but I will be trying them out. The dress it a really good thick stretchy fabric which doesn't crease, so perfect for rolling up and flinging on!

Thanks for all of the advice!
