Tk maxx - what's the point?

The one near me and the one near my office only sells complete trash, no real "designer" wear and some of the clothes are so badly made but never priced below £40 a pop. The beauty section is ok but even that isn't worth it. They used to have nicer clothes that were easier to think - ok that's a steal.

I do like homesense and their home gear but the rest of it is trash.

it's rubbish lately

I don't think it's as good as it used to be. The one hear me, anything that is vaguely 'designer' gets gold-labled and the price put up accordingly. The rest is just poor cheap tat and polyester. They used to have good shoes but seems to be all chunky Superdry trainers of late.

NEAR me ffs.

I agree. Total cr*p in the ones near me. It's like an upmarket jumble sale. I never heard of most of the 'labels'. Or else the clothes are waay out of fashion.
I was in one in a posh part of a big city and there was designer stuff.
The homewares section is good.
I think TKM is like Marmite.
You love it or hate it.

I agree with that. I don't trust the beauty section either - it seems like a lot or those products are old.

Since the expose about how all the Unknown "brands" are their own and the rrp is pretty much made up they've struggled. I don't bother any more as it is just not worth it. Occasionally find the odd baby thing worth buying but otherwise nothing worth the effort.

It was my favourite shop in the world a couple of years ago but I have to agree, it's going downhill. The proportion of gems to dross has changed - and in the wrong direction.

I was in there on Thursday. That is half an hour of my life I will not get back. Went into debenhams . 15mins I had two things I love and cheaper too. Am never going back.

I never go in there but friends always tell me about the bargains they get. So I went in last week.

It was like being in a Eastern Block department store (and I've been in Easter Block department stores).

I don't much care what they have, I'd rather pay more and not have to pick through a jumble sale.

Floisme · 20/08/2016 12:24

See I love a jumble sale. So if I think it's going downhill, they're in trouble.

None of their clothes seem nice anymore. The shoe department used to be worth a look but that's gone downhill.

Homewares still seem good.

Ive never really liked it tbh. I was in there a few weeks back and thought the home stuff was really lovely and reasonably priced. As for the fashion, what shocked me the most was the price of some of the bags! I lifted up one, by a make i have never heard of and was shocked that it was nearly £100! Still expensive or maybe i was looking for a real bargain! It wasn't just that one though. PIcked up a few more and they were also short of £100. I know bags can be expensive and have spent that for a lot of my good leather ones but just expected TK to be cheaper somehow.

I only ever have any success if I go in to kill time, or shelter from the rain. I went in looking for a dress for a party and came out with Vera Wang pyjamas and a Ralph Lauren cardigan - not what I was meant to get at all! If I go in looking for a cardi though...nothing.

This.

And it's all trash anyway.

I've never found anything good in there. It all seems to be hugely overpriced and ugly.

I don't even look at the clothes, but often get candles, bath stuff, hand cream etc in there.

I don't find it great for clothes - well not as good as it used to be - but I have had the odd gem e.g. a Zoe Karssen sweatshirt that should have been about £70 for £20. I prefer the homewares - my best recent bargain was a Kitchenaid blender for £30 :).

I used to love a good rummage and embraced the chaos which made finding something hidden amongst the tat all the sweeter but agree it's gone downhill lately.

Nowadays if I find something that's not asymmetric, nylon or has a waterfall frill, I think I've struck gold. Before swiftly hanging it back on the rail.

Ever the optimist, I do occasionally pop in to rake through the leather jackets and jeans. I'm still waiting for my perseverance to pay off though.

My local one has really gone downhill in the last year , the prices arnt low enough now for the dubious quality of their stuff from kitchen ware to clothes . This summer there were no bright and summery clothes at all. The clothes all seem to be muddy colours , sack like cloth .

My local one is fab. Jeans and a skirt and a dress are recent purchases. All under £10each.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 20/08/2016 15:30

I used to get lots of interesting clothes from there but it's all a bit polyester and dull now. I can get the same elsewhere without having to rummage.

Awful rubbish clothes. But the glassware and vases are fabulous.

We have a TKMaxx and a HomeSense , I love Homesense, they set everything out nicely (and change things round all the time) it is clean and sparkling in there.
Even if there is a shelf of (eg chopping boards I was looking at) they are set out in a This One/This One/That One way so you can compare.
Not the TKMaxx jumpble sale way This Or Nought crap.

And the RRPs ? Hollow flipping laughter Hmm
RRP £87, TKMaxx Price £47 when I know fine well that it was nowhere near £80 even new.
And all the handbags, I don't want lime green or zebra thanks.

I can't be bothered with TKMaxx, don't get the hype.

I still love it. My best recent finds:
Leather biker jacket from Barneys in clearance £33
Poetry jumper £5
2 x Boden skirts £2 each in final clearance (straight on ebay)
Sam Edelman sandals £25 ( at least £150)
Stella McCartney bag £130 ( coveted for a while and when I went back it was on clearance so I took that as fate, £650 on website)
Entire range of James Perse for DH's Christmas present, few t-shirts for me
The exact Knomo bag that I wanted for £130
Lots of Nicole Farhi, Nigel Hall and DKNY shirts for DH
My favourite Penhaligans perfume for £40 instead of £100

It's a total lottery, sometimes the TK Maxx fairy is kind, some days it's a load of shite.
You have to know your labels. I like that they have lots of American stuff you can't get anywhere here. I can close my eyes and run my had down the shirt rail to find the quality ones. I have 5 near me and I love an afternoon tkmaxxing.

It's sport not shopping. But sometimes that's just a good thing that yields results
