Lovely fresh everyday perfume?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 11/09/2016 23:08

On the back of the 'how to look expensive' and princessing threads I'm trying to be a bit more groomed. I only really wear perfume to go 'out out' (maybe once a month?!) but id like one for every day.

I tend to go for musky, quite masculine scents, but fancy something fresher. Any suggestions? Please?

I generally like the heavy masculine scents too and will never wear floral anything, but for lighter and fresher day time fragrance I like O de Lancome (citrussy) and Jo Malone 154 cologne.

Thank you. Yes, I'm definitely not looking for anything floral. I'll try to get samples of those ones you mentioned.

The other problem is that I live miles from any decent department stores so getting to testers is hard. Does anyone know of companies that send out samples?

Aqua di Parma scents are nice and fresh. I like the orange scented one, Capri I think.

Or Eau de Rochas, an oldie but goodie for freshness.

I don't know who would send samples by post, but I think it's hard to go wrong with some of the classics like Diorella, Miss Dior (the old one, which they sell as Miss Dior classique or something now, not the new one which smells of syrup), Cristalle or Chanel 19.

I find that most modern perfume smells of penny sweets, particularly celebrity endorsed stuff, so you have to hunt out the good stuff.

Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay is divine at this time of year.

I would recommend Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely, it's a beautiful floral with musk and is not expensive so it's great to wear everyday and fling in your handbag.
If you want samples you can order them from beauty spin.

I would also recommend Chanel Cristalle. It's green and citrussy and very clean and classy. I also agree about SJP Lovely.

The Perfume Society does fabulous Discovery Boxes containing several good samples. They also have a thing called frEd which helps you find a scent that suits you. There is a shop called Les Senteurs that does samples too.

I also recommend Jo Loves- the company Jo Malone founded after selling Jo Malone plc. Jo Loves does a Discovery Set and I've yet to smell one I disliked.

I find Jo Malone colognes don't last very long on me, but Jo Loves scent has good longevity.

Also, try this lovely, friendly thread full of perfume fans and experts!

There was one I sampled today that I thought was a lovely, fresh smelling everyday perfume. I think it's called Chanel no 5 L'Eau. I'm quite tempted to buy it.

I don't like heavy floral or citrusy scents, if they're subtle I can tolerate it. I also prefer fragrances on the masculine range.

So I was surprised to like Ellie Saab Le parfum (edp), its fresh lovely for spring summer or daily for the daytime. I got a sample mini bottle as a tester. It's not too expensive to find a large bottle of it online if you do like it.

Im also using silver mountain water(creed) as an everyday wear sparingly, it's really nice and fresh for the hot weather, but im sure it will pass well into Winter too.

btw I get all samples online, google it,scentsamples, scentsampler . ebay can be a good place but read reviews, look at the seller feedback, ive purchased on ebay a lot without problems, ppl even do decants of perfumes they are trying to get rid of, so it's a good way of trying lots fragrances, stick to uk sellers.

going into the department store of pharmacy is pointless, you can smell maybe 3 and after that your nose can't tell them apart it's sensory overload. plus if you don't make a note on the card you spritz on you wont remember what you liked (im really a blondy under this black hair lol)

also perfume smells different over time, in different weathers too, you can smell the different layers, which you wouldn't notice spraying once in a store. So I think a tiny vial of perfume is better, you can't often get those in store, sometimes they have them in limited quantities. You can however get those vial samples online all the time.

My favourite is Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien. And for every day Clarins Eau Dynamisante.

Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune is delicious with a cool grapefruit top note.

MissBattleaxe · 14/09/2016 14:14

Pamplelune can go two ways: it can go sour citrus with a hint of BO or it can behave itself. For grapefruit, I prefer Miller Harris Le Pamplemousse.

Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, or a bit more spendy Jo Malone basil and mandarin and grapefruit.

I just bought some Lancome O d'Orangerie which I'm really pleased with. Like you I rarely wear perfume but would like to do so more often.
