Did anyone get rid of dark marks on face and what did you use?

I have quite a few dark marks (and one white one) on my face from spots. Make up doesn't properly cover them and I feel very self conscious of them. I still get at least one spot a month so guess that is a hormonal thing. I really want to try and get rid of these marks but have a limited budget and so don't want to waste money on things that don't work. Thanks for any help and advice you can give.
