When is it "acceptable" to wear skirts and tights?

I love Autumn clothes so I'm chomping at the bit to start wearing them.
I've bought some lovely A line skirts and want to wear them today but my OH says I will look ridiculous as its still summer.
Well out of my window it's raining and miserable but if it gets sunny later I might look like a idiot.
Should I wait till October?
I was going to wear a tan a line skirt with a thin black cut out jumper (which I love ) but maybe it's too dressy for the day (il add a pic)
Opinions ?

At the risk of sounding like my mother ...... Wear tights whenever you need to.

I'd wear the outfit now ..... Although my summer is shorter than some!

It's September so it's Autumn as far as I'm concerned. Also let's face it, there are no seasons, it's all a lie. Outfit sounds fab, and it'll be too cold for cut outs soon anyway so go for it. If you walk with confidence you can wear pretty much anything anywhere.

I was just thinking this. I have lots of lovely winter stuff and I am actually dying to get into them. I am going to try hold off another few weeks before the thick tights come out.

September to May. No tights June to August. Just my own made up rule :) but I hate seeing people boiling in opaque tights in middle of July.

Surely it just depends on the weather? When I used to commute there would always be women on the platform on the first day of September sweltering in their new Autumn/Winter clothes. It did look a bit ridiculous (and uncomfortable) when the temperatures were still in the twenties, but each to their own.

If you don't think you'll get too warm, then why not?

I am the same as you, really looking forward to getting out my coats and boots. I feel like a fat white lump in summer clothes

I agree with cakescakescakes about opaque tights.

Sounds like a lovely outfit can I be nosy and ask what shoes / boots would you wear with tgat?

Great outfit. My own self imposed rule is no opaques between may and mid/late sept. I feel wrong otherwise but plenty of people wear them all year.

I wore a tweedy sort of shift dress with black tights and shoe boots to a party last night. It was a really miserable day here and it felt quite autumny.

It's not still summer, it's September, which means it's Autumn. It's raining here and cold, I wore skirt/tights last night when I went out!

Go with the weather. It's supposed to be 23 degrees and sunny here today so it might be a bit too winter-y; but yesterday was cold and rainy so it would have been perfect.

When the kids go back to school, the winter coats, scarves, boots, gloves etc. come out of the cupboard. The sandals, sun hats, sunscreen, buckets and spades, sandy wetsuits, camping gear and all the stuff that says "summer" go back in the cupboard. So from the 1st Sepember it is OK for tights in my world.

completely ignores weather forecasts for this week and sticks to ridiculous self imposed rule for the sake of having a tidy house

I normally wear some black ankle boots with it.
Its forecast 17 and wet here today so I might get away with it ..

If you split the year into 4 sections autumn is Sep, Oct, Nov. We have had quite enough horrible sticky cloudy summer nights!

That said... It's a bit warm here so I'm in rolled up boyfriend jeans and a 3/4 sleeve top so bits of me can get some air. Even in September anything over 18 degrees is not tights weather.

I was excited to get one of my slightly more autumnal tops on earlier, but before long I was hot & huffy! Luckily still at home so could get something lighter on.
Totally depends on what you feel like. No rules when it comes to fashion.
As for your OH saying you'd look ridiculous.........he needs to be less concerned about what others think.

I remember going back to school in London in September and being freezing with bare legs on the walk to school in the mornings. September in the U.K. is fine for opaques. (It would take my mum a good couple of weeks of being moaned at, "Muuuuuuuum I neeeeeeed tiiiiiiights," before she'd remember to buy them).

I wore black opaques, ankle boots and a dark green long sleeved dress yesterday and it was lovely and just right for the temperature in London. Unfortunately it appears to be getting hot again next week so back to summer clothes Sad

I never wear skirts without tights, even in the height of summer.

That's what 10 denier nude tights are for (and make your legs look flawless).

Wear them...whenever the fuck you want.

I wore tights/skirt last night, but today is glorious. I am struggling with what to wear at work just now, usually by this time I am firmly in tights, but it's been really warm, which is totally unheard of in Scotland.

Whenever YOU want to

Tell your DH to back off & mind his own business, unless he wants you to start telling him how he is allowed to dress

Oh for goodness' sake... Why do husbands even think they get to have an opinion? Doesn't he know that whatever you choose will look amazing???
