black trousers - like jeans but not jeans

impossible quest?

I'm looking for work trousers. basically live in jeans atm because they fit and I can just grab one off the shelf and they fit (gap real straight)

they need to be

  • black or dark grey/brown
  • jeans size 32/32 (size 14?)
  • nice feeling, non plasticky fabric
  • not see through!
  • with pockets
  • not too stretchy
  • not too long in the leg (can't wear heels and cba to get them shortened)
  • preferably under 50£

would m&s, sainsb be worth a try?

M&S Per Una , sometimes are a good bet. I have a very dark charcoal semi smart jean which I occasionally wear to work ( normally shift dresses),

They also do 3 different lengths

Mango! Stretchy, comfy, smart and won't break the bank!

been to mango, gap and jl this lunch.
jl were the nicest, but much too long (and too expensive if you add shortening the legs)
mango had nothing above size 10.

Could you try online for a wider choice than what's in the shops?

If you've got the cash, whistles do great black smart casual trousers. You can get away with wearing them anywhere. They do a few cuts, depending on what you fancy.

My entire working wardrobe is based around these trousers in various colour/prints. You'd have to be really tall for them to be as short as the pics. Ankle length and just right with flat shoes for me.

Ps. The stores love it when you shop online. Their overheads are much lower than for the shops, even if you do return things

Seconding gap bi stretch skinny ankle pants. So flattering - I wear them all the time for work - I have navy and black.

Thirding the Gap bi-stretch. I bought three pairs last weekend and they're so comfy I'm contemplating going back for more.

Openme, Hollieberrie and Yvainestormhold - the gap bi-stretch look perfect! I have never bought anything from gap, what is the sizing like? Sorry for jumping in on your thread OP Blush I have nothing useful to add as I am in the same boat as you..

Ah, now I have 2 different prints and I had to buy a 10 (equivalent) in one and a 12 in the other! Gap usually comes up big. Im a narrow waisted 12 with chunky thighs really

Actually my top tip for online shopping is to order two sizes of everything. That way you have to send something back so you don't end up keeping things that aren't quite right just because you can't be bothered to return them.

Those Gap ones look nice. I really hate shopping in Gap - it's always so messy, and nothing ever really fits/feels nice, even if nice online or on the hanger. Might have to go in and see if those trousers can change my mind though!

Agree Remus - I hate my local Gap too - it's small and poky and crammed with too much stuff. The big Gap on Regent St. up in London is great though, lovely and spacious, i went at a quiet time and got loads.

BeesKnees - I'd size down a size. I'm a 10 in trousers normally but 8 in Gap (12 in Topshop - grr..)

maybe I will go to a bigger gap at the weekend to try some on. the tiny gap near my work only had 3/4 length ones my per hate
